1Kế đó, Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng Môi-se rằng: 2Hãy nói cùng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên và biểu rằng: Mỗi chi phái của họ phải đem nộp cho ngươi một cây gậy; nghĩa là mười hai cây gậy bởi các quan trưởng của mỗi chi phái. 3Ngươi phải đề tên mỗi người trên cây gậy của mình, và đề tên A-rôn trên cây gậy của Lê-vi; vì phải có một cây gậy cho mỗi trưởng tộc. 4Ngươi phải để các gậy đó trong hội mạc, trước hòm bảng chứng, là nơi ta gặp ngươi. 5Hễ người nào ta chọn lấy, thì cây gậy người đó sẽ trổ hoa; vậy ta sẽ làm cho nín đi trước mặt ta những lời lằm bằm của dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đã phát ra đối nghịch cùng các ngươi. 6Môi-se nói cùng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, thì hết thảy trưởng tộc, tùy theo chi phái mình, đem nộp cho người một cây gậy, tức là mười hai cây. Gậy của A-rôn ở giữa các cây gậy khác. 7Môi-se để những gậy đó trong Trại bảng chứng trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va. 8Ngày mai, khi Môi-se vào Trại bảng chứng, xảy thấy cây gậy A-rôn về nhà Lê-vi đã trổ hoa: nó có nứt mụt, sanh hoa và trái hạnh nhơn chín. 9Môi-se bèn rút các cây gậy khỏi trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, đem đưa cho cả dân Y-sơ-ra-ên; các người đều thấy và mỗi người lấy gậy mình lại. 10Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng Môi-se rằng: Hãy đem cây gậy của A-rôn để lại trước hòm bảng chứng, đặng giữ làm một dấu cho con cái phản nghịch; ngươi phải làm cho nín đi những lời lằm bằm đối nghịch cùng ta, hầu cho dân chúng chẳng chết. 11Môi-se làm như vậy, tức làm y như Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phán dặn mình. 12Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên nói cùng Môi-se rằng: Nầy, chúng tôi bị diệt, chúng tôi bị chết, chúng tôi chết mất hết thảy! 13Phàm ai đến gần đền tạm của Ðức Giê-hô-va đều chết. Có lẽ chúng tôi phải chết hết sao?

1Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 2“Speak to the children of Israel, and take rods from them, one for each fathers’ house, of all their princes according to their fathers’ houses, twelve rods. Write each man’s name on his rod. 3You shall write Aaron’s name on the rod of Levi; for there shall be one rod for each head of their fathers’ houses. 4You shall lay them up in the Tent of Meeting before the testimony, where I meet with you. 5It shall happen, that the rod of the man whom I shall choose shall bud. I will make the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against you, cease from me.” 6Moses spoke to the children of Israel; and all their princes gave him rods, for each prince one, according to their fathers’ houses, even twelve rods. Aaron’s rod was among their rods. 7Moses laid up the rods before Yahweh in the tent of the testimony. 8On the next day, Moses went into the tent of the testimony; and behold, Aaron’s rod for the house of Levi had sprouted, budded, produced blossoms, and bore ripe almonds. 9Moses brought out all the rods from before Yahweh to all the children of Israel. They looked, and each man took his rod. 10Yahweh said to Moses, “Put back the rod of Aaron before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the children of rebellion; that you may make an end of their murmurings against me, that they not die.” 11Moses did so. As Yahweh commanded him, so he did. 12The children of Israel spoke to Moses, saying, “Behold, we perish! We are undone! We are all undone! 13Everyone who keeps approaching Yahweh’s tabernacle, dies! Will we all perish?”

1Toen sprak de HEERE tot Mozes, zeggende: 2Spreek tot de kinderen Israels, en neem van hen voor elk vaderlijk huis een staf, van al hun oversten, naar het huis hunner vaderen, twaalf staven; eens iegelijken naam zult gij schrijven op zijn staf. 3Doch Aarons naam zult gij schrijven op den staf van Levi; want een staf zal er zijn voor het hoofd van het huis hunner vaderen. 4En gij zult ze wegleggen in de tent der samenkomst, voor de getuigenis, waarheen Ik met ulieden samenkomen zal. 5En het zal geschieden, dat de staf des mans, welke Ik zal verkoren hebben, zal bloeien; en Ik zal stillen de murmureringen van de kinderen Israels tegen Mij, welke zij tegen ulieden murmureerden. 6Mozes dan sprak tot de kinderen Israels, en al hun oversten gaven aan hem een staf, voor elken overste een staf, naar het huis hunner vaderen, twaalf staven; Aarons staf was ook onder hun staven. 7En Mozes legde deze staven weg, voor het aangezicht des HEEREN, in de tent der getuigenis. 8Het geschiedde nu des anderen daags, dat Mozes in de tent der getuigenis inging; en ziet, Aarons staf, voor het huis van Levi, bloeide; want hij bracht bloeisel voort, en bloesemde bloesem, en droeg amandelen. 9Toen bracht Mozes al deze staven uit, van voor het aangezicht des HEEREN, tot al de kinderen Israels; en zij zagen het, en namen elk zijn staf. 10Toen zeide de HEERE tot Mozes: Breng de staf van Aaron weder voor de getuigenis, in bewaring, tot een teken voor de wederspannige kinderen; alzo zult gij een einde maken van hun murmureringen tegen Mij, dat zij niet sterven. 11En Mozes deed het; gelijk als de HEERE hem geboden had, alzo deed hij. 12Toen spraken de kinderen Israels tot Mozes, zeggende: Zie, wij geven den geest, wij vergaan, wij allen vergaan! 13Al wie enigzins nadert tot den tabernakel des HEEREN, zal sterven; zullen wij dan den geest gevende verdaan worden?
