1Khi cả dân đã qua khỏi Giô-đanh rồi, Ðức Giê-hô-va bèn phán cùng Giô-suê rằng: 2Hãy chọn trong dân sự mười hai người, mỗi chi phái một người; 3rồi truyền lịnh này cho các người đó: Hãy lấy mười hai hòn đá tại đây giữa sông Giô-đanh, từ nơi chơn những thầy tế lễ đứng vững, rồi đem nó theo, và đặt tại chỗ các ngươi sẽ ngủ ban đêm. 4Vậy, Giô-suê gọi mười hai người mà mình đã chọn trong dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, mỗi chi phái một người, 5mà truyền rằng: Hãy đi qua trước hòm của Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi tại giữa sông Giô-đanh, rồi mỗi người, theo số chi phái Y-sơ-ra-ên, phải vác một hòn đá trên vai mình, 6hầu cho điều đó làm một dấu ở giữa các ngươi. Về sau, khi con cháu các ngươi hỏi rằng: Những hòn đá này có nghĩa chi? 7thì hãy đáp rằng: Ấy là nước sông Giô-đanh đã rẽ ra trước hòm giao ước của Ðức Giê-hô-va; khi hòm đi ngang qua sông Giô-đanh; thì nước sông bèn rẽ ra; các hòn đá này dùng cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên làm kỷ niệm đời đời. 8Vậy, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên làm theo điều Giô-suê đã biểu, bèn lấy mười hai hòn đá ở giữa sông Giô-đanh, theo số chi phái dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, và đem nó theo cùng mình đến chỗ nào phải ngủ ban đêm, rồi đặt tại đó, y như Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phán dặn Giô-suê. 9Giô-suê cũng dựng mười hai hòn đá giữa sông Giô-đanh, tại nơi chơn những thầy tế lễ khiêng hòm giao ước đã đứng; các hòn đá ấy hãy còn ở đó cho đến ngày nay. 10Những thầy tế lễ khiêng hòm đều đứng giữa sông Giô-đanh cho đến chừng nào đã làm xong mọi việc mà Ðức Giê-hô-va đã dặn biểu Giô-suê truyền lại cho dân sự, theo mạng lịnh mà Môi-se đã truyền cho Giô-suê. Dân sự bèn lật đật đi qua sông. 11Khi cả dân sự đã đi qua sông rồi, thì hòm của Ðức Giê-hô-va, và những thầy tế lễ cũng đi qua trước mặt dân sự. 12Con cháu Ru-bên, con cháu Gát, và phân nửa chi phái Ma-na-se cầm binh khí đi trước dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, y như Môi-se đã dặn biểu họ. 13Có chừng bốn muôn người sắm sửa ra trận, đi qua trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, đến trong đồng bằng Giê-ri-cô, đặng đánh giặc. 14Ngày đó, Ðức Giê-hô-va khiến Giô-suê được tôn trọng trước mặt cả Y-sơ-ra-ên, và chúng kính sợ người trọn đời người, như đã kính sợ Môi-se vậy. 15Vả, Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng Giô-suê rằng: 16Hãy truyền cho những thầy tế lễ khiêng hòm bảng chứng đi lên khỏi sông Giô-đanh. 17Giô-suê bèn truyền lịnh cho những thầy tế lễ rằng: Hãy đi lên khỏi Giô-đanh. 18Khi những thầy tế lễ khiêng hòm giao ước của Ðức Giê-hô-va đã lên khỏi giữa ông, và bàn chơn họ dở lên đặng bước trên đất khô rồi, thì nước sông Giô-đanh trở lại chỗ cũ và chảy tràn ra khắp mé như trước. 19Ngày mồng mười tháng giêng, dân sự đi lên khỏi sông Giô-đanh, và đóng trại tại Ghinh-ganh, ở cuối phía đông Giê-ri-cô. 20Giô-suê dựng tại Ghinh-ganh mười hai hòn đá mà dân chúng đã lấy dưới sông Giô-đanh. 21Ðoạn, người nói cùng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên rằng: Về sau, khi con cháu các ngươi hỏi cha mình rằng: Các hòn đá này có nghĩa gì? 22thì các ngươi sẽ dạy con cháu mình mà rằng: Y-sơ-ra-ên đã đi qua sông Giô-đanh trên đất khô, 23vì Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi đã làm cho sông Giô-đanh bày khô trước mặt các ngươi, cho đến chừng nào các ngươi đã qua khỏi, y như Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi đã làm tại Biển đỏ, khiến cho nó bày khô trước mặt chúng ta, cho đến chừng nào chúng ta đã qua khỏi, 24hầu cho các dân tộc thế gian biết rằng tay của Ðức Giê-hô-va là rất mạnh, và cho các ngươi kính sợ Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi luôn luôn.
1When all the nation had completely passed over the Jordan, Yahweh spoke to Joshua, saying, 2“Take twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man, 3and command them, saying, ‘Take from out of the middle of the Jordan, out of the place where the priests’ feet stood firm, twelve stones, and carry them over with you, and lay them down in the lodging place, where you will lodge tonight.’” 4Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man. 5Joshua said to them, “Pass over before the ark of Yahweh your God into the middle of the Jordan, and each of you pick up a stone and put it on your shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel; 6that this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask in time to come, saying, ‘What do you mean by these stones?’ 7then you shall tell them, ‘Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of Yahweh. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.’” 8The children of Israel did as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the middle of the Jordan, as Yahweh spoke to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel; and they carried them over with them to the place where they lodged, and laid them down there. 9Joshua set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant stood; and they are there to this day. 10For the priests who bore the ark stood in the middle of the Jordan, until everything was finished that Yahweh commanded Joshua to speak to the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua; and the people hurried and passed over. 11When all the people had completely passed over, Yahweh’s ark passed over, with the priests, in the presence of the people. 12The children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spoke to them. 13About forty thousand men, ready and armed for war passed over before Yahweh to battle, to the plains of Jericho. 14On that day, Yahweh magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life. 15Yahweh spoke to Joshua, saying, 16“Command the priests who bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of the Jordan.” 17Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, “Come up out of the Jordan!” 18When the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of Yahweh had come up out of the middle of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up to the dry ground, the waters of the Jordan returned to their place, and went over all its banks, as before. 19The people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, on the east border of Jericho. 20Joshua set up those twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan, in Gilgal. 21He spoke to the children of Israel, saying, “When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 22Then you shall let your children know, saying, ‘Israel came over this Jordan on dry land. 23For Yahweh your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you, until you had passed over, as Yahweh your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up from before us, until we had passed over; 24that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of Yahweh, that it is mighty; that you may fear Yahweh your God forever.’”
1Het geschiedde nu, toen al het volk geeindigd had over de Jordaan te trekken, dat de HEERE tot Jozua sprak, zeggende: 2Neemt gijlieden u twaalf mannen uit het volk, uit elken stam een man. 3En gebiedt hun, zeggende: Neemt voor ulieden op, van hier uit het midden van de Jordaan, uit de standplaats van de voeten der priesteren, en bereidt twaalf stenen, en brengt ze met ulieden over, en stelt ze in het nachtleger, waar gij dezen nacht zult vernachten. 4Jozua dan riep die twaalf mannen, die hij had doen bestellen van de kinderen Israels, uit elken stam een man. 5En Jozua zeide tot hen: Gaat over voor de ark des HEEREN, uws Gods, midden in de Jordaan; en heft u een ieder een steen op zijn schouder, naar het getal der stammen van de kinderen Israels; 6Opdat dit een teken zij onder ulieden; wanneer uw kinderen morgen vragen zullen, zeggende: Wat zijn u deze stenen? 7Zo zult gij tot hen zeggen: Omdat de wateren van de Jordaan zijn afgesneden geweest voor de ark des verbonds des HEEREN; als zij toog door de Jordaan, werden de wateren van de Jordaan afgesneden; zo zullen deze stenen den kinderen Israels ter gedachtenis zijn tot in eeuwigheid. 8De kinderen Israels nu deden alzo, gelijk als Jozua geboden had; en zij namen twaalf stenen op midden uit de Jordaan, gelijk als de HEERE tot Jozua gesproken had, naar het getal der stammen van de kinderen Israels; en zij brachten ze met zich over naar het nachtleger, en stelden ze aldaar. 9Jozua richtte ook twaalf stenen op, midden in de Jordaan, ter standplaats van de voeten der priesteren, die de ark des verbonds droegen; en zij zijn daar tot op dezen dag. 10De priesters nu, die de ark droegen, stonden midden in de Jordaan, totdat alle ding volbracht was, hetwelk de HEERE Jozua geboden had het volk aan te zeggen, naar al wat Mozes Jozua geboden had. En het volk haastte, en het trok over. 11En het geschiedde, als al het volk geeindigd had over te gaan, toen ging de ark des HEEREN over, en de priesters voor het aangezicht des volks. 12En de kinderen van Ruben, en de kinderen van Gad, mitsgaders de halve stam van Manasse, trokken gewapend voor het aangezicht der kinderen Israels, gelijk als Mozes tot hen gesproken had. 13Omtrent veertig duizend toegeruste krijgsmannen trokken er voor het aangezicht des HEEREN ten strijde, naar de vlakke velden van Jericho. 14Te dienzelven dage maakte de HEERE Jozua groot voor de ogen van het ganse Israel; en zij vreesden hem, gelijk als zij Mozes gevreesd hadden, al de dagen zijns levens. 15De HEERE dan sprak tot Jozua, zeggende: 16Gebied den priesteren, die de ark der getuigenis dragen, dat zij uit de Jordaan opklimmen. 17Toen gebood Jozua den priesteren, zeggende: Klimt op uit de Jordaan. 18En het geschiedde, toen de priesters, die de ark des verbonds des HEEREN droegen, uit het midden van de Jordaan opgeklommen waren, en de voetzolen der priesteren afgetrokken waren tot op het droge; zo keerden de wateren van de Jordaan weder in hun plaats, en gingen als gisteren en eergisteren aan al haar oevers. 19Het volk nu was den tiende der eerste maand uit de Jordaan opgeklommen; en zij legerden zich te Gilgal, aan het oosteinde van Jericho. 20En Jozua richtte die twaalf stenen te Gilgal op, die zij uit de Jordaan genomen hadden. 21En hij sprak tot de kinderen Israels, zeggende: Wanneer uw kinderen morgen hun vaderen vragen zullen, zeggende: Wat zijn deze stenen? 22Zo zult gij het uw kinderen te kennen geven, zeggende: Op het droge is Israel door deze Jordaan gegaan. 23Want de HEERE, uw God, heeft de wateren van de Jordaan voor uw aangezichten doen uitdrogen, totdat gijlieden er waart doorgegaan; gelijk als de HEERE, uw God, aan de Schelfzee gedaan heeft, die Hij voor ons aangezicht heeft doen uitdrogen, totdat wij daardoor gegaan waren; 24Opdat alle volken der aarde de hand des HEEREN kennen zouden, dat zij sterk is; opdat gijlieden den HEERE, uw God, vrezet te allen dage.
