1Khi Ðức Giê-hô-va ban sự an nghỉ cho Y-sơ-ra-ên từ lâu rồi, giải cứu họ khỏi các thù nghịch ở bốn phía, và Giô-suê đã già tuổi tác cao, 2thì người gọi cả Y-sơ-ra-ên, các trưởng lão, các quan trưởng, các quan xét, và các quan tướng mà nói rằng: Ta là lão già đã cao tuổi rồi. 3Các ngươi đã thấy mọi điều Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi đã làm cho những dân tộc này mà Ngài bắt qui phục các ngươi; vì ấy là Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi đã chiến đấu cho các ngươi. 4Kìa, tùy theo chi phái, ta đã bắt thăm cấp cho các ngươi làm sản nghiệp xứ chưa đánh lấy, và xứ của những dân tộc mà ta đã diệt, từ sông Giô-đanh cho đến biển lớn, về phía mặt trời lặn. 5Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi sẽ đuổi và cất dân ấy khỏi trước mặt các ngươi, và các ngươi sẽ nhận được xứ nó, y như Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi đã phán. 6Vậy, hãy vững lòng gìn giữ làm theo mọi điều đã ghi trong sách luật pháp của Môi-se, chớ xây qua bên hữu hoặc bên tả. 7Chớ nên xen lộn cùng các dân tộc này còn ở lại giữa các ngươi, chớ xưng đến danh các thần chúng nó, chớ biểu ai bắt các thần ấy mà thề, chớ hầu việc, và đừng quì lạy trước các thần đó. 8Nhưng phải tríu mến Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi, y như các ngươi đã làm đến ngày nay. 9Vì Ðức Giê-hô-va đã đuổi khỏi trước mặt các ngươi những dân tộc lớn và cường thạnh, và đến ngày nay chẳng ai đứng nổi trước mặt các ngươi. 10Một người trong các ngươi đuổi được đến ngàn người của chúng nó; vì Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi là Ðấng chiến đấu cho các ngươi, y như Ngài đã phán. 11Vậy, hãy cẩn thận lấy mình đặng kính mến Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi. 12Vả, nếu các ngươi trở lòng và hiệp với phần còn lại của các dân tộc này ở giữa các ngươi, nếu các ngươi làm sui gia cùng chúng nó, hoặc các ngươi xen vào cùng chúng nó, và chúng nó cùng các ngươi, 13thì phải biết rõ ràng Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi chẳng còn cứ đuổi những dân tộc này khỏi trước mặt các ngươi nữa; nhưng chúng nó sẽ làm lưới và bẫy cho các ngươi, làm roi đánh nơi hông, làm chông gai chích trong mắt, cho đến chừng nào các ngươi bị diệt mất khỏi xứ tốt đẹp này mà Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi đã ban cho. 14Nầy, ngày nay ta sẽ đi đường cả thế gian phải đi; vậy, hãy hết lòng hết ý nhận biết rằng trong các lời lành mà Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi đã phán về các ngươi, chẳng có một lời nào sai hết, thảy đều ứng nghiệm cho các ngươi; thật chẳng một lời nào sai hết. 15Vả, hễ các lời lành mà Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi đã phán được ứng nghiệm cho các ngươi thế nào, thì Ðức Giê-hô-va cũng sẽ làm ứng nghiệm những lời hăm dọa của Ngài trên các ngươi thế ấy, cho đến chừng Ngài diệt các ngươi khỏi xứ tốt đẹp này mà Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi đã ban cho. 16Nếu các ngươi bội giao ước của Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi đã dặn biểu, nếu các ngươi đi hầu việc các thần khác, và quì lạy trước chúng nó, thì cơn thạnh nộ của Ðức Giê-hô-va sẽ nổi phừng cùng các ngươi, và các ngươi bị diệt mất liền khỏi xứ tốt đẹp mà Ngài đã ban cho.
1After many days, when Yahweh had given rest to Israel from their enemies all around, and Joshua was old and well advanced in years, 2Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders and for their heads, and for their judges and for their officers, and said to them, “I am old and well advanced in years. 3You have seen all that Yahweh your God has done to all these nations because of you; for it is Yahweh your God who has fought for you. 4Behold, I have allotted to you these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from the Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even to the great sea toward the going down of the sun. 5Yahweh your God will thrust them out from before you, and drive them from out of your sight. You shall possess their land, as Yahweh your God spoke to you. 6“Therefore be very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that you not turn aside from it to the right hand or to the left; 7that you not come among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow down yourselves to them; 8but hold fast to Yahweh your God, as you have done to this day. 9“For Yahweh has driven great and strong nations out from before you. But as for you, no man has stood before you to this day. 10One man of you shall chase a thousand; for it is Yahweh your God who fights for you, as he spoke to you. 11Take good heed therefore to yourselves, that you love Yahweh your God. 12“But if you do at all go back, and hold fast to the remnant of these nations, even these who remain among you, and make marriages with them, and go in to them, and they to you; 13know for a certainty that Yahweh your God will no longer drive these nations from out of your sight; but they shall be a snare and a trap to you, a scourge in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good land which Yahweh your God has given you. 14“Behold, today I am going the way of all the earth. You know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one thing has failed of all the good things which Yahweh your God spoke concerning you. All have happened to you. Not one thing has failed of it. 15It shall happen that as all the good things have come on you of which Yahweh your God spoke to you, so Yahweh will bring on you all the evil things, until he has destroyed you from off this good land which Yahweh your God has given you, 16when you disobey the covenant of Yahweh your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods, and bow down yourselves to them. Then Yahweh’s anger will be kindled against you, and you will perish quickly from off the good land which he has given to you.”
1En het geschiedde na vele dagen, nadat de HEERE Israel rust gegeven had van al zijn vijanden rondom heen, en Jozua oud geworden en wel bedaagd was; 2Zo riep Jozua gans Israel, hun oudsten, en hun hoofden, en hun richters, en hun ambtlieden, en hij zeide tot hen: Ik ben oud geworden, en wel bedaagd; 3En gijlieden hebt gezien alles, wat de HEERE, uw God, gedaan heeft aan al deze volken voor uw aangezicht; want de HEERE, uw God, Zelf, is het, Die voor u gestreden heeft. 4Ziet, ik heb u deze overige volken door het lot doen toevallen, ten erfdeel voor uw stammen, van de Jordaan af, met al de volken, die ik uitgeroeid heb, en tot de grote zee, tegen den ondergang der zon. 5En de HEERE, uw God, Zelf zal hen uitstoten voor ulieder aangezicht, en Hij zal hen van voor ulieder aangezicht verdrijven; en gij zult hun land erfelijk bezitten, gelijk als de HEERE, uw God, tot u gesproken heeft. 6Zo weest zeer sterk, om te bewaren en om te doen alles, wat geschreven is in het wetboek van Mozes; opdat gij daarvan niet afwijkt ter rechter hand noch ter linkerhand; 7Dat gij niet ingaat tot deze volken: deze, die overgebleven zijn bij ulieden; gedenkt ook niet aan den naam hunner goden, en doet er niet bij zweren, en dient hen niet, en buigt u voor die niet; 8Maar den HEERE, uw God, zult gij aanhangen, gelijk als gij tot op dezen dag gedaan hebt. 9Want de HEERE heeft van uw aangezicht verdreven grote en machtige volken; en u aangaande, niemand heeft voor uw aangezicht bestaan, tot op dezen dag toe. 10Een enig man onder u zal er duizend jagen; want het is de HEERE, uw God, Zelf, Die voor u strijdt, gelijk al Hij tot u gesproken heeft. 11Daarom bewaart uw zielen naarstiglijk, dat gij den HEERE, uw God, liefhebt. 12Want zo gij enigszins afkeert, en het overige van deze volken aanhangt, van deze, die bij u overgebleven zijn, en u met hen verzwagert, en gij tot hen zult ingaan, en zij tot u; 13Weet voorzeker, dat de HEERE, uw God, niet voortvaren zal deze volken van voor uw aangezicht te verdrijven; maar zij zullen ulieden zijn tot een strik, en tot een net, en tot een gesel aan uw zijden, en tot doornen in uw ogen, totdat gij omkomt van dit goede land, hetwelk u de HEERE, uw God, gegeven heeft. 14En ziet, ik ga heden in den weg der ganse aarde; en gij weet in uw ganse hart en in uw ganse ziel, dat er niet een enig woord gevallen is van al die goede woorden, welke de HEERE, uw God, over u gesproken heeft; zij zijn u alle overkomen; er is van dezelve niet een enig woord gevallen. 15En het zal geschieden, gelijk als al die goede dingen over u gekomen zijn, die de HEERE, uw God, tot u gesproken heeft, alzo zal de HEERE over u komen laten al die kwade dingen, totdat Hij u verdelge van dit goede land, hetwelk u HEERE, uw God gegeven heeft. 16Wanneer gij het verbond des HEEREN, uws Gods, overtreedt, dat Hij u geboden heeft, en gij heengaat en dient andere goden, en u voor dezelve nederbuigt, zo zal de toorn des HEEREN over u ontsteken, en gij zult haastiglijk omkomen van het goede land, hetwelk Hij u gegeven heeft.
