1Rồi đó, Ðức Chúa Jêsus qua bờ bên kia biển Ga-li-lê, là biển Ti-bê-ri-át. 2Một đoàn dân đông theo Ngài, vì từng thấy các phép lạ Ngài làm cho những kẻ bịnh. 3Nhưng Ðức Chúa Jêsus lên trên núi, ngồi đó với môn đồ. 4Vả, lễ Vượt Qua, là lễ của đến Giu-đa gần tới. 5Ðức Chúa Jêsus ngước mắt lên, thấy một đoàn dân đông đến cùng mình, bèn phán với Phi-líp rằng: Chúng ta sẽ mua bánh ở đâu, để cho dân nầy có mà ăn? 6Ngài phán điều đó đặng thử Phi-líp, chớ Ngài đã biết điều Ngài sẽ làm rồi. 7Phi-líp thưa rằng: Hai trăm đơ-ni-ê bánh không đủ phát cho mỗi người một ít. 8Một môn đồ, là Anh-rê, em của Si-môn Phi -e-rơ, thưa rằng: 9Ðây có một đứa con trai, có năm cái bánh mạch nha và hai con cá; nhưng đông người dường nầy, thì ngằn ấy có thấm vào đâu? 10Ðức Chúa Jêsus bèn phán rằng: Hãy truyền cho chúng ngồi xuống. Vả, trong nơi đó có nhiều cỏ. Vậy, chúng ngồi xuống, số người ước được năm ngàn. 11Ðức Chúa Jêsus lấy bánh, tạ ơn rồi, bèn phân phát cho những kẻ đã ngồi; Ngài cũng lấy cá phát cho chúng nữa, ai muốn bao nhiêu mặc ý. 12Khi chúng đã ăn được no nê, Ngài phán với môn đồ rằng: Hãy lượm những miếng còn thừa, hầu cho không mất chút nào. 13Vậy, môn đồ lượm những miếng thừa của năm cái bánh mạch nha, sau khi người ta đã ăn rồi, chứa đầy mười hai giỏ. 14Những người đó thấy phép lạ Ðức Chúa Jêsus đã làm, thì nói rằng: Người nầy thật là Ðấng tiên tri phải đến thế gian. 15Bấy giờ Ðức Chúa Jêsus biết chúng có ý đến ép Ngài để tôn làm vua, bèn lui ở một mình trên núi. 16Ðến chiều, môn đồ xuống nơi bờ biển, 17và vào trong một chiếc thuyền, sang thẳng bờ bên kia, hướng về thành Ca-bê-na-um. Trời chợt tối, mà Ðức Chúa Jêsus còn chưa đến cùng các môn đồ. 18Gió thổi ào ào, đến nỗi biển động dữ dội. 19Khi các môn đồ đã chèo ra độ chừng hai mươi lăm hay là ba mươi ếch-ta-đơ, thấy Ðức Chúa Jêsus đi trên mặt biển, gần tới chiếc thuyền, thì sợ hãi. 20Nhưng Ngài phán rằng: Ấy là ta đây, đừng sợ chi! 21Bấy giờ, môn đồ muốn rước Ngài vào thuyền; tức thì chiếc thuyền đậu vào bờ, là nơi định đi. 22Ðoàn dân ở bờ biển bên kia, đã nhận rằng ở đó chỉ có một chiếc thuyền với môn đồ Ngài, chỉ một mình môn đồ đi mà thôi. 23Qua ngày sau, có mấy chiếc thuyền khác từ thành Ti-bê-ri-át lại gần nơi chúng đã ăn bánh khi Chúa tạ ơn rồi, 24đoàn dân thấy Ðức Chúa Jêsus không ở đó môn đồ cũng không, bèn vào mấy thuyền kia mà đi qua thành Ca-bê-na-um để tìm Ðức Chúa Jêsus. 25Chúng vừa tìm được Ngài tại bờ bên kia biển, bèn thưa rằng: Lạy thầy, thầy đến đây bao giờ? 26Ðức Chúa Jêsus đáp rằng: Quả thật, quả thật, ta nói cùng các ngươi, các ngươi tìm ta chẳng phải vì đã thấy mấy phép lạ, nhưng vì các ngươi đã ăn bánh và được no. 27Hãy làm việc, chớ vì đồ ăn hay hư nát, nhưng vì đồ ăn còn lại đến sự sống đời đời, là thứ Con người sẽ ban cho các ngươi; vì ấy là Con, mà Cha, tức là chính Ðức Chúa Trời, đã ghi ấn tín của mình. 28Chúng thưa rằng: Chúng tôi phải làm chi cho được làm công việc Ðức Chúa Trời? 29Ðức Chúa Jêsus đáp rằng: Các ngươi tin Ðấng mà Ðức Chúa Trời đã sai đến, ấy đó là công việc Ngài. 30Chúng bèn nói rằng: Thế thì thầy làm phép lạ gì, để cho chúng tôi thấy và tin? Thầy làm công việc gì? 31Tổ phụ chúng ta đã ăn ma-na trong đồng vắng, theo như lời chép rằng: Ngài đã ban cho họ ăn bánh từ trên trời xuống. 32Ðức Chúa Jêsus đáp rằng: Quả thật, quả thật, ta nói cùng các ngươi, Môi-se chưa hề cho các ngươi bánh từ trên trời đâu; nhưng Cha ta ban cho các ngươi bánh thật, là bánh từ trên trời xuống. 33Bởi chưng bánh Ðức Chúa Trời là bánh từ trên trời giáng xuống, ban sự sống cho thế gian. 34Chúng thưa rằng: Lạy Chúa, xin ban bánh đó cho chúng tôi luôn luôn! 35Ðức Chúa Jêsus phán rằng: Ta là bánh của sự sống; ai đến cùng ta chẳng hề đói, và ai tin ta chẳng hề khát. 36Nhưng ta đã nói: Các ngươi đã thấy ta, mà chẳng tin. 37Phàm những kẻ Cha cho ta sẽ đến cùng ta, kẻ đến cùng ta thì ta không bỏ ra ngoài đâu. 38Vì ta từ trên trời xuống, chẳng phải để làm theo ý ta, nhưng làm theo ý Ðấng đã sai ta đến. 39Vả, ý muốn của Ðấng đã sai ta đến là hễ sự gì Ngài đã ban cho ta, thì ta chớ làm mất, nhưng ta phải làm cho sống lại nơi ngày sau rốt. 40Ðây là ý muốn của Cha ta, phàm ai nhìn Con và tin Con, thì được sự sống đời đời; còn ta, ta sẽ làm cho kẻ ấy sống lại nơi ngày sau rốt. 41Nhưng vì Ngài đã phán: Ta là bánh từ trên trời xuống, nên các ngươi Giu-đa lằm bằm về Ngài, 42mà rằng: Ấy chẳng phải là Jêsus, con của Giô-sép, mà chúng ta đều biết cha mẹ người chăng? Vậy, thể nào người nói được rằng: Ta đã từ trên trời mà xuống? 43Ðức Chúa Jêsus đáp rằng: Các ngươi chớ lằm bằm với nhau. 44Ví bằng Cha, là Ðấng sai ta, không kéo đến, thì chẳng có ai được đến cùng ta, và ta sẽ làm cho người đó sống lại nơi ngày sau rốt. 45Các sách tiên tri có chép rằng: Ai nấy đều sẽ được Ðức Chúa Trời dạy dỗ. Hễ ai đã nghe Cha và học theo Ngài thì đến cùng ta. 46Ấy chẳng phải kẻ nào đã từng thấy Cha, trừ ra Ðấng từ Ðức Chúa Trời mà đến; Ðấng ấy đã thấy Cha. 47Quả thật, quả thật, ta nói cùng các ngươi, hễ ai tin thì được sự sống đời đời. 48Ta là bánh của sự sống. 49Tổ phụ các ngươi đã ăn ma-na trong đồng vắng, rồi cũng chết. 50Ðây là bánh từ trời xuống, hầu cho ai ăn chẳng hề chết. 51Ta là bánh từ trên trời xuống; nếu ai ăn bánh ấy, thì sẽ sống vô cùng; và bánh mà ta sẽ ban cho vì sự sống của thế gian tức là thịt ta. 52Bởi đó, các ngươi Giu-đa cãi lẽ với nhau, mà rằng: Lẽ nào người nầy lấy thịt mình cho chúng ta ăn sao? 53Ðức Chúa Jêsus bèn phán cùng họ rằng: Quả thật, quả thật, ta nói cùng các ngươi, nếu các ngươi không ăn thịt của Con người, cùng không uống huyết Ngài, thì chẳng có sự sống trong các ngươi đâu. 54Ai ăn thịt và uống huyết ta thì được sự sống đời đời; nơi ngày sau rốt, ta sẽ khiến người đó sống lại. 55Vì thịt ta thật là đồ ăn, huyết ta thật là đồ uống. 56Người nào ăn thịt ta và uống huyết ta, thì ở trong ta, và ta ở trong người. 57Như Cha, là Ðấng hằng sống, đã sai ta đến, và ta sống bởi Cha; cũng một thể ấy, người nào ăn ta, sẽ sống bởi ta vậy. 58Ðây là bánh từ trên trời xuống. Bánh đó chẳng phải như ma-na mà tổ phụ các ngươi đã ăn, rồi cũng sẽ chết; kẻ nào ăn bánh nầy sẽ sống đời đời. 59Ðức Chúa Jêsus phán những điều đó lúc dạy dỗ trong nhà hội tại thành Ca-bê-na-um. 60Có nhiều môn đồ nghe Ngài, thì nói rằng: Lời nầy thật khó; ai nghe được? 61Nhưng Ðức Chúa Jêsus tự mình biết môn đồ lằm bằm về việc đó, bèn phán rằng: Ðiều đó xui cho các ngươi vấp phạm sao? 62Vậy, nếu các ngươi thấy Con người lên nơi Ngài vốn ở khi trước thì thể nào? 63Ấy là thần linh làm cho sống, xác thịt chẳng ích chi. Những lời ta phán cùng các ngươi đều là thần linh và sự sống. 64Song trong vòng các ngươi có kẻ không tin. Vì Ðức Chúa Jêsus biết từ ban đầu, ai là kẻ không tin, ai là kẻ sẽ phản Ngài. 65Ngài lại phán rằng: Chính vì cớ đó, mà ta đã nói cùng các ngươi rằng nếu Cha chẳng ban cho, thì chẳng ai tới cùng ta được. 66Từ lúc ấy, có nhiều môn đồ Ngài trở lui, không đi với Ngài nữa. 67Ðức Chúa Jêsus phán cùng mười hai sứ đồ rằng: Còn các ngươi, cũng muốn lui chăng? 68Si-môn Phi -e-rơ thưa rằng: Lạy Chúa, chúng tôi đi theo ai? Chúa có những lời của sự sống đời đời; 69chúng tôi đã tin và nhận biết rằng Chúa là Ðấng thánh của Ðức Chúa Trời. 70Ðức Chúa Jêsus đáp rằng: Ta há chẳng đã chọn các ngươi là mười hai sứ đồ sao? Mà một người trong các ngươi là quỉ! 71Vả, Ngài nói về Giu-đa con Si-môn Ích-ca-ri-ốt; vì chính hắn là một trong mười hai sứ đồ, sau sẽ phản Ngài.
1After these things, Jesus went away to the other side of the sea of Galilee, which is also called the Sea of Tiberias. 2A great multitude followed him, because they saw his signs which he did on those who were sick. 3Jesus went up into the mountain, and he sat there with his disciples. 4Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand. 5Jesus therefore lifting up his eyes, and seeing that a great multitude was coming to him, said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, that these may eat?” 6This he said to test him, for he himself knew what he would do. 7Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that everyone of them may receive a little.” 8One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him, 9“There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these among so many?” 10Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in that place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. 11Jesus took the loaves; and having given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those who were sitting down; likewise also of the fish as much as they desired. 12When they were filled, he said to his disciples, “Gather up the broken pieces which are left over, that nothing be lost.” 13So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which were left over by those who had eaten. 14When therefore the people saw the sign which Jesus did, they said, “This is truly the prophet who comes into the world.” 15Jesus therefore, perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force, to make him king, withdrew again to the mountain by himself. 16When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, 17and they entered into the boat, and were going over the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not come to them. 18The sea was tossed by a great wind blowing. 19When therefore they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they saw Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing near to the boat; and they were afraid. 20But he said to them, “It is I. Don’t be afraid.” 21They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat. Immediately the boat was at the land where they were going. 22On the next day, the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except the one in which his disciples had embarked, and that Jesus hadn’t entered with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples had gone away alone. 23However boats from Tiberias came near to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks. 24When the multitude therefore saw that Jesus wasn’t there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus. 25When they found him on the other side of the sea, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?” 26Jesus answered them, “Most certainly I tell you, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves, and were filled. 27Don’t work for the food which perishes, but for the food which remains to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has sealed him.” 28They said therefore to him, “What must we do, that we may work the works of God?” 29Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” 30They said therefore to him, “What then do you do for a sign, that we may see, and believe you? What work do you do? 31Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness. As it is written, ‘He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’” 32Jesus therefore said to them, “Most certainly, I tell you, it wasn’t Moses who gave you the bread out of heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread out of heaven. 33For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.” 34They said therefore to him, “Lord, always give us this bread.” 35Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. 36But I told you that you have seen me, and yet you don’t believe. 37All those whom the Father gives me will come to me. He who comes to me I will in no way throw out. 38For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me. 39This is the will of my Father who sent me, that of all he has given to me I should lose nothing, but should raise him up at the last day. 40This is the will of the one who sent me, that everyone who sees the Son, and believes in him, should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.” 41The Jews therefore murmured concerning him, because he said, “I am the bread which came down out of heaven.” 42They said, “Isn’t this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How then does he say, ‘I have come down out of heaven?’” 43Therefore Jesus answered them, “Don’t murmur among yourselves. 44No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up in the last day. 45It is written in the prophets, ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who hears from the Father, and has learned, comes to me. 46Not that anyone has seen the Father, except he who is from God. He has seen the Father. 47Most certainly, I tell you, he who believes in me has eternal life. 48I am the bread of life. 49Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, that anyone may eat of it and not die. 51I am the living bread which came down out of heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. Yes, the bread which I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” 52The Jews therefore contended with one another, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” 53Jesus therefore said to them, “Most certainly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you don’t have life in yourselves. 54He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him. 57As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he who feeds on me, he will also live because of me. 58This is the bread which came down out of heaven—not as our fathers ate the manna, and died. He who eats this bread will live forever.” 59He said these things in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum. 60Therefore many of his disciples, when they heard this, said, “This is a hard saying! Who can listen to it?” 61But Jesus knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at this, said to them, “Does this cause you to stumble? 62Then what if you would see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? 63It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life. 64But there are some of you who don’t believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who didn’t believe, and who it was who would betray him. 65He said, “For this cause have I said to you that no one can come to me, unless it is given to him by my Father.” 66At this, many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. 67Jesus said therefore to the twelve, “You don’t also want to go away, do you?” 68Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69We have come to believe and know that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 70Jesus answered them, “Didn’t I choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?” 71Now he spoke of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, for it was he who would betray him, being one of the twelve.
1Na dezen vertrok Jezus over de zee van Galilea, welke is de zee van Tiberias. 2En Hem volgde een grote schare, omdat zij Zijn tekenen zagen, die Hij deed aan de kranken. 3En Jezus ging op den berg, en zat aldaar neder met Zijn discipelen. 4En het pascha, het feest der Joden, was nabij. 5Jezus dan, de ogen opheffende, en ziende, dat een grote schare tot Hem kwam, zeide tot Filippus: Van waar zullen wij broden kopen, opdat deze eten mogen? 6(Doch dit zeide Hij, hem beproevende; want Hij wist Zelf, wat Hij doen zou.) 7Filippus antwoordde Hem: Voor tweehonderd penningen brood is voor dezen niet genoeg, opdat een iegelijk van hen een weinig neme. 8Een van Zijn discipelen, namelijk Andreas, de broeder van Simon Petrus, zeide tot Hem: 9Hier is een jongsken, dat vijf gerstebroden heeft, en twee visjes; maar wat zijn deze onder zo velen? 10En Jezus zeide: Doet de mensen nederzitten. En er was veel gras in die plaats. Zo zaten dan de mannen neder, omtrent vijf duizend in getal. 11En Jezus nam de broden, en gedankt hebbende, deelde Hij ze den discipelen, en de discipelen dengenen, die nedergezeten waren; desgelijks ook van de visjes, zoveel zij wilden. 12En als zij verzadigd waren, zeide Hij tot Zijn discipelen: Vergadert de overgeschoten brokken, opdat er niets verloren ga. 13Zij vergaderden ze dan, en vulden twaalf korven met brokken van de vijf gerstebroden, welke overgeschoten waren dengenen, die gegeten hadden. 14De mensen dan, gezien hebbende het teken, dat Jezus gedaan had, zeiden: Deze is waarlijk de Profeet, Die in de wereld komen zou. 15Jezus dan, wetende, dat zij zouden komen, en Hem met geweld nemen, opdat zij Hem Koning maakten, ontweek wederom op den berg, Hij Zelf alleen. 16En als het avond geworden was, gingen Zijn discipelen af naar de zee. 17En in het schip gegaan zijnde, kwamen zij over de zee naar Kapernaum. En het was alrede duister geworden, en Jezus was tot hen niet gekomen. 18En de zee verhief zich, overmits er een grote wind waaide. 19En als zij omtrent vijf en twintig of dertig stadien gevaren waren, zagen zij Jezus, wandelende op de zee, en komende bij het schip; en zij werden bevreesd. 20Maar Hij zeide tot hen: Ik ben het; zijt niet bevreesd. 21Zij hebben dan Hem gewilliglijk in het schip genomen; en terstond kwam het schip aan het land, daar zij naar toe voeren. 22Des anderen daags de schare, die aan de andere zijde der zee stond, ziende, dat aldaar geen ander scheepje was dan dat ene, daar Zijn discipelen ingegaan waren, en dat Jezus met Zijn discipelen in dat scheepje niet was gegaan, maar dat Zijn discipelen alleen weggevaren waren; 23(Doch er kwamen andere scheepjes van Tiberias, nabij de plaats, waar zij het brood gegeten hadden, als de Heere gedankt had.) 24Toen dan de schare zag, dat Jezus aldaar niet was, noch Zijn discipelen, zo gingen zij ook in de schepen, en kwamen te Kapernaum, zoekende Jezus. 25En als zij Hem gevonden hadden over de zee, zeiden zij tot Hem: Rabbi, wanneer zijt Gij hier gekomen? 26Jezus antwoordde hun en zeide: Voorwaar, voorwaar zeg Ik u: gij zoekt Mij, niet omdat gij tekenen gezien hebt, maar omdat gij van de broden gegeten hebt, en verzadigd zijt. 27Werkt niet om de spijs, die vergaat, maar om de spijs, die blijft tot in het eeuwige leven, welke de Zoon des mensen ulieden geven zal; want Dezen heeft God de Vader verzegeld. 28Zij zeiden dan tot Hem: Wat zullen wij doen, opdat wij de werken Gods mogen werken? 29Jezus antwoordde en zeide tot hen: Dit is het werk Gods, dat gij gelooft in Hem, Dien Hij gezonden heeft. 30Zij zeiden dan tot Hem: Wat teken doet Gij dan, opdat wij het mogen zien, en U geloven? Wat werkt Gij? 31Onze vaders hebben het Manna gegeten in de woestijn; gelijk geschreven is: Hij gaf hun het brood uit den hemel te eten. 32Jezus dan zeide tot hen: Voorwaar, voorwaar zeg Ik u: Mozes heeft u niet gegeven het brood uit den hemel; maar Mijn Vader geeft u dat ware Brood uit den hemel. 33Want het Brood Gods is Hij, Die uit den hemel nederdaalt, en Die der wereld het leven geeft. 34Zij zeiden dan tot Hem: Heere, geef ons altijd dit Brood. 35En Jezus zeide tot hen: Ik ben het Brood des levens; die tot Mij komt, zal geenszins hongeren, en die in Mij gelooft, zal nimmermeer dorsten. 36Maar Ik heb u gezegd, dat gij Mij ook gezien hebt, en gij gelooft niet. 37Al wat Mij de Vader geeft, zal tot Mij komen; en die tot Mij komt, zal Ik geenszins uitwerpen. 38Want Ik ben uit den hemel nedergedaald, niet opdat Ik Mijn wil zou doen, maar den wil Desgenen, Die Mij gezonden heeft. 39En dit is de wil des Vaders, Die Mij gezonden heeft, dat al wat Hij Mij gegeven heeft, Ik daaruit niet verlieze, maar hetzelve opwekke ten uitersten dage. 40En dit is de wil Desgenen, Die Mij gezonden heeft, dat een iegelijk, die den Zoon aanschouwt, en in Hem gelooft, het eeuwige leven hebbe; en Ik zal hem opwekken ten uitersten dage. 41De Joden dan murmureerden over Hem, omdat Hij gezegd had: Ik ben het Brood, Dat uit den hemel nedergedaald is. 42En zij zeiden: Is deze niet Jezus, de Zoon van Jozef, Wiens vader en moeder wij kennen? Hoe zegt Deze dan: Ik ben uit den hemel nedergedaald? 43Jezus antwoordde dan, en zeide tot hen: Murmureert niet onder elkander. 44Niemand kan tot Mij komen, tenzij dat de Vader, Die Mij gezonden heeft, hem trekke; en Ik zal hem opwekken ten uitersten dage. 45Er is geschreven in de profeten: En zij zullen allen van God geleerd zijn. Een iegelijk dan, die het van den Vader gehoord en geleerd heeft, die komt tot Mij. 46Niet dat iemand den Vader gezien heeft, dan Die van God is; Deze heeft den Vader gezien. 47Voorwaar, voorwaar zeg Ik u: Die in Mij gelooft, heeft het eeuwige leven. 48Ik ben het Brood des levens. 49Uw vaders hebben het Manna gegeten in de woestijn, en zij zijn gestorven. 50Dit is het Brood, dat uit den hemel nederdaalt, opdat de mens daarvan ete, en niet sterve. 51Ik ben dat levende Brood, dat uit den hemel nedergedaald is; zo iemand van dit Brood eet, die zal in der eeuwigheid leven. En het Brood, dat Ik geven zal, is Mijn vlees, hetwelk Ik geven zal voor het leven der wereld. 52De Joden dan streden onder elkander, zeggende: Hoe kan ons deze Zijn vlees te eten geven? 53Jezus dan zeide tot hen: Voorwaar, voorwaar zeg Ik ulieden: Tenzij dat gij het vlees des Zoons des mensen eet, en Zijn bloed drinkt, zo hebt gij geen leven in uzelven. 54Die Mijn vlees eet, en Mijn bloed drinkt, die heeft het eeuwige leven; en Ik zal hem opwekken ten uitersten dage. 55Want Mijn vlees is waarlijk Spijs, en Mijn bloed is waarlijk Drank. 56Die Mijn vlees eet, en Mijn bloed drinkt, die blijft in Mij, en Ik in hem. 57Gelijkerwijs Mij de levende Vader gezonden heeft, en Ik leve door den Vader; alzo die Mij eet, dezelve zal leven door Mij. 58Dit is het Brood, dat uit den hemel nedergedaald is; niet gelijk uw vaders het Manna gegeten hebben, en zijn gestorven. Die dit Brood eet, zal in der eeuwigheid leven. 59Deze dingen zeide Hij in de synagoge, lerende te Kapernaum. 60Velen dan van Zijn discipelen, dit horende, zeiden: Deze rede is hard; wie kan dezelve horen? 61Jezus nu, wetende bij Zichzelven, dat Zijn discipelen daarover murmureerden, zeide tot hen: Ergert ulieden dit? 62Wat zou het dan zijn, zo gij de Zoon des mensen zaagt opvaren, daar Hij te voren was? 63De Geest is het, Die levend maakt; het vlees is niet nut. De woorden, die Ik tot u spreek, zijn geest en zijn leven. 64Maar er zijn sommigen van ulieden, die niet geloven. Want Jezus wist van den beginne, wie zij waren, die niet geloofden, en wie hij was, die Hem verraden zou. 65En Hij zeide: Daarom heb Ik u gezegd, dat niemand tot Mij komen kan, tenzij dat het hem gegeven zij van Mijn Vader. 66Van toen af gingen velen Zijner discipelen terug, en wandelden niet meer met Hem. 67Jezus dan zeide tot de twaalven: Wilt gijlieden ook niet weggaan? 68Simon Petrus dan antwoordde Hem: Heere, tot Wien zullen wij heengaan? Gij hebt de woorden des eeuwigen levens. 69En wij hebben geloofd en bekend, dat Gij zijt de Christus, de Zoon des levenden Gods. 70Jezus antwoordde hun: Heb Ik niet u twaalf uitverkoren? En een uit u is een duivel. 71En Hij zeide dit van Judas, Simons zoon, Iskariot; want deze zou Hem verraden, zijnde een van de twaalven.
