1Phao-lô, vâng mạng Ðức Chúa Trời là Cứu Chúa chúng ta, và vâng mạng Ðức Chúa Jêsus Christ là sự trông cậy chúng ta, làm sứ đồ của Ðức Chúa Jêsus Christ, 2gởi cho Ti-mô-thê, là con thật của ta trong đức tin: nguyền xin con được ân điển, sự thương xót và sự bình an ban cho bởi Ðức Chúa Trời, Cha chúng ta, và bởi Ðức Chúa Jêsus Christ, Chúa chúng ta! 3Ta nay nhắc lại mạng lịnh mà ta đã truyền cho con, khi ta đi sang xứ Ma-xê-đoan, con phải ở lại Ê-phê-sô, để răn bảo những người kia đừng truyền dạy một đạo giáo khác, 4đừng nghe phù ngôn và gia phổ vô cùng, là những điều gây nên sự cãi lẫy, chớ chẳng bổ sự mở mang công việc của Ðức Chúa Trời, là công việc được trọn bởi đức tin. 5Mục đích của sự răn bảo, ấy là sự yêu thương, bởi lòng tinh sạch, lương tâm tốt và đức tin thật mà sanh ra. 6Có vài kẻ xây bỏ mục đích đó, đi tìm những lời vô ích; 7họ muốn làm thầy dạy luật, mà không hiểu điều mình nói hoặc điều mình tự quyết. 8Vả, chúng ta biết luật pháp vẫn tốt lành cho kẻ dùng ra cách chánh đáng, 9và biết rõ ràng luật pháp không phải lập ra cho người công bình, bèn là vì những kẻ trái luật pháp, bạn nghịch, vì những kẻ không tôn kính, phạm tội, những kẻ vô đạo, nói phạm thánh thần, những kẻ giết cha mẹ, giết người, 10vì những kẻ tà dâm, kẻ đắm nam sắc, ăn cướp người, nói dối, thề dối, và vì hết thảy sự trái nghịch với đạo lành. 11Ấy đó là điều đạo Tin Lành vinh hiển của Ðức Chúa Trời hạnh phước dạy dỗ, mà sự truyền đạo đó đã giao phó cho ta. 12Ta cảm tạ Ðấng ban thêm sức cho ta, là Ðức Chúa Jêsus Christ, Chúa chúng ta, về sự Ngài đã xét ta là trung thành, lập ta làm kẻ giúp việc; 13ta ngày trước vốn là người phạm thượng, hay bắt bớ, hung bạo, nhưng ta đã đội ơn thương xót, vì ta đã làm những sự đó đương lúc ta ngu muội chưa tin. 14Aân điển của Chúa chúng ta đã dư dật trong ta, với đức tin cùng sự thương yêu trong Ðức Chúa Jêsus Christ. 15Ðức Chúa Jêsus Christ đã đến trong thế gian để cứu vớt kẻ có tội, ấy là lời chắc chắn, đáng đem lòng tin trọn vẹn mà nhận lấy; trong những kẻ có tội đó ta là đầu. 16Nhưng ta đã đội ơn thương xót, hầu cho Ðức Chúa Jêsus Christ tỏ mọi sự nhịn nhục của Ngài ra trong ta là kẻ làm đầu, để dùng ta làm gương cho những kẻ sẽ tin Ngài được sự sống đời đời. 17Nguyền xin sự tôn quí, vinh hiển đời đời vô cùng về nơi Vua muôn đời, không hề hư nát, không thấy được, tức là Ðức Chúa Trời có một mà thôi! A-men. 18Hỡi Ti-mô-thê, con ta, sự răn bảo mà ta truyền cho con, theo các lời tiên tri đã chỉ về con, tức là, phải nhờ những lời đó mà đánh trận tốt lành, 19cầm giữ đức tin và lương tâm tốt. Mấy kẻ đã chối bỏ lương tâm đó, thì đức tin họ bị chìm đắm: 20trong số ấy có Hy-mê-nê và A-léc-xan-đơ, ta đã phó cho quỉ Sa-tan rồi, hầu cho họ học biết đừng phạm thượng nữa.
1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus according to the commandment of God our Savior, and Christ Jesus our hope; 2to Timothy, my true child in faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 3As I urged you when I was going into Macedonia, stay at Ephesus that you might command certain men not to teach a different doctrine, 4neither to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which cause disputes, rather than God’s stewardship, which is in faith— 5but the goal of this command is love, out of a pure heart and a good conscience and sincere faith; 6from which things some, having missed the mark, have turned aside to vain talking; 7desiring to be teachers of the law, though they understand neither what they say, nor about what they strongly affirm. 8But we know that the law is good, if a man uses it lawfully, 9as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for man slayers, 10for the sexually immoral, for homosexuals, for slave-traders, for liars, for perjurers, and for any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine; 11according to the Good News of the glory of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust. 12And I thank him who enabled me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he counted me faithful, appointing me to service; 13although I was before a blasphemer, a persecutor, and insolent. However, I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. 14The grace of our Lord abounded exceedingly with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 15The saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. 16However, for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first, Jesus Christ might display all his patience, for an example of those who were going to believe in him for eternal life. 17Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. 18This instruction I commit to you, my child Timothy, according to the prophecies which led the way to you, that by them you may wage the good warfare; 19holding faith and a good conscience; which some having thrust away made a shipwreck concerning the faith; 20of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I delivered to Satan, that they might be taught not to blaspheme.
