1Ða-vít đã già, cao tuổi, bèn lập Sa-lô-môn, con trai mình, làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên. 2Người nhóm các quan trưởng Y-sơ-ra-ên, cùng những thầy tế lễ, và người Lê-vi. 3Người ta lấy số người Lê-vi từ ba mươi tuổi trở lên, và số của họ, cứ đếm từng người, được ba vạn tám ngàn. 4Trong số các người ấy, có hai vạn bốn ngàn người được cắt cai quản công việc của đền Ðức Giê-hô-va; sáu ngàn người đều làm quan đốc lý và quan xét; 5còn bốn ngàn người đều làm kẻ canh cửa; và bốn ngàn người ngợi khen Ðức Giê-hô-va bằng nhạc khí của Ða-vít đã làm đặng ngợi khen. 6Ða-vít phân họ từng ban thứ theo ba con trai Lê-vi, là Ghẹt-sôn, Kê-hát, và Mê-ra-ri. 7Về con cháu Ghẹt-sôn có La-ê-đan và Si-mê -i. 8Con trai của La-ê-đan là Giê-hi-ên làm trưởng, Xê-tham, và Giô-ên, ba người. 9Con trai của Si-mê -i là Sê-lô-mít, Ha-xi-ên, và Ha-ran, ba người. Ðó là các trưởng của tông tộc La-ê-đan. 10Con trai của Si-mê -i là Gia-hát, Xi-na, Giê-úc, và Bê-ri-a. Ấy là bốn con trai của Si-mê -i. 11Gia-hát làm trưởng, còn Xi-xa là con thứ; nhưng Giê-úc và Bê-ri-a không có con cháu nhiều; nên khi lấy số thì kể chúng như một nhà. 12Con trai Kê-hát là Am-ram, Dít-sê-ha, Hếp-rôn, U-xi-ên, bốn người. 13Con trai của Am-ram là A-rôn và Môi-se; A-rôn và con cháu người được phân biệt ra, để biệt riêng ra các vật chí thánh, và đời đời xông hương, hầu việc trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, cùng nhân danh Ngài mà chúc phước cho. 14Còn về Môi-se, người của Ðức Chúa Trời, các con trai người đều được kể vào chi phái Lê-vi. 15Con trai của Môi-se là Ghẹt-sôn và Ê-li-ê-xe. 16Con trai của Ghẹt-sôn là Sê-bu-ên làm trưởng. 17Con trai của Ê-li-ê-xe là Rê-ha-bia làm trưởng; Ê-li-ê-xe không có con trai nào khác; nhưng con trai của Rê-ha-bia nhiều lắm. 18Con trai của Dít-sê-ha là Sê-lô-mít làm trưởng. 19Con trai của Hếp-rôn là Giê-ri-gia làm trưởng; A-ma-ria thứ nhì; Gia-ha-xi-ên thứ ba; và Giê-ca-mê-am thứ tư. 20Con trai của U-xi-ên là Mi-ca làm trưởng; và Di-si-gia con thứ. 21Con trai của Mê-ra-ri là Mác-li và Mu-si. Con trai của Mác-li là Ê-lê-a-sa và Kích. 22Ê-lê-a-sa chết, không có con trai, chỉ có con gái mà thôi; các con trai của Kích là anh em chúng nó, bèn cưới chúng nó làm vợ. 23Con trai của Mu-si là Mác-li, Ê-đe và Giê-rê-mốt, ba người. 24Ðó là con cháu của Lê-vi theo tông tộc của họ, tức là trưởng tộc của những người được cai số từng danh từng người, từ hai mươi tuổi sắp lên, và hầu việc trong đền của Ðức Giê-hô-va. 25Vì Ða-vít nói rằng: Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên có ban sự bình an cho dân sự Ngài, và Ngài ngự tại Giê-ru-sa-lem đời đời; 26người Lê-vi cũng sẽ chẳng còn cần khiêng vác đền tạm hay là các khí dụng về công việc đền tạm nữa. 27Vì theo lời trối của Ða-vít, người ta tu bộ dân Lê-vi, từ hai mươi tuổi sấp lên. 28Chức của chúng là ở bên con cháu A-rôn, đặng làm công việc của đền Ðức Giê-hô-va, canh giữ hành lang và các phòng, giữ tinh sạch các vật thánh, và coi làm công việc của đền Ðức Chúa Trời: 29lại lo về bánh trần thiết, về bột mịn dùng làm của lễ chay, về bánh tráng không men, về đồ nướng trên vỉ, về đồ trộn với dầu, và về các đồ để lường và để đo; 30mỗi buổi sớm và buổi chiều, họ phải đứng tại đó cảm tạ và ngợi khen Ðức Giê-hô-va; 31còn mỗi ngày sa-bát, ngày mồng một, và ngày lễ trọng thể, thì phải giúp dâng luôn luôn tại trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va những của lễ thiêu thường dâng cho Ðức Giê-hô-va theo lệ đã định trong luật về của lễ ấy; 32chúng cũng lo coi sóc hội mạc và nơi thánh, cùng giúp đỡ con cháu A-rôn, là anh em mình, đặng hầu việc trong đền của Ðức Giê-hô-va.
1Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel. 2He gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites. 3The Levites were numbered from thirty years old and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty-eight thousand. 4David said, “Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of Yahweh’s house; six thousand were officers and judges; 5four thousand were doorkeepers; and four thousand praised Yahweh with the instruments which I made, for giving praise.” 6David divided them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. 7Of the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei. 8The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, and Zetham, and Joel, three. 9The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers’ households of Ladan. 10The sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei. 11Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah didn’t have many sons; therefore they became a fathers’ house in one reckoning. 12The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four. 13The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons, forever, to burn incense before Yahweh, to minister to him, and to bless in his name, forever. 14But as for Moses the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi. 15The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer. 16The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the chief. 17The sons of Eliezer were: Rehabiah the chief; and Eliezer had no other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many. 18The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the chief. 19The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth. 20The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief, and Isshiah the second. 21The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish. 22Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters only: and their brothers the sons of Kish took them as wives. 23The sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three. 24These were the sons of Levi after their fathers’ houses, even the heads of the fathers’ houses of those who were counted individually, in the number of names by their polls, who did the work for the service of Yahweh’s house, from twenty years old and upward. 25For David said, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people; and he dwells in Jerusalem forever. 26Also the Levites will no longer need to carry the tabernacle and all its vessels for its service.” 27For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were numbered, from twenty years old and upward. 28For their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of Yahweh’s house, in the courts, and in the rooms, and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of God’s house; 29for the show bread also, and for the fine flour for a meal offering, whether of unleavened wafers, or of that which is baked in the pan, or of that which is soaked, and for all kinds of measure and size; 30and to stand every morning to thank and praise Yahweh, and likewise in the evening; 31and to offer all burnt offerings to Yahweh, on the Sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the set feasts, in number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually before Yahweh; 32and that they should keep the duty of the Tent of Meeting, and the duty of the holy place, and the duty of the sons of Aaron their brothers, for the service of Yahweh’s house.

Aaron nu werd afgezonderd, dat hij heiligde de allerheiligste dingen, hij en zijn zonen, tot in eeuwigheid, om te roken voor het aangezicht des HEEREN, om Hem te dienen en om in Zijn Naam tot in eeuwigheid te zegenen. 14Aangaande nu Mozes, den man Gods, zijn kinderen werden genoemd onder den stam van Levi. 15De kinderen van Mozes waren Gersom en Eliezer. 16Van de kinderen van Gersom was Sebuel het hoofd. 17De kinderen van Eliezer nu waren dezen: Rehabja het hoofd; en Eliezer had geen andere kinderen, maar de kinderen van Rehabja vermeerderden ten hoogste. 18Van de kinderen van Jizhar was Selomith het hoofd. 19Aangaande de kinderen van Hebron: Jeria was het hoofd, Amarja de tweede, Jahaziel de derde, en Jekameam de vierde. 20Aangaande de kinderen van Uzziel: Micha was het hoofd, en Jissia de tweede. 21De kinderen van Merari waren Maheli en Musi; de kinderen van Maheli waren Eleazar en Kis. 22En Eleazar stierf, en hij had geen zonen, maar dochters; en de kinderen van Kis, haar broeders, namen ze. 23De kinderen van Musi waren Maheli, en Eder, en Jeremoth; drie. 24Dit zijn de kinderen van Levi, naar het huis hunner vaderen, de hoofden der vaderen, naar hun gerekenden in het getal der namen naar hun hoofden, doende het werk van den dienst van het huis des HEEREN van twintig jaren oud en daarboven. 25Want David had gezegd: De HEERE, de God Israels, heeft Zijn volk rust gegeven, en Hij zal te Jeruzalem wonen tot in eeuwigheid. 26En ook aangaande de Levieten, dat zij den tabernakel, noch enig van deszelfs gereedschap, tot deszelfs dienst behorende, niet meer zouden dragen. 27Want naar de laatste woorden van David werden de kinderen van Levi geteld, van twintig jaren oud en daarboven; 28Omdat hun standplaats was aan de hand der zonen van Aaron in den dienst van het huis des HEEREN, over de voorhoven, en over de kameren, en over de reiniging van alle heilige dingen, en het werk van den dienst van het huis Gods; 29Te weten tot het brood der toerichting, en tot de meelbloem ten spijsoffer, en tot ongezuurde vladen, en tot de pannen, en tot het gerooste, en tot alle mate en afmeting; 30En om alle morgens te staan, om den HEERE te loven en te prijzen; en desgelijks des avonds; 31En tot al het offeren der brandofferen des HEEREN, op de sabbatten, op de nieuwe maanden, en op de gezette hoogtijden in getal, naar de wijze onder hen, geduriglijk, voor het aangezicht des HEEREN; 32En dat zij de wacht van de tent der samenkomst zouden waarnemen, en de wacht des heiligdoms, en de wacht der zonen van Aaron, hun broederen, in den dienst van het huis des HEEREN.
