1Bấy giờ, Sa-lô-môn vời đến mình, ở tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, các trưởng lão Y-sơ-ra-ên, hết thảy các quan trưởng của chi phái, và những trưởng tộc của Y-sơ-ra-ên, đặng rước hòm giao ước của Ðức Giê-hô-va từ thành của Ða-vít, tức là Si-ôn. 2Trong lúc lễ, nhằm tháng Ê-tha-ninh, là tháng bảy, hết thảy người nam của Y-sơ-ra-ên đều nhóm lại cùng vua Sa-lô-môn. 3Khi các trưởng lão Y-sơ-ra-ên đã đến, thì những thầy tế lễ lấy hòm của Ðức Giê-hô-va, 4dời đi luôn với Ðền tạm. Những thầy tế lễ và người Lê-vi khiêng các đồ đó lên. 5Vua Sa-lô-môn và cả hội chúng Y-sơ-ra-ên đã hiệp với người, và đứng trước hòm, giết bò và chiên làm của lễ rất nhiều, không thế đếm được. 6Những thầy tế lễ đem hòm giao ước của Ðức Giê-hô-va đến nơi nó, trong nơi chí thánh, dưới cánh chê-ru-bin. 7Vì các chê-ru-bin giương cánh ra trên nơi để hòm, che thân trên hòm và các đòn khiêng. 8Các đòn khiêng dài, đến nỗi người ta, từ nơi thánh ở trước nơi chí thánh, có thể thấy được, nhưng ở ngoài thì chẳng thấy. Các đòn ấy ở đó cho đến ngày nay. 9Trong hòm chỉ có hai bảng đá mà Môi-se đã để, tại núi Hô-rếp, khi Ðức Giê-hô-va lập giao ước với dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, lúc họ ra khỏi xứ Ê-díp-tô. 10Xảy ra khi những thầy tế lễ đã ra khỏi nơi thành, bèn có mây đầy dẫy nhà của Ðức Giê-hô-va, 11đến nỗi những thầy tế lễ vì có mây ấy không thể đứng đó mà hầu việc được, vì sự vinh quang của Ðức Giê-hô-va đầy dẫy đền của Ðức Giê-hô-va. 12Bấy giờ, Sa-lô-môn nguyện rằng: Ðức Giê-hô-va có phán rằng Ngài ngự trong nơi tối tăm mờ mịt. 13Hỡi Ðức Chúa Trời! tôi đã cất xong một cái đền dùng làm nơi ngự của Ngài, tức một nơi Ngài ở đời đời. 14Ðoạn, vua xây lại, và chúc phước cho hội chúng Y-sơ-ra-ên. Cả hội chúng Y-sơ-ra-ên đều đứng. 15Người nói rằng: Ðáng ngợi khen Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, vì từ miệng Ngài có phán hứa với Ða-vít, cha ta, và bởi tay Ngài đã làm ứng nghiệm lời ấy; Ngài phán rằng: 16Từ ngày ta đã đem Y-sơ-ra-ên ta ra khỏi Ê-díp-tô, ta không chọn thành nào trong các chi phái Y-sơ-ra-ên đặng cất tại đó một cái nhà cho danh ta ngự; nhưng ta đã chọn Ða-vít để người trị vì dân Y-sơ-ra-ên ta. 17Vả, Ða-vít, cha ta, có ý cất một cái đền cho danh Giê-hô-va, là Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên. 18Nhưng Ðức Giê-hô-va có phán với Ða-vít, cha ta, rằng: Khi ngươi có ý xây đền cho danh ta, thì lấy làm thậm phải; 19song ngươi sẽ chẳng cất đền ấy đâu, bèn là con trai ngươi, do lòng ngươi sanh ra, sẽ cất đền cho danh ta. 20Vậy, Ðức Giê-hô-va đã làm ứng nghiệm lời Ngài phán; vì ta kế vị Ða-vít, cha ta, ngồi trên ngôi Y-sơ-ra-ên, y như Ðức Giê-hô-va đã hứa, và ta đã cất đền này cho danh Giê-hô-va, là Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên. 21Tại đó, ta đã dọn một chỗ để hòm; trong hòm có sự giao ước mà Ngài đã lập với tổ phụ chúng ta, khi Ngài đem họ ra khỏi xứ Ê-díp-tô. 22Kế đó, Sa-lô-môn đứng trước bàn thờ của Ðức Giê-hô-va, đối mặt cả hội chúng Y-sơ-ra-ên, bèn giơ tay lên trời, mà rằng: 23Lạy Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên! hoặc trên trời cao kia, hoặc dưới đất thấp này, chẳng có một thần nào giống như Chúa. Chúa giữ sự giao ước và lòng nhơn từ với kẻ tôi tớ Chúa, là kẻ nào hết lòng đi ở trước mặt Chúa. 24Ðối cùng tôi tớ Chúa, là Ða-vít, cha tôi, Chúa có giữ lời Ngài đã hứa với người. Thật, hễ điều chi miệng Chúa phán, thì tay Chúa đã làm hoàn thành, y như chúng tôi thấy ngày nay. 25Vậy, hỡi Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên! ngày nay xin làm trọn lời Chúa đã hứa cùng tôi tớ Chúa, là Ða-vít, cha tôi, rằng: Nếu con cháu ngươi cẩn thận các đường lối mình, đi ở trước mặt ta, y như ngươi đã đi, thì trước mặt ta sẽ chẳng hề thiếu một kẻ hậu tự ngươi đặng ngồi trên ngôi nước Y-sơ-ra-ên đâu. 26Hỡi Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên! xin hãy làm cho ứng nghiệm lời Chúa đã hứa cùng kẻ tôi tớ Chúa, là Ða-vít, cha tôi. 27Nhưng quả thật rằng Ðức Chúa Trời ngự trên đất này chăng? Kìa, trời, dầu đến đỗi trời của các từng trời chẳng có thể chứa Ngài được thay, phương chi cái đền này tôi đã cất! 28Dầu vậy, hỡi Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời tôi! xin hãy đoái đến lời cầu nguyện và sự nài xin của kẻ tôi tớ Chúa. đặng nghe tiếng kêu cầu và khẩn nguyện mà kẻ tôi tớ Chúa cầu trước mặt Chúa ngày nay. 29Nguyện mắt của Chúa ngày và đêm đoái xem nhà nầy, là chỗ mà Chúa đã phán rằng: Danh ta sẽ ngự tại đó, đặng nghe lời cầu nguyện của tôi tớ Chúa hướng nơi này mà cầu. 30Phàm điều gì tôi tớ Chúa và dân Y-sơ-ra-ên của Chúa sẽ hướng về nơi này mà khẩn cầu, xin Chúa hãy dủ nghe; phải, ở nơi ngự của Chúa, tại trên các từng trời, xin Chúa dủ nghe, nhậm lời, và tha thứ cho. 31Khi ai phạm tội cùng kẻ lân cận mình, và người ta bắt đi đó phải thề, nếu người đến thề trước bàn thờ của Chúa, tại trong đền này, 32thì xin Chúa ở trên trời hãy nghe, đối đãi và xét đoán tôi tớ Chúa, mà lên án cho kẻ dữ, khiến đường lối nó đổ lại trên đầu nó, và xưng công bình cho người công bình, và thưởng ngươi tùy theo sự công bình của người. 33Khi dân Y-sơ-ra-ên của Chúa, vì cớ phạm tội với Chúa, bị kẻ tù nghịch đánh được; nếu chúng nó trở lại với Chúa, nhận biết danh Ngài và cầu nguyện nài xin với Chúa trong đền này, 34thì xin Chúa ở trên trời hãy dủ nghe, tha tội cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên của Chúa, và khiến họ trở về đất mà Chúa đã ban cho tổ phụ họ. 35Nếu các từng trời bị đóng chặt, không có mưa, bởi vì chúng nó đã phạm tội với Chúa, nếu chúng nó hướng về nơi này mà cầu nguyện, nhận biết danh Chúa, xây bỏ tội lỗi mình, sau khi Chúa đã đoán phạt họ, 36thì xin Chúa ở trên trời hãy dủ nghe, tha tội cho các tôi tớ Chúa, và cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên của Ngài. Xin hãy chỉ cho họ con đường thiện mà họ phải đi, và giáng mưa trên đất của Chúa đã ban cho dân Ngài làm sản nghiệp. 37Khi trong xứ xảy có đói kém, ôn dịch, hạn hán, ten sét, cào cào, châu chấu, hoặc có quân thù nghịch vây các thành của địa phận họ, hay là có tai vạ chi, tật bịnh gì; 38nếu có một người hoặc cả dân Y-sơ-ra-ên của Chúa, ai nấy đã nhận biết tai họa của lòng mình, mà giơ tay ra hướng về đền này, và cầu nguyện, khẩn xin vô luận điều gì, 39thì xin Chúa ở trên trời, là nơi Chúa ngự, dủ nghe, và tha thứ cho, đối đãi, báo ứng mỗi người tùy theo công việc họ, vì Chúa thông biết lòng của họ (thật chỉ một mình Chúa biết lòng của con cái loài người), 40để khiến họ kính sợ Chúa trọn đời họ sống ở trên đất mà Chúa đã ban cho tổ phụ chúng tôi. 41Vả lại, về khách lạ, là người chẳng thuộc về dân Y-sơ-ra-ên của Chúa, nhưng vì danh Ngài từ xứ xa đến 42(vì người ngoại bang sẽ nghe nói về danh lớn của Chúa, về cánh tay quyền năng giơ thẳng ra của Chúa), khi người đến cầu nguyện trong nhà này, 43xin Chúa ở trên trời, là nơi Chúa ngự, dủ nghe và làm theo mọi điều người khách lạ sẽ cầu xin Chúa để cho muôn dân của thế gian nhận biết danh Chúa, kính sợ Chúa, y như dân Y-sơ-ra-ên của Ngài, và cho biết rằng danh Chúa xưng ra trên đền này mà tôi đã xây cất. 44Khi dân của Chúa đi chiến trận cùng quân thù nghịch mình, theo con đường Chúa đã sai đi, nếu họ cầu khẩn Ðức Giê-hô-va xây mặt hướng về thành Chúa đã chọn, và về đền tôi đã cất cho danh Ngài, 45thì xin Chúa ở trên trời, hãy dủ nghe các lời cầu nguyện nài xin của chúng, và binh vực quyền lợi cho họ. 46Khi chúng nó phạm tội cùng Chúa (vì không có người nào chẳng phạm tội) và Chúa nổi giận, phó chúng nó cho kẻ thù nghịch; khi họ bị bắt làm phu tù đến xứ của kẻ thù nghịch, hoặc xa hoặc gần, 47ví bằng trong xứ mà họ bị tù, họ nghĩ lại, ăn năn, và nài xin Chúa mà rằng: "Chúng tôi có phạm tội, làm điều gian ác, và cư xử cách dữ tợn;" 48nhược bằng tại trong xứ mà thù nghịch đã dẫn họ đến làm phu tù, họ hết lòng hết ý trở lại cùng Chúa, cầu nguyện cùng Ngài, mặt hướng về xứ mà Chúa đã ban cho tổ phụ họ, về thành mà Chúa đã chọn, và về đền mà tôi đã xây cất cho danh Chúa, 49thì xin Chúa ở trên trời, tức nơi Chúa ngự, hãy dủ nghe lời cầu nguyện nài xin của họ, và binh vực quyền nài xin của họ, và binh vực quyền lợi cho họ; 50tha cho dân Chúa tội lỗi và các sự trái mạng mà họ đã phạm cùng Ngài; xin Chúa khiến những kẻ bắt họ làm phu tù có lòng thương xót họ, 51vì dân Y-sơ-ra-ên vốn là dân sự Chúa, cơ nghiệp của Chúa, mà Chúa đã đem ra khỏi Ê-díp-tô, tức khỏi giữa lò sắt. 52Nguyện Chúa đoái xem kẻ tôi tớ Chúa và dân Y-sơ-ra-ên của Ngài, dủ nghe lời cầu nguyện nài xin của họ, mỗi lần họ kêu cầu cùng Chúa. 53Hỡi Chúa Giê-hô-va ôi! Chúa đã phân cách họ khỏi các dân tộc trên đất, để họ làm cơ nghiệp Chúa, y như Chúa đã phán bởi miệng Môi-se, là tôi tớ Chúa, khi Chúa đem tổ phụ chúng tôi ra khỏi Ê-díp-tô. 54Khi Sa-lô-môn đã cầu với Ðức Giê-hô-va những lời khẩn nguyện nài xin này xong, bèn đứng dậy trước bàn thờ Ðức Giê-hô-va, khỏi nơi người đã quì, tay giơ lên trời. 55Người đứng chúc phước lớn tiếng cho cả hội chúng Y-sơ-ra-ên, mà rằng: 56Ðáng khen ngợi Ðức Giê-hô-va, là Ðấng đã ban sự bình yên cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên của Ngài, tùy theo các lời Ngài đã hứa! Về các lời tốt lành mà Ngài đã cậy miệng Môi-se, kẻ tôi tớ Ngài, phán ra, chẳng có một lời nào không ứng nghiệm. 57Nguyện Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời chúng tôi ở với chúng tôi, như Ngài đã ở cùng tổ phụ chúng tôi, chớ lìa, chớ bỏ chúng tôi; 58nguyện Ngài giục lòng chúng tôi hướng về Ngài, hầu chúng tôi đi trong mọi đường lối Ngài, giữ những điều răn, luật pháp, và mạng lịnh của Ngài đã truyền cho tổ phụ chúng tôi. 59Ước gì Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời chúng ta ngày đêm dủ lòng nhớ đến các lời ta đã nài xin trước mặt Ngài, hầu cho tùy việc cần ngày nào theo ngày nấy, Ðức Giê-hô-va binh vực quyền lợi của tôi tớ Ngài và của dân Y-sơ-ra-ên; 60hầu cho muôn dân của thế gian biết rằng Giê-hô-va là Ðức Chúa Trời, chớ chẳng có ai khác. 61Vậy, các ngươi khá lấy lòng trọn lành đối với Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời chúng ta, để đi theo luật lệ Ngài và giữ gìn điều răn của Ngài, y như các ngươi đã làm ngày nay. 62Vua và cả Y-sơ-ra-ên đều dâng các của lễ tại trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va. 63Sa-lô-môn dâng của lễ thù ân cho Ðức Giê-hô-va, hai muôn hai ngàn con bò đực và mười hai muôn con chiên. Vua và cả dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đều dự lễ khánh thành đền của Ðức Giê-hô-va là như vậy. 64Trong ngày đó, vua biệt riêng ra nơi chính giữa của hành lang ở trước đền thờ của Ðức Giê-hô-va, vì tại đó người dâng các của lễ thiêu, của lễ chay, và mỡ về của lễ thù ân; bởi vì bàn thờ bằng đồng để trước đền của Ðức Giê-hô-va là nhỏ quá, đựng các của lễ thù ân không đặng. 65Trong lúc đó, Sa-lô-môn và cả dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, một hội chúng rất lớn, ở từ miền Ha-mát cho đến khe Ê-díp-tô, hiệp tại trước mặt Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời chúng ta, mà giữ lễ trong bảy ngày, lại bảy ngày khác nữa, cộng mười bốn ngày. 66Ngày thứ tám, vua cho dân sự về; dân chúc phước cho vua, đi trở về trại mình, lấy làm mừng rỡ vui lòng về mọi sự tốt lành mà Ðức Giê-hô-va đã làm cho Ða-vít, kẻ tôi tớ Ngài, và cho Y-sơ-ra-ên, dân sự của Ngài.
1Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the princes of the fathers’ households of the children of Israel, to king Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of Yahweh out of the city of David, which is Zion. 2All the men of Israel assembled themselves to king Solomon at the feast, in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month. 3All the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark. 4They brought up Yahweh’s ark, and the Tent of Meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the Tent; even these the priests and the Levites brought up. 5King Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, who were assembled to him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and cattle, that could not be counted nor numbered for multitude. 6The priests brought in the ark of the covenant of Yahweh to its place, into the oracle of the house, to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubim. 7For the cherubim spread their wings out over the place of the ark, and the cherubim covered the ark and its poles above. 8The poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from the holy place before the oracle; but they were not seen outside: and there they are to this day. 9There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets which Moses put there at Horeb, when Yahweh made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt. 10It came to pass, when the priests had come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled Yahweh’s house, 11so that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud; for Yahweh’s glory filled Yahweh’s house. 12Then Solomon said, “Yahweh has said that he would dwell in the thick darkness. 13I have surely built you a house of habitation, a place for you to dwell in forever.” 14The king turned his face about, and blessed all the assembly of Israel: and all the assembly of Israel stood. 15He said, “Blessed is Yahweh, the God of Israel, who spoke with his mouth to David your father, and has with his hand fulfilled it, saying, 16‘Since the day that I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house, that my name might be there; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.’ 17“Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel. 18But Yahweh said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart. 19Nevertheless, you shall not build the house; but your son who shall come out of your body, he shall build the house for my name.’ 20Yahweh has established his word that he spoke; for I have risen up in the place of David my father, and I sit on the throne of Israel, as Yahweh promised, and have built the house for the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel. 21There I have set a place for the ark, in which is the covenant of Yahweh, which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.” 22Solomon stood before the altar of Yahweh in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven; 23and he said, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven above, or on earth beneath; who keep covenant and loving kindness with your servants, who walk before you with all their heart; 24who have kept with your servant David my father that which you promised him. Yes, you spoke with your mouth, and have fulfilled it with your hand, as it is this day. 25Now therefore, may Yahweh, the God of Israel, keep with your servant David my father that which you have promised him, saying, ‘There shall not fail you a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel, if only your children take heed to their way, to walk before me as you have walked before me.’ 26“Now therefore, God of Israel, please let your word be verified, which you spoke to your servant David my father. 27But will God in very deed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens can’t contain you; how much less this house that I have built! 28Yet have respect for the prayer of your servant, and for his supplication, Yahweh my God, to listen to the cry and to the prayer which your servant prays before you this day; 29that your eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which you have said, ‘My name shall be there;’ to listen to the prayer which your servant shall pray toward this place. 30Listen to the supplication of your servant, and of your people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place. Yes, hear in heaven, your dwelling place; and when you hear, forgive. 31“If a man sins against his neighbor, and an oath is laid on him to cause him to swear, and he comes and swear before your altar in this house; 32then hear in heaven, and do, and judge your servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way on his own head, and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness. 33“When your people Israel are struck down before the enemy, because they have sinned against you; if they turn again to you, and confess your name, and pray and make supplication to you in this house: 34then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of your people Israel, and bring them again to the land which you gave to their fathers. 35“When the sky is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against you; if they pray toward this place, and confess your name, and turn from their sin, when you afflict them: 36then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of your servants, and of your people Israel, when you teach them the good way in which they should walk; and send rain on your land, which you have given to your people for an inheritance. 37“If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence, if there is blight, mildew, locust or caterpillar; if their enemy besieges them in the land of their cities; whatever plague, whatever sickness there is; 38whatever prayer and supplication is made by any man, or by all your people Israel, who shall each know the plague of his own heart, and spread out his hands toward this house: 39then hear in heaven, your dwelling place, and forgive, and do, and render to every man according to all his ways, whose heart you know; (for you, even you only, know the hearts of all the children of men;) 40that they may fear you all the days that they live in the land which you gave to our fathers. 41“Moreover concerning the foreigner, who is not of your people Israel, when he shall come out of a far country for your name’s sake 42(for they shall hear of your great name, and of your mighty hand, and of your outstretched arm); when he shall come and pray toward this house; 43hear in heaven, your dwelling place, and do according to all that the foreigner calls to you for; that all the peoples of the earth may know your name, to fear you, as do your people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by your name. 44“If your people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatever way you shall send them, and they pray to Yahweh toward the city which you have chosen, and toward the house which I have built for your name; 45then hear in heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause. 46If they sin against you (for there is no man who doesn’t sin), and you are angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captive to the land of the enemy, far off or near; 47yet if they shall repent in the land where they are carried captive, and turn again, and make supplication to you in the land of those who carried them captive, saying, ‘We have sinned, and have done perversely; we have dealt wickedly;’ 48if they return to you with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies, who carried them captive, and pray to you toward their land, which you gave to their fathers, the city which you have chosen, and the house which I have built for your name: 49then hear their prayer and their supplication in heaven, your dwelling place, and maintain their cause; 50and forgive your people who have sinned against you, and all their transgressions in which they have transgressed against you; and give them compassion before those who carried them captive, that they may have compassion on them 51(for they are your people, and your inheritance, which you brought out of Egypt, from the midst of the furnace of iron); 52that your eyes may be open to the supplication of your servant, and to the supplication of your people Israel, to listen to them whenever they cry to you. 53For you separated them from among all the peoples of the earth, to be your inheritance, as you spoke by Moses your servant, when you brought our fathers out of Egypt, Lord Yahweh.” 54It was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication to Yahweh, he arose from before the altar of Yahweh, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread out toward heaven. 55He stood, and blessed all the assembly of Israel with a loud voice, saying, 56“Blessed be Yahweh, who has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised. There has not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by Moses his servant. 57May Yahweh our God be with us, as he was with our fathers. Let him not leave us, nor forsake us; 58that he may incline our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his ordinances, which he commanded our fathers. 59Let these my words, with which I have made supplication before Yahweh, be near to Yahweh our God day and night, that he may maintain the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel, as every day shall require; 60that all the peoples of the earth may know that Yahweh, he is God. There is no one else. 61“Let your heart therefore be perfect with Yahweh our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.” 62The king, and all Israel with him, offered sacrifice before Yahweh. 63Solomon offered for the sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered to Yahweh, two and twenty thousand head of cattle, and one hundred twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated Yahweh’s house. 64The same day the king made the middle of the court holy that was before Yahweh’s house; for there he offered the burnt offering, and the meal offering, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the bronze altar that was before Yahweh was too little to receive the burnt offering, and the meal offering, and the fat of the peace offerings. 65So Solomon held the feast at that time, and all Israel with him, a great assembly, from the entrance of Hamath to the brook of Egypt, before Yahweh our God, seven days and seven days, even fourteen days. 66On the eighth day he sent the people away; and they blessed the king, and went to their tents joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that Yahweh had shown to David his servant, and to Israel his people.
1Toen vergaderde Salomo de oudsten van Israel, en al de hoofden der stammen, de oversten der vaderen, onder de kinderen Israels, tot den koning Salomo te Jeruzalem, om de ark des verbonds des HEEREN op te brengen uit de stad Davids, dewelke is Sion. 2En alle mannen van Israel verzamelden zich tot den koning Salomo, in de maand Ethanim op het feest; die is de zevende maand. 3En al de oudsten van Israel kwamen; en de priesters namen de ark op. 4En zij brachten de ark des HEEREN en de tent der samenkomst opwaarts mitsgaders al de heilige vaten, die in de tent waren; en de priesters en de Levieten brachten dezelve opwaarts. 5De koning Salomo nu en de ganse vergadering van Israel, die bij hem vergaderd waren, waren met hem voor de ark, offerende schapen en runderen, die vanwege de menigte niet konden geteld, noch gerekend worden. 6Alzo brachten de priesteren de ark des verbonds des HEEREN tot haar plaats, tot de aanspraakplaats van het huis, tot het heilige der heiligen, tot onder de vleugelen der cherubim. 7Want de cherubim spreidden beide vleugelen over de plaats der ark; en de cherubim overdekten de ark en haar handbomen van boven. 8Daarna schoven zij de handbomen verder uit, dat de hoofden der handbomen gezien werden uit het heiligdom voor aan de aanspraakplaats, maar buiten niet gezien werden; en zij zijn aldaar tot op dezen dag. 9Er was niets in de ark, dan alleen de twee stenen tafelen, die Mozes bij Horeb daarin gelegd had, als de HEERE een verbond maakte met de kinderen Israels, toen zij uit Egypteland uitgetogen waren. 10En het geschiedde, als de priesters uit het heilige uitgingen, dat een wolk het huis des HEEREN vervulde. 11En de priesters konden niet staan om te dienen, vanwege de wolk; want de heerlijkheid des HEEREN had het huis des HEEREN vervuld. 12Toen zeide Salomo: De HEERE heeft gezegd, dat Hij in donkerheid zou wonen. 13Ik heb immers een huis gebouwd, U ter woonstede, een vaste plaats tot Uw eeuwige woning. 14Daarna wendde de koning zijn aangezicht om, en zegende de ganse gemeente van Israel; en de ganse gemeente van Israel stond. 15En hij zeide: Geloofd zij de HEERE, de God Israels, Die met Zijn mond tot mijn vader David gesproken heeft, en heeft het met Zijn hand vervuld, zeggende: 16Van dien dag af, dat Ik Mijn volk Israel uit Egypteland uitgevoerd heb, heb Ik geen stad verkoren uit alle stammen van Israel, om een huis te bouwen, dat Mijn Naam daar zou wezen; maar Ik heb David verkoren, dat hij over Mijn volk Israel wezen zou. 17Het was ook in het hart van mijn vader David, een huis den Naam van den HEERE, den God Israels, te bouwen. 18Maar de HEERE zeide tot David, mijn vader: Dewijl dat in uw hart geweest is Mijn Naam een huis te bouwen, gij hebt welgedaan, dat het in uw hart geweest is. 19Evenwel gij zult dat huis niet bouwen; maar uw zoon, die uit uw lendenen voortkomen zal, die zal Mijn Naam dat huis bouwen. 20Ze heeft de HEERE bevestigd Zijn woord, dat Hij gesproken had; want ik ben opgestaan in de plaats van mijn vader David, en ik zit op den troon van Israel, gelijk als de HEERE gesproken heeft; en ik heb een huis gebouwd den Naam des HEEREN, des Gods van Israel. 21En ik heb daar een plaats beschikt voor de ark, waarin het verbond des HEEREN is, hetwelk Hij met onze vaderen maakte, als Hij hen uit Egypteland uitvoerde. 22En Salomo stond voor het altaar des HEEREN, tegenover de ganse gemeente van Israel, en breidde zijn handen uit naar den hemel; 23En hij zeide: HEERE, God van Israel, er is geen God, gelijk Gij, boven in den hemel, noch beneden op de aarde, houdende het verbond en de weldadigheid aan Uw knechten, die voor Uw aangezicht met hun ganse hart wandelen; 24Die Uw knecht, mijn vader David, gehouden hebt, wat Gij tot hem gesproken hadt; want met Uw mond hebt Gij gesproken, en met Uw hand vervuld, gelijk het te dezen dage is. 25En nu HEERE, God van Israel, houd Uw knecht, mijn vader David, wat Gij tot hem gesproken hebt, zeggende: Geen man zal u van voor Mijn aangezicht afgesneden worden, die op den troon van Israel zitte; alleenlijk zo uw zonen hun weg bewaren, om te wandelen voor Mijn aangezicht, gelijk als gij gewandeld hebt voor Mijn aangezicht. 26Nu dan, o God van Israel, laat toch Uw woord waar worden, hetwelk Gij gesproken hebt tot Uw knecht, mijn vader David. 27Maar waarlijk, zou God op de aarde wonen? Zie, de hemelen, ja, de hemel der hemelen zouden U niet begrijpen, hoeveel te min dit huis, dat ik gebouwd heb! 28Wend U dan nog tot het gebed van Uw knecht, en tot zijn smeking, o HEERE, mijn God, om te horen naar het geroep en naar het gebed, dat Uw knecht heden voor Uw aangezicht bidt. 29Dat Uw ogen open zijn, nacht en dag, over dit huis, over deze plaats, van dewelke Gij gezegd hebt: Mijn Naam zal daar zijn; om te horen naar het gebed, hetwelk Uw knecht bidden zal in deze plaats. 30Hoor dan naar de smeking van Uw knecht, en van Uw volk Israel, die in deze plaats zullen bidden; en Gij, hoor in de plaats Uwer woning, in den hemel, ja, hoor, en vergeef. 31Wanneer iemand tegen zijn naaste zal gezondigd hebben, en hij hem een eed des vloeks opgelegd zal hebben, om zichzelven te vervloeken; en de eed des vloeks voor Uw altaar in dit huis komen zal; 32Hoor Gij dan in den hemel, en doe, en richt Uw knechten, veroordelende den ongerechtige, gevende zijn weg op zijn hoofd, en rechtvaardigende den gerechtige, gevende hem naar zijn gerechtigheid. 33Wanneer Uw volk Israel zal geslagen worden voor het aangezicht des vijands, omdat zij tegen U gezondigd zullen hebben, en zich tot U bekeren, en Uw Naam belijden, en tot U in dit huis bidden en smeken zullen; 34Hoor Gij dan in den hemel, en vergeef de zonde van Uw volk Israel, en breng hen weder in het land, dat Gij hun vaderen gegeven hebt. 35Als de hemel zal gesloten zijn, dat er geen regen is, omdat zij tegen U gezondigd zullen hebben; en zij in deze plaats bidden, en Uw Naam belijden, en van hun zonden zich bekeren zullen, als Gij hen geplaagd zult hebben; 36Hoor Gij dan in den hemel, en vergeef de zonde van Uw knechten en van Uw volk Israel, als Gij hun zult geleerd hebben den goeden weg in denwelken zij wandelen zullen; en geef regen op Uw land, dat Gij Uw volk tot een erfenis gegeven hebt. 37Als er honger in het land wezen zal, als er pest wezen zal, als er brandkoren, honigdauw, sprinkhanen, kevers wezen zullen, als zijn vijand in het land zijner poorten hem belegeren zal, of enige plage, of enige krankheid wezen zal; 38Alle gebed, alle smeking, die van enig mens, van al Uw volk Israel, geschieden zal; als zij erkennen, een ieder de plage zijns harten, en een ieder zijn handen in dit huis uitbreiden zal; 39Hoor Gij dan in den hemel, de vaste plaats Uwer woning, en vergeef, en doe, en geef een iegelijk naar al zijn wegen, gelijk Gij zijn hart kent; want Gij alleen kent het hart van alle kinderen der mensen; 40Opdat zij U vrezen al de dagen, die zij leven zullen in het land, dat Gij onzen vaderen gegeven hebt. 41Zelfs ook aangaande den vreemde, die van Uw volk Israel niet zal zijn, maar uit verren lande om Uws Naams wil komen zal; 42(Want zij zullen horen van Uw groten Naam, en van Uw sterke hand, en van Uw uitgestrekten arm) als hij komen en bidden zal in dit huis; 43Hoor Gij in den hemel, de vaste plaats Uwer woning, en doe naar alles, waarom die vreemde tot U roepen zal; opdat alle volken der aarde Uw Naam kennen, om U te vrezen, gelijk Uw volk Israel, en om te weten, dat Uw Naam genoemd wordt over dit huis, hetwelk ik gebouwd heb. 44Wanneer Uw volk in den krijg tegen zijn vijand uittrekken zal door den weg, dien Gij hen henen zenden zult, en zullen tot den HEERE bidden naar den weg dezer stad, die Gij verkoren hebt, en naar dit huis, hetwelk ik Uw Naam gebouwd heb; 45Hoor dan in den hemel hun gebed en hun smeking, en voer hun recht uit. 46Wanneer zij gezondigd zullen hebben tegen U (want geen mens is er, die niet zondigt), en Gij tegen hen vertoornd zult zijn, en hen leveren zult voor het aangezicht des vijands, dat degenen, die hen gevangen hebben, hen gevankelijk wegvoeren in des vijands land, dat verre of nabij is. 47En zij in het land, waar zij gevankelijk weggevoerd zijn, weder aan hun hart brengen zullen, dat zij zich bekeren, en tot U smeken in het land dergenen, die ze gevankelijk weggevoerd hebben, zeggende: Wij hebben gezondigd, en verkeerdelijk gedaan, wij hebben goddelooslijk gehandeld; 48En zij zich tot U bekeren, met hun ganse hart, en met hun ganse ziel, in het land hunner vijanden, die hen gevankelijk weggevoerd zullen hebben; en tot U bidden zullen naar den weg van hun land (hetwelk Gij hun vaderen gegeven hebt), naar deze stad, die Gij verkoren hebt, en naar dit huis, dat ik Uw Naam gebouwd heb; 49Hoor dan in den hemel, de vaste plaats Uwer woning, hun gebed en hun smeking en voer hun recht uit; 50En vergeef aan Uw volk, dat zij tegen U gezondigd zullen hebben, en al hun overtredingen, waarmede zij tegen U zullen overtreden hebben; en geef hun barmhartigheid voor het aangezicht dergenen, die ze gevangen houden, opdat zij zich hunner ontfermen; 51Want zij zijn Uw volk en Uw erfdeel, die Gij uitgevoerd hebt uit Egypteland, uit het midden des ijzeren ovens; 52Opdat Uw ogen open zijn tot de smeking van Uw knecht en tot de smeking van Uw volk Israel, om naar hen te horen, in al hun roepen tot U. 53Want Gij hebt hen U tot een erfdeel afgezonderd, uit alle volken der aarde; gelijk als Gij gesproken hebt door den dienst van Mozes, Uw knecht, als Gij onze vaderen uit Egypte uitvoerdet, Heere HEERE! 54Het geschiedde nu, als Salomo voleind had dit ganse gebed, en deze smeking tot den HEERE te bidden, dat hij van voor het altaar des HEEREN opstond, van het knielen op zijn knieen, met zijn handen uitgebreid naar den hemel; 55Zo stond hij, en zegende de ganse gemeente van Israel, zeggende met luider stem: 56Geloofd zij de HEERE, Die aan Zijn volk Israel rust gegeven heeft, naar alles, wat Hij gesproken heeft! Niet een enig woord is er gevallen van al Zijn goede woorden, die Hij gesproken heeft door den dienst van Mozes, Zijn knecht. 57De HEERE, onze God, zij met ons, gelijk als Hij geweest is met onze vaderen; Hij verlate ons niet, en begeve ons niet; 58Neigende tot Zich ons hart, om in al Zijn wegen te wandelen, en om te houden Zijn geboden, en Zijn inzettingen, en Zijn rechten, dewelke Hij onzen vaderen geboden heeft. 59En dat deze mijn woorden, waarmede ik voor den HEERE gesmeekt heb, mogen nabij zijn voor den HEERE, onzen God, dag en nacht; opdat Hij het recht van Zijn knecht uitvoere, en het recht van Zijn volk Israel, elkeen dagelijks op zijn dag. 60Opdat alle volken der aarde weten, dat de HEERE die God is, niemand meer; 61En ulieder hart volkomen zij met den HEERE, onzen God, om te wandelen in Zijn inzettingen, en Zijn geboden te houden, gelijk te dezen dage. 62En de koning, en gans Israel met hem, offerden slachtofferen voor het aangezicht des HEEREN. 63En Salomo offerde ten dankoffer, dat hij den HEERE offerde, twee en twintig duizend runderen, en honderd en twintig duizend schapen. Alzo hebben zij het huis des HEEREN ingewijd, de koning en al de kinderen Israels. 64Ten zelfden dage heiligde de koning het middelste des voorhofs, dat voor het huis des HEEREN was, omdat hij aldaar het brandoffer en het spijsoffer bereid had, mitsgaders het vet der dankofferen; want het koperen altaar, dat voor het aangezicht des HEEREN was, was te klein, om de brandofferen, en de spijsofferen, en het vet der dankofferen te vatten. 65Terzelfder tijd ook hield Salomo het feest, en gans Israel met hem, een grote gemeente, van den ingang af van Hamath tot de rivier van Egypte, voor het aangezicht des HEEREN, onzes Gods, zeven dagen en zeven dagen, zijnde veertien dagen. 66Op den achtsten dag liet hij het volk gaan, en zij zegenden den koning; daarna gingen zij naar hun tenten, blijde en goedsmoeds over al het goede, dat de HEERE aan David, Zijn knecht, en aan Israel, Zijn volk, gedaan had.
