1Khi nữ vương Sê-ba nghe nói về danh tiếng của Sa-lô-môn và về danh của Ðức Giê-hô-va, bèn đến thử Sa-lô-môn nhiều câu đố. 2Bà đến Giê-ru-sa-lem có hầu hạ theo rất đông, lạc đà chở thuốc thơm, nhiều vàng và ngọc. Bà đến cùng Sa-lô-môn, nói với người mọi điều có trong lòng mình. 3Sa-lô-môn đáp các câu hỏi của bà, chẳng câu nào ẩn bí quá cho vua, mà vua không giải nghĩa nổi cho bà. 4Khi nữ vương Sê-ba thấy mọi sự khôn ngoan của Sa-lô-môn, cung điện người cất, 5những món ăn trên bàn người, nhà cửa của tôi tớ người, thứ tự công việc của các quan, và đồ ăn mặc của họ, các quan chước tửu, và các của lễ thiêu người dâng trong đền Ðức Giê-hô-va, thì mất vía. 6Rồi bà nói rằng: Ðiều tôi nghe nói trong xứ tôi về lời nói và sự khôn ngoan của vua, thì thật lắm. 7Song trước khi tôi chưa đến đây, và chưa thấy tận mắt những điều này, thì tôi chẳng tin; và kìa, người ta chẳng nói đến được phân nửa! Sự khôn ngoan và oai nghi của vua trổi hơn tiếng đồn tôi đã nghe. 8Các tôi tớ vua thật có phước thay! Các tôi tớ vua hằng đứng chầu trước mặt vua, nghe sự khôn ngoan của vua, lấy làm có phước thay! 9Ðáng khen ngợi thay Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của vua, vì Ngài đẹp lòng vua, đặt vua trên ngôi của Y-sơ-ra-ên! Bởi vì Ðức Giê-hô-va yêu dấu Y-sơ-ra-ên mãi mãi, nên Ngài đã lập vua làm vua đặng cai trị theo sự ngay thẳng và công bình. 10Ðoạn nữ vương dâng cho vua một trăm hai mươi ta lâng vàng và rất nhiều thuốc thơm cùng ngọc quí. Từ đó nhẫn nay, chẳng hề có ai đem thuốc thơm đến số nhiều bằng của nữ vương nước Sê-ba dâng cho vua Sa-lô-môn. 11Ðoàn tàu Hi-ram chở vàng Ô-phia, cũng chở cây bạch đàn rất nhiều, và ngọc quí. 12Vua dùng cây bạch đàn này mà làm bao lơn cho đền thờ Ðức Giê-hô-va và cho nhà vua, cùng những đờn cầm và đơn sắt cho con hát. Từ đó, chẳng hề có ai đem đến Giê-ru-sa-lem cây bạch đàn dường ấy nữa, không ai thấy lại cho đến ngày nay. 13Vua Sa-lô-môn ban cho nữ vương Sê-ba mọi đều người ước và xin, chẳng kể những vật mà Sa-lô-môn đã ban cho bà, tùy lệ thường của vua. Ðoạn, bà và các tôi tớ bà lên đường trở về xứ mình. 14Vàng mà vua Sa-lô-môn thâu nhận mỗi năm cân đến sáu trăm bảy mươi sáu ta lâng, 15không kể vàng người thâu lấy nơi người buôn bán dông, và nơi sự đổi chác của kẻ thương mại, cùng vàng mà các vua A-ra-bi, và các quan tổng đốc của xứ đem nộp. 16Vua Sa-lô-môn làm hai trăm cái khiên lớn bằng vàng đánh giác, cứ mỗi cái dùng sáu trăm siếc lơ vàng; 17lại làm ba trăm cái khiên nhỏ, bằng vàng đánh giác, cứ mỗi cái dùng ba min vàng. Vua để các khiên ấy trong đền rừng Li-ban. 18Vua cũng làm một cái ngai lớn bằng ngà, bọc vàng ròng. 19Ngai này có sáu nấc; thân cao ngai phía sau thì tròn; mỗi phía ngai có thanh nâng tay, và hai con sư tử đứng kề. 20Lại có mười hai con khác đứng trên sáu nấc, nơi hữu và tả: chẳng có nước nào làm ngai giống như vậy. 21Hết thảy các chén uống của vua Sa-lô-môn đều bằng vàng, và những khí dụng trong cung rừng Li-ban đều cũng bằng vàng ròng. Chẳng có chi là bằng bạc: trong đời vua Sa-lô-môn, người ta chẳng kể bạc là chi. 22Vì đoàn tàu Ta-rê-si của vua mỗi ba năm một lần vượt biển với đoàn tàu của Hi-ram, đem về vàng, bạc, ngà voi, con khỉ, và con công. 23Ấy vậy, vua Sa-lô-môn trổi hơn các vua thế gian về sự giàu có và sự khôn ngoan. 24Cả thiên hạ đều tìm kiếm mặt Sa-lô-môn đặng nghe sự khôn ngoan mà Ðức Chúa Trời đã để trong lòng người. 25Cứ hằng năm, theo lệ định, mọi người đều đem đến dâng vật mình tiến cống cho vua, nào chậu bằng bạc và bằng vàng, áo xống, binh khí, thuốc thơm, ngựa, và la. 26Sa-lô-môn cũng nhóm xe và lính kị; có một ngàn bốn trăm xe và mười hai ngàn lính kị, để trong các thành chứa xe, và tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, gần bên vua. 27Tại Giê-ru-sa-lem vua làm cho bạc ra thường như đá, và cây bá hương nhiều như cây sung mọc nơi đồng bằng. 28Vua Sa-lô-môn do nơi Ê-díp-tô mà được ngựa; một đoàn con buôn của vua đi kiếm mua từng bầy, giá phải chăng. 29Mỗi cỗ xe mua ở xứ Ê-díp-tô và dẫn về Giê-ru-sa-lem, giá đáng sáu trăm siếc lơ bạc, còn mỗi con ngựa giá đáng một trăm năm mươi siếc lơ. Các vua dân Hê-tít và vua Sy-ri cũng theo giá ấy, nhờ những con buôn của vua mua về.
1When the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning Yahweh’s name, she came to prove him with hard questions. 2She came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bore spices, and very much gold, and precious stones; and when she had come to Solomon, she talked with him of all that was in her heart. 3Solomon told her all her questions: there was not anything hidden from the king which he didn’t tell her. 4When the queen of Sheba had seen all the wisdom of Solomon, and the house that he had built, 5and the food of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their clothing, and his cup bearers, and his ascent by which he went up to Yahweh’s house; there was no more spirit in her. 6She said to the king, “It was a true report that I heard in my own land of your acts, and of your wisdom. 7However I didn’t believe the words, until I came, and my eyes had seen it. Behold, the half was not told me! Your wisdom and prosperity exceed the fame which I heard. 8Happy are your men, happy are these your servants, who stand continually before you, who hear your wisdom. 9Blessed is Yahweh your God, who delighted in you, to set you on the throne of Israel. Because Yahweh loved Israel forever, therefore made he you king, to do justice and righteousness.” 10She gave the king one hundred twenty talents of gold, and of spices very great store, and precious stones. There came no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon. 11The navy also of Hiram, that brought gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir great plenty of almug trees and precious stones. 12The king made of the almug trees pillars for Yahweh’s house, and for the king’s house, harps also and stringed instruments for the singers: there came no such almug trees, nor were seen, to this day. 13King Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatever she asked, besides that which Solomon gave her of his royal bounty. So she turned, and went to her own land, she and her servants. 14Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred sixty-six talents of gold, 15besides that which the traders brought, and the traffic of the merchants, and of all the kings of the mixed people, and of the governors of the country. 16King Solomon made two hundred bucklers of beaten gold; six hundred shekels of gold went to one buckler. 17he made three hundred shields of beaten gold; three minas of gold went to one shield: and the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon. 18Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with the finest gold. 19There were six steps to the throne, and the top of the throne was round behind; and there were stays on either side by the place of the seat, and two lions standing beside the stays. 20Twelve lions stood there on the one side and on the other on the six steps: there was nothing like it made in any kingdom. 21All king Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold: none were of silver; it was nothing accounted of in the days of Solomon. 22For the king had at sea a navy of Tarshish with the navy of Hiram: once every three years came the navy of Tarshish, bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks. 23So king Solomon exceeded all the kings of the earth in riches and in wisdom. 24All the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart. 25They brought every man his tribute, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and clothing, and armor, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year. 26Solomon gathered together chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, that he bestowed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem. 27The king made silver to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he to be as the sycamore trees that are in the lowland, for abundance. 28The horses which Solomon had were brought out of Egypt; and the king’s merchants received them in droves, each drove at a price. 29A chariot came up and went out of Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for one hundred fifty; and so for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, they brought them out by their means.
1En toen de koningin van Scheba het gerucht van Salomo hoorde, aangaande den Naam des HEEREN, kwam zij, om hem met raadselen te verzoeken. 2En zij kwam te Jeruzalem, met een zeer zwaar heir, met kemelen, dragende specerijen, en zeer veel gouds, en kostelijk gesteente; en zij kwam tot Salomo, en sprak tot hem al wat in haar hart was. 3En Salomo verklaarde haar al haar woorden; geen ding was er verborgen voor den koning, dat hij haar niet verklaarde. 4Als nu de koningin van Scheba zag al de wijsheid van Salomo, en het huis, hetwelk hij gebouwd had, 5En de spijze zijner tafel, en het zitten zijner knechten, en het staan zijner dienaren, en hun kledingen, en zijn schenkers, en zijn opgang, waardoor hij henen opging in het huis des HEEREN, zo was in haar geen geest meer. 6En zij zeide tot den koning: Het woord is waarheid geweest, dat ik in mijn land gehoord heb, van uw zaken en van uw wijsheid. 7Ik heb die woorden niet geloofd, totdat ik gekomen ben, en mijn ogen dat gezien hebben; en zie, de helft is mij niet aangezegd; gij hebt met wijsheid, en goed overtroffen het gerucht, dat ik gehoord heb. 8Welgelukzalig zijn uw mannen, welgelukzalig deze uw knechten, die gedurig voor uw aangezicht staan, die uw wijsheid horen! 9Geloofd zij de HEERE, uw God, Die behagen in u heeft gehad, om u op den troon van Israel te zetten! Omdat de HEERE Israel in eeuwigheid bemint, daarom heeft Hij u tot koning gesteld, om recht en gerechtigheid te doen. 10En zij gaf den koning honderd en twintig talenten gouds, en zeer veel specerijen, en kostelijk gesteente; als deze specerij, die de koningin van Scheba den koning Salomo gaf, is er nooit meer in menigte gekomen. 11Verder ook de schepen van Hiram, die goud uit Ofir voerden, brachten uit Ofir zeer veel almuggimhout en kostelijk gesteente. 12En de koning maakte van dit almuggimhout steunselen voor het huis des HEEREN, en voor het huis des konings, mitsgaders harpen en luiten voor de zangers. Het almuggimhout was zo niet gekomen noch gezien geweest, tot op dezen dag. 13En de koning Salomo gaf de koningin van Scheba al haar behagen, wat zij begeerde; behalve dat hij haar gaf naar het vermogen van den koning Salomo; zo keerde zij en toog in haar land, zij en haar knechten. 14Het gewicht nu van het goud, dat voor Salomo op een jaar inkwam was zeshonderd zes en zestig talenten gouds; 15Behalve dat van de kramers was, en van den handel der kruideniers, en van alle koningen van Arabie, en van de geweldigen van dat land. 16Ook maakte de koning Salomo tweehonderd rondassen van geslagen goud; zeshonderd sikkelen gouds liet hij opwegen tot elke rondas. 17Insgelijks driehonderd schilden van geslagen goud; drie pond gouds liet hij opwegen tot elk schild; en de koning legde ze in het huis des wouds van Libanon. 18Nog maakte de koning een groten elpenbenen troon, en hij overtoog denzelven met dicht goud. 19Deze troon had zes trappen, en het hoofd van den troon was van achteren rond, en aan beide zijden waren leuningen tot de zitplaats toe, en twee leeuwen stonden bij die leuningen. 20En twaalf leeuwen stonden daar op de zes trappen aan beide zijden, desgelijks is in geen koninkrijken gemaakt geweest. 21Ook waren alle drinkvaten van den koning Salomo van goud, en alle vaten van het huis des wouds van Libanon waren van gesloten goud; geen zilver was er aan; want het werd in de dagen van Salomo niet voor enig ding geacht. 22Want de koning had in zee schepen van Tharsis, met de schepen van Hiram; deze schepen van Tharsis kwamen in, eenmaal in drie jaren, brengende goud, en zilver, elpenbeen, en apen, en pauwen. 23Alzo werd de koning Salomo groter dan alle koningen der aarde, in rijkdom en in wijsheid. 24En de ganse aarde zocht het aangezicht van Salomo, om zijn wijsheid te horen, die God in zijn hart gegeven had. 25En zij brachten een ieder zijn geschenk, zilveren vaten, en gouden vaten, en klederen, en harnas, en specerijen, paarden en muilezelen, elk ding van jaar tot jaar. 26Daartoe vergaderde Salomo wagenen en ruiteren, en hij had duizend en vierhonderd wagenen, en twaalf duizend ruiteren, en legde ze in de wagensteden en bij den koning in Jeruzalem. 27En de koning maakte het zilver in Jeruzalem te zijn als stenen, en de cederen maakte hij te zijn als de wilde vijgebomen, die in de laagte zijn, in menigte. 28En het uitbrengen der paarden was hetgeen Salomo uit Egypte had; en aangaande het linnen garen, de kooplieden des konings namen het linnen garen voor den prijs. 29En een wagen kwam op, en ging uit van Egypte, voor zeshonderd sikkelen zilvers, en een paard voor honderd en vijftig; en alzo voerden ze die uit door hun hand voor alle koningen der Hethieten, en voor de koningen van Syrie.
