Chúng ta lại làm thinh chẳng rứt nó khỏi tay vua Sy-ri sao! 4Ðoạn, người nói với Giô-sa-phát rằng: Vua muốn đến cùng ta đặng đánh lấy Ra-mốt trong Ga-la-át chăng? Giô-sa-phát đáp với vua Y-sơ-ra-ên rằng: Tôi như ông; dân sự tôi như dân sự ông; và ngựa tôi như ngựa của ông. 5Song Giô-sa-phát nói với vua Y-sơ-ra-ên rằng: Tôi xin ông phải cầu vấn Ðức Giê-hô-va trước đã. 6Vậy, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên nhóm các tiên tri lại, số bốn trăm người, mà hỏi rằng: Ta có nên đi đánh Ra-mốt tại Ga-la-át, hay là chẳng nên đi? Chúng đáp rằng: Hãy đi lên; Chúa sẽ phó nó vào tay vua. 7Nhưng Giô-sa-phát tiếp rằng: Ở đây còn có đấng tiên tri nào khác của Ðức Giê-hô-va để chúng ta cầu vấn người ấy chăng? 8Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên đáp với Giô-sa-phát rằng: Còn có một người, tên là Mi-chê, con trai của Giêm-la; nhờ người ấy ta có thể cầu vấn Ðức Giê-hô-va; nhưng tôi ghét người, vì người chẳng nói tiên tri lành về tôi, bèn là dữ đó thôi. Giô-sa-phát nói rằng: Xin vua chớ nói như vậy. 9Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên bèn đòi một hoạn quan mà bảo rằng: Hãy lập tức mời Mi-chê, con trai của Giêm-la, đến. 10Vả, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên và Giô-sa-phát, vua Giu-đa, mỗi người đều mặc đồ triều phục, đương ngồi trên một cái ngai tại trong sân đạp lúa, nơi cửa thành Sa-ma-ri; và hết thảy tiên tri nói tiên tri trước mặt hai vua. 11Sê-đê-kia, con trai Kê-na-na, làm lấy những sừng bằng sắt, và nói rằng: Ðức giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Với các sừng này, ngươi sẽ báng dân Sy-ri cho đến khi diệt hết chúng nó. 12Và hết thảy tiên tri đều nói một cách, mà rằng: Hãy đi lên Ra-mốt trong Ga-la-át; vua sẽ được thắng, vì Ðức Giê-hô-va sẽ phó thành ấy vào tay vua. 13Vả, sứ giả đi mời Mi-chê, nói cùng người rằng: Những tiên tri đều đồng lòng báo cáo sự lành cho vua; tôi xin ông cũng hãy lấy lời như lời của họ mà báo cáo điều lành. 14Nhưng Mi-chê đáp rằng: Ta chỉ Ðức Giê-hô-va hằng sống mà thề, ta sẽ báo cáo điều gì Ðức Giê-hô-va dặn ta. 15Khi người đã đến cùng vua, vua bèn hỏi rằng: Hỡi Mi-chê, chúng ta có nên đi hãm đánh Ra-mốt trong Ga-la-át, hay là chẳng nên đi? Mi-chê đáp: Hãy đi, vua sẽ được thắng: Ðức Giê-hô-va sẽ phó thành ấy vào tay vua. 16Nhưng vua nói với người rằng: Biết bao lần ta đã lấy lời thề buộc ngươi chỉ khá nói chơn thật với ta nhơn danh Ðức Giê-hô-va. 17Bấy giờ Mi-chê đáp rằng: Tôi thấy cả Y-sơ-ra-ên bị tản lạc trên các núi, như bầy chiên không có người chăn; và Ðức Giê-hô-va phán rằng: Những kẻ ấy không có chủ; ai nấy khá trở về nhà mình bình yên. 18Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên nói cùng Giô-sa-phát rằng: Tôi há chẳng có nói với vua người chẳng nói tiên tri lành về việc tôi, bèn là nói tiên tri dữ sao? 19Mi-chê lại tiếp: Vậy, hãy nghe lời của Ðức Giê-hô-va: Tôi thấy Ðức Giê-hô-va ngự trên ngôi Ngài và cả cơ binh trên trời đứng chầu Ngài bên hữu và bên tả. 20Ðức Giê-hô-va phán hỏi: Ai sẽ đi dụ A-háp, để người đi lên Ra-mốt trong Ga-la-át, và ngã chết tại đó? Người trả lời cách này, kẻ trả lời cách khác. 21Bấy giờ, có một thần ra đứng trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va mà thưa rằng: Tôi sẽ đi dụ người. Ðức Giê-hô-va phán hỏi thần rằng: Dụ cách nào? 22Thần thưa lại rằng: Tôi sẽ đi và làm một thần nói dối trong miệng những tiên tri của người. Ðức Giê-hô-va phán rằng: Phải, ngươi sẽ dụ người được. Hãy đi và làm như ngươi đã nói. 23Vậy bây giờ, kìa, Ðức Giê-hô-va đã đặt một thần nói dối trong miệng các tiên tri vua, và Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phán sự dữ cho vua. 24Bấy giờ, Sê-đê-kia, con trai của Kê-na-na, đến gần Mi-chê, vả vào má người, mà rằng: Thần của Ðức Giê-hô-va có do đường nào lìa khỏi ta đặng đến nói với ngươi? 25Mi-chê đáp: Trong ngày ngươi chạy từ phòng này đến phòng kia đặng ẩn lánh, thì sẽ biết điều đó. 26Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên truyền lịnh rằng: Hãy bắt Mi-chê dẫn đến cho A-môn, quan cai thành, và cho Giô-ách, con trai của vua, 27rồi hãy nói rằng: Vua bảo như vầy: Hãy bỏ tù người này, lấy bánh và nước khổ nạn mà nuôi nó cho đến khi ta trở về bình an. 28Mi-chê tiếp rằng: Nếu vua trở về bình an, thì Ðức Giê-hô-va không cậy tôi phán. Người lại nói: Hỡi chúng dân! các ngươi khá nghe ta. 29Vậy, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên đi lên Ra-mốt trong Ga-la-át với Giô-sa-phát, vua Giu-đa. 30Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên nói cùng Giô-sa-phát rằng: Tôi sẽ giả dạng ăn mặc, rồi ra trận; còn vua hãy mặc áo của vua. Như vậy, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên ăn mặc giả dạng mà ra trận. 31Vả, vua Sỵ-ri đã truyền lịnh cho ba mươi hai quan coi xe mình rằng: Các ngươi chớ áp đánh ai bất kỳ lớn hay nhỏ, nhưng chỉ một mình vua Y-sơ-ra-ên mà thôi. 32Vậy, khi các quan coi xe thấy Giô-sa-phát thì nói rằng: Ấy quả thật là vua Y-sơ-ra-ên. Chúng bèn đến gần người đặng áp đánh; nhưng Giô-sa-phát kêu la lên. 33Khi các quan coi xe thấy chẳng phải vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, thì thối lại, không đuổi theo nữa. 34Bấy giờ, có một người tình cờ giương cung bắn vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, trúng nhằm người nơi giáp đâu lại. Vua nói cùng kẻ đánh xe mình rằng: Hãy quay cương lại, dẫn ta ra ngoài hàng quân, vì ta bị thương nặng. 35Nhưng trong ngày đó thế trận thêm dữ dội; có người nâng đỡ vua đứng trong xe mình đối địch dân Sy-ri. Ðến chiều tối vua chết; huyết của vít thương người chảy xuống trong lòng xe. 36Lối chiều, trong hàng quân có rao truyền rằng: Ai nấy hãy trở về thành mình, xứ mình. 37Vua băng hà là như vậy; người ta đem thây vua về Sa-ma-ri, và chôn tại đó. 38Người ta rửa xe người tại trong ao Sa-ma-ri, là nơi những bợm buôn hương tắm, và có những chó liếm máu người, y như lời Ðức Giê-hô-va phán. 39Các chuyện khác của A-háp, những công việc người làm, cái đền bằng ngà người cất, và các thành người xây, đều chép trong sử ký về các vua Y-sơ-ra-ên. 40Vậy A-háp an giấc cùng tổ phụ mình, và A-cha-xia, con trai người, kế vị người. 41Năm thứ tư đời A-háp, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, thì Giô-sa-phát con trai A-sa, lên ngôi làm vua Giu-đa. 42Giô-sa-phát lên ngôi, tuổi được ba mươi lăm; người cai trị hai mươi lăm năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. Tên của mẹ người là A-xu-ba, con gái của Si-chi. 43Người đi theo đường của A-sa, cha người chẳng xây bỏ đi, song làm điều thiện trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va. (22:44) Nhưng người không trừ bỏ các nơi cao; dân sự còn tế lễ và đốt hương tại trên các nơi cao. 44(22:45) Giô-sa-phát và vua Y-sơ-ra-ên ở hòa hảo với nhau. 45(22:46) Các chuyện khác của Giô-sa-phát, dõng lực người, những giặc giã người, đều đã chép trong sử ký về các vua Giu-đa. 46(22:47) Người trừ diệt những bợm vĩ-gian còn lại trong xứ từ đời A-sa, cha mình. 47(22:48) Bấy giờ, dân Ê-đôm không có vua, có một quan trấn thủ cai trị. 48(22:49) Giô-sa-phát đóng một đoàn tàu Ta-rê-si đặng đi Ô-phia chở vàng, nhưng không đi đến đó được, bởi vì tàu vỡ ra tại Ê-xi-ôn-Ghê-be. 49(22:50) A-cha-xia, con trai của A-háp, nói với Giô-sa-phát rằng: Hãy cho phép các đầy tớ ta đi tàu với các đầy tớ ông. Nhưng Giô-sa-phát không chịu. 50(22:51) Giô-sa-phát an giấc với tổ phụ mình, được chôn với họ trong thành Ða-vít, cha người, và Giô-ram, con trai người, kế vị người. 51(22:52) Năm thứ bảy đời Giô-sa-phát, vua Giu-đa, thì A-cha-xia, con trai A-háp, lên ngôi làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên tại Sa-ma-ri, và cai trị hai năm. 52(22:53) Người làm điều ác trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, đi theo con đường của cha và mẹ mình, cùng theo đường của Giê-rô-bô-am, con trai của Nê-bát, là người xui cho Y-sơ-ra-ên phạm tội. 53(22:54) Người hầu việc Ba-anh và thờ lạy nó, chọc giận Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, cứ theo mọi sự cha người đã làm.
1They continued three years without war between Syria and Israel. 2In the third year, Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel. 3The king of Israel said to his servants, “You know that Ramoth Gilead is ours, and we are still, and don’t take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?” 4He said to Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to battle to Ramoth Gilead?” Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.” 5Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire first for Yahweh’s word.” 6Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, “Shall I go against Ramoth Gilead to battle, or shall I forbear?” They said, “Go up; for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.” 7But Jehoshaphat said, “Isn’t there here a prophet of Yahweh, that we may inquire of him?” 8The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Yahweh, Micaiah the son of Imlah; but I hate him; for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.” Jehoshaphat said, “Don’t let the king say so.” 9Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, “Quickly get Micaiah the son of Imlah.” 10Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, in an open place at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them. 11Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron, and said, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘With these you shall push the Syrians, until they are consumed.’” 12All the prophets prophesied so, saying, “Go up to Ramoth Gilead, and prosper; for Yahweh will deliver it into the hand of the king.” 13The messenger who went to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, “See now, the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth. Please let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak good.” 14Micaiah said, “As Yahweh lives, what Yahweh says to me, that I will speak.” 15When he had come to the king, the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battle, or shall we forbear?” He answered him, “Go up and prosper; and Yahweh will deliver it into the hand of the king.” 16The king said to him, “How many times do I have to adjure you that you speak to me nothing but the truth in Yahweh’s name?” 17He said, “I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. Yahweh said, ‘These have no master. Let them each return to his house in peace.’” 18The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Didn’t I tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?” 19Micaiah said, “Therefore hear Yahweh’s word. I saw Yahweh sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left. 20Yahweh said, ‘Who shall entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth Gilead?’ One said one thing; and another said another. 21A spirit came out and stood before Yahweh, and said, ‘I will entice him.’ 22Yahweh said to him, ‘How?’ He said, ‘I will go out and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ He said, ‘You will entice him, and will also prevail. Go out and do so.’ 23Now therefore, behold, Yahweh has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; and Yahweh has spoken evil concerning you.” 24Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, “Which way did the Spirit of Yahweh go from me to speak to you?” 25Micaiah said, “Behold, you will see on that day, when you go into an inner room to hide yourself.” 26The king of Israel said, “Take Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king’s son. 27Say, ‘Thus says the king, “Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.”’” 28Micaiah said, “If you return at all in peace, Yahweh has not spoken by me.” He said, “Listen, all you people!” 29So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead. 30The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will disguise myself, and go into the battle; but you put on your robes.” The king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle. 31Now the king of Syria had commanded the thirty-two captains of his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, except only with the king of Israel. 32When the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, “Surely that is the king of Israel!” and they turned aside to fight against him. Jehoshaphat cried out. 33When the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him. 34A certain man drew his bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the joints of the armor. Therefore he said to the driver of his chariot, “Turn your hand, and carry me out of the battle; for I am severely wounded.” 35The battle increased that day. The king was propped up in his chariot facing the Syrians, and died at evening. The blood ran out of the wound into the bottom of the chariot. 36A cry went throughout the army about the going down of the sun, saying, “Every man to his city, and every man to his country!” 37So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria. 38They washed the chariot by the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood where the prostitutes washed themselves; according to Yahweh’s word which he spoke. 39Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he built, and all the cities that he built, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 40So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his place. 41Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel. 42Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi. 43He walked in all the way of Asa his father; He didn’t turn aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh: however the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places. 44Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel. 45Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he showed, and how he fought, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 46The remnant of the sodomites, that remained in the days of his father Asa, he put away out of the land. 47There was no king in Edom: a deputy was king. 48Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they didn’t go; for the ships were broken at Ezion Geber. 49Then Ahaziah the son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, “Let my servants go with your servants in the ships.” But Jehoshaphat would not. 50Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father; Jehoram his son reigned in his place. 51Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned two years over Israel. 52He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, in which he made Israel to sin. 53He served Baal, and worshiped him, and provoked to anger Yahweh, the God of Israel, according to all that his father had done.

En Josafat zeide tot den koning van Israel: Zo zal ik zijn gelijk gij zijt, zo mijn volk als uw volk, zo mijn paarden als uw paarden. 5Verder zeide Josafat tot den koning van Israel: Vraag toch als heden naar het woord des HEEREN. 6Toen vergaderde de koning van Israel de profeten, omtrent vierhonderd man, en hij zeide tot hen: Zal ik tegen Ramoth in Gilead ten strijde trekken, of zal ik het nalaten? En zij zeiden: Trek op, want de HEERE zal ze in de hand des konings geven. 7Maar Josafat zeide: Is hier niet nog een profeet des HEEREN, dat wij het van hem vragen mochten? 8Toen zeide de koning van Israel tot Josafat: Er is nog een man, om door hem den HEERE te vragen; maar ik haat hem, omdat hij over mij niets goeds profeteert, maar kwaad: Micha, de zoon van Jimla. En Josafat zeide: De koning zegge niet alzo! 9Toen riep de koning van Israel een kamerling, en hij zeide: Haal haastelijk Micha, den zoon van Jimla. 10De koning van Israel nu, en Josafat, de koning van Juda, zaten elk op zijn troon, bekleed met hun klederen, op het plein, aan de deur der poort van Samaria; en al de profeten profeteerden in hun tegenwoordigheid. 11En Zedekia, de zoon van Kenaana, had zich ijzeren horens gemaakt; en hij zeide: Zo zegt de HEERE: Met deze zult gij de Syriers stoten, totdat gij hen gans verdaan zult hebben. 12En al de profeten profeteerden alzo, zeggende: Trek op naar Ramoth in Gilead, en gij zult voorspoedig zijn; want de HEERE zal hen in de hand des konings geven. 13De bode nu, die heengegaan was, om Micha te roepen, sprak tot hem, zeggende: Zie toch, de woorden der profeten zijn uit een mond goed tot den koning; dat toch uw woord zij, gelijk als het woord van een uit hen, en spreek het goede. 14Doch Micha zeide: Zo waarachtig als de HEERE leeft, hetgeen de HEERE tot mij zeggen zal, dat zal ik spreken. 15Als hij tot den koning gekomen was, zo zeide de koning tot hem: Micha, zullen wij naar Ramoth in Gilead ten strijde trekken, of zullen wij het nalaten? En hij zeide tot hem: Trek op, en gij zult voorspoedig zijn, want de HEERE zal ze in de hand des konings geven. 16En de koning zeide tot hem: Tot hoe vele reizen zal ik u bezweren, opdat gij tot mij niet spreekt, dan alleen de waarheid, in den Naam des HEEREN? 17En hij zeide: Ik zag het ganse Israel verstrooid op de bergen, gelijk schapen, die geen herder hebben; en de HEERE zeide: Dezen hebben geen heer; een iegelijk kere weder naar zijn huis in vrede. 18Toen zeide de koning van Israel tot Josafat: Heb ik tot u niet gezegd: Hij zal over mij niets goed, maar kwaads profeteren? 19Verder zeide hij: Daarom hoort het woord des HEEREN: Ik zag den HEERE, zittende op Zijn troon, en al het hemelse heir staande nevens Hem, aan Zijn rechter hand en aan Zijn linkerhand. 20En de HEERE zeide: Wie zal Achab overreden, dat hij optrekke en valle te Ramoth in Gilead? De een nu zeide aldus, en de andere zeide alzo. 21Toen ging een geest uit, en stond voor het aangezicht des HEEREN, en zeide: Ik zal hem overreden. En de HEERE zeide tot hem: Waarmede? 22En hij zeide: Ik zal uitgaan, en een leugengeest zijn in den mond van al zijn profeten. En Hij zeide: Gij zult overreden, en zult het ook vermogen; ga uit en doe alzo. 23Nu dan, zie, de HEERE heeft een leugengeest in den mond van al deze uw profeten gegeven; en de HEERE heeft kwaad over u gesproken. 24Toen trad Zedekia, de zoon van Kenaana, toe, en sloeg Micha op het kinnebakken; en hij zeide: Door wat weg is de geest des HEEREN van mij doorgegaan, om u aan te spreken? 25En Micha zeide: Zie, gij zult het zien, op dienzelfden dag, als gij zult gaan van kamer in kamer, om u te versteken. 26De koning van Israel nu zeide: Neem Micha, en breng hem weder tot Amon, den overste der stad, en tot Joas, den zoon des konings; 27En gij zult zeggen: Zo zegt de koning: Zet dezen in het gevangenhuis, en spijst hem met brood der bedruktheid, en met water der bedruktheid, totdat ik met vrede weder kom. 28En Micha zeide: Indien gij enigszins met vrede wederkomt, zo heeft de HEERE door mij niet gesproken! Verder zeide hij: Hoort, gij volken altegaar! 29Alzo toog de koning van Israel en Josafat, de koning van Juda, op naar Ramoth in Gilead. 30En de koning van Israel zeide tot Josafat: Als ik mij versteld heb, zal ik in den strijd komen; maar gij, trek uw klederen aan. Alzo verstelde zich de koning van Israel, en kwam in den strijd. 31De koning nu van Syrie had geboden aan de oversten der wagenen, van welke hij twee en dertig had, zeggende: Gij zult noch kleinen noch groten bestrijden, maar den koning van Israel alleen. 32Het geschiedde dan, als de oversten der wagenen Josafat zagen, dat zij zeiden: Gewisselijk, die is de koning van Israel, en zij keerden zich naar hem, om te strijden; maar Josafat riep uit. 33En het geschiedde, als de oversten der wagenen zagen, dat hij de koning van Israel niet was, dat zij zich van achter hem afkeerden. 34Toen spande een man den boog in zijn eenvoudigheid, en schoot den koning van Israel tussen de gespen en tussen het pantsier. Toen zeide hij tot zijn voerman: Keer uw hand, en voer mij uit het leger, want ik ben zeer verwond. 35En de strijd nam op denzelven dag toe, en de koning werd met den wagen staande gehouden tegenover de Syriers; maar hij stierf des avonds, en het bloed der wonde vloeide in den bak des wagens. 36En er ging een uitroeping door het heirleger, als de zon onderging, zeggende: Een ieder kere naar zijn stad, en een ieder naar zijn land! 37Alzo stierf de koning, en werd naar Samaria gebracht; en zij begroeven den koning te Samaria. 38Als men nu den wagen in den vijver van Samaria spoelde, lekten de honden zijn bloed, waar de hoeren wiesen, naar het woord des HEEREN,, dat Hij gesproken had. 39Het overige nu der geschiedenissen van Achab, en al wat hij gedaan heeft, en het elpenbenen huis, dat hij gebouwd heeft, en al de steden, die hij gebouwd heeft, zijn die niet geschreven in het boek der kronieken der koningen van Israel? 40Alzo ontsliep Achab met zijn vaderen; en zijn zoon Ahazia werd koning in zijn plaats. 41Josafat nu, de zoon van Asa, werd koning over Juda, in het vierde jaar van Achab, den koning van Israel. 42Josafat was vijf en dertig jaren oud, als hij koning werd, en regeerde vijf en twintig jaren te Jeruzalem; en de naam zijner moeder was Azuba, de dochter van Silchi. 43En hij wandelde in al den weg van zijn vader Asa; hij week niet daarvan, doende dat recht was in de ogen des HEEREN. 44Evenwel werden de hoogten niet weggenomen; het volk offerde en rookte nog op de hoogten. 45En Josafat maakte vrede met den koning van Israel. 46Het overige nu der geschiedenissen van Josafat, en zijn macht, die hij bewezen heeft, en hoe hij geoorloogd heeft, zijn die niet geschreven in het boek der kronieken der koningen van Juda? 47Ook deed hij uit het land weg de overige schandjongens, die in de dagen van zijn vader Asa overgebleven waren. 48Toen was er geen koning in Edom, maar een stadhouder des konings. 49En Josafat maakte schepen van Tharsis, om naar Ofir te gaan om goud; maar zij gingen niet, want de schepen werden gebroken te Ezeon-Geber. 50Toen zeide Ahazia, de zoon van Achab, tot Josafat: Laat mijn knechten met uw knechten op de schepen varen; maar Josafat wilde niet. 51En Josafat ontsliep met zijn vaderen, en werd bij zijn vaderen begraven in de stad van zijn vader David; en zijn zoon Joram werd koning in zijn plaats. 52Ahazia, de zoon van Achab, werd koning over Israel te Samaria, in het zeventiende jaar van Josafat, den koning van Juda, en regeerde twee jaren over Israel. 53En hij deed dat kwaad was in de ogen des HEEREN; want hij wandelde in den weg van zijn vader, en in den weg van zijn moeder, en in den weg van Jerobeam, den zoon van Nebat, die Israel zondigen deed. En hij diende Baal, en boog zich voor hem, en vertoornde den HEERE, den God Israels, naar alles, wat zijn vader gedaan had.
