1Nang ikapitong taon ni Jehu ay nagpasimulang maghari si Joas: at siya'y nagharing apat na pung taon sa Jerusalem: at ang pangalan ng kaniyang ina ay Sibia na taga Beerseba. 2At gumawa si Joas ng matuwid sa harap ng mga mata ng Panginoon, sa lahat ng kaniyang kaarawan na ipinagturo sa kaniya ni Joiada na saserdote. 3Gayon ma'y ang mga mataas na dako ay hindi inalis: ang bayan ay nagpatuloy na naghain at nagsunog ng kamangyan sa mga mataas na dako. 4At sinabi ni Joas sa mga saserdote, Ang buong salapi ng mga bagay na itinalaga na napasok sa bahay ng Panginoon, na karaniwang salapi, na salapi na inihalaga sa mga pagkatao na hiniling sa bawa't isa, at ang buong salapi na nagudyok sa puso ng sinomang lalake na dalhin sa bahay ng Panginoon. 5Kunin ng mga saserdote, ng bawa't isa sa kaniyang kakilala: at kanilang huhusayin ang mga sira ng bahay saan man makakasumpong ng anomang sira. 6Nguni't nangyari, nang ikadalawangpu't tatlong taon ng haring si Joas, na hindi hinusay ng mga saserdote ang mga sira ng bahay. 7Nang magkagayo'y tinawag ng haring si Joas si Joiada na saserdote, at ang ibang mga saserdote, at sinabi sa kanila, Bakit hindi ninyo hinuhusay ang mga sira ng bahay? ngayon nga'y huwag na kayong magsikuha pa ng salapi sa inyong mga kakilala, kundi inyong ibigay para sa mga sira ng bahay. 8At pinayagan ng mga saserdote na huwag na silang magsikuha pa ng salapi sa bayan, o husayin man ang mga sira ng bahay. 9Nguni't si Joiada na saserdote ay kumuha ng isang kaban, at binutasan ang takip niyaon, at inilagay sa tabi ng dambana sa dakong kanan ng pumapasok sa bahay ng Panginoon: at isinilid doon ng mga saserdote na tagatanod-pinto ang buong salapi na dinala sa bahay ng Panginoon. 10At nagkagayon, nang makita nila na maraming salapi sa kaban, na ang kalihim ng hari at ang dakilang saserdote ay sumampa, at kanilang isinilid sa mga supot at binilang ang salapi na nasumpungan sa bahay ng Panginoon. 11At ibinigay nila ang salapi na tinimbang sa mga kamay nila na gumawa ng gawain, na siyang mga tagapangasiwa sa bahay ng Panginoon; at kanilang ibinayad sa mga anluwagi at sa mga manggagawa, na gumawa sa bahay ng Panginoon, 12At sa mga mangdadaras ng bato, at sa mga mananabas ng bato, at sa pagbili ng mga kahoy, at mga batong tabas upang husayin ang mga sira ng bahay ng Panginoon, at sa lahat sa magugugol sa bahay upang husayin. 13Nguni't walang ginawa para sa bahay ng Panginoon na mga tasang pilak, mga gunting, mga mangkok, mga pakakak, anomang mga kasangkapang ginto, o mga kasangkapang pilak, sa salapi na napasok sa bahay ng Panginoon: 14Sapagka't kanilang ibinigay yaon sa kanila na nagsigawa ng gawain, at ipinaghusay ng bahay ng Panginoon. 15Bukod dito'y hindi sila nangakikipagtuos sa mga lalake, na pinagabutan nila sa kamay ng salapi upang ibigay sa nagsisigawa ng gawain: sapagka't sila'y nagsisigawang may pagtatapat. 16Ang salaping handog dahil sa pagkakasala, at ang salaping handog dahil sa kasalanan, ay hindi ipinasok sa bahay ng Panginoon: yao'y sa mga saserdote nga. 17Nang magkagayo'y si Hazael na hari sa Siria ay umahon, at lumaban sa Gath, at sinakop yaon: at itinanaw ni Hazael ang kaniyang mukha upang umahon sa Jerusalem. 18At kinuha ni Joas sa hari sa Juda ang lahat na bagay na itinalaga ni Josaphat, at ni Joram, at ni Ochozias, na kaniyang mga magulang, na mga hari sa Juda, at ang kaniyang mga itinalagang bagay, at ang lahat na ginto na masusumpungan sa mga kayamanan ng bahay ng Panginoon, at ng bahay ng hari, at ipinadala kay Hazael na hari sa Siria: at siya'y umalis sa Jerusalem. 19Ang iba nga sa mga gawa ni Joas, at ang lahat niyang ginawa, di ba nangasusulat sa aklat ng mga alaala sa mga hari sa Juda? 20At ang kaniyang mga lingkod ay nagsibangon, at nagsipagbanta, at sinaktan si Joas sa bahay sa Millo, sa daan na palusong sa Silla. 21Sapagka't sinaktan siya ni Josachar na anak ni Simaath, at ni Jozabad na anak ni Somer, na kaniyang mga lingkod, at siya'y namatay; at inilibing nila siya na kasama ng kaniyang mga magulang sa bayan ni David: at naghari si Amasias na kaniyang anak na kahalili niya.
1In the seventh year of Jehu began Jehoash to reign; and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Zibiah of Beersheba. 2Jehoash did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh all his days in which Jehoiada the priest instructed him. 3However the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places. 4Jehoash said to the priests, “All the money of the holy things that is brought into Yahweh’s house, in current money, the money of the persons for whom each man is rated, and all the money that it comes into any man’s heart to bring into Yahweh’s house, 5let the priests take it to them, every man from his acquaintance; and they shall repair the breaches of the house, wherever any breach shall be found.” 6But it was so, that in the twenty-third year of king Jehoash the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house. 7Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and for the other priests, and said to them, “Why don’t you repair the breaches of the house? Now therefore take no more money from your treasurers, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.” 8The priests consented that they should take no more money from the people, neither repair the breaches of the house. 9But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in its lid, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one comes into Yahweh’s house: and the priests who kept the threshold put therein all the money that was brought into Yahweh’s house. 10It was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king’s scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags and counted the money that was found in Yahweh’s house. 11They gave the money that was weighed out into the hands of those who did the work, who had the oversight of Yahweh’s house: and they paid it out to the carpenters and the builders, who worked on Yahweh’s house, 12and to the masons and the stone cutters, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the breaches of Yahweh’s house, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it. 13But there were not made for Yahweh’s house cups of silver, snuffers, basins, trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into Yahweh’s house; 14for they gave that to those who did the work, and repaired therewith Yahweh’s house. 15Moreover they didn’t demand an accounting from the men into whose hand they delivered the money to give to those who did the work; for they dealt faithfully. 16The money for the trespass offerings, and the money for the sin offerings, was not brought into Yahweh’s house: it was the priests’. 17Then Hazael king of Syria went up, and fought against Gath, and took it; and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem. 18Jehoash king of Judah took all the holy things that Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own holy things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of Yahweh’s house, and of the king’s house, and sent it to Hazael king of Syria: and he went away from Jerusalem. 19Now the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 20His servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and struck Joash at the house of Millo, on the way that goes down to Silla. 21For Jozacar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, struck him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Amaziah his son reigned in his place.

Nu dan, neemt geen geld van uw bekenden, dat gij het zoudt geven voor de breuken van het huis. 8En de priesters bewilligden van het volk geen geld te nemen, noch de breuken van het huis te verbeteren. 9Maar de priester Jojada nam een kist, en boorde een gat in haar deksel, en zette die bij het altaar ter rechterhand, als iemand inkwam in het huis des HEEREN; en de priesters, die den dorpel bewaarden, staken daarin al het geld, dat ten huize des HEEREN gebracht werd. 10Het geschiedde nu, als zij zagen, dat veel gelds in de kist was, dat des konings schrijver met den hogepriester opkwam, en zij bonden het samen, en telden het geld, dat in het huis des HEEREN gevonden werd. 11En zij gaven het geld wel gewogen in handen der verzorgers van dat werk, die gesteld waren over het huis des HEEREN; en zij besteedden het uit aan de timmerlieden en aan de bouwlieden, die het huis des HEEREN vermaakten; 12En aan de metselaren, en aan de steenhouwers, en om hout en gehouwen stenen te kopen, om de breuken van het huis des HEEREN te verbeteren, en voor al wat uitgegeven werd voor het huis, om dat te beteren. 13Evenwel werden niet gemaakt voor het huis des HEEREN zilveren schalen, gaffelen, sprengbekkens, trompetten, noch enig gouden vat, of zilveren vat, van het geld, dat ten huize des HEEREN gebracht werd. 14Maar zij gaven dat aan degenen, die het werk deden; en zij verbeterden daarmede het huis des HEEREN. 15Daartoe eisten zij geen rekening van de mannen, wien zij dat geld in hun handen gaven, om aan degenen, die het werk deden, te geven; want zij handelden trouwelijk. 16Het geld van schuldoffer, en het geld van zondofferen werd ten huize des HEEREN niet gebracht; het was voor de priesteren. 17Toen trok Hazael, de koning van Syrie op, en krijgde tegen Gath, en nam haar in; daarna stelde Hazael zijn aangezicht, om tegen Jeruzalem op te trekken. 18Maar Joas, de koning van Juda, nam al de geheiligde dingen, die Josafat, en Joram, en Ahazia, zijn vaderen, de koningen van Juda, geheiligd hadden, en zijn geheiligde dingen, en al het goud, dat gevonden werd in de schatten van het huis des HEEREN, en van het huis des konings, en zond het tot Hazael, den koning van Syrie; toen trok hij op van Jeruzalem. 19Het overige nu der geschiedenissen van Joas, en al wat hij gedaan heeft, is dat niet geschreven in het boek der kronieken der koningen van Juda? 20En zijn knechten stonden op, en maakten een verbintenis, en sloegen Joas, in het huis van Millo, dat afgaat naar Silla; 21Want Jozacar, de zoon van Simeath, en Jozabad, de zoon van Somer, zijn knechten, sloegen hem, dat hij stierf; en zij begroeven hem met zijn vaderen in de stad Davids; en Amazia, zijn zoon, werd koning in zijn plaats.
