1Então o rei enviou aviso, e juntaram a ele todos os anciãos de Judá e de Jerusalém. 2E subiu o rei à casa do SENHOR com todos os homens de Judá, e com todos os moradores de Jerusalém, com os sacerdotes e profetas e com todo o povo, desde o menor até o maior; e leu, ouvindo-o eles, todas as palavras do livro do pacto que havia sido achado na casa do SENHOR. 3E pondo-se o rei em pé junto à coluna, fez aliança diante do SENHOR, de que seguiriam o SENHOR, e guardariam seus mandamentos, e seus testemunhos, e seus estatutos, com todo o coração e com toda a alma, e que cumpririam as palavras da aliança que estavam escritas naquele livro. E todo o povo confirmou o pacto. 4Então mandou el rei ao sumo sacerdote Hilquias, e aos sacerdotes de segunda ordem, e aos guardiões da porta, que tirassem do templo do SENHOR todos os vasos que haviam sido feitos para Baal, e para o bosque, e para toda o exército do céu; e queimou-os fora de Jerusalém no campo de Cedrom, e fez levar as cinzas deles a Betel. 5E tirou aos sacerdotes pagãos, que haviam posto os reis de Judá para que queimassem incenso nos altos nas cidades de Judá, e nos arredores de Jerusalém; e também aos que queimavam incenso a Baal, ao sol e à lua, e às constelações, e a todo o exército do céu. 6Fez também tirar o bosque fora da casa do SENHOR, fora de Jerusalém, ao ribeiro de Cedrom, e queimou-o no ribeiro de Cedrom, e tornou-o em pó, e lançou o pó dele sobre os sepulcros dos filhos do povo. 7Além disso derrubou as casas dos sodomitas que estavam na casa do SENHOR, nas quais teciam as mulheres tendas para o bosque. 8E fez vir todos os sacerdotes das cidades de Judá, e profanou os altos de onde os sacerdotes queimavam incenso, desde Gibeá até Berseba; e derrubou os altares das portas que estavam à entrada da porta de Josué, governador da cidade, que estavam à esquerda da porta da cidade. 9Porém os sacerdotes dos altos não subiam ao altar do SENHOR em Jerusalém, mas comiam pães sem levedura entre seus irmãos. 10Também profanou a Tofete, que está no vale do filho de Hinom, porque ninguém passasse seu filho ou sua filha por fogo a Moloque. 11Tirou também os cavalos que os reis de Judá haviam dedicado ao sol à entrada do templo do SENHOR, junto à câmara de Natã-Meleque eunuco, a qual ficava nos recintos; e queimou ao fogo os carros do sol. 12Derrubou também o rei os altares que estavam sobre o terraço da sala de Acaz, que os reis de Judá haviam feito, e os altares que havia feito Manassés nos dois átrios da casa do SENHOR; e dali correu e lançou o pó no ribeiro de Cedrom. 13Também profanou o rei os altos que estavam diante de Jerusalém, à direita do monte da destruição, os quais Salomão rei de Israel havia edificado a Astarote, abominação dos sidônios, e a Camos abominação de Moabe, e a Milcom abominação dos filhos de Amom. 14E quebrou as estátuas, e arrancou os bosques, e encheu o lugar deles de ossos de homens. 15Igualmente o altar que estava em Betel, e o alto que havia feito Jeroboão filho de Nebate, o que fez pecar a Israel, aquele altar e o alto destruiu; e queimou o alto, e o tornou em pó, e pôs fogo ao bosque. 16E voltou-se Josias, e vendo os sepulcros que estavam ali no monte, enviou e tirou os ossos dos sepulcros, e queimou-os sobre o altar para contaminá-lo, conforme à palavra do SENHOR que havia profetizado o homem de Deus, o qual havia anunciado estes negócios. 17E depois disse: Que monumento é este que vejo? E os da cidade lhe responderam: Este é o sepulcro do homem de Deus que veio de Judá, e profetizou estas coisas que tu fizeste sobre o altar de Betel. 18E ele disse: Deixai-o; ninguém mova seus ossos: e assim foram preservados seus ossos, e os ossos do profeta que havia vindo de Samaria. 19E todas as casas dos altos que estavam nas cidades de Samaria, as quais haviam feito os reis de Israel para provocar a ira, tirou-as também Josias, e fez delas como havia feito em Betel. 20Também matou sobre os altares a todos os sacerdotes dos altos que ali estavam, e queimou sobre eles ossos de homens, e voltou-se a Jerusalém. 21Então mandou o rei a todo o povo, dizendo: Fazei a páscoa ao SENHOR vosso Deus, conforme o que está escrito no livro desta aliança. 22Não foi feita tal páscoa desde os tempos dos juízes que governaram a Israel, nem em todos os tempos dos reis de Israel, e dos reis de Judá. 23Aos dezoito anos do rei Josias foi feita aquela páscoa ao SENHOR em Jerusalém. 24Também expulsou Josias os necromantes, adivinhos, e ídolos, e todas as abominações que se viam na terra de Judá e em Jerusalém, para cumprir as palavras da lei que estavam escritas no livro que o sacerdote Hilquias havia achado na casa do SENHOR. 25Não houve tal rei antes dele que se convertesse ao SENHOR de todo seu coração, e de toda sua alma, e de todas suas forças, conforme a toda a lei de Moisés; nem depois dele nasceu outro tal. 26Contudo isso, o SENHOR não se desviou do ardor de sua grande ira, com que se havia encendido sua ira contra Judá, por todas as provocações com que Manassés lhe havia irritado. 27E disse o SENHOR: Também tirarei de minha presença a Judá, como tirei a Israel, e abominarei a esta cidade que havia escolhido, a Jerusalém, e à casa da qual havia eu dito: Meu nome será ali. 28Os demais dos feitos de Josias, e todas as coisas que fez, não está tudo escrito no livro das crônicas dos reis de Judá? 29Em aqueles dias Faraó Neco rei do Egito subiu contra o rei da Assíria ao rio Eufrates, e saiu contra ele o rei Josias; mas aquele assim que lhe viu, o matou em Megido. 30E seus servos o puseram em um carro, e trouxeram-no morto de Megido a Jerusalém, e sepultaram-no em seu sepulcro. Então o povo da terra tomou a Jeoacaz filho de Josias, e ungiram-lhe e puseram-no por rei em lugar de seu pai. 31De vinte e três anos era Jeoacaz quando começou a reinar, e reinou três meses em Jerusalém. 1The king sent, and they gathered to him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem. 2The king went up to Yahweh’s house, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in Yahweh’s house. 3The king stood by the pillar, and made a covenant before Yahweh, to walk after Yahweh, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and all his soul, to confirm the words of this covenant that were written in this book: and all the people stood to the covenant. 4The king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the threshold, to bring out of Yahweh’s temple all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the Asherah, and for all the army of the sky, and he burned them outside of Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron, and carried their ashes to Bethel. 5He put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places around Jerusalem; those also who burned incense to Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the army of the sky. 6He brought out the Asherah from Yahweh’s house, outside of Jerusalem, to the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and beat it to dust, and cast its dust on the graves of the common people. 7He broke down the houses of the sodomites, that were in Yahweh’s house, where the women wove hangings for the Asherah. 8He brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beersheba; and he broke down the high places of the gates that were at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man’s left hand at the gate of the city. 9Nevertheless the priests of the high places didn’t come up to the altar of Yahweh in Jerusalem, but they ate unleavened bread among their brothers. 10He defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the children of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech. 11He took away the horses that the kings of Judah had given to the sun, at the entrance of Yahweh’s house, by the room of Nathan Melech the officer, who was in the court; and he burned the chariots of the sun with fire. 12The king broke down the altars that were on the roof of the upper room of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of Yahweh’s house, and beat them down from there, and cast their dust into the brook Kidron. 13The king defiled the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mountain of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon. 14He broke in pieces the pillars, and cut down the Asherah poles, and filled their places with the bones of men. 15Moreover the altar that was at Bethel, and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, had made, even that altar and the high place he broke down; and he burned the high place and beat it to dust, and burned the Asherah. 16As Josiah turned himself, he spied the tombs that were there in the mountain; and he sent, and took the bones out of the tombs, and burned them on the altar, and defiled it, according to Yahweh’s word which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these things. 17Then he said, “What monument is that which I see?” The men of the city told him, “It is the tomb of the man of God, who came from Judah, and proclaimed these things that you have done against the altar of Bethel.” 18He said, “Let him be! Let no man move his bones.” So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet who came out of Samaria. 19All the houses also of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke Yahweh to anger, Josiah took away, and did to them according to all the acts that he had done in Bethel. 20He killed all the priests of the high places that were there, on the altars, and burned men’s bones on them; and he returned to Jerusalem. 21The king commanded all the people, saying, “Keep the Passover to Yahweh your God, as it is written in this book of the covenant.” 22Surely there was not kept such a Passover from the days of the judges who judged Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel, nor of the kings of Judah; 23but in the eighteenth year of king Josiah was this Passover kept to Yahweh in Jerusalem. 24Moreover Josiah removed those who had familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the teraphim, and the idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, that he might confirm the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in Yahweh’s house. 25Like him was there no king before him, who turned to Yahweh with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him. 26Notwithstanding, Yahweh didn’t turn from the fierceness of his great wrath, with which his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocation with which Manasseh had provoked him. 27Yahweh said, “I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and I will cast off this city which I have chosen, even Jerusalem, and the house of which I said, ‘My name shall be there.’” 28Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and all that he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 29In his days Pharaoh Necoh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates: and king Josiah went against him; and Pharaoh Necoh killed him at Megiddo, when he had seen him. 30His servants carried him in a chariot dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own tomb. The people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and anointed him, and made him king in his father’s place. 31Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign; and he reigned three months in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. 32He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, according to all that his fathers had done. 33Pharaoh Necoh put him in bonds at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and put the land to a tribute of one hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold. 34Pharaoh Necoh made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the place of Josiah his father, and changed his name to Jehoiakim: but he took Jehoahaz away; and he came to Egypt, and died there. 35Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the land to give the money according to the commandment of Pharaoh: he exacted the silver and the gold of the people of the land, of everyone according to his taxation, to give it to Pharaoh Necoh. 36Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Zebidah the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah. 37He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, according to all that his fathers had done.
1Toen zond de koning henen, en tot hem verzamelden al de oudsten van Juda en Jeruzalem. 2En de koning ging op in het huis des HEEREN, en met hem alle inwoners van Jeruzalem, en de priesters en de profeten, en al het volk, van den minste tot den meeste; en hij las voor hun oren al de woorden van het boek des verbonds, dat in het huis des HEEREN gevonden was. 3De koning nu stond aan den pilaar, en maakte een verbond voor des HEEREN aangezicht, om den HEERE na te wandelen, en Zijn geboden, en Zijn getuigenissen, en Zijn inzettingen met ganser harte en met ganser ziele te houden, bevestigende de woorden dezes verbonds, die in dit boek geschreven zijn. En de lieden der stad zeiden tot hem: Het is het graf van den man Gods, die uit Juda kwam, en deze dingen, die gij tegen dit altaar van Beth-El gedaan hebt, uitgeroepen heeft. 18En hij zeide: Laat hem liggen, dat niemand zijn beenderen verroere. Zo bevrijdden zij zijn beenderen, met de beenderen van den profeet, die uit Samaria gekomen was. 19Daartoe nam Josia ook weg al de huizen der hoogten, die in de steden van Samaria waren, die de koningen van Israel gemaakt hadden, om den HEERE tot toorn te verwekken; en hij deed dezelve naar al de daden, die hij te Beth-El gedaan had. 20En hij slachtte al de priesteren der hoogten, die daar waren, op de altaren, en verbrandde mensenbeenderen op dezelve. Daarna keerde hij weder naar Jeruzalem. 21En de koning gebood het ganse volk, zeggende: Houdt den HEERE, uw God, pascha, gelijk in dit boek des verbonds geschreven is. 22Want gelijk dit pascha was er geen gehouden, van de dagen der richteren af, die Israel gericht hadden, noch in al de dagen der koningen van Israel, noch der koningen van Juda. 23Maar in het achttiende jaar van den koning Josia, werd dit pascha den HEERE te Jeruzalem gehouden. 24En ook deed Josia weg de waarzeggers, en de duivelskunstenaars, en de terafim, en de drekgoden, en alle verfoeiselen, die in het land van Juda en in Jeruzalem gezien werden; opdat hij bevestigde de woorden der wet, die geschreven waren in het boek, dat de priester Hilkia in het huis des HEEREN gevonden had. 25En voor hem was geen koning zijns gelijke, die zich tot den HEERE, met zijn ganse hart, en met zijn ganse ziel, en met zijn ganse kracht, naar al de wet van Mozes, bekeerd had; en na hem stond zijns gelijke niet op. 26Nochtans keerde zich de HEERE van den brand Zijns groten toorns niet af, waarmede Zijn toorn brandde tegen Juda, om al de tergingen, waarmede Manasse Hem getergd had. 27En de HEERE zeide: Ik zal Juda ook van Mijn aangezicht wegdoen, gelijk als Ik Israel weggedaan heb; en Ik zal deze stad Jeruzalem verwerpen, die Ik verkoren heb, en het huis, waarvan Ik gezegd heb: Mijn Naam zal daar wezen. 28Het overige nu der geschiedenissen van Josia, en al wat hij gedaan heeft, zijn die niet geschreven in het boek der kronieken der koningen van Juda? 29In zijn dagen toog Farao Necho, de koning van Egypte, op tegen den koning van Assyrie, naar de rivier Frath; en de koning Josia toog hem tegemoet, en hij doodde hem te Megiddo, als hij hem gezien had. 30En zijn knechten voerden hem dood op een wagen van Megiddo, en brachten hem te Jeruzalem, en begroeven hem in zijn graf; en het volk des lands nam Joahaz, den zoon Josia, en zalfden hem, en maakten hem koning in zijns vaders plaats. 31Drie en twintig jaren was Joahaz oud, toen hij koning werd, en hij regeerde drie maanden te Jeruzalem; en de naam zijner moeder was Hamutal, de dochter van Jeremia, van Libna. 32En hij deed dat kwaad was in de ogen des HEEREN, naar alles, wat zijn vaderen gedaan hadden. 33Doch Farao Necho liet hem binden te Ribla in het land van Hamath, opdat hij te Jeruzalem niet regeren zou; en hij legde het land een boete op van honderd talenten zilvers en een talent gouds. 34Ook maakte Farao Necho Eljakim, den zoon van Josia, koning, in de plaats van zijn vader Josia, en veranderde zijn naam in Jojakim; maar Joahaz nam hij mede, en hij kwam in Egypte, en stierf aldaar. 35En Jojakim gaf dat zilver en dat goud aan Farao; doch hij schatte het land, om dat geld naar het bevel van Farao te geven; een ieder naar zijn schatting eiste hij het zilver en goud af van het volk des lands, om aan Farao Necho te geven. 36Vijf en twintig jaren was Jojakim oud, toen hij koning werd, en regeerde elf jaren te Jeruzalem; en de naam zijner moeder was Zebudda, een dochter van Pedaja, van Ruma. 37En hij deed dat kwaad was in de ogen des HEEREN, naar alles, wat zijn vaders gedaan hadden.
