1No sétimo ano de Jeú começou a reinar Joás, e reinou quarenta anos em Jerusalém. O nome de sua mãe foi Zíbia, de Berseba. 2E Joás fez o que era coreto aos olhos do SENHOR todo o tempo que o sacerdote Joiada o conduziu. 3Contudo isso os altos não se tiraram; que ainda sacrificava e queimava o povo incenso nos altos. 4E Joás disse aos sacerdotes: Todo o dinheiro das santificações que se costuma trazer à casa do SENHOR, o dinheiro dos que passam no censo, o dinheiro pelas pessoas, cada qual segundo seu valor, e todo o dinheiro que cada um de sua própria vontade põe na casa do SENHOR. 5Recebam-no os sacerdotes, cada um de seus familiares, e reparem as fendas do templo de onde quer que se achar abertura. 6Porém o ano vinte e três do rei Joás, não haviam ainda reparado os sacerdotes as aberturas do templo. 7Chamando então o rei Joás ao sacerdote Joiada e aos sacerdotes, disse-lhes: Por que não reparais as aberturas do templo? Agora, pois, não tomeis mais o dinheiro de vossos familiares, mas sim dai-o para reparar as fendas do templo. 8E os sacerdotes consentiram em não tomar mais dinheiro do povo, nem ter cargo de reparar as aberturas do templo. 9Mas o sacerdote Joiada tomou uma arca, e fez-lhe na tampa um furo, e a pôs junto ao altar, à direita quando se entra no templo do SENHOR; e os sacerdotes que guardavam a porta, punham ali todo o dinheiro que se metia na casa do SENHOR. 10E quando viam que havia muito dinheiro no arca, vinha o notário do rei e o grande sacerdote, e contavam o dinheiro que achavam no templo do SENHOR, e guardavam-no. 11E davam o dinheiro suficiente em mão dos que faziam a obra, e dos que tinham o cargo da casa do SENHOR; e eles o gastavam em pagar os carpinteiros e mestres que reparavam a casa do SENHOR, 12E os pedreiros e cortadores de pedras; e em comprar a madeira e pedra lavrada para reparar as aberturas da casa do SENHOR; e em tudo o que se gastava na casa para repará-la. 13Mas daquele dinheiro que se trazia à casa do SENHOR, não se faziam bacias de prata, nem saltérios, nem bacias, nem trombetas; nem nenhum outro vaso de ouro nem de prata se fazia para o templo do SENHOR: 14Porque o davam aos que faziam a obra, e com ele reparavam a casa do SENHOR. 15E não se tomava em conta aos homens em cujas mãos o dinheiro era entregue, para que eles o dessem aos que faziam a obra: porque o faziam eles fielmente. 16O dinheiro pelo delito, e o dinheiro pelos pecados, não se metia na casa do SENHOR; porque era dos sacerdotes. 17Então subiu Hazael rei da Síria, e lutou contra Gate, e tomou-a; e Hazael decidiu subir contra Jerusalém; 18Pelo que tomou Joás rei de Judá todas as ofertas que havia dedicado Josafá, e Jorão e Acazias seus pais, reis de Judá, e as que ele havia dedicado, e todo o ouro que se achou nos tesouros da casa do SENHOR, e na casa do rei, e enviou-o a Hazael, rei da Síria; e ele se partiu de Jerusalém. 19Os demais dos feitos de Joás, e todas as coisas que fez, não estão escritos no livro das crônicas dos reis de Judá? 20E seus servos se levantaram, fizeram uma conspiração, e mataram a Joás na casa de Milo, quando ele estava descendo a Sila; 21Pois Jozacar filho de Simeate, e Jozabade filho de Somer, seus servos, feriram-lhe, e ele morreu. E sepultaram-lhe com seus pais na cidade de Davi, e reinou em seu lugar Amasias seu filho.
1In the seventh year of Jehu began Jehoash to reign; and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Zibiah of Beersheba. 2Jehoash did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh all his days in which Jehoiada the priest instructed him. 3However the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places. 4Jehoash said to the priests, “All the money of the holy things that is brought into Yahweh’s house, in current money, the money of the persons for whom each man is rated, and all the money that it comes into any man’s heart to bring into Yahweh’s house, 5let the priests take it to them, every man from his acquaintance; and they shall repair the breaches of the house, wherever any breach shall be found.” 6But it was so, that in the twenty-third year of king Jehoash the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house. 7Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and for the other priests, and said to them, “Why don’t you repair the breaches of the house? Now therefore take no more money from your treasurers, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.” 8The priests consented that they should take no more money from the people, neither repair the breaches of the house. 9But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in its lid, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one comes into Yahweh’s house: and the priests who kept the threshold put therein all the money that was brought into Yahweh’s house. 10It was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king’s scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags and counted the money that was found in Yahweh’s house. 11They gave the money that was weighed out into the hands of those who did the work, who had the oversight of Yahweh’s house: and they paid it out to the carpenters and the builders, who worked on Yahweh’s house, 12and to the masons and the stone cutters, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the breaches of Yahweh’s house, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it. 13But there were not made for Yahweh’s house cups of silver, snuffers, basins, trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into Yahweh’s house; 14for they gave that to those who did the work, and repaired therewith Yahweh’s house. 15Moreover they didn’t demand an accounting from the men into whose hand they delivered the money to give to those who did the work; for they dealt faithfully. 16The money for the trespass offerings, and the money for the sin offerings, was not brought into Yahweh’s house: it was the priests’. 17Then Hazael king of Syria went up, and fought against Gath, and took it; and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem. 18Jehoash king of Judah took all the holy things that Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own holy things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of Yahweh’s house, and of the king’s house, and sent it to Hazael king of Syria: and he went away from Jerusalem. 19Now the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 20His servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and struck Joash at the house of Millo, on the way that goes down to Silla. 21For Jozacar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, struck him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Amaziah his son reigned in his place.
1In het zevende jaar van Jehu werd Joas koning, en regeerde veertig jaren te Jeruzalem; en de naam zijner moeder was Zibja van Ber-seba. 2En Joas deed dat recht was in de ogen des HEEREN, al zijn dagen, in dewelke de priester Jojada hem onderwees. 3Alleenlijk werden de hoogten niet weggenomen; het volk offerde en rookte nog op de hoogten. 4En Joas zeide tot de priesteren: Al het geld der geheiligde dingen, dat gebracht zal worden in het huis des HEEREN, te weten het geld desgenen, die overgaat tot de getelden, het geld van een ieder der personen naar zijn schatting, en al het geld, dat in ieders hart komt, om dat te brengen in het huis des HEEREN, 5Zullen de priesters tot zich nemen, een ieder van zijn bekende; en zij zullen de breuken van het huis verbeteren, naar alles wat er voor breuk bevonden zal worden. 6Maar het geschiedde in het drie en twintigste jaar van den koning Joas, dat de priesters de breuken van het huis niet gebeterd hadden. 7Toen riep de koning Joas den priester Jojada en de andere priesteren, en zeide tot hen: Waarom betert gijlieden niet de breuken van het huis? Nu dan, neemt geen geld van uw bekenden, dat gij het zoudt geven voor de breuken van het huis. 8En de priesters bewilligden van het volk geen geld te nemen, noch de breuken van het huis te verbeteren. 9Maar de priester Jojada nam een kist, en boorde een gat in haar deksel, en zette die bij het altaar ter rechterhand, als iemand inkwam in het huis des HEEREN; en de priesters, die den dorpel bewaarden, staken daarin al het geld, dat ten huize des HEEREN gebracht werd. 10Het geschiedde nu, als zij zagen, dat veel gelds in de kist was, dat des konings schrijver met den hogepriester opkwam, en zij bonden het samen, en telden het geld, dat in het huis des HEEREN gevonden werd. 11En zij gaven het geld wel gewogen in handen der verzorgers van dat werk, die gesteld waren over het huis des HEEREN; en zij besteedden het uit aan de timmerlieden en aan de bouwlieden, die het huis des HEEREN vermaakten; 12En aan de metselaren, en aan de steenhouwers, en om hout en gehouwen stenen te kopen, om de breuken van het huis des HEEREN te verbeteren, en voor al wat uitgegeven werd voor het huis, om dat te beteren. 13Evenwel werden niet gemaakt voor het huis des HEEREN zilveren schalen, gaffelen, sprengbekkens, trompetten, noch enig gouden vat, of zilveren vat, van het geld, dat ten huize des HEEREN gebracht werd. 14Maar zij gaven dat aan degenen, die het werk deden; en zij verbeterden daarmede het huis des HEEREN. 15Daartoe eisten zij geen rekening van de mannen, wien zij dat geld in hun handen gaven, om aan degenen, die het werk deden, te geven; want zij handelden trouwelijk. 16Het geld van schuldoffer, en het geld van zondofferen werd ten huize des HEEREN niet gebracht; het was voor de priesteren. 17Toen trok Hazael, de koning van Syrie op, en krijgde tegen Gath, en nam haar in; daarna stelde Hazael zijn aangezicht, om tegen Jeruzalem op te trekken. 18Maar Joas, de koning van Juda, nam al de geheiligde dingen, die Josafat, en Joram, en Ahazia, zijn vaderen, de koningen van Juda, geheiligd hadden, en zijn geheiligde dingen, en al het goud, dat gevonden werd in de schatten van het huis des HEEREN, en van het huis des konings, en zond het tot Hazael, den koning van Syrie; toen trok hij op van Jeruzalem. 19Het overige nu der geschiedenissen van Joas, en al wat hij gedaan heeft, is dat niet geschreven in het boek der kronieken der koningen van Juda? 20En zijn knechten stonden op, en maakten een verbintenis, en sloegen Joas, in het huis van Millo, dat afgaat naar Silla; 21Want Jozacar, de zoon van Simeath, en Jozabad, de zoon van Somer, zijn knechten, sloegen hem, dat hij stierf; en zij begroeven hem met zijn vaderen in de stad Davids; en Amazia, zijn zoon, werd koning in zijn plaats.
