1Ular adalah yang paling licik dari segala binatang di padang yang telah dijadikan oleh TUHAN Allah. Dia berkata kepada perempuan itu, “Apakah Allah benar-benar berfirman, ‘Kamu tidak boleh makan dari pohon mana pun di taman ini?’” 2Perempuan itu berkata kepada ular, “Kami boleh makan buah dari pohon-pohon di dalam taman, 3tetapi dari buah pohon yang ada di tengah taman, Allah telah berfirman, ‘Kamu tidak boleh memakannya, kamu juga tidak boleh menyentuhnya, nanti kamu akan mati.’” 4Namun, ular itu berkata kepada perempuan itu, “Kamu sama sekali tidak akan mati, 5sebab Allah tahu bahwa pada hari kamu memakannya, matamu akan terbuka dan kamu akan menjadi seperti Allah, tahu yang baik dan yang jahat!” 6Ketika perempuan itu melihat bahwa pohon itu baik sebagai makanan dan itu menarik bagi mata, dan pohon itu diinginkan untuk membuat seseorang bijaksana, dia pun memetik buahnya dan memakannya. Lalu, dia juga memberikannya kepada suaminya yang bersamanya, dan suaminya pun memakannya. 7Lalu, mata mereka berdua terbuka sehingga mereka tahu bahwa mereka telanjang. Kemudian, mereka menyemat daun-daun ara dan membuat cawat. 8Ketika mereka mendengar suara TUHAN Allah yang berjalan di taman pada suatu hari yang sejuk, manusia dan istrinya itu menyembunyikan diri mereka dari hadapan TUHAN Allah di antara pohon-pohon di dalam taman. 9Namun, TUHAN Allah memanggil manusia itu dan berkata kepadanya, “Di manakah kamu?” 10Dia menjawab, “Aku mendengar suara-Mu di taman dan aku takut karena aku telanjang, jadi aku bersembunyi.” 11Kemudian, TUHAN berkata, “Siapa yang memberitahukanmu kalau kamu telanjang? Apakah kamu makan dari pohon yang kepadamu telah Kuperintahkan jangan kamu memakannya?” 12Manusia itu berkata, “Perempuan yang Engkau berikan untuk bersamaku itu, dialah yang telah memberikannya kepadaku dari pohon itu, maka aku pun memakannya.” 13Lalu, TUHAN Allah berkata kepada perempuan itu, “Apa yang telah kaulakukan?” Perempuan itu menjawab, “Ular itu menipuku, maka aku makan.” 14Kemudian, TUHAN Allah berkata kepada ular itu, “Karena kamu telah melakukan hal ini, terkutuklah kamu di antara segala hewan ternak, dan di antara segala binatang liar di padang. Dengan perutmu, kamu akan berjalan, dan kamu akan makan debu tanah seumur hidupmu. 15Aku akan mengadakan permusuhan antara kamu dengan perempuan ini, dan di antara keturunanmu dan keturunannya. Keturunannya akan meremukkan kepalamu, dan kamu akan meremukkan tumitnya.” 16Kepada perempuan itu, Allah berfirman, “Aku akan sangat melipatgandakan susah payahmu ketika mengandung; dalam kesakitan kamu akan melahirkan anak-anak; tetapi kamu tetap akan berahi kepada suamimu, dan dia akan berkuasa atasmu.” 17Lalu, kepada manusia itu, Dia berfirman, “Karena kamu mendengarkan suara istrimu, dan telah makan dari pohon yang kepadamu telah Kuperintahkan, ‘Jangan kamu memakannya,’ terkutuklah tanah karena kamu! Dengan susah payah kamu akan makan dari hasilnya selama hari-hari hidupmu. 18Semak duri dan rumput liarlah yang akan ditumbuhkan bagimu, dan kamu akan memakan tumbuh-tumbuhan di padang. 19Dengan keringat di wajahmu, kamu akan makan roti, sampai kamu kembali kepada tanah yang darinya kamu diambil. Sebab, kamu adalah debu, dan kamu akan kembali kepada debu. 20Manusia itu menyebut istrinya Hawa karena dia adalah ibu dari semua yang hidup. 21TUHAN Allah membuat pakaian dari kulit untuk manusia dan istrinya itu, lalu mengenakannya kepada mereka. 22Setelah itu, TUHAN Allah berfirman, “Lihatlah, manusia itu menjadi seperti salah satu dari Kita, tahu tentang yang baik dan yang jahat. Sekarang, jangan sampai dia mengulurkan tangannya dan mengambil juga dari pohon kehidupan, lalu memakannya dan hidup selama-lamanya.” 23Karena itu, TUHAN Allah menyuruhnya keluar dari taman Eden untuk mengolah tanah yang dari itu dia diambil. 24Setelah Allah menghalau manusia itu keluar, di sebelah timur taman Eden ditempatkan-Nyalah kerub-kerub dengan pedang api yang menyambar-nyambar untuk menjaga jalan menuju pohon kehidupan.
1Now the serpent was more subtle than any animal of the field which Yahweh God had made. He said to the woman, “Has God really said, ‘You shall not eat of any tree of the garden?’” 2The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees of the garden, 3but not the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden. God has said, ‘You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” 4The serpent said to the woman, “You won’t surely die, 5for God knows that in the day you eat it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took some of its fruit, and ate; and she gave some to her husband with her, and he ate it, too. 7Their eyes were opened, and they both knew that they were naked. They sewed fig leaves together, and made coverings for themselves. 8They heard the voice of Yahweh God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Yahweh God among the trees of the garden. 9Yahweh God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” 10The man said, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.” 11God said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” 12The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” 13Yahweh God said to the woman, “What have you done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” 14Yahweh God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, you are cursed above all livestock, and above every animal of the field. You shall go on your belly and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. 15I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel.” 16To the woman he said, “I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth. In pain you will bear children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” 17To Adam he said, “Because you have listened to your wife’s voice, and ate from the tree, about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ the ground is cursed for your sake. You will eat from it with much labor all the days of your life. 18It will yield thorns and thistles to you; and you will eat the herb of the field. 19By the sweat of your face will you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” 20The man called his wife Eve because she would be the mother of all the living. 21Yahweh God made coats of animal skins for Adam and for his wife, and clothed them. 22Yahweh God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand, and also take of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever...” 23Therefore Yahweh God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken. 24So he drove out the man; and he placed cherubim/f + cherubim are powerful angelic creatures, messengers of God with wings. 1De slang nu was listiger dan al het gedierte des velds, hetwelk de HEERE God gemaakt had; en zij zeide tot de vrouw: Is het ook, dat God gezegd heeft: Gijlieden zult niet eten van allen boom dezes hofs? 2En de vrouw zeide tot de slang: Van de vrucht der bomen dezes hofs zullen wij eten; 3Maar van de vrucht des booms, die in het midden des hofs is, heeft God gezegd: Gij zult van die niet eten, noch die aanroeren, opdat gij niet sterft. 4Toen zeide de slang tot de vrouw: Gijlieden zult den dood niet sterven; 5Maar God weet, dat, ten dage als gij daarvan eet, zo zullen uw ogen geopend worden, en gij zult als God wezen, kennende het goed en het kwaad. 6En de vrouw zag, dat die boom goed was tot spijze, en dat hij een lust was voor de ogen, ja, een boom, die begeerlijk was om verstandig te maken; en zij nam van zijn vrucht en at; en zij gaf ook haar man met haar, en hij at. 7Toen werden hun beider ogen geopend, en zij werden gewaar, dat zij naakt waren; en zij hechtten vijgeboombladeren samen, en maakten zich schorten. 8En zij hoorden de stem van den HEERE God, wandelende in den hof, aan de wind des daags. Toen verborg zich Adam en zijn vrouw voor het aangezicht van den HEERE God, in het midden van het geboomte des hofs. 9En de HEERE God riep Adam, en zeide tot hem: Waar zijt gij? 10En hij zeide: Ik hoorde Uw stem in den hof, en ik vreesde; want ik ben naakt; daarom verborg ik mij. 11En Hij zeide: Wie heeft u te kennen gegeven, dat gij naakt zijt? Hebt gij van dien boom gegeten, van welken Ik u gebood, dat gij daarvan niet eten zoudt? 12Toen zeide Adam: De vrouw, die Gij bij mij gegeven hebt, die heeft mij van dien boom gegeven, en ik heb gegeten. 13En de HEERE God zeide tot de vrouw: Wat is dit, dat gij gedaan hebt? En de vrouw zeide: De slang heeft mij bedrogen, en ik heb gegeten. 14Toen zeide de HEERE God tot die slang: Dewijl gij dit gedaan hebt, zo zijt gij vervloekt boven al het vee, en boven al het gedierte des velds! Op uw buik zult gij gaan, en stof zult gij eten, al de dagen uws levens. 15En Ik zal vijandschap zetten tussen u en tussen deze vrouw, en tussen uw zaad en tussen haar zaad; datzelve zal u de kop vermorzelen, en gij zult het de verzenen vermorzelen. 16Tot de vrouw zeide Hij: Ik zal zeer vermenigvuldigen uw smart, namelijk uwer dracht; met smart zult gij kinderen baren; en tot uw man zal uw begeerte zijn, en hij zal over u heerschappij hebben. 17En tot Adam zeide Hij: Dewijl gij geluisterd hebt naar de stem uwer vrouw, en van dien boom gegeten, waarvan Ik u gebood, zeggende: Gij zult daarvan niet eten; zo zij het aardrijk om uwentwil vervloekt; en met smart zult gij daarvan eten al de dagen uws levens. 18Ook zal het u doornen en distelen voortbrengen, en gij zult het kruid des velds eten. 19In het zweet uws aanschijns zult gij brood eten, totdat gij tot de aarde wederkeert, dewijl gij daaruit genomen zijt; want gij zijt stof, en gij zult tot stof wederkeren. 20Voorts noemde Adam den naam zijner vrouw Heva, omdat zij een moeder aller levenden is. 21En de HEERE God maakte voor Adam en zijn vrouw rokken van vellen, en toog ze hun aan. 22Toen zeide de HEERE God: Ziet, de mens is geworden als Onzer een, kennende het goed en het kwaad! Nu dan, dat hij zijn hand niet uitsteke, en neme ook van den boom des levens, en ete, en leve in eeuwigheid. 23Zo verzond hem de HEERE God uit den hof van Eden, om den aardbodem te bouwen, waaruit hij genomen was. 24En Hij dreef de mens uit; en stelde cherubim tegen het oosten des hofs van Eden, en een vlammig lemmer eens zwaards, dat zich omkeerde, om te bewaren den weg van den boom des levens.
