Kemudian, Firaun terbangun dan ternyata itu adalah suatu mimpi. 8Pada pagi harinya, rohnya gelisah. Karena itu, dia menyuruh dan memanggil semua ahli sihir Mesir beserta semua orang bijaknya. Kemudian, Firaun menceritakan mimpinya kepada mereka, tetapi tidak ada satu pun yang mampu menafsirkannya bagi Firaun. 9Kemudian, kepala juru minuman berkata kepada Firaun, katanya, “Pada hari ini, aku teringat akan kesalahanku. 10Firaun pernah murka kepada hamba-hambanya dan memasukkanku ke penjara, di rumah kepala para pengawal, yaitu aku dan kepala juru roti. 11Pada satu malam, kami bermimpi suatu mimpi, yaitu dia dan aku, masing-masing bermimpi menurut arti mimpinya tersendiri. 12Di sana, ada seorang pemuda, orang Ibrani, hamba dari kepala para pengawal. Allah yang akan memberikan kepada Firaun suatu jawaban yang mendamaikan.” 17Lalu, Firaun berkata kepada Yusuf, “Dalam mimpiku, aku tampak sedang berdiri di tepi sungai. 18Lihatlah, dari sungai itu muncul tujuh sapi betina yang tambun tubuhnya dan kelihatan bagus. Mereka merumput di rumput-rumput rawa. 19Kemudian, tampak tujuh ekor sapi betina lainnya yang muncul setelah mereka, yang kelihatan buruk dan kurus. Apa yang hendak Allah lakukan telah Dia nyatakan kepada Firaun. 26Tujuh ekor sapi betina yang bagus adalah tujuh tahun dan tujuh bulir gandum yang bagus adalah tujuh tahun, mimpi tersebut satu adanya. 27Lalu, tujuh ekor sapi betina yang kurus dan kelihatan buruk, yang muncul sesudahnya, adalah tujuh tahun. Tujuh bulir gandum yang tipis dan rusak oleh angin timur itu akan menjadi tujuh tahun kelaparan. 28Inilah hal yang aku katakan kepada Firaun, yaitu apa yang hendak Allah lakukan telah Dia nyatakan kepada Firaun. 29Sesungguhnya, akan datang tujuh tahun masa kelimpahan besar di seluruh tanah Mesir. 30Setelah itu, akan datang tujuh tahun kelaparan sehingga segala kelimpahan sebelumnya di tanah Mesir akan terlupakan. Kelaparan itu akan menghabisi tanah ini. 31Bahkan, kelimpahan itu tidak akan diingat lagi di tanah itu karena kelaparan sesudahnya, sebab hal itu akan terlalu berat. 32Karena mimpi itu diulang sampai dua kali bagi Firaun, berarti hal tersebut telah ditetapkan oleh Allah dan Allah akan melaksanakannya secepatnya. 33Sebab itu, sebaiknya Firaun mencari seseorang yang pandai dan bijaksana, lalu mengangkatnya atas seluruh tanah Mesir. 34Lalu, hendaklah Firaun menunjuk para pengawas atas tanah ini dan mengambil seperlima bagian dari hasil tanah Mesir selama tujuh tahun kelimpahan itu. 35Biarlah mereka mengumpulkan segala makanan dalam tahun-tahun yang baik, yang akan datang ini, dan menimbun gandum di bawah tangan Firaun. Biarlah mereka menyimpan makanan di kota-kotanya. 36Makanan itu akan menjadi persediaan untuk tanah ini, selama tujuh tahun kelaparan yang akan terjadi di tanah Mesir supaya tanah ini tidak dibinasakan oleh kelaparan itu.” 37Usul tersebut baik di mata Firaun dan di mata seluruh hambanya. 38Lalu, Firaun berkata kepada para hambanya, “Apakah kita dapat menemukan orang seperti ini, seseorang dengan Roh Allah di dalam dirinya?” 39Lalu, Firaun berkata kepada Yusuf, “Karena Allah telah membuatmu semua hal ini diketahui olehmu, maka tidak ada satu pun yang sepandai dan sebijaksana dirimu. 40Kamu akan berkuasa atas istanaku dan berdasarkan perkataan mulutmulah seluruh rakyatku akan diperintah.” 41Firaun berkata kepada Yusuf, “Lihat, aku telah mengangkatmu menguasai seluruh tanah Mesir.” 42Kemudian, Firaun melepaskan cincin meterai dari tangannya dan memasangnya di tangan Yusuf, lalu dia memakaikan pakaian dari linen halus kepada Yusuf dan memasang sebuah rantai emas di lehernya. 43Setelah itu, Firaun menyuruh Yusuf mengendarai keretanya yang kedua dan di hadapan Yusuf, mereka berseru, “Berlutut!” Demikianlah Firaun mengangkatnya menguasai seluruh tanah Mesir. 44Firaun berkata kepada Yusuf, “Akulah Firaun, tetapi tanpamu, tidak akan ada seorang pun yang mengangkat tangannya atau kakinya di seluruh negeri Mesir.” 45Kemudian, Firaun menamai Yusuf dengan Zafnat-Paaneah. Dia juga memberikan Asnat kepadanya sebagai istri, yaitu anak Potifera, imam di On. Lalu, Yusuf pergi ke seluruh tanah Mesir. 46Yusuf berumur 30 tahun ketika dia berdiri di hadapan Firaun, raja Mesir. Yusuf pun pergi dari hadapan Firaun dan pergi mengelilingi seluruh tanah Mesir. 47Selama tujuh tahun kelimpahan, tanah itu mengeluarkan hasil yang berlimpah-limpah dari tanah. 48Selama tujuh tahun, dia mengumpulkan segala makanan dari tanah Mesir dan menimbun makanan di kota-kota: makanan dari ladang, dari sekitar masing-masing kota, ditimbunnya di tengah kota. 49Yusuf menimbun gandum seperti pasir di laut, sangat banyak, hingga dia berhenti menghitungnya karena sudah tidak terhitung. 50Sebelum tahun kelaparan datang, lahirlah dua anak laki-laki bagi Yusuf dari Asnat, anak Potifera, seorang imam di On. 51Yusuf menamai anak sulungnya Manasye, sebab katanya, “Allah telah membuatku melupakan segala kesusahanku dan seluruh rumah ayahku.” 52Nama anak keduanya adalah Efraim, sebab katanya, “Allah telah membuatku berbuah-buah di tanah kesengsaraanku.” 53Tujuh tahun kelimpahan di tanah Mesir pun berakhir. 54Tujuh tahun kelaparan pun mulai tiba, sebagaimana yang telah dikatakan Yusuf. Kelaparan terjadi di semua wilayah, tetapi di seluruh tanah Mesir ada makanan. 55Ketika seluruh tanah Mesir kelaparan, rakyat mulai berteriak kepada Firaun untuk makanan. Kemudian, Firaun berkata kepada semua orang Mesir, “Pergilah kepada Yusuf! Kamu harus melakukan apa pun yang dikatakannya.” 56Ketika kelaparan semakin menyebar ke seluruh muka bumi, Yusuf pun membuka semua penimbunan, dan menjualnya kepada orang Mesir. Kelaparan itu terlalu berat di tanah Mesir. 57Orang-orang dari seluruh bumi berdatangan ke Mesir untuk membeli gandum dari Yusuf karena kelaparan itu sangat berat di seluruh bumi.
1At the end of two full years, Pharaoh dreamed: and behold, he stood by the river. 2Behold, there came up out of the river seven cattle, sleek and fat, and they fed in the marsh grass. 3Behold, seven other cattle came up after them out of the river, ugly and thin, and stood by the other cattle on the brink of the river. 4The ugly and thin cattle ate up the seven sleek and fat cattle. So Pharaoh awoke. 5He slept and dreamed a second time: and behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, healthy and good. 6Behold, seven heads of grain, thin and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them. 7The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven healthy and full ears. Pharaoh awoke, and behold, it was a dream. 8In the morning, his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called for all of Egypt’s magicians and wise men. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but there was no one who could interpret them to Pharaoh. 9Then the chief cup bearer spoke to Pharaoh, saying, “I remember my faults today. 10Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and put me in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, me and the chief baker. 11We dreamed a dream in one night, I and he. We dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream. 12There was with us there a young man, a Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard, and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams. To each man according to his dream he interpreted. 13As he interpreted to us, so it was. He restored me to my office, and he hanged him.” 14Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon. He shaved himself, changed his clothing, and came in to Pharaoh. 15Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. I have heard it said of you, that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.” 16Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, “It isn’t in me. God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.” 17Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, “In my dream, behold, I stood on the brink of the river: 18and behold, there came up out of the river seven cattle, fat and sleek. They fed in the marsh grass, 19and behold, seven other cattle came up after them, poor and very ugly and thin, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for ugliness. 20The thin and ugly cattle ate up the first seven fat cattle, 21and when they had eaten them up, it couldn’t be known that they had eaten them, but they were still ugly, as at the beginning. So I awoke. 22I saw in my dream, and behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, full and good: 23and behold, seven heads of grain, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them. 24The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven good heads of grain. I told it to the magicians, but there was no one who could explain it to me.” 25Joseph said to Pharaoh, “The dream of Pharaoh is one. What God is about to do he has declared to Pharaoh. 26The seven good cattle are seven years; and the seven good heads of grain are seven years. The dream is one. 27The seven thin and ugly cattle that came up after them are seven years, and also the seven empty heads of grain blasted with the east wind; they will be seven years of famine. 28That is the thing which I spoke to Pharaoh. What God is about to do he has shown to Pharaoh. 29Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt. 30There will arise after them seven years of famine, and all the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Egypt. The famine will consume the land, 31and the plenty will not be known in the land by reason of that famine which follows; for it will be very grievous. 32The dream was doubled to Pharaoh, because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass. 33“Now therefore let Pharaoh look for a discreet and wise man, and set him over the land of Egypt. 34Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint overseers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt’s produce in the seven plenteous years. 35Let them gather all the food of these good years that come, and lay up grain under the hand of Pharaoh for food in the cities, and let them keep it. 36The food will be for a store to the land against the seven years of famine, which will be in the land of Egypt; that the land not perish through the famine.” 37The thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants. 38Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?” 39Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Because God has shown you all of this, there is no one so discreet and wise as you. 40You shall be over my house, and according to your word will all my people be ruled. Only in the throne I will be greater than you.” 41Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Behold, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.” 42Pharaoh took off his signet ring from his hand, and put it on Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in robes of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck, 43and he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had. They cried before him, “Bow the knee!” He set him over all the land of Egypt. 44Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, and without you shall no man lift up his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt.” 45Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphenath-Paneah; and he gave him Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On as a wife. Joseph went out over the land of Egypt. 46Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt. 47In the seven plenteous years the earth produced abundantly. 48He gathered up all the food of the seven years which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was around every city, he laid up in the same. 49Joseph laid up grain as the sand of the sea, very much, until he stopped counting, for it was without number. 50To Joseph were born two sons before the year of famine came, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On, bore to him. 51Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh, “For”, he said, “God has made me forget all my toil, and all my father’s house.” 52The name of the second, he called Ephraim: “For God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.” 53The seven years of plenty, that were in the land of Egypt, came to an end. 54The seven years of famine began to come, just as Joseph had said. There was famine in all lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread. 55When all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread, and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, “Go to Joseph. What he says to you, do.” 56The famine was over all the surface of the earth. Joseph opened all the store houses, and sold to the Egyptians. The famine was severe in the land of Egypt. 57All countries came into Egypt, to Joseph, to buy grain, because the famine was severe in all the earth.

Toen ontwaakte Farao, en ziet, het was een droom. 8En het geschiedde in den morgenstond, dat zijn geest verslagen was, en hij zond heen, en riep al de tovenaars van Egypte, en al de wijzen, die daarin waren; en Farao vertelde hun zijn droom; maar er was niemand, die ze aan Farao uitlegde. 9Toen sprak de overste der schenkers tot Farao, zeggende: Ik gedenk heden aan mijn zonden. 10Farao was zeer vertoornd op zijn dienaars, en leverde mij in bewaring ten huize van den overste der trawanten, mij en den overste der bakkers. 11En in een nacht droomden wij een droom, ik en hij; wij droomden elk naar de uitlegging zijns drooms. 12En aldaar was bij ons een Hebreeuws jongeling, een knecht van den overste der trawanten; en wij vertelden ze hem, en hij legde ons onze dromen uit; een ieder legde hij ze uit, naar zijn droom. 13En gelijk hij ons uitlegde, alzo is het geschied; mij heeft hij hersteld in mijn staat, en hem gehangen. 14Toen zond Farao en riep Jozef en zij deden hem haastelijk uit den kuil komen; en men schoor hem, en men veranderde zijn klederen; en hij kwam tot Farao. 15En Farao sprak tot Jozef: Ik heb een droom gedroomd, en er is niemand, die hem uitlegge; maar ik heb van u horen zeggen, als gij een droom hoort, dat gij hem uitlegt. 16En Jozef antwoordde Farao, zeggende: Het is buiten mij! God zal Farao's welstand aanzeggen. 17Toen sprak Farao tot Jozef: Zie, in mijn droom stond ik aan den oever der rivier; 18En zie, uit de rivier kwamen op zeven koeien, vet van vlees en schoon van gedaante, en zij weidden in het gras. 19En zie, zeven andere koeien kwamen op na deze, mager en zeer lelijk van gedaante, rank van vlees; ik heb dergelijke van lelijkheid niet gezien in het ganse Egypteland. 20En die ranke en lelijke koeien aten die eerste zeven vette koeien op; 21Dewelke in haar buik inkwamen; maar men merkte niet, dat ze in haar buik ingekomen waren; want haar aanzien was lelijk, gelijk als in het begin. Toen ontwaakte ik. 22Daarna zag ik in mijn droom, en zie zeven aren rezen op in een halm, vol en goed. 23En zie, zeven dorre, dunne en van den oostenwind verzengde aren, schoten na dezelve uit; 24En de zeven dunne aren verslonden die zeven goede aren. En ik heb het den tovenaars gezegd; maar er was niemand, die het mij verklaarde. 25Toen zeide Jozef tot Farao: De droom van Farao is een; hetgeen God is doende, heeft Hij Farao te kennen gegeven. 26Die zeven schone koeien zijn zeven jaren; die zeven schone aren zijn ook zeven jaren; de droom is een. 27En die zeven ranke en lelijke koeien, die na gene opkwamen, zijn zeven jaren; en die zeven ranke van den oostenwind verzengde aren zullen zeven jaren des hongers wezen. 28Dit is het woord, hetwelk ik tot Farao gesproken heb: hetgeen God is doende, heeft Hij Farao vertoond. 29Zie, de zeven aankomende jaren, zal er grote overvloed in het ganse land van Egypte zijn. 30Maar na dezelve zullen er opstaan zeven jaren des hongers; dan zal in het land van Egypte al die overvloed vergeten worden; en de honger zal het land verteren. 31Ook zal de overvloed in het land niet gemerkt worden, vanwege dienzelven honger, die daarna wezen zal; want hij zal zeer zwaar zijn. 32En aangaande, dat die droom aan Farao ten tweeden maal is herhaald, is, omdat de zaak van God vastbesloten is, en dat God haast, om dezelve te doen. 33Zo zie nu Farao naar een verstandigen en wijzen man, en zette hem over het land van Egypte. 34Farao doe zo, en bestelle opzieners over het land; en neme het vijfde deel des lands van Egypte in de zeven jaren des overvloeds. 35En dat zij alle spijze van deze aankomende goede jaren verzamelen, en koren opleggen, onder de hand van Farao, tot spijze in de steden, en bewaren het. 36Zo zal de spijze zijn tot voorraad voor het land, voor zeven jaren des hongers, die in Egypteland wezen zullen; opdat het land van honger niet verga. 37En dit woord was goed in de ogen van Farao, en in de ogen van al zijn knechten. 38Zo zeide Farao tot zijn knechten: Zouden wij wel een man vinden als deze, in welken Gods Geest is? 39Daarna zeide Farao tot Jozef: Naardien dat God u dit alles heeft verkondigd, zo is er niemand zo verstandig en wijs, als gij. 40Gij zult over mijn huis zijn, en op uw bevel zal al mijn volk de hand kussen; alleen dezen troon zal ik groter zijn dan gij. 41Voorts sprak Farao tot Jozef: Zie, ik heb u over gans Egypteland gesteld. 42En Farao nam zijn ring van zijn hand af, en deed hem aan Jozefs hand, en liet hem fijne linnen klederen aantrekken, en legde hem een gouden keten aan zijn hals; 43En hij deed hem rijden op den tweeden wagen, dien hij had; en zij riepen voor zijn aangezicht: Knielt! Alzo stelde hij hem over gans Egypteland. 44En Farao zeide tot Jozef: Ik ben Farao! doch zonder u zal niemand zijn hand of zijn voet opheffen in gans Egypteland. 45En Farao noemde Jozefs naam Zafnath Paaneah, en gaf hem Asnath, de dochter van Potifera, overste van On, tot een vrouw; en Jozef toog uit door het land van Egypte. 46Jozef nu was dertig jaren oud, als hij stond voor het aangezicht van Farao, koning van Egypte; en Jozef ging uit van Farao's aangezicht, en hij toog door gans Egypteland. 47En het land bracht voort, in de zeven jaren des overvloeds, bij handvollen. 48En hij vergaderde alle spijze der zeven jaren, die in Egypteland was, en deed de spijze in de steden; de spijze van het veld van elke stad, hetwelk rondom haar was, deed hij daarbinnen. 49Alzo bracht Jozef zeer veel koren bijeen, als het zand der zee, totdat men ophield te tellen: want daarvan was geen getal. 50En Jozef werden twee zonen geboren, eer er een jaar des hongers aankwam, die Asnath, de dochter van Potifera, overste van On, hem baarde. 51En Jozef noemde den naam des eerstgeborenen Manasse; want, zeide hij, God heeft mij doen vergeten al mijn moeite, en het ganse huis mijns vaders. 52En den naam des tweeden noemde hij Efraim; want, zeide hij, God heeft mij doen wassen in het land mijner verdrukking. 53Toen eindigden de zeven jaren des overvloeds, die in Egypte geweest was. 54En de zeven jaren des hongers begonnen aan te komen, gelijk als Jozef gezegd had. En er was honger in al de landen; maar in gans Egypteland was brood. 55Als nu gans Egypteland hongerde, riep het volk tot Farao om brood; en Farao zeide tot alle Egyptenaren: Gaat tot Jozef, doet wat hij u zegt. 56Als dan honger over het ganse land was, zo opende Jozef alles, waarin iets was, en verkocht aan de Egyptenaren; want de honger was sterk in Egypteland. 57En alle landen kwamen in Egypte tot Jozef, om te kopen; want de honger was sterk in alle landen.
