1Le cinquième ange sonna de la trompette. Et je vis une étoile qui était tombée du ciel sur la terre. La clef du puits de l’abîme lui fut donnée, 2et elle ouvrit le puits de l’abîme. Et il monta du puits une fumée, comme la fumée d’une grande fournaise ; et le soleil et l’air furent obscurcis par la fumée du puits. 3De la fumée sortirent des sauterelles, qui se répandirent sur la terre ; et il leur fut donné un pouvoir comme le pouvoir qu’ont les scorpions de la terre. 4Il leur fut dit de ne point faire de mal à l’herbe de la terre, ni à aucune verdure, ni à aucun arbre, mais seulement aux hommes qui n’avaient pas le sceau de Dieu sur le front. 5Il leur fut donné, non de les tuer, mais de les tourmenter pendant cinq mois ; et le tourment qu’elles causaient était comme le tourment que cause le scorpion, quand il pique un homme. 6En ces jours-là, les hommes chercheront la mort, et ils ne la trouveront pas ; ils désireront mourir, et la mort fuira loin d’eux. 7Ces sauterelles ressemblaient à des chevaux préparés pour le combat ; il y avait sur leurs têtes comme des couronnes semblables à de l’or, et leurs visages étaient comme des visages d’hommes. 8Elles avaient des cheveux comme des cheveux de femmes, et leurs dents étaient comme des dents de lions. 9Elles avaient des cuirasses comme des cuirasses de fer, et le bruit de leurs ailes était comme un bruit de chars à plusieurs chevaux qui courent au combat. 10Elles avaient des queues semblables à des scorpions et des aiguillons, et c’est dans leurs queues qu’était le pouvoir de faire du mal aux hommes pendant cinq mois. 11Elles avaient sur elles comme roi l’ange de l’abîme, nommé en hébreu Abaddon, et en grec Apollyon. 12Le premier malheur est passé. Voici il vient encore deux malheurs après cela. 13Le sixième ange sonna de la trompette. Et j’entendis une voix venant des quatre cornes de l’autel d’or qui est devant Dieu, 14et disant au sixième ange qui avait la trompette : Délie les quatre anges qui sont liés sur le grand fleuve d’Euphrate. 15Et les quatre anges qui étaient prêts pour l’heure, le jour, le mois et l’année, furent déliés afin qu’ils tuassent le tiers des hommes. 16Le nombre des cavaliers de l’armée était de deux myriades de myriades : j’en entendis le nombre. 17Et ainsi je vis les chevaux dans la vision, et ceux qui les montaient, ayant des cuirasses couleur de feu, d’hyacinthe, et de soufre. Les têtes des chevaux étaient comme des têtes de lions ; et de leurs bouches il sortait du feu, de la fumée, et du soufre. 18Le tiers des hommes fut tué par ces trois fléaux, par le feu, par la fumée, et par le soufre, qui sortaient de leurs bouches. 19Car le pouvoir des chevaux était dans leurs bouches et dans leurs queues ; leurs queues étaient semblables à des serpents ayant des têtes, et c’est avec elles qu’ils faisaient du mal. 20Les autres hommes qui ne furent pas tués par ces fléaux ne se repentirent pas des œuvres de leurs mains, de manière à ne point adorer les démons, et les idoles d’or, d’argent, d’airain, de pierre et de bois, qui ne peuvent ni voir, ni entendre, ni marcher ; 21et ils ne se repentirent pas de leurs meurtres, ni de leurs enchantements, ni de leur impudicité ni de leurs vols.
1The fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star from the sky which had fallen to the earth. The key to the pit of the abyss was given to him. 2He opened the pit of the abyss, and smoke went up out of the pit, like the smoke from a burning furnace. The sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke from the pit. 3Then out of the smoke came locusts on the earth, and power was given to them, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4They were told that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree, but only those people who don’t have God’s seal on their foreheads. 5They were given power not to kill them, but to torment them for five months. Their torment was like the torment of a scorpion, when it strikes a person. 6In those days people will seek death, and will in no way find it. They will desire to die, and death will flee from them. 7The shapes of the locusts were like horses prepared for war. On their heads were something like golden crowns, and their faces were like people’s faces. 8They had hair like women’s hair, and their teeth were like those of lions. 9They had breastplates, like breastplates of iron. The sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots, or of many horses rushing to war. 10They have tails like those of scorpions, and stings. In their tails they have power to harm men for five months. 11They have over them as king the angel of the abyss. His name in Hebrew is “Abaddon”, but in Greek, he has the name “Apollyon”. 12The first woe is past. Behold, there are still two woes coming after this. 13The sixth angel sounded. I heard a voice from the horns of the golden altar which is before God, 14saying to the sixth angel who had one trumpet, “Free the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates!” 15The four angels were freed who had been prepared for that hour and day and month and year, so that they might kill one third of mankind. 16The number of the armies of the horsemen was two hundred million. I heard the number of them. 17Thus I saw the horses in the vision, and those who sat on them, having breastplates of fiery red, hyacinth blue, and sulfur yellow; and the heads of lions. Out of their mouths proceed fire, smoke, and sulfur. 18By these three plagues were one third of mankind killed: by the fire, the smoke, and the sulfur, which proceeded out of their mouths. 19For the power of the horses is in their mouths, and in their tails. For their tails are like serpents, and have heads, and with them they harm. 20The rest of mankind, who were not killed with these plagues, didn’t repent of the works of their hands, that they wouldn’t worship demons, and the idols of gold, and of silver, and of brass, and of stone, and of wood; which can neither see, nor hear, nor walk. 21They didn’t repent of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their sexual immorality, nor of their thefts.
1En de vijfde engel heeft gebazuind, en ik zag een ster, gevallen uit den hemel op de aarde, en haar werd gegeven de sleutel van den put des afgronds. 2En zij heeft den put des afgronds geopend; en er is rook opgegaan uit den put, als rook eens groten ovens; en de zon en de lucht is verduisterd geworden van den rook des puts. 3En uit den rook kwamen sprinkhanen op de aarde, en hun werd macht gegeven, gelijk de schorpioenen der aarde macht hebben. 4En hun werd gezegd, dat zij het gras der aarde niet zouden beschadigen, noch enige groente, noch enigen boom, dan de mensen alleen, die het zegel Gods aan hun voorhoofden niet hebben. 5En hun werd macht gegeven, niet dat zij hen zouden doden, maar dat zij zouden van hen gepijnigd worden vijf maanden; en hun pijniging was als de pijniging van een schorpioen, wanneer hij een mens gestoken heeft. 6En in die dagen zullen de mensen den dood zoeken, en zullen dien niet vinden; en zij zullen begeren te sterven, en de dood zal van hen vlieden. 7En de gedaanten der sprinkhanen waren den paarden gelijk, die tot den oorlog bereid zijn; en op hun hoofden waren als kronen, het goud gelijk, en hun aangezichten als aangezichten van mensen. 8En zij hadden haar als haar der vrouwen, en hun tanden waren als tanden van leeuwen. 9En zij hadden borstwapenen als ijzeren borstwapenen; en het gedruis hunner vleugelen was als een gedruis der wagens, wanneer vele paarden naar den strijd lopen. 10En zij hadden staarten den schorpioenen gelijk, en er waren angels in hun staarten; en hun macht was de mensen te beschadigen vijf maanden. 11En zij hadden over zich tot een koning den engel des afgronds; zijn naam was in het Hebreeuws Abaddon, en in de Griekse taal had hij den naam Apollyon. 12Het ene wee is weggegaan, ziet, er komen nog twee weeen na dezen. 13En de zesde engel heeft gebazuind, en ik hoorde een stem uit de vier hoornen des gouden altaars, dat voor God was, 14Zeggende tot den zesden engel, die de bazuin had: Ontbind de vier engelen, die gebonden zijn bij de grote rivier, den Eufraat. 15En de vier engelen zijn ontbonden geworden, welke bereid waren tegen de ure, en dag, en maand, en jaar, opdat zij het derde deel der mensen zouden doden. 16En het getal van de heirlegers der ruiterij was tweemaal tien duizenden der tien duizenden; en ik hoorde hun getal. 17En ik zag alzo de paarden in dit gezicht, en die daarop zaten, hebbende vurige, en hemelsblauwe, en sulfervervige borstwapenen; en de hoofden der paarden waren als hoofden van leeuwen, en uit hun monden ging vuur, en rook, en sulfer. 18Door deze drie werd het derde deel der mensen gedood, namelijk door het vuur, en door den rook, en door het sulfer, dat uit hun monden uitging. 19Want hun macht is in hun mond, en in hun staarten; want hun staarten zijn aan de slangen gelijk, en hebben hoofden, en beschadigen met dezelve. 20En de overige mensen, die niet gedood zijn door deze plagen, hebben zich niet bekeerd van de werken hunner handen, dat zij niet zouden aanbidden de duivelen; en de gouden, en zilveren, en koperen, en stenen, en houten afgoden, die noch zien kunnen, noch horen, noch wandelen; 21En hebben zich ook niet bekeerd van hun doodslagen, noch van hun venijngevingen, noch van hun hoererij, noch van hun dieverijen.
