Osée 4

1Écoutez la parole de l’Éternel, enfants d’Israël ! Car l’Éternel a un procès avec les habitants du pays, Parce qu’il n’y a point de vérité, point de miséricorde, Point de connaissance de Dieu dans le pays. 2Il n’y a que parjures et mensonges, Assassinats, vols et adultères ; On use de violence, on commet meurtre sur meurtre. 3C’est pourquoi le pays sera dans le deuil, Tous ceux qui l’habitent seront languissants, Et avec eux les bêtes des champs et les oiseaux du ciel ; Même les poissons de la mer disparaîtront. 4Mais que nul ne conteste, que nul ne se livre aux reproches ; Car ton peuple est comme ceux qui disputent avec les sacrificateurs. 5Tu tomberas de jour, Le prophète avec toi tombera de nuit, Et je détruirai ta mère. 6Mon peuple est détruit, parce qu’il lui manque la connaissance. Puisque tu as rejeté la connaissance, Je te rejetterai, et tu seras dépouillé de mon sacerdoce ; Puisque tu as oublié la loi de ton Dieu, J’oublierai aussi tes enfants. 7Plus ils se sont multipliés, plus ils ont péché contre moi : Je changerai leur gloire en ignominie. 8Ils se repaissent des péchés de mon peuple, Ils sont avides de ses iniquités. 9Il en sera du sacrificateur comme du peuple ; Je le châtierai selon ses voies, Je lui rendrai selon ses œuvres. 10Ils mangeront sans se rassasier, Ils se prostitueront sans multiplier, Parce qu’ils ont abandonné l’Éternel et ses commandements. 11La prostitution, le vin et le moût, font perdre le sens. 12Mon peuple consulte son bois, Et c’est son bâton qui lui parle ; Car l’esprit de prostitution égare, Et ils se prostituent loin de leur Dieu. 13Ils sacrifient sur le sommet des montagnes, Ils brûlent de l’encens sur les collines, Sous les chênes, les peupliers, les térébinthes, Dont l’ombrage est agréable. C’est pourquoi vos filles se prostituent, Et vos belles-filles sont adultères. 14Je ne punirai pas vos filles parce qu’elles se prostituent, Ni vos belles-filles parce qu’elles sont adultères, Car eux-mêmes vont à l’écart avec des prostituées, Et sacrifient avec des femmes débauchées. Le peuple insensé court à sa perte. 15Si tu te livres à la prostitution, ô Israël, Que Juda ne se rende pas coupable ; N’allez pas à Guilgal, ne montez pas à Beth-Aven, Et ne jurez pas : L’Éternel est vivant ! 16Parce qu’Israël se révolte comme une génisse indomptable, Maintenant l’Éternel le fera paître Comme un agneau dans de vastes plaines. 17Éphraïm est attaché aux idoles : laisse-le ! 18À peine ont-ils cessé de boire Qu’ils se livrent à la prostitution ; Leurs chefs sont avides d’ignominie. 19Le vent les enveloppera de ses ailes, Et ils auront honte de leurs sacrifices.

1Hear Yahweh’s word, you children of Israel; for Yahweh has a charge against the inhabitants of the land: “Indeed there is no truth, nor goodness, nor knowledge of God in the land. 2There is cursing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery; they break boundaries, and bloodshed causes bloodshed. 3Therefore the land will mourn, and everyone who dwells therein will waste away. all living things in her, even the animals of the field and the birds of the sky; yes, the fish of the sea also die. 4“Yet let no man bring a charge, neither let any man accuse; For your people are like those who bring charges against a priest. 5You will stumble in the day, and the prophet will also stumble with you in the night; and I will destroy your mother. 6My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you may be no priest to me. Because you have forgotten your God’s law, I will also forget your children. 7As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me. I will change their glory into shame. 8They feed on the sin of my people, and set their heart on their iniquity. 9It will be, like people, like priest; and I will punish them for their ways, and will repay them for their deeds. 10They will eat, and not have enough. They will play the prostitute, and will not increase; because they have abandoned giving to Yahweh. 11Prostitution, wine, and new wine take away understanding. 12My people consult with their wooden idol, and answer to a stick of wood. Indeed the spirit of prostitution has led them astray, and they have been unfaithful to their God. 13They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains, and burn incense on the hills, under oaks and poplars and terebinths, because its shade is good. Therefore your daughters play the prostitute, and your brides commit adultery. 14I will not punish your daughters when they play the prostitute, nor your brides when they commit adultery; because the men consort with prostitutes, and they sacrifice with the shrine prostitutes; so the people without understanding will come to ruin. 15“Though you, Israel, play the prostitute, yet don’t let Judah offend; and don’t come to Gilgal, neither go up to Beth Aven, nor swear, ‘As Yahweh lives.’ 16For Israel has behaved extremely stubbornly, like a stubborn heifer. Then how will Yahweh feed them like a lamb in a meadow. 17Ephraim is joined to idols. Leave him alone! 18Their drink has become sour. They play the prostitute continually. Her rulers dearly love their shameful way. 19The wind has wrapped her up in its wings; and they shall be disappointed because of their sacrifices.

1Hoort des HEEREN woord, gij kinderen Israels! want de HEERE heeft een twist met de inwoners des lands, omdat er geen trouw, en geen weldadigheid, en geen kennis van God in het land is; 2Maar vloeken en liegen, en doodslaan, en stelen, en overspel doen; zij breken door, en bloedschulden raken aan bloedschulden. 3Daarom zal het land treuren, en een iegelijk, die daarin woont, kwelen, met het gedierte des velds, en met het gevogelte des hemels; ja, ook de vissen der zee zullen weggeraapt worden. 4Doch niemand twiste noch bestraffe iemand; want uw volk is als die met den priester twisten. 5Daarom zult gij vallen bij dag, ja, zelfs de profeet zal met u vallen bij nacht; en Ik zal uw moeder uitroeien. 6Mijn volk is uitgeroeid, omdat het zonder kennis is; dewijl gij de kennis verworpen hebt, heb Ik u ook verworpen, dat gij Mij het priesterambt niet zult bedienen; dewijl gij de wet uws Gods vergeten hebt, zal Ik ook uw kinderen vergeten. 7Gelijk zij meerder geworden zijn, alzo hebben zij tegen Mij gezondigd; Ik zal hunlieder eer in schande veranderen. 8Zij eten de zonde Mijns volks, en verlangen, een ieder met zijn ziel, naar hun ongerechtigheid. 9Daarom, gelijk het volk, alzo zal de priester zijn; en Ik zal zijn wegen over hem bezoeken, en zijn handelingen hem vergelden. 10En zij zullen eten, maar niet zat worden, zullen hoereren, maar niet uitbreken in menigte; want zij hebben nagelaten den HEERE in acht te nemen. 11Hoererij, en wijn, en most neemt het hart weg. 12Mijn volk vraagt zijn hout, en zijn stok zal het hem bekend maken; want de geest der hoererijen verleidt hen, dat zij van onder hun God weghoereren. 13Op de hoogten der bergen offeren zij, en op de heuvelen roken zij, onder een eik, en populier, en iepeboom, omdat derzelver schaduw goed is; daarom hoereren uw dochteren, en uw bruiden bedrijven overspel. 14Ik zal over uw dochteren geen bezoeking doen, omdat zij hoereren, en over uw bruiden, omdat zij overspel doen; want zij zelven scheiden zich af met de hoeren, en offeren met de snoodste hoeren; het volk dan, dat geen verstand heeft zal omgekeerd worden. 15Zo gij, o Israel! wilt hoereren, dat immers Juda niet schuldig worde; komt gij toch niet te Gilgal, en gaat niet op naar Beth-Aven, en zweert niet: Zo waarachtig als de HEERE leeft. 16Want Israel is onbandig, als een onbandige koe; nu zal hen de HEERE weiden, als een lam in de ruimte. 17Efraim is vergezeld met de afgoden; laat hem varen. 18Hunlieder zuiperij is afvallig; zij doen niet dan hoereren; hun schilden (het is een schande!) beminnen het woord: Geeft. 19Een wind heeft hen gebonden in zijn vleugelen, en zij zullen beschaamd worden vanwege hun offeranden.
