1Sentencoj de Salomono. Saĝa filo estas ĝojo por sia patro, Kaj filo malsaĝa estas malĝojo por sia patrino. 2Maljustaj trezoroj ne donas utilon; Sed bonfaremo savas de morto. 3La Eternulo ne malsatigos animon de piulo; Sed la avidon de malpiulo Li forpuŝas. 4Maldiligenta mano malriĉigas; Sed mano de diligentuloj riĉigas. 5Kiu kolektas dum la somero, tiu estas filo saĝa; Sed kiu dormas en la tempo de rikolto, tiu estas filo hontinda. 6Beno estas sur la kapo de piulo; Sed la buŝo de malpiulo kaŝas krimon. 7La memoro de piulo estas benata; Sed la nomo de malpiuloj forputros. 8Kiu havas saĝan koron, tiu akceptos moralordonojn; Sed kiu havas malsaĝan buŝon, tiu renversiĝos. 9Kiu iras en senkulpeco, tiu iras sendanĝere; Sed kiu kurbigas siajn vojojn, tiu estos punita. 10Kiu grimacas per la okulo, tiu kaŭzas suferon; Kaj kiu havas malsaĝan buŝon, tiu renversiĝos. 11La buŝo de piulo estas fonto de vivo; Sed la buŝo de malpiulo kaŝas krimon. 12Malamo kaŭzas malpacon; Sed amo kovras ĉiujn pekojn. 13Sur la lipoj de prudentulo troviĝas saĝo; Sed vergo apartenas al la dorso de sensaĝulo. 14Saĝuloj konservas la scion; Sed la buŝo de malsaĝulo estas proksima al la pereo. 15La havo de riĉulo estas lia fortika urbo; Sed pereo por la malriĉuloj estas ilia malriĉo. 16La laborpago de piulo estas por la vivo; La enspezoj de malpiulo estas por peko. 17Kiu konservas la instruon, tiu iras al vivo; Sed kiu forĵetas atentigon, tiu restas en eraro. 18Kiu kaŝas malamon, tiu havas falseman buŝon; Kaj kiu elirigas kalumnion, tiu estas malsaĝulo. 19Ĉe multo da vortoj ne evitebla estas peko; Sed kiu retenas siajn lipojn, tiu estas saĝa. 20La lango de piulo estas plej bonspeca arĝento; La koro de malpiuloj estas kiel nenio. 21La lipoj de piulo gvidas multajn; Sed malsaĝuloj mortas pro manko de saĝo. 22La beno de la Eternulo riĉigas, Kaj malĝojon Li ne aldonas al ĝi. 23Por malsaĝulo estas ĝojo fari malbonon; Kaj saĝo, por saĝulo. 24Kio timigas malpiulon, tio trafos lin; Kaj kion deziras piuloj, tio estos donita al ili. 25Kiel pasanta ventego, tiel malpiulo rapide malaperas; Sed piulo havas eternan fundamenton. 26Kiel la vinagro por la dentoj kaj la fumo por la okuloj, Tiel la maldiligentulo estas por tiuj, kiuj lin sendis. 27La timo antaŭ la Eternulo multigas la tagojn; Sed la jaroj de malpiuloj estos mallongigitaj. 28La atendo de piuloj fariĝos ĝojo; Sed la espero de malpiuloj pereos. 29La vojo de la Eternulo estas defendo por la senpekulo, Sed pereo por la malbonfarantoj. 30Piulo neniam falpuŝiĝos; Sed la malpiuloj ne restos sur la tero. 31La buŝo de piulo eligas saĝon; Sed lango falsema estos ekstermita. 32La lipoj de piulo anoncas favoraĵon, Kaj la buŝo de malpiuloj malicaĵon.

1The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father; but a foolish son brings grief to his mother. 2Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, but righteousness delivers from death. 3Yahweh will not allow the soul of the righteous to go hungry, but he thrusts away the desire of the wicked. 4He becomes poor who works with a lazy hand, but the hand of the diligent brings wealth. 5He who gathers in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during the harvest is a son who causes shame. 6Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked. 7The memory of the righteous is blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot. 8The wise in heart accept commandments, but a chattering fool will fall. 9He who walks blamelessly walks surely, but he who perverts his ways will be found out. 10One winking with the eye causes sorrow, but a chattering fool will fall. 11The mouth of the righteous is a spring of life, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked. 12Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all wrongs. 13Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has discernment, but a rod is for the back of him who is void of understanding. 14Wise men lay up knowledge, but the mouth of the foolish is near ruin. 15The rich man’s wealth is his strong city. The destruction of the poor is their poverty. 16The labor of the righteous leads to life. The increase of the wicked leads to sin. 17He is in the way of life who heeds correction, but he who forsakes reproof leads others astray. 18He who hides hatred has lying lips. He who utters a slander is a fool. 19In the multitude of words there is no lack of disobedience, but he who restrains his lips does wisely. 20The tongue of the righteous is like choice silver. The heart of the wicked is of little worth. 21The lips of the righteous feed many, but the foolish die for lack of understanding. 22Yahweh’s blessing brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it. 23It is a fool’s pleasure to do wickedness, but wisdom is a man of understanding’s pleasure. 24What the wicked fear, will overtake them, but the desire of the righteous will be granted. 25When the whirlwind passes, the wicked is no more; but the righteous stand firm forever. 26As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him. 27The fear of Yahweh prolongs days, but the years of the wicked shall be shortened. 28The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hope of the wicked will perish. 29The way of Yahweh is a stronghold to the upright, but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity. 30The righteous will never be removed, but the wicked will not dwell in the land. 31The mouth of the righteous produces wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut off. 32The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked is perverse.

1De spreuken van Salomo. Een wijs zoon verblijdt den vader; maar een zot zoon is zijner moeder droefheid. 2Schatten der goddeloosheid doen geen nut; maar de gerechtigheid redt van den dood. 3De HEERE laat de ziel des rechtvaardigen niet hongeren; maar de have der goddelozen stoot Hij weg. 4Die met een bedriegelijke hand werkt, wordt arm; maar de hand der vlijtigen maakt rijk. 5Die in den zomer vergadert, is een verstandig zoon; maar die in den oogst vast slaapt, is een zoon die beschaamd maakt. 6Zegeningen zijn op het hoofd des rechtvaardigen; maar het geweld bedekt den mond der goddelozen. 7De gedachtenis des rechtvaardigen zal tot zegening zijn; maar de naam der goddelozen zal verrotten. 8Die wijs van hart is, neemt de geboden aan; maar die dwaas is van lippen, zal omgeworpen worden. 9Die in oprechtheid wandelt, wandelt zeker; maar die zijn wegen verkeert, zal bekend worden. 10Die met het oog wenkt, richt smart aan; en een dwaas van lippen zal omgeworpen worden. 11De mond des rechtvaardigen is een springader des levens; maar het geweld bedekt den mond der goddelozen. 12Haat verwekt krakelen; maar de liefde dekt alle overtredingen toe. 13In de lippen des verstandigen wordt wijsheid gevonden; maar op den rug des verstandelozen de roede. 14De wijzen leggen wetenschap weg; maar den mond des dwazen is de verstoring nabij. 15Des rijken goed is een stad zijner sterkte; de armoede der geringen is hun verstoring. 16Het werk des rechtvaardigen is ten leven; de inkomst des goddelozen is ter zonde. 17Het pad tot het leven is desgenen die de tucht bewaart; maar die de bestraffing verlaat, doet dwalen. 18Die den haat bedekt, is van valse lippen, en die een kwaad gerucht voortbrengt, is een zot. 19In de veelheid der woorden ontbreekt de overtreding niet; maar die zijn lippen wederhoudt, is kloek verstandig. 20De tong des rechtvaardigen is uitgelezen zilver; het hart der goddelozen is weinig waard. 21De lippen des rechtvaardigen voeden er velen; maar de dwazen sterven door gebrek van verstand. 22De zegen des HEEREN, die maakt rijk; en Hij voegt er geen smart bij. 23Het is voor den zot als spel, schandelijkheid te doen; maar voor een man van verstand, wijsheid te plegen. 24De vreze des goddelozen, die zal hem overkomen; maar de begeerte der rechtvaardigen zal God geven. 25Gelijk een wervelwind voorbijgaat, alzo is de goddeloze niet meer; maar de rechtvaardige is een eeuwige grondvest. 26Gelijk edik den tanden, en gelijk rook den ogen is zo is de luie dengenen, die hem uitzenden. 27De vreze des HEEREN vermeerdert de dagen; maar de jaren der goddelozen worden verkort. 28De hoop der rechtvaardigen is blijdschap; maar de verwachting der goddelozen zal vergaan. 29De weg des HEEREN is voor den oprechte sterkte; maar voor de werkers der ongerechtigheid verstoring. 30De rechtvaardige zal in eeuwigheid niet bewogen worden; maar de goddelozen zullen de aarde niet bewonen. 31De mond des rechtvaardigen brengt overvloediglijk wijsheid voort; maar de tong der verkeerdheden zal uitgeroeid worden. 32De lippen des rechtvaardigen weten wat welgevallig is; maar de mond der goddelozen enkel verkeerdheid.
