1Και ήλθεν εις εκ των επτά αγγέλων των εχόντων τας επτά φιάλας, και ελάλησε μετ' εμού, λέγων μοι· Ελθέ, θέλω σοι δείξει την κρίσιν της πόρνης της μεγάλης της καθημένης επί των υδάτων των πολλών, 2μετά της οποίας επόρνευσαν οι βασιλείς της γης και εμεθύσθησαν οι κατοικούντες την γην εκ του οίνου της πορνείας αυτής. 3Και με έφερεν εν πνεύματι εις έρημον. Και είδον γυναίκα καθημένην επί θηρίον κόκκινον, γέμον ονομάτων βλασφημίας, έχον κεφαλάς επτά και κέρατα δέκα. 4Και η γυνή ήτο ενδεδυμένη πορφύραν και κόκκινον και κεχρυσωμένη με χρυσόν και λίθους τιμίους και μαργαρίτας, έχουσα εν τη χειρί αυτής χρυσούν ποτήριον γέμον βδελυγμάτων και ακαθαρσίας της πορνείας αυτής, 5και επί το μέτωπον αυτής ήτο όνομα γεγραμμένον· Μυστήριον, Βαβυλών η μεγάλη, η μήτηρ των πορνών και των βδελυγμάτων της γης. 6Και είδον την γυναίκα μεθύουσαν εκ του αίματος των αγίων και εκ του αίματος των μαρτύρων του Ιησού. Και ιδών αυτήν, εθαύμασα θαυμασμόν μέγαν. 7Και μοι είπεν ο άγγελος. Διά τι εθαύμασας; εγώ θέλω σοι ειπεί το μυστήριον της γυναικός και του θηρίου του βαστάζοντος αυτήν, το οποίον έχει τας επτά κεφαλάς και τα δέκα κέρατα. 8Το θηρίον, το οποίον είδες, ήτο και δεν είναι, και μέλλει να αναβή εκ της αβύσσου και να υπάγη εις απώλειαν· και θέλουσι θαυμάσει οι κατοικούντες επί της γης, των οποίων τα ονόματα δεν είναι γεγραμμένα εν τω βιβλίω της ζωής από καταβολής κόσμου, βλέποντες το θηρίον, το οποίον ήτο και δεν είναι, αν και ήναι. 9Εδώ είναι ο νούς ο έχων σοφίαν. Αι επτά κεφαλαί είναι επτά όρη, όπου η γυνή κάθηται επ' αυτών· 10και είναι επτά βασιλείς· οι πέντε έπεσαν, και ο εις είναι, ο άλλος δεν ήλθεν έτι, και όταν έλθη, ολίγον πρέπει να μείνη. 11Και το θηρίον, το οποίον ήτο και δεν είναι, είναι και αυτός ο όγδοος, και είναι εκ των επτά, και υπάγει εις απώλειαν. 12Και τα δέκα κέρατα, τα οποία είδες, είναι δέκα βασιλείς, οίτινες βασιλείαν δεν έλαβον έτι, αλλά μίαν ώραν λαμβάνουσιν εξουσίαν ως βασιλείς μετά του θηρίου. 13Ούτοι έχουσι μίαν γνώμην και θέλουσι παραδώσει εις το θηρίον την δύναμιν και την εξουσίαν εαυτών. 14Ούτοι θέλουσι πολεμήσει με το Αρνίον, και το Αρνίον θέλει νικήσει αυτούς, διότι είναι Κύριος των κυρίων και Βασιλεύς των βασιλέων, και όσοι είναι μετ' αυτού είναι κλητοί και εκλεκτοί και πιστοί. 15Και μοι λέγει· Τα ύδατα, τα οποία είδες, όπου η πόρνη κάθηται, είναι λαοί και όχλοι και έθνη και γλώσσαι. 16Και τα δέκα κέρατα, τα οποία είδες επί το θηρίον, ούτοι θέλουσι μισήσει την πόρνην και θέλουσι κάμει αυτήν ηρημωμένην και γυμνήν, και τας σάρκας αυτής θέλουσι φάγει, και αυτήν θέλουσι κατακαύσει εν πυρί. 17Διότι ο Θεός έδωκεν εις τας καρδίας αυτών να κάμωσι την γνώμην αυτού, και να γείνωσι της αυτής γνώμης και να δώσωσι την βασιλείαν αυτών εις το θηρίον, εωσού εκτελεσθώσιν οι λόγοι του Θεού. 18Και η γυνή, την οποίαν είδες, είναι η πόλις η μεγάλη, η έχουσα βασιλείαν επί των βασιλέων.

1One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying, “Come here. I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who sits on many waters, 2with whom the kings of the earth committed sexual immorality, and those who dwell in the earth were made drunken with the wine of her sexual immorality.” 3He carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness. I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet-colored animal, full of blasphemous names, having seven heads and ten horns. 4The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of the sexual immorality of the earth. 5And on her forehead a name was written, “MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF THE PROSTITUTES AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.” 6I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. When I saw her, I wondered with great amazement. 7The angel said to me, “Why do you wonder? I will tell you the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns. 8The beast that you saw was, and is not; and is about to come up out of the abyss and to go into destruction. Those who dwell on the earth and whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world will marvel when they see that the beast was, and is not, and shall be present. 9Here is the mind that has wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sits. 10They are seven kings. Five have fallen, the one is, the other has not yet come. When he comes, he must continue a little while. 11The beast that was, and is not, is himself also an eighth, and is of the seven; and he goes to destruction. 12The ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority as kings, with the beast, for one hour. 13These have one mind, and they give their power and authority to the beast. 14These will war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings, and those who are with him are called, chosen, and faithful.” 15He said to me, “The waters which you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and languages. 16The ten horns which you saw, and the beast, these will hate the prostitute, and will make her desolate, and will make her naked, and will eat her flesh, and will burn her utterly with fire. 17For God has put in their hearts to do what he has in mind, and to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God should be accomplished. 18The woman whom you saw is the great city, which reigns over the kings of the earth.”

1En een uit de zeven engelen, die de zeven fiolen hadden, kwam en sprak met mij, en zeide tot mij: Kom herwaarts, ik zal u tonen het oordeel der grote hoer, die daar zit op vele wateren; 2Met welke de koningen der aarde gehoereerd hebben, en die de aarde bewonen zijn dronken geworden van den wijn harer hoererij. 3En hij bracht mij weg in een woestijn, in den geest, en ik zag een vrouw, zittende op een scharlaken rood beest, dat vol was van namen der gods lastering, en had zeven hoofden en tien hoornen. 4En de vrouw was bekleed met purper en scharlaken, en versierd met goud, en kostelijk gesteente, en paarlen, en had in hare hand een gouden drinkbeker, vol van gruwelen, en van onreinigheid harer hoererij. 5En op haar voorhoofd was een naam geschreven, namelijk Verborgenheid; het grote Babylon, de moeder der hoererijen en der gruwelen der aarde. 6En ik zag, dat de vrouw dronken was van het bloed der heiligen, en van het bloed der getuigen van Jezus. En ik verwonderde mij, als ik haar zag, met grote verwondering. 7En de engel zeide tot mij: Waarom verwondert gij u? Ik zal u zeggen de verborgenheid der vrouw en van het beest, dat haar draagt, hetwelk de zeven hoofden heeft en de tien hoornen. 8Het beest, dat gij gezien hebt, was en is niet; en het zal opkomen uit den afgrond, en ten verderve gaan; en die op de aarde wonen, zullen verwonderd zijn (welker namen niet zijn geschreven in het boek des levens van de grondlegging der wereld), ziende het beest, dat was en niet is, hoewel het is. 9Hier is het verstand, dat wijsheid heeft. De zeven hoofden zijn zeven bergen, op welke de vrouw zit. 10En het zijn ook zeven koningen; de vijf zijn gevallen, en de een is, en de ander is nog niet gekomen, en wanneer hij zal gekomen zijn, moet hij een weinig tijds blijven. 11En het beest, dat was en niet is, die is ook de achtste koning, en is uit de zeven en gaat ten verderve. 12En de tien hoornen, die gij gezien hebt, zijn tien koningen, die het koninkrijk nog niet hebben ontvangen, maar als koningen macht ontvangen op een ure met het beest. 13Dezen hebben enerlei mening, en zullen hun kracht en macht het beest overgeven. 14Dezen zullen tegen het Lam krijgen, en het Lam zal hen overwinnen (want Het is een Heere der heren, en een Koning der koningen), en die met Hem zijn, de geroepenen, en uitverkorenen en gelovigen. 15En hij zeide tot mij: De wateren, die gij gezien hebt, waar de hoer zit, zijn volken, en scharen, en natien, en tongen. 16En de tien hoornen, die gij gezien hebt op het beest, die zullen de hoer haten, en zullen haar woest maken, en naakt; en zij zullen haar vlees eten, en zullen haar met vuur verbranden. 17Want God heeft hun in hun harten gegeven, dat zij Zijn mening doen, en dat zij enerlei mening doen, en dat zij hun koninkrijk het beest geven, totdat de woorden Gods voleindigd zullen zijn. 18En de vrouw, die gij gezien hebt, is de grote stad, die het koninkrijk heeft over de koningen der aarde.
