What we keep, and why

Thread wants everyone to be able to read the Bible without being watched. This is everything we keep, in plain words.

Without an account

You can read everything without an account. Then we keep nothing about you on our server.

Your browser does remember a few things on your own device: your theme, kids mode, your stickers, which chapters you opened and how far you are in a reading plan. That stays on your device and is not sent to us. You erase it by deleting this website's data in your browser.

With an account

If you create an account, we keep your e-mail address, the name you give (if you do), when you agreed, and your reading progress: the same lists as above. That way you can carry on on another device.

To keep you signed in we set two cookies: one with a secret key for your session (we only keep a hashed form of it), and one that tells your browser you have an account. They are needed to stay signed in and used for nothing else.

Using a Bible app can say something about your faith. That is sensitive data. We only keep it because you choose to, use it for nothing else, and share it with no one.

Messages and gifts

If you send a message through the contact form, we keep it with your e-mail address until it has been dealt with, so we can reply.

If you give through Thread, Mollie handles the payment; we never see your bank or card details. We keep the amount, and your name, e-mail address and message only if you fill them in.

What we never do

No ads, no tracking, no visitor statistics that follow you, no social media buttons watching along. We sell nothing and pass nothing on.

Where it is kept

The website runs on Vercel, the data is in a database at Neon, e-mails go through Resend and payments through Mollie. Agreements about your data apply with each of them; where we can, we choose servers in the European Union.

Your rights

You can always see what we keep: in 'My account' you download all your data. You can also delete your account there yourself, at once and for good. For any other question, or a complaint, contact us. You can also turn to your data protection authority.

A question about your data? Get in touch.
