1Vậy hỡi người kia, ngươi là ai mặc lòng, hễ đoán xét kẻ khác thì không thể chữa mình được; vì trong khi đoán xét họ, ngươi cũng lên án cho chính mình ngươi nữa, bởi ngươi đoán xét họ, mà cũng làm các việc như họ. 2Vả, Chúng ta biết rằng sự phán xét của Ðức Chúa Trời đối với kẻ làm những việc như thế, là hiệp với lẽ thật. 3Hỡi người đoán xét kẻ phạm những việc dường ấy mà mình cũng phạm kia, vậy ngươi tưởng rằng chính mình ngươi sẽ tránh khỏi sự phán xét của Ðức Chúa Trời sao? 4Hay là ngươi khinh dể sự dư dật của lòng nhơn từ, nhịn nhục, khoan dung Ngài, mà không nhận biết lòng nhơn từ của Ðức Chúa Trời đem ngươi đến sự ăn năn sao? 5Bởi lòng ngươi cứng cỏi, không ăn năn, thì tự chấp chứa cho mình sự giận về ngày thạnh nộ, khi sẽ hiện ra sự phán xét công bình của Ðức Chúa Trời, 6là Ðấng sẽ trả lại cho mỗi người tùy theo công việc họ làm: 7ai bền lòng làm lành, tìm sự vinh hiển, sự tôn trọng và sự chẳng hề chết, thì báo cho sự sống đời đời; 8còn ai có lòng chống trả không vâng phục lẽ thật, mà vâng phục sự không công bình, thì báo cho họ sự giận và cơn thạnh nộ. 9Sự hoạn nạn khốn khó giáng cho mọi người làm ác, trước cho người Giu-đa, sau cho người Gờ-réc; 10nhưng vinh hiển, tôn trọng, cùng sự bình an cho mọi người làm lành, trước cho người Giu-đa, sau cho người Gờ-réc. 11Vì trước mặt Ðức Chúa Trời, chẳng vị nể ai đâu. 12Phàm những kẻ không luật pháp mà phạm tội, cũng sẽ không luật pháp mà hư mất; còn những kẻ có luật pháp mà phạm tội, thì sẽ bị luật pháp đoán xét; 13Vì chẳng phải kẻ nghe đọc luật pháp là người công bình trước mặt Ðức Chúa Trời, bèn là kẻ làm theo luật pháp được xưng công bình vậy. 14Vả, dân ngoại vốn không có luật pháp, khi họ tự nhiên làm những việc luật pháp dạy biểu, thì những người ấy dầu không có luật pháp, cũng tự nên luật pháp cho mình. 15Họ tỏ ra rằng việc mà luật pháp dạy biểu đã ghi trong lòng họ: chính lương tâm mình làm chứng cho luật pháp, còn ý tưởng mình khi thì cáo giác mình, khi thì binh vực mình. 16Ấy là điều sẽ hiện ra trong ngày Ðức Chúa Trời bởi Ðức Chúa Jêsus Christ mà xét đoán những việc kín nhiệm của loài người, y theo Tin Lành tôi. 17Còn ngươi, mang lấy danh người Giu-đa, yên nghỉ trên luật pháp, khoe mình về Ðức Chúa Trời ngươi, 18hiểu ý muốn Ngài và biết phân biệt phải trái, vì ngươi đã được luật pháp dạy; 19khoe mình làm người dẫn đường cho kẻ mù, làm sự sáng cho kẻ ở nơi tối tăm, 20làm thầy kẻ ngu, làm người dạy kẻ tầm thường, trong luật pháp có mẫu mực của sự thông biết và của lẽ thật, 21vậy ngươi dạy dỗ kẻ khác mà không dạy dỗ chính mình ngươi sao! Ngươi giảng rằng chớ nên ăn cắp, mà ngươi ăn cắp! 22Ngươi nói rằng chớ nên phạm tội tà dâm, mà ngươi phạm tội tà dâm! Ngươi gớm ghét hình tượng mà cướp lấy đồ vật của hình tượng! 23Ngươi khoe mình về luật pháp mà bởi luật pháp làm nhục đến Ðức Chúa Trời! 24Vì bởi cớ các ngươi nên danh Ðức Chúa Trời bị nói phạm trong vòng người ngoại, như lời đã chép. 25Thật thế, nếu ngươi làm theo luật pháp, thì phép cắt bì có ích; còn nếu ngươi phạm luật pháp, thì dầu chịu cắt bì cũng như không. 26Vậy nếu kẻ chưa chịu cắt bì giữ các điều răn của luật pháp thì sự chưa chịu cắt bì đó há chẳng cầm như đã chịu sao? 27Kẻ vốn không chịu cắt bì, mà làm trọn luật pháp sẽ đoán xét ngươi, là kẻ dẫu có chữ của luật pháp và phép cắt bì, lại phạm luật pháp. 28Vì người nào chỉ bề ngoài là người Giu-đa, thì không phải là người Giu-đa, còn phép cắt bì làm về xác thịt ở ngoài, thì không phải là phép cắt bì; 29nhưng bề trong là người Giu-đa mới là người Giu-đa, phép cắt bì bởi trong lòng, làm theo cách thiêng liêng, không theo chữ nghĩa, mới là phép cắt bì thật. Một người Giu-đa như vậy được khen ngợi, chẳng phải bởi loài người, bèn là bởi Ðức Chúa Trời.
1Therefore you are without excuse, O man, whoever you are who judge. For in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself. For you who judge practice the same things. 2We know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things. 3Do you think this, O man who judges those who practice such things, and do the same, that you will escape the judgment of God? 4Or do you despise the riches of his goodness, forbearance, and patience, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? 5But according to your hardness and unrepentant heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath, revelation, and of the righteous judgment of God; 6who “will pay back to everyone according to their works:” 7to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory, honor, and incorruptibility, eternal life; 8but to those who are self-seeking, and don’t obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, will be wrath and indignation, 9oppression and anguish, on every soul of man who works evil, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 10But glory, honor, and peace go to every man who works good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 11For there is no partiality with God. 12For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without the law. As many as have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. 13For it isn’t the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be justified 14(for when Gentiles who don’t have the law do by nature the things of the law, these, not having the law, are a law to themselves, 15in that they show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience testifying with them, and their thoughts among themselves accusing or else excusing them) 16in the day when God will judge the secrets of men, according to my Good News, by Jesus Christ. 17Indeed you bear the name of a Jew, and rest on the law, and glory in God, 18and know his will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the law, 19and are confident that you yourself are a guide of the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, 20a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of babies, having in the law the form of knowledge and of the truth. 21You therefore who teach another, don’t you teach yourself? You who preach that a man shouldn’t steal, do you steal? 22You who say a man shouldn’t commit adultery. Do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 23You who glory in the law, through your disobedience of the law do you dishonor God? 24For “the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,” just as it is written. 25For circumcision indeed profits, if you are a doer of the law, but if you are a transgressor of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. 26If therefore the uncircumcised keep the ordinances of the law, won’t his uncircumcision be accounted as circumcision? 27Won’t the uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfills the law, judge you, who with the letter and circumcision are a transgressor of the law? 28For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, neither is that circumcision which is outward in the flesh; 29but he is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit not in the letter; whose praise is not from men, but from God.
1Daarom zijt gij niet te verontschuldigen, o mens, wie gij zijt, die anderen oordeelt; want waarin gij een ander oordeelt, veroordeelt gij uzelven; want gij, die anderen oordeelt, doet dezelfde dingen. 2En wij weten, dat het oordeel Gods naar waarheid is, over degenen, die zulke dingen doen. 3En denkt gij dit, o mens, die oordeelt dengenen, die zulke dingen doen, en dezelve doet, dat gij het oordeel Gods zult ontvlieden? 4Of veracht gij den rijkdom Zijner goedertierenheid, en verdraagzaamheid, en lankmoedigheid, niet wetende, dat de goedertierenheid Gods u tot bekering leidt? 5Maar naar uw hardigheid, en onbekeerlijk hart, vergadert gij uzelven toorn als een schat, in den dag des toorns, en der openbaring van het rechtvaardig oordeel Gods. 6Welke een iegelijk vergelden zal naar zijn werken; 7Dengenen wel, die met volharding in goeddoen, heerlijkheid, en eer, en onverderfelijkheid zoeken, het eeuwige leven; 8Maar dengenen, die twistgierig zijn, en die der waarheid ongehoorzaam, doch der ongerechtigheid gehoorzaam zijn, zal verbolgenheid en toorn vergolden worden; 9Verdrukking en benauwdheid over alle ziel des mensen, die het kwade werkt, eerst van den Jood, en ook van den Griek; 10Maar heerlijkheid, en eer, en vrede een iegelijk, die het goede werkt, eerst den Jood, en ook den Griek. 11Want er is geen aanneming des persoons bij God. 12Want zovelen, als er zonder wet gezondigd hebben, zullen ook zonder wet verloren gaan; en zovelen, als er onder de wet gezondigd hebben, zullen door de wet geoordeeld worden; 13(Want de hoorders der wet zijn niet rechtvaardig voor God, maar de daders der wet zullen gerechtvaardigd worden; 14Want wanneer de heidenen, die de wet niet hebben, van nature de dingen doen, die der wet zijn, dezen, de wet niet hebbende, zijn zichzelven een wet; 15Als die betonen het werk der wet geschreven in hun harten, hun geweten medegetuigende, en de gedachten onder elkander hen beschuldigende, of ook ontschuldigende). 16In den dag wanneer God de verborgene dingen der mensen zal oordelen door Jezus Christus, naar mijn Evangelie. 17Zie, gij wordt een Jood genaamd en rust op de wet; en roemt op God, 18En gij weet Zijn wil, en beproeft de dingen, die daarvan verschillen, zijnde onderwezen uit de wet; 19En gij betrouwt uzelven te zijn een leidsman der blinden, een licht dergenen, die in duisternis zijn; 20Een onderrichter der onwijzen, en een leermeester der onwetenden, hebbende de gedaante der kennis en der waarheid in de wet. 21Die dan een anderen leert, leert gij uzelven niet? Die predikt, dat men niet stelen zal, steelt gij? 22Die zegt, dat men geen overspel doen zal, doet gij overspel? Die van de afgoden een gruwel hebt, berooft gij het heilige? 23Die op de wet roemt, onteert gij God door de overtreding der wet? 24Want de Naam van God wordt om uwentwil gelasterd onder de heidenen, gelijk geschreven is. 25Want de besnijdenis is wel nut, indien gij de wet doet; maar indien gij een overtreder der wet zijt, zo is uw besnijdenis voorhuid geworden. 26Indien dan de voorhuid de rechten der wet bewaart, zal niet zijn voorhuid tot een besnijdenis gerekend worden? 27En zal de voorhuid, die uit de natuur is, als zij de wet volbrengt, u niet oordelen, die door de letter en besnijdenis een overtreder der wet zijt? 28Want die is niet een Jood, die het in het openbaar is; noch die is de besnijdenis, die het in het openbaar in het vlees is; 29Maar die is een Jood, die het in het verborgen is, en de besnijdenis des harten, in den geest, niet in de letter, is de besnijdenis; wiens lof niet is uit de mensen, maar uit God.
