1Nầy là điều mà Chúa Giê-hô-va khiến ta xem thấy: Nầy, Ngài làm nên những cào cào trong lúc cỏ bắt đầu mọc lại; ấy là cỏ mọc lại sau các kỳ cắt cỏ của vua. 2Khi cào cào đã cắn nuốt cỏ trong đất rồi, ta nói rằng: Hỡi Chúa Giê-hô-va, tôi cầu xin Ngài hãy tha thứ! Gia-cốp há có thể đứng được sao? vì nó là nhỏ. 3Ðức Giê-hô-va bèn ăn năn về việc nầy. Ðức Giê-hô-va phán rằng: Ðiều đó sẽ không xảy ra đâu. 4Chúa Giê-hô-va cho ta xem thấy như sau nầy: Nầy, Chúa Giê-hô-va khiến lấy lửa mà chống trả. Lửa ấy thiêu nuốt vực lớn, đoạn hầu ăn nuốt đất. 5Bấy giờ ta nói rằng: Hỡi Chúa Giê-hô-va, tôi cầu xin Ngài hãy thôi đi! Gia-cốp há có thể đứng được sao? vì nó là nhỏ. 6Ðức Giê-hô-va bèn ăn năn việc nầy. Chúa Giê-hô-va phán rằng: Ðiều đó cũng sẽ không xảy đến. 7Ngài bèn cho ta xem thấy như sau nầy: Nầy, Chúa đứng trên một bức tường thẳng nảy mực, và tay Ngài cầm một dây chuẩn mực. 8Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng ta rằng: A-mốt, ngươi thấy gì? Ta thưa rằng: Một dây chuẩn mực. Chúa bèn phán: Nầy, ta sẽ đặt dây chuẩn mực giữa dân Y-sơ-ra-ên ta; ta sẽ không còn đi qua nó nữa. 9Các nơi cao của Y-sác sẽ bị hoang vu, các nơi thánh của Y-sơ-ra-ên sẽ bị hủy phá, và ta sẽ dấy lên dùng gươm đánh nhà Giê-rô-bô-am. 10Bấy giờ, A-ma-xia, thầy tế lễ của Bê-tên, khiến nói cùng Giê-rô-bô-am là vua Y-sơ-ra-ên rằng: A-mốt tập lập nghịch cùng vua, ở giữa nhà Y-sơ-ra-ên; đất chẳng chịu nổi mọi lời của nó. 11Thật vậy, nầy, A-mốt nói rằng: Giê-rô-bô-am sẽ chết bởi gươm, và Y-sơ-ra-ên chắc sẽ bị đày đi làm phu tù khỏi đất mình! 12A-ma-xia nói cùng A-mốt rằng: Hỡi kẻ tiên kiến, khá đi khỏi đây. Hãy trốn trong đất Giu-đa, tại đó ăn bánh và nói tiên tri. 13Nhưng chớ cứ nói tiên tri tại Bê-tên nữa; vì ấy là một nơi thánh của vua, và ấy là nhà vua. 14A-mốt trả lời cho A-ma-xia rằng: Ta không phải là đấng tiên tri, cũng không phải con đấng tiên tri; nhưng ta là một kẻ chăn, sửa soạn những cây vả rừng. 15Ðức Giê-hô-va đã bắt lấy ta từ sau bầy, và Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng ta rằng: Hãy đi nói tiên tri cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên ta. 16Vả, hãy nghe lời của Ðức Giê-hô-va: Ngươi nói rằng: Chớ nói tiên tri nghịch cùng Y-sơ-ra-ên, và đừng nhỏ lời xuống nghịch cùng nhà Y-sác. 17Cho nên Ðức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Vợ ngươi sẽ buông dâm trong thành; con trai và con gái ngươi sẽ ngã bởi gươm; đất ngươi sẽ bị chia bởi dây, còn ngươi, ngươi sẽ chết trong một đất ô uế, và Y-sơ-ra-ên chắc sẽ bị đày đi làm phu tù khỏi đất mình.
1Thus the Lord Yahweh showed me: and behold, he formed locusts in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and behold, it was the latter growth after the king’s harvest. 2When they made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, “Lord Yahweh, forgive, I beg you! How could Jacob stand? For he is small.” 3Yahweh relented concerning this. “It shall not be,” says Yahweh. 4Thus the Lord Yahweh showed me and behold, the Lord Yahweh called for judgment by fire; and it dried up the great deep, and would have devoured the land. 5Then I said, “Lord Yahweh, stop, I beg you! How could Jacob stand? For he is small.” 6Yahweh relented concerning this. “This also shall not be,” says the Lord Yahweh. 7Thus he showed me and behold, the Lord stood beside a wall made by a plumb line, with a plumb line in his hand. 8Yahweh said to me, “Amos, what do you see?” I said, “A plumb line.” Then the Lord said, “Behold, I will set a plumb line in the midst of my people Israel. I will not again pass by them any more. 9The high places of Isaac will be desolate, the sanctuaries of Israel will be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.” 10Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words. 11For Amos says, ‘Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.’” 12Amaziah also said to Amos, “You seer, go, flee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there: 13but don’t prophesy again any more at Bethel; for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a royal house!” 14Then Amos answered Amaziah, “I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was a herdsman, and a farmer of sycamore figs; 15and Yahweh took me from following the flock, and Yahweh said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’ 16Now therefore listen to Yahweh’s word: ‘You say, Don’t prophesy against Israel, and don’t preach against the house of Isaac.’ 17Therefore thus says Yahweh: ‘Your wife shall be a prostitute in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be divided by line; and you yourself shall die in a land that is unclean, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.’”
1De Heere HEERE deed mij aldus zien; en ziet, Hij formeerde sprinkhanen, in het begin des opkomens van het nagras; en ziet, het was het nagras, na des konings afmaaiingen. 2En het geschiedde, als zij het kruid des lands geheel zouden hebben afgegeten, dat ik zeide: Heere HEERE! vergeef toch; wie zou er van Jakob blijven staan; want hij is klein! 3Toen berouwde zulks den HEERE; het zal niet geschieden, zeide de HEERE. 4Wijders deed mij de Heere HEERE aldus zien; en ziet, de Heere HEERE riep uit, dat Hij wilde twisten met vuur; en het verteerde een groten afgrond, ook verteerde het een stuk lands. 5Toen zeide ik: Heere HEERE! houd toch op; wie zou er van Jakob blijven staan; want hij is klein! 6Toen berouwde zulks den HEERE. Ook dit zal niet geschieden, zeide de Heere HEERE. 7Nog deed Hij mij aldus zien; en ziet, de Heere stond op een muur, die naar het paslood gemaakt was, en een paslood was in Zijn hand. 8En de HEERE zeide tot mij: Wat ziet gij, Amos? En ik zeide: Een paslood. Toen zeide de HEERE: Zie, Ik zal het paslood stellen in het midden van Mijn volk Israel; Ik zal het voortaan niet meer voorbijgaan. 9Maar Izaks hoogten zullen verwoest, en Israels eigendommen verstoord worden; en Ik zal tegen Jerobeams huis opstaan met het zwaard. 10Toen zond Amazia, de priester te Beth-El, tot Jerobeam, den koning van Israel, zeggende: Amos heeft een verbintenis tegen u gemaakt, in het midden van het huis Israels; het land zal al zijn woorden niet kunnen verdragen. 11Want alzo zegt Amos: Jerobeam zal door het zwaard sterven, en Israel zal voorzeker uit zijn land gevankelijk worden weggevoerd. 12Daarna zeide Amazia tot Amos: Gij ziener! ga weg, vlied in het land van Juda, en eet aldaar brood, en profeteer aldaar. 13Maar te Beth-El zult gij voortaan niet meer profeteren; want dat is des konings heiligdom, en dat is het huis des koninkrijks. 14Toen antwoordde Amos, en zeide tot Amazia: Ik was geen profeet, en ik was geen profetenzoon; maar ik was een ossenherder, en las wilde vijgen af. 15Maar de HEERE nam mij van achter de kudde; en de HEERE zeide tot mij: Ga henen, profeteer tot Mijn volk Israel. 16Nu dan, hoor des HEEREN woord: Gij zegt: Gij zult niet profeteren tegen Israel, noch druppen tegen het huis van Izak. 17Daarom zegt de HEERE alzo: Uw vrouw zal in de stad hoereren, en uw zonen en uw dochteren zullen door het zwaard vallen, en uw land zal door het snoer uitgedeeld worden; en gij zult in een onrein land sterven, en Israel zal voorzeker uit zijn land gevankelijk worden weggevoerd.
