1Vậy, vì Ðấng Christ đã chịu khổ trong xác thịt, thì anh em cũng phải lấy sự đó làm giáp trụ, vì người nào đã chịu khổ trong xác thịt, thì đã dứt khỏi tội lỗi, 2hầu cho còn sống trong xác thịt bao lâu thì chớ lại theo những sự người ta ưa thích, một phải theo ý muốn Ðức Chúa Trời. 3Ngày trước cũng đã đủ làm theo ý muốn người ngoại đạo rồi, mà ăn ở theo tà tịch, tư dục, say rượu, ăn uống quá độ, chơi bời, và thờ hình tượng đáng gớm ghiếc. 4Họ thấy anh em chẳng cùng họ theo sự dâm dật bậy bạ ấy, thì họ lấy làm lạ và gièm chê. 5Nhưng họ sẽ khai trình với Ðấng đã sẵn sàng xét đoán kẻ sống và kẻ chết. 6Vì ấy bởi điều đó mà Tin Lành cũng đã giảng ra cho kẻ chết, hầu cho sau khi chịu xét đoán theo loài người về phần xác, thì họ được sống theo Ðức Chúa Trời về phần hồn. 7Sự cuối cùng của muôn vật đã gần; vậy hãy khôn ngoan tỉnh thức mà cầu nguyện. 8Nhứt là trong vòng anh em phải có lòng yêu thương sốt sắng; vì sự yêu thương che đậy vô số tội lỗi. 9Người nầy người khác phải tiếp đãi nhau, chớ có cằn rằn. 10Mỗi người trong anh em hãy lấy ơn mình đã được mà giúp lẫn nhau, khác nào người quản lý trung tín giữ các thứ ơn của Ðức Chúa Trời. 11Ví bằng có người giảng luận, thì hãy giảng như rao lời sấm truyền của Ðức Chúa Trời; nếu có kẻ làm chức gì, thì hãy làm như nhờ sức Ðức Chúa Trời ban, hầu cho Ðức Chúa Trời được sáng danh trong mọi sự bởi Ðức Chúa Jêsus Christ; là Ðấng được sự vinh hiển quyền phép đời đời vô cùng. A-men. 12Hỡi kẻ rất yêu dấu, khi anh em bị trong lò lửa thử thách, chớ lấy làm lạ như mình gặp một việc khác thường. 13Nhưng anh em có phần trong sự thương khó của Ðấng Christ bao nhiêu, thì hãy vui mừng bấy nhiêu, hầu cho đến ngày vinh hiển của Ngài hiện ra, thì anh em cũng được vui mừng nhảy nhót. 14Ví bằng anh em vì cớ danh Ðấng Christ chịu sỉ nhục, thì anh em có phước; vì sự vinh hiển và Thánh Linh của Ðức Chúa Trời đậu trên anh em. 15Trong anh em chớ có ai chịu khổ như kẻ giết người, như kẻ trộm cướp, như kẻ hung ác, như kẻ thày lay việc người khác. 16Nhưng nếu có ai vì làm tín đồ Ðấng Christ mà chịu khổ, thì đừng hổ thẹn; thà hãy vì danh ấy ngợi khen Ðức Chúa Trời là hơn. 17Vì thời kỳ đã đến, là khi sự phán xét sẽ khởi từ nhà Ðức Chúa Trời; vả, nếu khởi từ chúng ta, thì sự cuối cùng của những kẻ chẳng vâng theo Tin Lành Ðức Chúa Trời sẽ ra thế nào? 18Lại nếu người công bình còn khó được rỗi, thì những kẻ nghịch đạo và có tội sẽ trở nên thế nào? 19Vậy những kẻ chịu khổ theo ý muốn Ðức Chúa Trời, hãy cứ làm lành mà phó linh hồn mình cho Ðấng Tạo hóa thành tín.
1Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin; 2that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. 3For we have spent enough of our past time doing the desire of the Gentiles, and having walked in lewdness, lusts, drunken binges, orgies, carousings, and abominable idolatries. 4They think it is strange that you don’t run with them into the same excess of riot, blaspheming: 5who will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. 6For to this end the Good News was preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed as men in the flesh, but live as to God in the spirit. 7But the end of all things is near. Therefore be of sound mind, self-controlled, and sober in prayer. 8And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins. 9Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. 10As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms. 11If anyone speaks, let it be as it were the very words of God. If anyone serves, let it be as of the strength which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. 12Beloved, don’t be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you, to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you. 13But because you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory you also may rejoice with exceeding joy. 14If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed; because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. On their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified. 15For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil doer, or a meddler in other men’s matters. 16But if one of you suffers for being a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this matter. 17For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God. If it begins first with us, what will happen to those who don’t obey the Good News of God? 18“If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will happen to the ungodly and the sinner?” 19Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator.
1Dewijl dan Christus voor ons in het vlees geleden heeft, zo wapent gij u ook met dezelfde gedachte, namelijk dat wie in het vlees geleden heeft, die heeft opgehouden van de zonde; 2Om nu niet meer naar de begeerlijkheden der mensen, maar naar den wil van God, den tijd, die overig is in het vlees, te leven. 3Want het is ons genoeg, dat wij den voorgaande tijd des levens der heidenen wil volbracht hebben, en gewandeld hebben in ontuchtigheden, begeerlijkheden, wijnzuiperijen, brasserijen, drinkerijen en gruwelijke afgoderijen; 4Waarin zij zich vreemd houden, als gij niet medeloopt tot dezelfde uitgieting der overdadigheid, en u lasteren; 5Dewelke zullen rekenschap geven Dengene, Die bereid staat om te oordelen de levenden en de doden. 6Want daartoe is ook den doden het Evangelie verkondigd geworden, opdat zij wel zouden geoordeeld worden naar den mens in het vlees, maar leven zouden naar God in den geest. 7En het einde aller dingen is nabij; zijt dan nuchteren, en waakt in de gebeden. 8Maar vooral hebt vurige liefde tot elkander; want de liefde zal menigte van zonden bedekken. 9Zijt herbergzaam jegens elkander, zonder murmureren. 10Een iegelijk, gelijk hij gave ontvangen heeft, alzo bediene hij dezelve aan de anderen, als goede uitdelers der menigerlei genade Gods. 11Indien iemand spreekt, die spreke als de woorden Gods; indien iemand dient, die diene als uit kracht, die God verleent; opdat God in allen geprezen worde door Jezus Christus, Welken toekomt de heerlijkheid en de kracht, in alle eeuwigheid. Amen. 12Geliefden, houdt u niet vreemd over de hitte der verdrukking onder u, die u geschiedt tot verzoeking, alsof u iets vreemds overkwame; 13Maar gelijk gij gemeenschap hebt aan het lijden van Christus, alzo verblijdt u; opdat gij ook in de openbaring Zijner heerlijkheid u moogt verblijden en verheugen. 14Indien gij gesmaad wordt om den Naam van Christus, zo zijt gij zalig; want de Geest der heerlijkheid, en de Geest van God rust op u. Wat hen aangaat, Hij wordt wel gelasterd, maar wat u aangaat, Hij wordt verheerlijkt. 15Doch dat niemand van u lijde als een doodslager, of dief, of kwaaddoener, of als een, die zich met eens anders doen bemoeit; 16Maar indien iemand lijdt als een Christen, die schame zich niet, maar verheerlijke God in dezen dele. 17Want het is de tijd, dat het oordeel beginne van het huis Gods; en indien het eerst van ons begint, welk zal het einde zijn dergenen, die het Evangelie van God ongehoorzaam zijn? 18En indien de rechtvaardige nauwelijks zalig wordt, waar zal de goddeloze en zondaar verschijnen? 19Zo dan ook die lijden naar den wil van God, dat zij hun zielen Hem, als den getrouwen Schepper, bevelen met weldoen.
