1Para todas as coisas há um tempo determinado, e todo propósito abaixo do céu tem seu tempo. 2Tempo de nascer e tempo de morrer; tempo de plantar e tempo de arrancar o que foi plantado. 3Tempo de matar e tempo de curar; tempo de derrubar e tempo de construir. 4Tempo de chorar e tempo de rir; tempo de lamentar, e tempo de saltar. 5Tempo de espalhar pedras e tempo de juntar pedras; tempo de abraçar e tempo de evitar abraçar. 6Tempo de buscar e tempo de perder; tempo de guardar e tempo de jogar fora. 7Tempo de rasgar e tempo de costurar; tempo de ficar calado e tempo de falar. 8Tempo de amar e tempo de odiar; tempo de guerra e tempo de paz. 9Que proveito tem o trabalhador naquilo em que ele trabalha? 10Tenho visto a ocupação que Deus deu aos filhos dos homens, para com ela os manter ocupados. 11Tudo ele fez belo ao seu tempo; também pôs a sensação de eternidade no coração deles, sem que o homem consiga entender a obra que Deus fez, desde o princípio até o fim. 12Tenho percebido que não há coisa melhor para eles do que se alegrarem e fazerem o bem em suas vidas; 13E também que todo homem coma, beba e fique contente com todo o seu trabalho; isto é um presente de Deus. 14Eu sei que tudo quanto Deus faz durará para sempre; a isso nada será acrescentado e nada será diminuído; e Deus faz assim para que haja temor perante sua presença. 15O que tem sido agora, já foi antes; e o que vier a ser também já foi; Deus busca de volta o que foi passado. 16Vi mais abaixo do sol: que no lugar do juízo havia ali perversidade; e que no lugar da justiça havia ali perversidade. 17Eu disse em meu coração: Deus julgará ao justo e ao perverso, porque ali há tempo para todo propósito e para toda obra. 18Eu disse em meu coração quanto aos filhos dos homens, que Deus lhes provaria, para lhes mostrar que eles são como animais. 19Porque o que acontece aos filhos dos homens, isso mesmo também acontece aos animais; o mesmo acontece a eles todos ; assim como um morre, assim também morre o outro; e todos tem uma mesma respiração; e a vantagem dos homens sobre os animais é nenhuma, pois todos são fúteis. 20Todos vão a um mesmo lugar; todos vieram do pó da terra , e todos voltarão ao pó. 21Quem tem certeza de que o fôlego de vida dos homens sobe para cima, e que o fôlego de vida dos animais desce para debaixo da terra? 22Por isso tenho visto que não há coisa melhor do que o homem se alegrar de suas obras, porque essa é a parte que lhe pertence; pois quem pode levá-lo a ver o que será depois de sua morte ?
1For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven: 2a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; 3a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; 7a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace. 9What profit has he who works in that in which he labors? 10I have seen the burden which God has given to the sons of men to be afflicted with. 11He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in their hearts, yet so that man can’t find out the work that God has done from the beginning even to the end. 12I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice, and to do good as long as they live. 13Also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy good in all his labor, is the gift of God. 14I know that whatever God does, it shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it; and God has done it, that men should fear before him. 15That which is has been long ago, and that which is to be has been long ago: and God seeks again that which is passed away. 16Moreover I saw under the sun, in the place of justice, that wickedness was there; and in the place of righteousness, that wickedness was there. 17I said in my heart, “God will judge the righteous and the wicked; for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.” 18I said in my heart, “As for the sons of men, God tests them, so that they may see that they themselves are like animals. 19For that which happens to the sons of men happens to animals. Even one thing happens to them. As the one dies, so the other dies. Yes, they have all one breath; and man has no advantage over the animals: for all is vanity. 20All go to one place. All are from the dust, and all turn to dust again. 21Who knows the spirit of man, whether it goes upward, and the spirit of the animal, whether it goes downward to the earth?” 22Therefore I saw that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his works; for that is his portion: for who can bring him to see what will be after him?
1Alles heeft een bestemden tijd, en alle voornemen onder den hemel heeft zijn tijd. 2Er is een tijd om geboren te worden, en een tijd om te sterven; een tijd om te planten, en een tijd om het geplante uit te roeien; 3Een tijd om om te doden, en een tijd om te genezen; een tijd om af te breken, en een tijd om te bouwen; 4Een tijd om te wenen, en een tijd om te lachen; een tijd om te kermen, en een tijd om op te springen; 5Een tijd om stenen weg te werpen, en een tijd om stenen te vergaderen; een tijd om te omhelzen, en een tijd om verre te zijn van omhelzen; 6Een tijd om te zoeken, en een tijd om verloren te laten gaan; een tijd om te bewaren, en een tijd om weg te werpen; 7Een tijd om te scheuren, en een tijd om toe te naaien; een tijd om te zwijgen, en een tijd om te spreken; 8Een tijd om lief te hebben, en een tijd om te haten; een tijd van oorlog, en een tijd van vrede. 9Wat voordeel heeft hij, die werkt, van hetgeen hij arbeidt? 10Ik heb gezien de bezigheid, die God den kinderen der mensen gegeven heeft, om zichzelven daarmede te bekommeren. 11Hij heeft ieder ding schoon gemaakt op zijn tijd; ook heeft Hij de eeuw in hun hart gelegd, zonder dat een mens het werk, dat God gemaakt heeft, kan uitvinden, van het begin tot het einde toe. 12Ik heb gemerkt, dat er niets beters voor henlieden is, dan zich te verblijden, en goed te doen in zijn leven. 13Ja ook, dat ieder mens ete en drinke, en het goede geniete van al zijn arbeid, Dit is een gave Gods. 14Ik weet, dat al wat God doet, dat zal in der eeuwigheid zijn, en er is niet toe te doen, noch is er af te doen; en God doet dat, opdat men vreze voor Zijn aangezicht. 15Hetgeen geweest is, dat is nu, en wat wezen zal, dat is alrede geweest; en God zoekt het weggedrevene. 16Verder heb ik ook gezien onder de zon, ter plaatse des gerichts, aldaar was goddeloosheid; en ter plaatse der gerechtigheid, aldaar was goddeloosheid. 17Ik zeide in mijn hart: God zal den rechtvaardige en den goddeloze oordelen; want aldaar is de tijd voor alle voornemen, en over alle werk. 18Ik zeide in mijn hart van de positie der mensenkinderen, dat God hen zal verklaren, en dat zij zullen zien, dat zij als de beesten zijn aan zichzelven. 19Want wat den kinderen der mensen wedervaart, dat wedervaart ook den beesten; en enerlei wedervaart hun beiden; gelijk die sterft, alzo sterft deze, en zij allen hebben enerlei adem, en de uitnemendheid der mensen boven de beesten is geen; want allen zijn zij ijdelheid. 20Zij gaan allen naar een plaats; zij zijn allen uit het stof, en zij keren allen weder tot het stof. 21Wie merkt, dat de adem van de kinderen der mensen opvaart naar boven, en de adem der beesten nederwaarts vaart in de aarde? 22Dies ik gezien heb, dat er niets beters is, dan dat de mens zich verblijde in zijn werken, want dat is zijn deel; want wie zal hem daarhenen brengen, dat hij ziet, hetgeen na hem geschieden zal?
