1Efraim se alimenta de vento, e persegue o vento oriental o dia todo; multiplica a mentira e a destruição; e fazem aliança com a Assíria, e azeite se leva ao Egito. 2O SENHOR também tem uma briga judicial com Judá, e punirá Jacó conforme seus caminhos; ele lhe retribuirá conforme seus atos. 3No ventre da mãe pegou pelo calcanhar de seu irmão, e em sua força lutou com Deus. 4Lutou com o anjo, e prevaleceu; chorou, e lhe suplicou; em Betel o achou, e ali falou conosco. 5O próprio SENHOR, Deus dos exércitos; o SENHOR é seu memorial. 6Tu pois, converte-te a teu Deus; guarda tu a misericórdia e a justiça, e espera em teu Deus continuamente. 7O mercador tem balança enganosa em sua mão, pois ama oprimir. 8E Efraim diz: Certamente eu sou rico; tenho obtido para mim muitos bens; em todo o meu trabalho ninguém pode achar em mim perversidade que seja pecado. 9Porém eu sou o SENHOR teu Deus, desde a terra do Egito; eu ainda te farei morar em tendas, como nos dias solenes. 10E falei aos profetas, e eu multipliquei a visão profética; e por meio dos profetas propus parábolas. 11Visto que Gileade é injusta, certamente seus moradores são inúteis. Em Gilgal sacrificam bois, e até seus altares são como amontoados de pedras nos sulcos dos campos. 12Mas Jacó fugiu à terra de Arã, e Israel serviu em troca de uma mulher, e por uma mulher apascentou ovelhas . 13Mas o SENHOR por um profeta fez subir a Israel do Egito, e por um profeta foi preservado. 14Porém Efraim o ofendeu amargamente; por isso deixará a culpa de seus sangues sobre ele, e seu Senhor lhe retribuirá sua desonra.
1Ephraim feeds on wind, and chases the east wind. He continually multiplies lies and desolation. They make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt. 2Yahweh also has a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his deeds he will repay him. 3In the womb he took his brother by the heel; and in his manhood he contended with God. 4Indeed, he struggled with the angel, and prevailed; he wept, and made supplication to him. He found him at Bethel, and there he spoke with us, 5even Yahweh, the God of Armies; Yahweh is his name of renown! 6Therefore turn to your God. Keep kindness and justice, and wait continually for your God. 7A merchant has dishonest scales in his hand. He loves to defraud. 8Ephraim said, “Surely I have become rich, I have found myself wealth. In all my wealth they won’t find in me any iniquity that is sin.” 9“But I am Yahweh your God from the land of Egypt. I will yet again make you dwell in tents, as in the days of the solemn feast. 10I have also spoken to the prophets, and I have multiplied visions; and by the ministry of the prophets I have used parables. 11If Gilead is wicked, surely they are worthless. In Gilgal they sacrifice bulls. Indeed, their altars are like heaps in the furrows of the field. 12Jacob fled into the country of Aram, and Israel served to get a wife, and for a wife he tended flocks and herds. 13By a prophet Yahweh brought Israel up out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was preserved. 14Ephraim has bitterly provoked anger. Therefore his blood will be left on him, and his Lord will repay his contempt.
1Efraim weidt zich met wind, en jaagt den oostenwind na; den gansen dag vermenigvuldigt hij leugen en verwoesting; en zij maken verbond met Assur, en de olie wordt naar Egypte gevoerd. 2Ook heeft de HEERE een twist met Juda, en Hij zal bezoeking doen over Jakob naar zijn wegen, naar zijn handelingen zal Hij hem vergelden. 3In moeders buik hield hij zijn broeder bij de verzenen; en in zijn kracht gedroeg hij zich vorstelijk met God. 4Ja, hij gedroeg zich vorstelijk tegen den Engel, en overmocht Hem; hij weende en smeekte Hem. Te Beth-el vond hij Hem, en aldaar sprak Hij met ons; 5Namelijk, de HEERE, de God der heirscharen; HEERE is Zijn gedenknaam. 6Gij dan, bekeer u tot uw God, bewaar weldadigheid en recht, en wacht geduriglijk op uw God. 7In des koopmans hand is een bedriegelijke weegschaal, hij bemint te verdrukken; 8Nog zegt Efraim: Evenwel ben ik rijk geworden, ik heb mij groot goed verkregen; in al mijn arbeid zullen zij mij geen ongerechtigheid vinden, die zonde zij. 9Maar Ik ben de HEERE, uw God, van Egypteland af; Ik zal u nog in tenten doen wonen, als in de dagen der samenkomst; 10En Ik zal spreken tot de profeten, en Ik zal het gezicht vermenigvuldigen; en door den dienst der profeten zal Ik gelijkenissen voorstellen. 11Zekerlijk is Gilead ongerechtigheid, zij zijn enkel ijdelheid; te Gilgal offeren zij ossen, ja, hun altaren zijn als steen hopen op de voren der velden. 12Jakob vlood toch naar het veld van Syrie, en Israel diende om een vrouw, en hoedde om een vrouw. 13Maar de HEERE voerde Israel op uit Egypte door een profeet, en door een profeet werd hij gehoed. 14Efraim daarentegen heeft Hem zeer bitterlijk vertoornd; daarom zal Hij zijn bloed op hem laten, en zijn Heere zal hem zijn smaad vergelden.
