1Ora irmãos, nós vos rogamos quanto à vinda de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, e à nossa reunião com ele, 2Que vós não vos abaleis facilmente em vosso entendimento, e não vos perturbeis, nem por espírito, nem por palavra, nem por carta como que escrita por nós, como se o dia de Cristo já estivesse perto. 3Ninguém vos engane em maneira nenhuma; porque não virá esse dia sem que primeiro venha a apostasia, e se manifeste o homem da injustiça, o filho da perdição. 4O qual se opõe e se levanta sobre tudo o que se chama Deus, ou sobre tudo que é adorado; por isso ele se sentará no templo de Deus, fazendo-se parecer Deus. 5Não vos lembrais, que enquanto ainda estava convosco, eu vos dizia estas coisas? 6E agora sabeis o que o detém, para que a seu próprio tempo seja manifestado. 7Porque o mistério da injustiça já opera; só há aquele que agora o detém, até que seja tirado do meio. 8E então será manifestado aquele injusto, ao qual o Senhor destruirá, pelo sopro de sua boca, e o aniquilará pelo aparecimento de sua vinda; 9Aquele injusto cuja vinda é conforme o agir de Satanás, com todo poder, e sinais, e milagres falsos. 10E com todo engano de injustiça nos que perecem; porque não receberam o amor da verdade para se salvarem. 11E por isso Deus lhes enviará a ação do erro, para que creiam na mentira. 12Para que sejam condenados todos os que não creram na verdade, mas tiveram prazer na injustiça. 13Mas sempre devemos dar graças a Deus por vós, irmãos, que sois amados pelo Senhor, pois Deus vos escolheu desde o princípio para a salvação, em santificação do Espírito, e fé na verdade; 14Para a qual ele vos chamou por meio do nosso Evangelho, para a obtenção da glória de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo. 15Portanto, irmãos, ficai firmes, e retende as tradições que vos foram ensinadas, seja por palavra, seja por carta nossa. 16E ele mesmo, o nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, e nosso Deus e Pai, que nos amou e em graça nos deu uma eterna consolação e boa esperança; 17Ele console vossos corações, e vos fortaleça em toda boa palavra e obra.
1Now, brothers, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together to him, we ask you 2not to be quickly shaken in your mind, nor yet be troubled, either by spirit, or by word, or by letter as from us, saying that the day of Christ had come. 3Let no one deceive you in any way. For it will not be, unless the departure comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of destruction, 4he who opposes and exalts himself against all that is called God or that is worshiped; so that he sits as God in the temple of God, setting himself up as God. 5Don’t you remember that, when I was still with you, I told you these things? 6Now you know what is restraining him, to the end that he may be revealed in his own season. 7For the mystery of lawlessness already works. Only there is one who restrains now, until he is taken out of the way. 8Then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will kill with the breath of his mouth, and destroy by the manifestation of his coming; 9even he whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10and with all deception of wickedness for those who are being lost, because they didn’t receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11Because of this, God sends them a working of error, that they should believe a lie; 12that they all might be judged who didn’t believe the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 13But we are bound to always give thanks to God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief in the truth; 14to which he called you through our Good News, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15So then, brothers, stand firm, and hold the traditions which you were taught by us, whether by word, or by letter. 16Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, 17comfort your hearts and establish you in every good work and word.
1En wij bidden u, broeders, door de toekomst van onzen Heere Jezus Christus, en onze toevergadering tot Hem, 2Dat gij niet haastelijk bewogen wordt van verstand, of verschrikt, noch door geest, noch door woord, noch door zendbrief, als van ons geschreven, alsof de dag van Christus aanstaande ware. 3Dat u niemand verleide op enigerlei wijze; want die komt niet, tenzij dat eerst de afval gekomen zij, en dat geopenbaard zij de mens der zonde, de zoon des verderfs; 4Die zich tegenstelt, en verheft boven al wat God genaamd, of als God geeerd wordt, alzo dat hij in den tempel Gods als een God zal zitten, zichzelven vertonende, dat hij God is. 5Gedenkt gij niet, dat ik, nog bij u zijnde, u deze dingen gezegd heb? 6En nu, wat hem wederhoudt, weet gij, opdat hij geopenbaard worde te zijner eigen tijd. 7Want de verborgenheid der ongerechtigheid wordt alrede gewrocht; alleenlijk, Die hem nu wederhoudt, Die zal hem wederhouden, totdat hij uit het midden zal weggedaan worden. 8En alsdan zal de ongerechtige geopenbaard worden, denwelken de Heere verdoen zal door den Geest Zijns monds, en te niet maken door de verschijning Zijner toekomst; 9Hem, zeg ik, wiens toekomst is naar de werking des satans, in alle kracht, en tekenen, en wonderen der leugen; 10En in alle verleiding der onrechtvaardigheid in degenen, die verloren gaan; daarvoor dat zij de liefde der waarheid niet aangenomen hebben, om zalig te worden. 11En daarom zal God hun zenden een kracht der dwaling, dat zij de leugen zouden geloven; 12Opdat zij allen veroordeeld worden, die de waarheid niet geloofd hebben, maar een welbehagen hebben gehad in de ongerechtigheid. 13Maar wij zijn schuldig altijd God te danken over u, broeders, die van den Heere bemind zijt, dat u God van den beginne verkoren heeft tot zaligheid, in heiligmaking des Geestes, en geloof der waarheid; 14Waartoe Hij u geroepen heeft door ons Evangelie, tot verkrijging der heerlijkheid van onzen Heere Jezus Christus. 15Zo dan, broeders, staat vast en houdt de inzettingen, die u geleerd zijn, hetzij door ons woord, hetzij door onzen zendbrief. 16En onze Heere Jezus Christus Zelf, en onze God en Vader, Die ons heeft liefgehad, en gegeven heeft een eeuwige vertroosting en goede hoop in genade, 17Vertrooste uw harten, en versterke u in alle goed woord en werk.
