1Os filisteus guerrearam contra Israel; e os homens de Israel fugiram diante deles, e caíram feridos no monte de Gilboa. 2E os filisteus perseguiram a Saul e a seus filhos; e os filisteus mataram Jônatas, Abinadabe, e Malquisua, filhos de Saul. 3E a batalha se dificultou sobre Saul; os flecheiros o alcançaram, e ele foi ferido pelos flecheiros. 4Então Saul disse a seu escudeiro: Tira a tua espada, e atravessa-me com ela, para que não aconteça que estes incircuncisos venham, e escarneçam de mim.Porém seu escudeiro não quis, porque tinha muito medo. Então Saul tomou a espada, e se lançou sobre ela. 5E quando seu escudeiro viu que Saul estava morto, ele também se lançou sobre sua espada, e morreu. 6Assim Saul e seus três filhos morreram; e toda a sua casa morreu juntamente com ele. 7E quando todos os homens de Israel que estavam no vale viram que o exército havia fugido, e que Saul e seus filhos estavam mortos, deixaram suas cidades, e fugiram; então os filisteus vieram, e habitaram nelas. 8E no dia seguinte, quando os Filisteus vieram para despojar os mortos, acharam Saul e seus filhos estendidos no monte de Gilboa. 9Então o despiram, tomaram sua cabeça e suas armas, e as enviaram por toda a terra dos filisteus para anunciarem a seus ídolos e ao povo. 10E puseram suas armas no templo de seu deus, e colocaram sua cabeça no templo de Dagom. 11E quando todos os de Jabes-Gileade ouviram tudo quanto filisteus haviam feito a Saul, 12Todos os homens valentes se levantaram, tomaram o corpo de Saul e os corpos de seus filhos, e os trouxeram a Jabes; e sepultaram seus ossos debaixo de um carvalho em Jabes, e jejuaram durante sete dias. 13Assim Saul morreu por sua transgressão com que havia transgredido contra o SENHOR, por causa da palavra do SENHOR, a qual ele não obedeceu; e por ter buscado à médium para lhe consultar, 14E não ter buscado ao SENHOR. Por isso ele o matou, e passou o reino a Davi, filho de Jessé.
1Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on Mount Gilboa. 2The Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul. 3The battle went hard against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was distressed by reason of the archers. 4Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me.” But his armor bearer would not; for he was terrified. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell on it. 5When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword, and died. 6So Saul died, and his three sons; and all his house died together. 7When all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and lived in them. 8On the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. 9They stripped him, and took his head, and his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines all around, to carry the news to their idols, and to the people. 10They put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon. 11When all Jabesh Gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul, 12all the valiant men arose, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days. 13So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against Yahweh, because of Yahweh’s word, which he didn’t keep; and also because he asked counsel of one who had a familiar spirit, to inquire, 14and didn’t inquire of Yahweh: therefore he killed him, and turned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.
1En de Filistijnen streden tegen Israel, en de mannen van Israel vloden voor het aangezicht der Filistijnen, en zij vielen verslagen op het gebergte Gilboa. 2En de Filistijnen hielden dicht achter Saul aan en achter zijn zonen; en de Filistijnen sloegen Jonathan, en Abinadab, en Malchi-sua, de zonen van Saul. 3En de strijd werd zwaar tegen Saul, en de schutters met de bogen troffen hem aan; en hij vreesde zeer voor de schutters. 4Toen zeide Saul tot zijn wapendrager: Trek uw zwaard uit en doorsteek mij daarmede, dat misschien deze onbesnedenen niet komen, en met mij den spot drijven. Maar zijn wapendrager wilde niet, want hij vreesde zeer. Toen nam Saul het zwaard, en viel daarin. 5Toen zijn wapendrager zag, dat Saul dood was, zo viel hij ook in het zwaard en stierf. 6Alzo stierf Saul en zijn drie zonen; ook zijn ganse huis is tegelijk gestorven. 7Als al de mannen van Israel, die in het dal waren, zagen, dat zij gevloden waren, en dat Saul en zijn zonen dood waren, zo verlieten zij hun steden, en zij vloden. Toen kwamen de Filistijnen en woonden daarin. 8Het geschiedde nu des anderen daags, als de Filistijnen kwamen om de verslagenen te plunderen, zo vonden zij Saul en zijn zonen, liggende op het gebergte Gilboa. 9En zij plunderden hem, en zij namen zijn hoofd en zijn wapenen, en zij zonden ze in der Filistijnen land rondom, om dit te boodschappen aan hun afgoden, en aan het volk. 10En zij legden zijn wapenen in het huis huns gods; en zijn hoofd hechtten zij in het huis van Dagon. 11Als geheel Jabes in Gilead hoorde alles, wat de Filistijnen Saul gedaan hadden, 12Zo maakten zich alle strijdbare mannen op, en zij namen het lichaam van Saul, en de lichamen zijner zonen, en zij brachten ze te Jabes; en zij begroeven hun beenderen onder een eikenboom te Jabes, en zij vastten zeven dagen. 13Alzo stierf Saul, in zijn overtreding, waarmede hij overtreden had tegen den HEERE, tegen het woord des HEEREN hetwelk hij niet gehouden had; en ook omdat hij de waarzegster gevraagd had, haar zoekende, 14En den HEERE niet gezocht had; daarom doodde Hij hem, en keerde het koninkrijk tot David, den zoon van Isai.
