1지혜가 그 집을 짓고 일곱 기둥을 다듬고 2짐승을 잡으며 포도주를 혼합하여 상을 갖추고 3그 여종을 보내어 성중 높은 곳에서 불러 이르기를 4무릇 어리석은 자는 이리로 돌이키라 또 지혜 없는 자에게 이르기를 5너는 와서 내 식물을 먹으며 내 혼합한 포도주를 마시고 6어리석음을 버리고 생명을 얻으라 명철의 길을 행하라 하느니라 7거만한 자를 징계하는 자는 도리어 능욕을 받고 악인을 책망하는 자는 도리어 흠을 잡히느니라 8거만한 자를 책망하지 말라 그가 너를 미워할까 두려우니라 지혜있는 자를 책망하라 그가 너를 사랑하리라 9지혜 있는 자에게 교훈을 더하라 그가 더욱 지혜로워질 것이요 의로운 사람을 가르치라 그의 학식이 더하리라 10여호와를 경외하는 것이 지혜의 근본이요 거룩하신 자를 아는 것이 명철이니라 11나 지혜로 말미암아 네 날이 많아질 것이요 네 생명의 해가 더하리라 12네가 만일 지혜로우면 그 지혜가 네게 유익할 것이나 네가 만일 거만하면 너 홀로 해를 당하리라 13미련한 계집이 떠들며 어리석어서 아무 것도 알지 못하고 14자기 집 문에 앉으며 성읍 높은 곳에 있는 자리에 앉아서 15자기 길을 바로 가는 행객을 불러 이르되 16무릇 어리석은 자는 이리로 돌이키라 또 지혜 없는 자에게 이르기를 17도적질한 물이 달고 몰래 먹는 떡이 맛이 있다 하는도다 18오직 그 어리석은 자는 죽은 자가 그의 곳에 있는 것과 그의 객들이 음부 깊은 곳에 있는 것을 알지 못하느니라
1Wisdom has built her house. She has carved out her seven pillars. 2She has prepared her meat. She has mixed her wine. She has also set her table. 3She has sent out her maidens. She cries from the highest places of the city: 4“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” As for him who is void of understanding, she says to him, 5“Come, eat some of my bread, Drink some of the wine which I have mixed! 6Leave your simple ways, and live. Walk in the way of understanding.” 7He who corrects a mocker invites insult. He who reproves a wicked man invites abuse. 8Don’t reprove a scoffer, lest he hate you. Reprove a wise man, and he will love you. 9Instruct a wise man, and he will be still wiser. Teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning. 10The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. The knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. 11For by me your days will be multiplied. The years of your life will be increased. 12If you are wise, you are wise for yourself. If you mock, you alone will bear it. 13The foolish woman is loud, Undisciplined, and knows nothing. 14She sits at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city, 15To call to those who pass by, who go straight on their ways, 16“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here.” as for him who is void of understanding, she says to him, 17“Stolen water is sweet. Food eaten in secret is pleasant.” 18But he doesn’t know that the departed spirits are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.

Tot de verstandeloze zegt Zij: 5Komt, eet van Mijn brood, en drinkt van den wijn, dien Ik gemengd heb. 6Verlaat de slechtigheden, en leeft; en treedt in den weg des verstands. 7Wie den spotter tuchtigt, behaalt zich schande; en die den goddeloze bestraft, zijn schandvlek. 8Bestraf den spotter niet, opdat hij u niet hate; bestraf den wijze, en hij zal u liefhebben. 9Leer den wijze, zo zal hij nog wijzer worden; onderwijs den rechtvaardige, zo zal hij in leer toenemen. 10De vreze des HEEREN is het beginsel der wijsheid, en de wetenschap der heiligen is verstand. 11Want door Mij zullen uw dagen vermenigvuldigen, en de jaren des levens zullen u toegedaan worden. 12Indien gij wijs zijt, gij zijt wijs voor uzelven; en zijt gij een spotter, gij zult het alleen dragen. 13Een zotte vrouw is woelachtig, de slechtigheid zelve, en weet niet met al. 14En zij zit aan de deur van haar huis, op een stoel, op de hoge plaatsen der stad; 15Om te roepen degenen, die op den weg voorbijgaan, die hun paden recht maken, zeggende: 16Wie is slecht? Hij kere zich herwaarts; en tot den verstandeloze zegt zij: 17De gestolen wateren zijn zoet, en het verborgen brood is liefelijk. 18Maar hij weet niet, dat aldaar doden zijn; haar genoden zijn in de diepten der hel.
