1유다 왕 요시야의 아들 여호야김 사년에 여호와께로서 예레미야에게 말씀이 임하니라 가라사대 2너는 두루마리 책을 취하여 내가 네게 말하던 날 곧 요시야의 날부터 오늘까지 이스라엘과 유다와 열방에 대하여 나의 네게 이른 모든 말을 그것에 기록하라 3유다 족속이 내가 그들에게 내리려한 모든 재앙을 듣고 각기 악한 길에서 돌이킬듯 하니라 그리하면 내가 그 악과 죄를 사하리라 4이에 예레미야가 네리야의 아들 바룩을 부르매 바룩이 예레미야의 구전대로 여호와께서 그에게 이르신 모든 말씀을 두루마리 책에 기록하니라 5예레미야가 바룩을 명하여 가로되 나는 감금을 당한지라 여호와의 집에 들어갈 수 없은즉 6너는 들어가서 나의 구전대로 두루마리에 기록한 여호와의 말씀을 금식일에 여호와의 집에 있는 백성의 귀에 낭독하고 유다 모든 성에서 온 자들의 귀에도 낭독하라 7그들이 여호와 앞에 기도를 드리며 각기 악한 길을 떠날듯 하니라 여호와께서 이 백성에 대하여 선포하신 노와 분이 크니라 8네리야의 아들 바룩이 무릇 선지자 예레미야의 자기에게 명한 대로 하여 여호와의 집에서 책에 있는 여호와의 말씀을 낭독하니라 9유다 왕 요시야의 아들 여호야김의 오년 구월에 예루살렘 모든 백성과 유다 성읍들에서 예루살렘에 이른 모든 백성이 여호와 앞에서 금식을 선포한지라 10바룩이 여호와의 집 윗뜰 곧 여호와의 집 새문 어귀의 곁에 있는 사반의 아들 서기관 그마랴의 방에서 그 책에 있는 예레미야의 말을 낭독하여 모든 백성에게 들리니라 11사반의 손자요 그마랴의 아들인 미가야가 그 책에 있는 여호와의 말씀을 다 듣고 12왕궁에 내려가서 서기관의 방에 들어가니 모든 방백 곧 서기관 엘리사마와 스마야의 아들 들라야와 악볼의 아들 엘라단과 사반의 아들 그마랴와 하나냐의 아들 시드기야와 모든 방백이 거기 앉았는지라 13미가야가 바룩의 백성의 귀에 책을 낭독할 때에 들은 모든 말로 그들에게 고하매 14이에 모든 방백이 구시의 증손 셀레먀의 손자 느다냐의 아들 여후디를 바룩에게 보내어 이르되 너는 백성의 귀에 낭독한 두루마리를 손에 가지고 오라 네리야의 아들 바룩이 두루마리를 손에 가지고 그들에게로 가매 15그들이 바룩에게 이르되 앉아서 이를 귀에 낭독하라 바룩이 그들 귀에 낭독하매 16그들이 그 모든 말씀을 듣고 놀라서 서로 보며 바룩에게 이르되 우리가 이 모든 말을 왕에게 고하리라 17그들이 또 바룩에게 물어 가로되 네가 그 구전하는 이 모든 말을 어떻게 기록하였느뇨 청컨대 우리에게 이르라 18바룩이 대답하되 그가 그 입으로 이 모든 말을 내게 베풀기로 내가 먹으로 책에 기록하였노라 19이에 방백들이 바룩에게 이르되 너는 가서 예레미야와 함께 숨고 너희 있는 곳을 사람에게 알리지 말라 하니라 20그들이 두루마리를 서기관 엘리사마의 방에 두고 뜰에 들어가 왕께 나아가서 이 모든 말로 왕의 귀에 고하니 21왕이 여후디를 보내어 두루마리를 가져오게 하매 여후디가 서기관 엘리사마의 방에서 가져다가 왕과 왕의 곁에 선 모든 방백의 귀에 낭독하니 22때는 구월이라 왕이 겨울궁전에 앉았고 그 앞에는 불 피운 화로가 있더라 23여후디가 삼편 사편을 낭독하면 왕이 소도로 그것을 연하여 베어 화로 불에 던져서 온 두루마리를 태웠더라 24왕과 그 신하들이 이 모든 말을 듣고도 두려워하거나 그 옷을 찢지 아니하였고 25엘라단과 들라야와 그마랴가 왕께 두루마리를 사르지 말기를 간구하여도 왕이 듣지 아니하였으며 26왕이 왕의 아들 여라므엘과 아스리엘의 아들 스라야와 압디엘의 아들 셀레먀를 명하여 서기관 바룩과 선지자 예레미야를 잡으라 하였으나 여호와께서 그들을 숨기셨더라 27왕이 두루마리와 바룩이 예레미야의 구전으로 기록한 말씀을 불사른 후에 여호와의 말씀이 예레미야에게 임하니라 가라사대 28너는 다시 다른 두루마리를 가지고 유다 왕 여호야김의 불사른 첫 두루마리의 모든 말을 기록하고 29또 유다 왕 여호야김에 대하여 이같이 말하기를 여호와의 말씀에 그가 이 두루마리를 불사르며 말하기를 네가 어찌하여 바벨론 왕이 정녕히 와서 이 땅을 멸하고 사람과 짐승을 이 땅에서 없어지게 하리라 하는 말을 이 두루마리에 기록하였느뇨 하도다 30그러므로 나 여호와가 유다 왕 여호야김에 대하여 이같이 말하노라 그에게 다윗의 위에 앉을 자가 없게 될 것이요 그 시체는 버림을 입어서 낮에는 더위, 밤에는 추위를 당하리라 31또 내가 그와 그 자손과 신하들을 그들의 죄악을 인하여 벌할 것이라 내가 일찍 그들과 예루살렘 거민과 유다 사람에게 선포하였으나 그들이 듣지 아니한 그 모든 재앙을 내리리라 하셨다 하라 32이에 예레미야가 다른 두루마리를 취하여 네리야의 아들 서기관 바룩에게 주매 그가 유다 왕 여호야김의 불사른 책의 모든 말을 예레미야의 구전대로 기록하고 그 외에도 그 같은 말을 많이 더 하였더라
1In the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying, 2Take a scroll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah, even to this day. 3It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do to them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin. 4Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah; and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all Yahweh’s words, which he had spoken to him, on a scroll of a book. 5Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I can’t go into Yahweh’s house: 6therefore you go, and read in the scroll, which you have written from my mouth, Yahweh’s words in the ears of the people in Yahweh’s house on the fast day; and also you shall read them in the ears of all Judah who come out of their cities. 7It may be they will present their supplication before Yahweh, and will return everyone from his evil way; for great is the anger and the wrath that Yahweh has pronounced against this people. 8Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book Yahweh’s words in Yahweh’s house. 9Now in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, all the people in Jerusalem, and all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem, proclaimed a fast before Yahweh. 10Then Baruch read the words of Jeremiah from the book in Yahweh’s house, in the room of Gemariah the son of Shaphan, the scribe, in the upper court, at the entry of the new gate of Yahweh’s house, in the ears of all the people. 11When Micaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all Yahweh’s words, 12he went down into the king’s house, into the scribe’s room: and behold, all the princes were sitting there, Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes. 13Then Micaiah declared to them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people. 14Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, to Baruch, saying, Take in your hand the scroll in which you have read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the scroll in his hand, and came to them. 15They said to him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears. 16Now when they had heard all the words, they turned in fear one toward another, and said to Baruch, “We will surely tell the king of all these words.” 17They asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How did you write all these words at his mouth? 18Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words to me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book. 19Then the princes said to Baruch, Go, hide, you and Jeremiah; and let no man know where you are. 20They went in to the king into the court; but they had laid up the scroll in the room of Elishama the scribe; and they told all the words in the ears of the king. 21So the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll; and he took it out of the room of Elishama the scribe. Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes who stood beside the king. 22Now the king was sitting in the winter house in the ninth month: and there was a fire in the brazier burning before him. 23When Jehudi had read three or four leaves, the king cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all the scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier. 24They were not afraid, nor tore their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants who heard all these words. 25Moreover Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the scroll; but he would not hear them. 26The king commanded Jerahmeel the king’s son, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet; but Yahweh hid them. 27Then Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the scroll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying, 28Take again another scroll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first scroll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned. 29Concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say, Thus says Yahweh: You have burned this scroll, saying, Why have you written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from there man and animal? 30Therefore thus says Yahweh concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He shall have no one to sit on the throne of David; and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost. 31I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring on them, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and on the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they didn’t listen. 32Then took Jeremiah another scroll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and many similar words were added to them.

Alzo nam Baruch, de zoon van Nerija, de rol in zijn hand, en kwam tot hen. 15En zij zeiden tot hem: Zit toch neder, en lees ze voor onze oren; en Baruch las voor hun oren. 16En het geschiedde, als zij al de woorden hoorden, dat zij verschrikten, de een tegen den ander; en zij zeiden tot Baruch: Voorzeker zullen wij al deze woorden den koning bekend maken. 17En zij vraagden Baruch, zeggende: Verklaar ons toch, hoe hebt gij al deze woorden uit zijn mond geschreven? 18En Baruch zeide tot hen: Uit zijn mond las hij tot mij al deze woorden, en ik schreef ze met inkt in dit boek. 19Toen zeiden de vorsten tot Baruch: Ga henen, verberg u, gij en Jeremia; en niemand wete, waar gijlieden zijt. 20Zij dan gingen in tot den koning in het voorhof; maar de rol legden zij weg in de kamer van Elisama, den schrijver; en zij verklaarden al die woorden voor de oren des konings. 21Toen zond de koning Jehudi, om de rol te halen; en hij haalde ze uit de kamer van Elisama, den schrijver; en Jehudi las ze voor de oren des konings, en voor de oren van al de vorsten, die omtrent den koning stonden. 22(De koning nu zat in het winterhuis in de negende maand; en er was een vuur voor zijn aangezicht op den haard aangestoken.) 23En het geschiedde, als Jehudi drie stukken, of vier gelezen had, versneed hij ze met een schrijfmes, en wierp ze in het vuur, dat op den haard was, totdat de ganse rol verteerd was in het vuur, dat op den haard was. 24En zij verschrikten niet, en scheurden hun klederen niet, de koning noch al zijn knechten, die al deze woorden gehoord hadden. 25Hoewel ook Elnathan, en Delaja, en Gemarja bij den koning daarvoor spraken, dat hij de rol niet zou verbranden; doch hij hoorde naar hen niet. 26Daartoe gebood de koning aan Jerahmeel, den zoon van Hammelech, en Zeraja, den zoon van Azriel, en Selemja, den zoon van Abdeel, om den schrijver Baruch en den profeet Jeremia te vangen. Maar de HEERE had hen verborgen. 27Toen geschiedde des HEEREN woord tot Jeremia, nadat de koning de rol en de woorden, die Baruch geschreven had uit den mond van Jeremia, verbrand had, zeggende: 28Neem u weder een andere rol, en schrijf daarop al de eerste woorden, die geweest zijn op de eerste rol, die Jojakim, de koning van Juda, verbrand heeft. 29En tot Jojakim, den koning van Juda, zult gij zeggen: Zo zegt de HEERE: Gij hebt deze rol verbrand, zeggende: Waarom hebt gij daarop geschreven, zeggende: De koning van Babel zal zekerlijk komen, en dit land verderven, en maken, dat mens en beest daarin ophouden? 30Daarom zegt de HEERE alzo van Jojakim, den koning van Juda: Hij zal geen hebben, die op Davids troon zitte; en zijn dood lichaam zal weggeworpen zijn, des daags in de hitte, en des nachts in de vorst. 31En Ik zal over hem, en over zijn zaad, en over zijn knechten hunlieder ongerechtigheid bezoeken; en Ik zal over hen, en over de inwoners van Jeruzalem, en over de mannen van Juda, al het kwaad brengen, dat Ik tot hen gesproken heb; maar zij hebben niet gehoord. 32Jeremia dan nam een andere rol, en gaf ze aan den schrijver Baruch, den zoon van Nerija; die schreef daarop, uit den mond van Jeremia, al de woorden des boeks, dat Jojakim, de koning van Juda, met vuur verbrand had; en tot dezelve werden nog veel dergelijke woorden toegedaan.
