1유다 왕 요시야의 아들 여호야김의 즉위 초에 여호와께로서 이 말씀이 임하니라 가라사대 2나 여호와가 이같이 이르노라 너는 여호와의 집 뜰에 서서 유다 모든 성읍에서 여호와의 집에 와서 경배하는 자에게 내가 네게 명하여 이르게 한 모든 말을 고하되 한 말도 감하지 말라 3그들이 듣고 혹시 각각 그 악한 길에서 떠나리라 그리하면 내가 그들의 악행으로 인하여 재앙을 그들에게 내리려 하던 뜻을 돌이키리라 4너는 그들에게 이르기를 여호와의 말씀에 너희가 나를 청종치 아니하며 내가 너희 앞에 둔 내 법을 행치 아니하며 5내가 너희에게 보내고 부지런히 보낸 나의 종 선지자들의 말을 이미 듣지 아니하였거니와 너희가 만일 다시 듣지 아니하면 6내가 이 집을 실로 같이 되게 하고 이 성으로 세계 열방의 저줏거리가 되게 하리라 하셨다 하라 7예레미야가 여호와의 집에서 이 말을 하매 제사장들과 선지자들과 모든 백성이 듣더라 8에레미야가 여호와께서 명하신 말씀을 모든 백성에게 고하기를 마치매 제사장들과 선지자들과 모든 백성이 그를 붙잡고 이르되 네가 반드시 죽으리라 9어찌하여 네가 여호와의 이름을 의탁하고 예언하여 이르기를 이 집이 실로 같이 되겠고 이 성이 황무하여 거민이 없으리라 하느뇨 하며 그 모든 백성이 여호와의 집에서 예레미야에게로 모여드니라 10유다 방백들이 이 일을 듣고 왕궁에서 여호와의 집으로 올라와서 여호와의 집 새문 어귀에 앉으매 11제사장들과 선지자들이 방백들과 모든 백성에게 말하여 가로되 이 사람은 죽음이 합당하니 너희 귀로 들음 같이 이 성을 쳐서 예언하였느니라 12예레미야가 모든 방백과 백성에게 일러 가로되 여호와께서 나를 보내사 너희의 들은 바 모든 말로 이 집과 이 성을 쳐서 예언하게 하셨느니라 13그런즉 너희는 너희 길과 행위를 고치고 너희 하나님 여호와의 목소리를 청종하라 그리하면 여호와께서 너희에게 선고하신 재앙에 대하여 뜻을 돌이키시리라 14보라 나는 너희 손에 있으니 너희 소견에 선한 대로, 옳은 대로 하려니와 15너희는 분명히 알라 너희가 나를 죽이면 정녕히 무죄한 피로 너희 몸과 이 성과 이 성 거민에게로 돌아가게 하리라 이는 여호와께서 진실로 나를 보내사 이 모든 말을 너희 귀에 이르게 하셨음이니라 16방백들과 모든 백성이 제사장들과 선지자들에게 이르되 이 사람이 우리 하나님 여호와의 이름을 의탁하고 우리에게 말하였으니 죽음이 부당하니라 17때에 그 땅 장로 중 몇 사람이 일어나 백성의 온 회중에 말하여 가로되 18유다 왕 히스기야 시대에 모레셋 사람 미가가 유다 모든 백성에게 예언하여 가로되 만군의 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시기를 시온은 밭 같이 경작함을 당하며 예루살렘은 무더기가 되며 이 전의 산은 수풀의 높은 곳들 같이 되리라 하였으나 19유다 왕 히스기야와 모든 유다가 그를 죽였느냐 히스기야가 여호와를 두려워하여 여호와께 간구하매 여호와께서 그들에게 선고한 재앙에 대하여 뜻을 돌이키지 아니하셨느냐 우리가 이같이 하면 우리 생명을 스스로 크게 해하는 일이니라 20또 여호와의 이름을 의탁하고 예언한 사람이 있었는데 곧 기럇여아림 스마야의 아들 우리야라 그가 예레미야의 모든 말과 같이 이 성과 이 땅을 쳐서 예언하매 21여호야김 왕과 그 모든 용사와 모든 방백이 그 말을 듣고는 왕이 그를 죽이려 하매 우리야가 이를 듣고 두려워 애굽으로 도망하여 간지라 22여호야김 왕이 사람을 애굽으로 보내되 곧 악볼의 아들 엘라단과 몇 사람을 함께 애굽으로 보내었더니 23그들이 우리야를 애굽에서 끌어내어 여호야김 왕께로 데려오매 왕이 칼로 그를 죽이고 그 시체를 평민의 묘실에 던지게 하였다 하니라 24사반의 아들 아히감이 예레미야를 보호하여 예레미야를 백성의 손에 내어주지 아니하여 죽이지 못하게 하니라
1In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, came this word from Yahweh, saying, 2Thus says Yahweh: Stand in the court of Yahweh’s house, and speak to all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in Yahweh’s house, all the words that I command you to speak to them; don’t diminish a word. 3It may be they will listen, and turn every man from his evil way; that I may repent me of the evil which I purpose to do to them because of the evil of their doings. 4You shall tell them, Thus says Yahweh: If you will not listen to me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you, 5to listen to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I send to you, even rising up early and sending them, but you have not listened; 6then I will make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth. 7The priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in Yahweh’s house. 8When Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that Yahweh had commanded him to speak to all the people, the priests and the prophets and all the people seized him, saying, “You shall surely die.” 9Why have you prophesied in Yahweh’s name, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate, without inhabitant? All the people were gathered to Jeremiah in Yahweh’s house. 10When the princes of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king’s house to Yahweh’s house; and they sat in the entry of the new gate of Yahweh’s house. 11Then spoke the priests and the prophets to the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy of death; for he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your ears. 12Then spoke Jeremiah to all the princes and to all the people, saying, Yahweh sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that you have heard. 13Now therefore amend your ways and your doings, and obey Yahweh your God’s voice; and Yahweh will repent him of the evil that he has pronounced against you. 14But as for me, behold, I am in your hand: do with me as is good and right in your eyes. 15Only know for certain that, if you put me to death, you will bring innocent blood on yourselves, and on this city, and on its inhabitants; for of a truth Yahweh has sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears. 16Then the princes and all the people said to the priests and to the prophets: This man is not worthy of death; for he has spoken to us in the name of Yahweh our God. 17Then rose up certain of the elders of the land, and spoke to all the assembly of the people, saying, 18Micah the Morashtite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah; and he spoke to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus says Yahweh of Armies: Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest. 19Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? Didn’t he fear Yahweh, and entreat the favor of Yahweh, and Yahweh relented of the disaster which he had pronounced against them? Thus should we commit great evil against our own souls. 20There was also a man who prophesied in Yahweh’s name, Uriah the son of Shemaiah of Kiriath Jearim; and he prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah: 21and when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death; but when Uriah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt: 22and Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him, into Egypt; 23and they fetched Uriah out of Egypt, and brought him to Jehoiakim the king, who killed him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people. 24But the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

En het ganse volk werd vergaderd tegen Jeremia, in het huis des HEEREN. 10Als nu de vorsten van Juda deze woorden hoorden, gingen zij op uit het huis des konings naar het huis des HEEREN; en zij zetten zich bij de deur der nieuwe poort des HEEREN. 11Toen spraken de priesters en de profeten tot de vorsten en tot al het volk, zeggende: Aan dezen man is een oordeel des doods, want hij heeft geprofeteerd tegen deze stad, gelijk als gij met uw oren gehoord hebt. 12Maar Jeremia sprak tot al de vorsten en tot al het volk, zeggende: De HEERE heeft mij gezonden, om tegen dit huis en tegen deze stad te profeteren al de woorden, die gij gehoord hebt; 13Nu dan, maakt uw wegen en uw handelingen goed, en gehoorzaamt de stem des HEEREN, uws Gods; zo zal het den HEERE berouwen over het kwaad, dat Hij tegen u gesproken heeft. 14Doch ik, ziet, ik ben in uw handen; doet mij, als het goed, en als het recht is in uw ogen; 15Maar weet voorzeker, dat gij, zo gij mij doodt, gewisselijk onschuldig bloed zult brengen op u, en op deze stad, en op haar inwoners; want in der waarheid, de HEERE heeft mij tot u gezonden, om al deze woorden voor uw oren te spreken. 16Toen zeiden de vorsten en al het volk tot de priesteren en tot de profeten: Aan dezen man is geen oordeel des doods, want hij heeft tot ons gesproken in den Naam des HEEREN, onzes Gods. 17Ook stonden er mannen op, van de oudsten des lands, en spraken tot de ganse gemeente des volks, zeggende: 18Micha, de Morastiet, heeft in de dagen van Hizkia, koning van Juda, geprofeteerd, en tot al het volk van Juda gesproken, zeggende: Zo zegt de HEERE des heirscharen: Sion zal als een akker geploegd, en Jeruzalem tot steen hopen worden, en de berg dezes huizes tot hoogten des wouds. 19Hebben ook Hizkia, de koning van Juda, en gans Juda hem ooit gedood? Vreesde hij niet den HEERE, en smeekte des HEEREN aangezicht, zodat het den HEERE berouwde over het kwaad, dat Hij tegen hen gesproken had? Wij dan doen een groot kwaad tegen onze zielen. 20Er was ook een man, die in den Naam des HEEREN profeteerde, Uria, de zoon van Semaja, van Kirjath-Jearim; die profeteerde tegen deze stad en tegen dit land, naar al de woorden van Jeremia. 21En als de koning Jojakim, mitsgaders al zijn geweldigen, en al de vorsten zijn woorden hoorden, zocht de koning hem te doden; als Uria dat hoorde, zo vreesde hij, en vluchtte, en kwam in Egypte; 22Maar de koning Jojakim zond mannen naar Egypte, Elnathan, den zoon van Achbor, en andere mannen met hem, in Egypte; 23Die voerden Uria uit Egypte, en brachten hem tot den koning Jojakim, en hij sloeg hem met het zwaard, en hij wierp zijn dood lichaam in de graven van de kinderen des volks. 24Maar de hand van Ahikam, den zoon van Safan, was met Jeremia, dat men hem niet overgaf in de hand des volk, om hem te doden.
