1여호와께서 마므레 상수리 수풀 근처에서 아브라함에게 나타나시니라 오정 즈음에 그가 장막 문에 앉았다가 2눈을 들어 본즉 사람 셋이 맞은편에 섰는지라 그가 그들을 보자 곧 장막 문에서 달려나가 영접하며 몸을 땅에 굽혀 3가로되 내 주여 내가 주께 은혜를 입었사오면 원컨대 종을 떠나 지나가지 마옵시고 4물을 조금 가져오게 하사 당신들의 발을 씻으시고 나무 아래서 쉬소서 5내가 떡을 조금 가져오리니 당신들의 마음을 쾌활케 하신 후에 지나가소서 당신들이 종에게 오셨음이니이다 그들이 가로되 네 말대로 그리하라 6아브라함이 급히 장막에 들어가 사라에게 이르러 이르되 속히 고운 가루 세 스아를 가져다가 반죽하여 떡을 만들라 하고 7아브라함이 또 짐승 떼에 달려가서 기름지고 좋은 송아지를 취하여 하인에게 주니 그가 급히 요리한지라 8아브라함이 뻐터와 우유와 하인이 요리한 송아지를 가져다가 그들의 앞에 진설하고 나무아래 모셔 서매 그들이 먹으니라 9그들이 아브라함에게 이르되 네 아내 사라가 어디 있느냐 대답하되 장막에 있나이다 10그가 가라사대 기한이 이를 때에 내가 정녕 네게로 돌아오리니 네 아내 사라에게 아들이 있으리라 하시니 사라가 그 뒤 장막 문에서 들었더라 11아브라함과 사라가 나이 많아 늙었고 사라의 경수는 끊어졌는지라 12사라가 속으로 웃고 이르되 내가 노쇠하였고 내 주인도 늙었으니 내게 어찌 낙이 있으리요 13여호와께서 아브라함에게 이르시되 사라가 왜 웃으며 이르기를 내가 늙었거늘 어떻게 아들을 낳으리요 하느냐 14여호와께 능치 못한 일이 있겠느냐 기한이 이를 때에 내가 네게로 돌아오리니 사라에게 아들이 있으리라 15사라가 두려워서 승인치 아니하여 가로되 내가 웃지 아니하였나이다 가라사대 아니라 네가 웃었느니라 16그 사람들이 거기서 일어나서 소돔으로 향하고 아브라함은 그들을 전송하러 함께 나가니라 17여호와께서 가라사대 나의 하려는 것을 아브라함에게 숨기겠느냐 18아브라함은 강대한 나라가 되고 천하 만민은 그를 인하여 복을 받게 될 것이 아니냐 19내가 그로 그 자식과 권속에게 명하여 여호와의 도를 지켜 의와 공도를 행하게 하려고 그를 택하였나니 이는 나 여호와가 아브라함에게 대하여 말한 일을 이루려 함이니라 20여호와께서 또 가라사대 소돔과 고모라에 대한 부르짖음이 크고 그 죄악이 심히 중하니 21내가 이제 내려가서 그 모든 행한 것이 과연 내게 들린 부르짖음과 같은지 그렇지 않은지 내가 보고 알려하노라 22그 사람들이 거기서 떠나 소돔으로 향하여 가고 아브라함은 여호와 앞에 그대로 섰더니 23가까이 나아가 가로되 주께서 의인을 악인과 함께 멸하시려나이까 24그 성중에 의인 오십이 있을지라도 주께서 그 곳을 멸하시고 그 오십 의인을 위하여 용서치 아니하시리이까 25주께서 이같이 하사 의인을 악인과 함께 죽이심은 불가하오며 의인과 악인을 균등히 하심도 불가하니이다 세상을 심판하시는 이가 공의를 행하실 것이 아니니이까 26여호와께서 가라사대 내가 만일 소돔 성중에서 의인 오십을 찾으면 그들을 위하여 온 지경을 용서하리라 27아브라함이 말씀하여 가로되 티끌과 같은 나라도 감히 주께 고하나이다 28오십 의인 중에 오인이 부족할 것이면 그 오인 부족함을 인하여 온 성을 멸하시리이까 가라사대 내가 거기서 사십오인을 찾으면 멸하지 아니하리라 29아브라함이 또 고하여 가로되 거기서 사십인을 찾으시면 어찌 하시려나이까 가라사대 사십인을 인하여 멸하지 아니하리라 30아브라함이 가로되 내 주여 노하지 마옵시고 말씀하게 하옵소서 거기서 삼십인을 찾으시면 어찌 하시려나이까 가라사대 내가 거기서 삼십인을 찾으면 멸하지 아니하리라 31아브라함이 또 가로되 내가 감히 내 주께 고하나이다 거기서 이십인을 찾으시면 어찌 하시려나이까 가라사대 내가 이십인을 인하여 멸하지 아니하리라 32아브라함이 또 가로되 주는 노하지 마옵소서 내가 이번만 더 말씀하리이다 거기서 십인을 찾으시면 어찌 하시려나이까 가라사대 내가 십인을 인하여도 멸하지 아니하리라 33여호와께서 아브라함과 말씀을 마치시고 즉시 가시니 아브라함도 자기 곳으로 돌아갔더라
1Yahweh appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day. 2He lifted up his eyes and looked, and saw that three men stood opposite him. When he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself to the earth, 3and said, “My lord, if now I have found favor in your sight, please don’t go away from your servant. 4Now let a little water be fetched, wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree. 5I will get a morsel of bread so you can refresh your heart. After that you may go your way, now that you have come to your servant.” They said, “Very well, do as you have said.” 6Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and said, “Quickly prepare three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes.” 7Abraham ran to the herd, and fetched a tender and good calf, and gave it to the servant. He hurried to dress it. 8He took butter, milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them. He stood by them under the tree, and they ate. 9They asked him, “Where is Sarah, your wife?” He said, “See, in the tent.” 10He said, “I will certainly return to you when the season comes round. Behold, Sarah your wife will have a son.” Sarah heard in the tent door, which was behind him. 11Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. Sarah had passed the age of childbearing. 12Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old will I have pleasure, my lord being old also?” 13Yahweh said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Will I really bear a child, yet I am old?’ 14Is anything too hard for Yahweh? At the set time I will return to you, when the season comes round, and Sarah will have a son.” 15Then Sarah denied, saying, “I didn’t laugh,” for she was afraid. He said, “No, but you did laugh.” 16The men rose up from there, and looked toward Sodom. Abraham went with them to see them on their way. 17Yahweh said, “Will I hide from Abraham what I do, 18since Abraham has surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed in him? 19For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that Yahweh may bring on Abraham that which he has spoken of him.” 20Yahweh said, “Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous, 21I will go down now, and see whether their deeds are as bad as the reports which have come to me. If not, I will know.” 22The men turned from there, and went toward Sodom, but Abraham stood yet before Yahweh. 23Abraham drew near, and said, “Will you consume the righteous with the wicked? 24What if there are fifty righteous within the city? Will you consume and not spare the place for the fifty righteous who are in it? 25Be it far from you to do things like that, to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be like the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn’t the Judge of all the earth do right?” 26Yahweh said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sake.” 27Abraham answered, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord, who am but dust and ashes. 28What if there will lack five of the fifty righteous? Will you destroy all the city for lack of five?” He said, “I will not destroy it, if I find forty-five there.” 29He spoke to him yet again, and said, “What if there are forty found there?” He said, “I will not do it for the forty’s sake.” 30He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if there are thirty found there?” He said, “I will not do it, if I find thirty there.” 31He said, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord. What if there are twenty found there?” He said, “I will not destroy it for the twenty’s sake.” 32He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak just once more. What if ten are found there?” He said, “I will not destroy it for the ten’s sake.” 33Yahweh went his way, as soon as he had finished communing with Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.
1Daarna verscheen hem de HEERE aan de eikenbossen van Mamre, als hij in de deur der tent zat, toen de dag heet werd. 2En hij hief zijn ogen op en zag; en ziet, daar stonden drie mannen tegenover hem; als hij hen zag, zo liep hij hun tegemoet van de deur der tent, en boog zich ter aarde. 3En hij zeide: Heere! heb ik nu genade gevonden in Uw ogen, zo gaat toch niet aan Uw knecht voorbij. 4Dat toch een weinig waters gebracht worde, en wast Uw voeten, en leunt onder dezen boom. 5En ik zal een bete broods langen, dat Gij Uw hart sterkt; daarna zult Gij voortgaan, daarom omdat Gij tot Uw knecht overgekomen zijt. En zij zeiden: Doe zo als gij gesproken hebt. 6En Abraham haastte zich naar de tent tot Sara, en hij zeide: Haast u; kneed drie maten meelbloem, en maak koeken. 7En Abraham liep tot de runderen, en hij nam een kalf, teder en goed, en hij gaf het aan den knecht, die haastte, om dat toe te maken. 8En hij nam boter en melk, en het kalf, dat hij toegemaakt had, en hij zette het hun voor, en stond bij hen onder dien boom, en zij aten. 9Toen zeiden zij tot hem: Waar is Sara, uw huisvrouw? En hij zeide: Ziet, in de tent. 10En Hij zeide: Ik zal voorzeker weder tot u komen, omtrent dezen tijd des levens; en zie, Sara, uw huisvrouw, zal een zoon hebben! En Sara hoorde het aan de deur der tent, welke achter Hem was. 11Abraham nu en Sara waren oud, en wel bedaagd; het had Sara opgehouden te gaan naar de wijze der vrouwen. 12Zo lachte Sara bij zichzelve, zeggende: Zal ik wellust hebben, nadat ik oud geworden ben, en mijn heer oud is? 13En de HEERE zeide tot Abraham: Waarom heeft Sara gelachen, zeggende: Zou ik ook waarlijk baren, nu ik oud geworden ben? 14Zou iets voor den HEERE te wonderlijk zijn? Ter gezetter tijd zal Ik tot u wederkomen, omtrent dezen tijd des levens, en Sara zal een zoon hebben! 15En Sara loochende het, zeggende: Ik heb niet gelachen; want zij vreesde. En Hij zeide: Neen! maar gij hebt gelachen. 16Toen stonden die mannen op van daar, en zagen naar Sodom toe; en Abraham ging met hen, om hen te geleiden. 17En de HEERE zeide: Zal Ik voor Abraham verbergen, wat Ik doe? 18Dewijl Abraham gewisselijk tot een groot en machtig volk worden zal, en alle volken der aarde in hem gezegend zullen worden? 19Want Ik heb hem gekend, opdat hij zijn kinderen en zijn huis na hem zoude bevelen, en zij den weg des HEEREN houden, om te doen gerechtigheid en gerichte; opdat de HEERE over Abraham brenge, hetgeen Hij over hem gesproken heeft. 20Voorts zeide de HEERE: Dewijl het geroep van Sodom en Gomorra groot is, en dewijl haar zonde zeer zwaar is, 21Zal Ik nu afgaan en bezien, of zij naar hun geroep, dat tot Mij gekomen is, het uiterste gedaan hebben, en zo niet, Ik zal het weten. 22Toen keerden die mannen het aangezicht van daar, en gingen naar Sodom; maar Abraham bleef nog staande voor het aangezicht des HEEREN. 23En Abraham trad toe, en zeide: Zult Gij ook den rechtvaardige met den goddeloze ombrengen? 24Misschien zijn er vijftig rechtvaardigen in de stad; zult Gij hen ook ombrengen, en de plaats niet sparen, om de vijftig rechtvaardigen, die binnen haar zijn? 25Het zij verre van U, zulk een ding te doen, te doden den rechtvaardige met den goddeloze! dat de rechtvaardige zij gelijk de goddeloze, verre zij het van U! zou de Rechter der ganse aarde geen recht doen? 26Toen zeide de HEERE: Zo Ik te Sodom binnen de stad vijftig rechtvaardigen zal vinden, zo zal Ik de ganse plaats sparen om hunnentwil. 27En Abraham antwoordde en zeide: Zie toch; ik heb mij onderwonden te spreken tot den Heere, hoewel ik stof en as ben! 28Misschien zullen aan de vijftig rechtvaardigen vijf ontbreken; zult Gij dan om vijf de ganse stad verderven? En Hij zeide: Ik zal haar niet verderven, zo Ik er vijf en veertig zal vinden. 29En hij voer voort nog tot Hem te spreken, en zeide: Misschien zullen aldaar veertig gevonden worden! En Hij zeide: Ik zal het niet doen om der veertigen wil. 30Voorts zeide hij: Dat toch de Heere niet ontsteke, dat ik spreke; misschien zullen aldaar dertig gevonden worden! En Hij zeide: Ik zal het niet doen, zo Ik aldaar dertig zal vinden. 31En hij zeide: Zie toch, ik heb mij onderwonden te spreken tot de Heere; misschien zullen er twintig gevonden worden! En Hij zeide: Ik zal haar niet verderven om der twintigen wil. 32Nog zeide hij: Dat toch de Heere niet ontsteke, dat ik alleenlijk ditmaal spreke: misschien zullen er tien gevonden worden. En Hij zeide: Ik zal haar niet verderven om der tienen wil. 33Toen ging de HEERE weg, als Hij geeindigd had tot Abraham te spreken; en Abraham keerde weder naar zijn plaats.
