Efesini 3

1Per questa cagione io, Paolo, il carcerato di Cristo Gesù per voi, o Gentili… 2(Poiché senza dubbio avete udito di quale grazia Iddio m’abbia fatto dispensatore per voi; 3come per rivelazione mi sia stato fatto conoscere il mistero, di cui più sopra vi ho scritto in poche parole; 4le quali leggendo, potete capire la intelligenza che io ho del mistero di Cristo. 5Il quale mistero, nelle altre età, non fu dato a conoscere ai figliuoli degli uomini nel modo che ora, per mezzo dello Spirito, è stato rivelato ai santi apostoli e profeti di Lui; 6vale a dire, che i Gentili sono eredi con noi, membra con noi d’un medesimo corpo e con noi partecipi della promessa fatta in Cristo Gesù mediante l’Evangelo, 7del quale io sono stato fatto ministro, in virtù del dono della grazia di Dio largitami secondo la virtù della sua potenza. 8A me, dico, che son da meno del minimo di tutti i santi, è stata data questa grazia di recare ai Gentili il buon annunzio delle non investigabili ricchezze di Cristo, 9e di manifestare a tutti quale sia il piano seguito da Dio riguardo al mistero che è stato fin dalle più remote età nascosto in Dio, il creatore di tutte le cose, 10affinché nel tempo presente, ai principati ed alle potestà, ne’ luoghi celesti, sia data a conoscere, per mezzo della Chiesa, la infinitamente varia sapienza di Dio, 11conforme al proponimento eterno ch’Egli ha mandato ad effetto nel nostro Signore, Cristo Gesù; 12nel quale abbiamo la libertà d’accostarci a Dio, con piena fiducia, mediante la fede in lui. 13Perciò io vi chieggo che non veniate meno nell’animo a motivo delle tribolazioni ch’io patisco per voi, poiché esse sono la vostra gloria). 14…Per questa cagione, dico, io piego le ginocchia dinanzi al Padre, 15dal quale ogni famiglia ne’ cieli e sulla terra prende nome, 16perch’Egli vi dia, secondo le ricchezze della sua gloria, d’esser potentemente fortificati mediante lo Spirito suo, nell’uomo interiore, 17e faccia sì che Cristo abiti per mezzo della fede nei vostri cuori, 18affinché, essendo radicati e fondati nell’amore, siate resi capaci di abbracciare con tutti i santi qual sia la larghezza, la lunghezza, l’altezza e la profondità dell’amore di Cristo, 19e di conoscere questo amore che sorpassa ogni conoscenza, affinché giungiate ad esser ripieni di tutta la pienezza di Dio. 20Or a Colui che può, mediante la potenza che opera in noi, fare infinitamente al di là di quel che domandiamo o pensiamo, 21a Lui sia la gloria nella Chiesa e in Cristo Gesù, per tutte le età, ne’ secoli de’ secoli. Amen.

1For this cause I, Paul, am the prisoner of Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles, 2if it is so that you have heard of the administration of that grace of God which was given me toward you; 3how that by revelation the mystery was made known to me, as I wrote before in few words, 4by which, when you read, you can perceive my understanding in the mystery of Christ; 5which in other generations was not made known to the children of men, as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit; 6that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, and fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of his promise in Christ Jesus through the Good News, 7of which I was made a servant, according to the gift of that grace of God which was given me according to the working of his power. 8To me, the very least of all saints, was this grace given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9and to make all men see what is the administration of the mystery which for ages has been hidden in God, who created all things through Jesus Christ; 10to the intent that now through the assembly the manifold wisdom of God might be made known to the principalities and the powers in the heavenly places, 11according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord; 12in whom we have boldness and access in confidence through our faith in him. 13Therefore I ask that you may not lose heart at my troubles for you, which are your glory. 14For this cause, I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, that you may be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inward man; 17that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; to the end that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18may be strengthened to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19and to know Christ’s love which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20Now to him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21to him be the glory in the assembly and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.

1Om deze oorzaak ben ik Paulus de gevangene van Christus Jezus, voor u, die heidenen zijt. 2Indien gij maar gehoord hebt van de bedeling der genade Gods, die mij gegeven is aan u; 3Dat Hij mij door openbaring heeft bekend gemaakt deze verborgenheid, (gelijk ik met weinige woorden te voren geschreven heb; 4Waaraan gij, dit lezende, kunt bemerken mijn wetenschap, in deze verborgenheid van Christus), 5Welke in andere eeuwen den kinderen der mensen niet is bekend gemaakt, gelijk zij nu is geopenbaard aan Zijn heilige apostelen en profeten, door den Geest; 6Namelijk dat de heidenen zijn medeerfgenamen, en van hetzelfde lichaam, en mededeelgenoten Zijner belofte in Christus, door het Evangelie; 7Waarvan ik een dienaar geworden ben, naar de gave der genade Gods, die mij gegeven is, naar de werking Zijner kracht. 8Mij, den allerminste van al de heiligen, is deze genade gegeven, om onder de heidenen door het Evangelie te verkondigen den onnaspeurlijken rijkdom van Christus, 9En allen te verlichten, dat zij mogen verstaan, welke de gemeenschap der verborgenheid zij, die van alle eeuwen verborgen is geweest in God, Welke alle dingen geschapen heeft door Jezus Christus; 10Opdat nu, door de Gemeente, bekend gemaakt worde aan de overheden en de machten in den hemel de veelvuldige wijsheid Gods; 11Naar het eeuwig voornemen, dat Hij gemaakt heeft in Christus Jezus, onzen Heere; 12In Denwelken wij hebben de vrijmoedigheid, en den toegang met vertrouwen, door het geloof aan Hem. 13Daarom bid ik, dat gij niet vertraagt in mijn verdrukkingen voor u, hetwelke is uw heerlijkheid. 14Om deze oorzaak buig ik mijn knieen tot den Vader van onzen Heere Jezus Christus, 15Uit Welken al het geslacht in de hemelen en op de aarde genoemd wordt, 16Opdat Hij u geve, naar den rijkdom Zijner heerlijkheid, met kracht versterkt te worden door Zijn Geest in den inwendigen mens; 17Opdat Christus door het geloof in uw harten wone, en gij in de liefde geworteld en gegrond zijt; 18Opdat gij ten volle kondet begrijpen met al de heiligen, welke de breedte, en lengte, en diepte, en hoogte zij, 19En bekennen de liefde van Christus, die de kennis te boven gaat, opdat gij vervuld wordt tot al de volheid Gods. 20Hem nu, Die machtig is meer dan overvloediglijk te doen, boven al wat wij bidden of denken, naar de kracht, die in ons werkt, 21Hem, zeg ik, zij de heerlijkheid in de Gemeente, door Christus Jezus, in alle geslachten, tot alle eeuwigheid. Amen.
