1L’Éternel parla à Moïse, et dit : 2Parle aux enfants d’Israël ; qu’ils se détournent, et qu’ils campent devant Pi-Hahiroth, entre Migdol et la mer, vis-à-vis de Baal-Tsephon ; c’est en face de ce lieu que vous camperez, près de la mer. 3Pharaon dira des enfants d’Israël : Ils sont égarés dans le pays ; le désert les enferme. 4J’endurcirai le cœur de Pharaon, et il les poursuivra ; mais Pharaon et toute son armée serviront à faire éclater ma gloire, et les Égyptiens sauront que je suis l’Éternel. Et les enfants d’Israël firent ainsi. 5On annonça au roi d’Égypte que le peuple avait pris la fuite. Alors le cœur de Pharaon et celui de ses serviteurs furent changés à l’égard du peuple. Ils dirent : Qu’avons-nous fait , en laissant aller Israël, dont nous n’aurons plus les services ? 6Et Pharaon attela son char, et il prit son peuple avec lui. 7Il prit six cents chars d’élite, et tous les chars de l’Égypte ; il y avait sur tous des combattants. 8L’Éternel endurcit le cœur de Pharaon, roi d’Égypte, et Pharaon poursuivit les enfants d’Israël. Les enfants d’Israël étaient sortis la main levée. 9Les Égyptiens les poursuivirent ; et tous les chevaux, les chars de Pharaon, ses cavaliers et son armée, les atteignirent campés près de la mer, vers Pi-Hahiroth, vis-à-vis de Baal-Tsephon. 10Pharaon approchait. Les enfants d’Israël levèrent les yeux, et voici, les Égyptiens étaient en marche derrière eux. Et les enfants d’Israël eurent une grande frayeur, et crièrent à l’Éternel. 11Ils dirent à Moïse : N’y avait-il pas des sépulcres en Égypte, sans qu’il fût besoin de nous mener mourir au désert ? Que nous as-tu fait en nous faisant sortir d’Égypte ? 12N’est-ce pas là ce que nous te disions en Égypte : Laisse-nous servir les Égyptiens, car nous aimons mieux servir les Égyptiens que de mourir au désert ? 13Moïse répondit au peuple : Ne craignez rien, restez en place, et regardez la délivrance que l’Éternel va vous accorder en ce jour ; car les Égyptiens que vous voyez aujourd’hui, vous ne les verrez plus jamais. 14L’Éternel combattra pour vous ; et vous, gardez le silence. 15L’Éternel dit à Moïse : Pourquoi ces cris ? Parle aux enfants d’Israël, et qu’ils marchent. 16Toi, lève ta verge, étends ta main sur la mer, et fends-la ; et les enfants d’Israël entreront au milieu de la mer à sec. 17Et moi, je vais endurcir le cœur des Égyptiens, pour qu’ils y entrent après eux : et Pharaon et toute son armée, ses chars et ses cavaliers, feront éclater ma gloire. 18Et les Égyptiens sauront que je suis l’Éternel, quand Pharaon, ses chars et ses cavaliers, auront fait éclater ma gloire. 19L’ange de Dieu, qui allait devant le camp d’Israël, partit et alla derrière eux ; et la colonne de nuée qui les précédait, partit et se tint derrière eux. 20Elle se plaça entre le camp des Égyptiens et le camp d’Israël. Cette nuée était ténébreuse d’un côté, et de l’autre elle éclairait la nuit. Et les deux camps n’approchèrent point l’un de l’autre pendant toute la nuit. 21Moïse étendit sa main sur la mer. Et l’Éternel refoula la mer par un vent d’orient, qui souffla avec impétuosité toute la nuit ; il mit la mer à sec, et les eaux se fendirent. 22Les enfants d’Israël entrèrent au milieu de la mer à sec, et les eaux formaient comme une muraille à leur droite et à leur gauche. 23Les Égyptiens les poursuivirent ; et tous les chevaux de Pharaon, ses chars et ses cavaliers, entrèrent après eux au milieu de la mer. 24À la veille du matin, l’Éternel, de la colonne de feu et de nuée, regarda le camp des Égyptiens, et mit en désordre le camp des Égyptiens. 25Il ôta les roues de leurs chars et en rendit la marche difficile. Les Égyptiens dirent alors : Fuyons devant Israël, car l’Éternel combat pour lui contre les Égyptiens. 26L’Éternel dit à Moïse : Étends ta main sur la mer ; et les eaux reviendront sur les Égyptiens, sur leurs chars et sur leurs cavaliers. 27Moïse étendit sa main sur la mer. Et vers le matin, la mer reprit son impétuosité, et les Égyptiens s’enfuirent à son approche ; mais l’Éternel précipita les Égyptiens au milieu de la mer. 28Les eaux revinrent, et couvrirent les chars, les cavaliers et toute l’armée de Pharaon, qui étaient entrés dans la mer après les enfants d’Israël ; et il n’en échappa pas un seul. 29Mais les enfants d’Israël marchèrent à sec au milieu de la mer, et les eaux formaient comme une muraille à leur droite et à leur gauche. 30En ce jour, l’Éternel délivra Israël de la main des Égyptiens ; et Israël vit sur le rivage de la mer les Égyptiens qui étaient morts. 31Israël vit la main puissante que l’Éternel avait dirigée contre les Égyptiens. Et le peuple craignit l’Éternel, et il crut en l’Éternel et en Moïse, son serviteur.
1Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 2“Speak to the children of Israel, that they turn back and encamp before Pihahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, before Baal Zephon. You shall encamp opposite it by the sea. 3Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, ‘They are entangled in the land. The wilderness has shut them in.’ 4I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will follow after them; and I will get honor over Pharaoh, and over all his armies; and the Egyptians shall know that I am Yahweh.” They did so. 5It was told the king of Egypt that the people had fled; and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was changed towards the people, and they said, “What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?” 6He prepared his chariot, and took his army with him; 7and he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over all of them. 8Yahweh hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel; for the children of Israel went out with a high hand. 9The Egyptians pursued after them: all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen, and his army; and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baal Zephon. 10When Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them; and they were very afraid. The children of Israel cried out to Yahweh. 11They said to Moses, “Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you treated us this way, to bring us out of Egypt? 12Isn’t this the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, ‘Leave us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians?’ For it were better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.” 13Moses said to the people, “Don’t be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of Yahweh, which he will work for you today: for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall never see them again. 14Yahweh will fight for you, and you shall be still.” 15Yahweh said to Moses, “Why do you cry to me? Speak to the children of Israel, that they go forward. 16Lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go into the midst of the sea on dry ground. 17Behold, I myself will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall go in after them: and I will get myself honor over Pharaoh, and over all his armies, over his chariots, and over his horsemen. 18The Egyptians shall know that I am Yahweh, when I have gotten myself honor over Pharaoh, over his chariots, and over his horsemen.” 19The angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them, and stood behind them. 20It came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud and the darkness, yet gave it light by night: and the one didn’t come near the other all the night. 21Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and Yahweh caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all the night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. 22The children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand, and on their left. 23The Egyptians pursued, and went in after them into the midst of the sea: all of Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. 24In the morning watch, Yahweh looked out on the Egyptian army through the pillar of fire and of cloud, and confused the Egyptian army. 25He took off their chariot wheels, and they drove them heavily; so that the Egyptians said, “Let’s flee from the face of Israel, for Yahweh fights for them against the Egyptians!” 26Yahweh said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come again on the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen.” 27Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it. Yahweh overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. 28The waters returned, and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even all Pharaoh’s army that went in after them into the sea. There remained not so much as one of them. 29But the children of Israel walked on dry land in the midst of the sea, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand, and on their left. 30Thus Yahweh saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. 31Israel saw the great work which Yahweh did to the Egyptians, and the people feared Yahweh; and they believed in Yahweh, and in his servant Moses.
1Toen sprak de HEERE tot Mozes, zeggende: 2Spreek tot de kinderen Israels, dat zij wederkeren, en zich legeren voor Pi-Hachiroth, tussen Migdol en tussen de zee, voor Baal-Zefon; daar tegenover zult gij u legeren aan de zee. 3Farao dan zal zeggen van de kinderen Israels: Zij zijn verward in het land; die woestijn heeft hen besloten. 4En Ik zal Farao's hart verstokken, dat hij hen najage; en Ik zal aan Farao en aan al zijn heir verheerlijkt worden, alzo dat de Egyptenaars zullen weten, dat Ik de HEERE ben. En zij deden alzo. 5Toen nu de koning van Egypte werd geboodschapt, dat het volk vluchtte, zo is het hart van Farao en van zijn knechten veranderd tegen het volk, en zij zeiden: Waarom hebben wij dat gedaan, dat wij Israel hebben laten trekken, dat zij ons niet dienden? 6En hij spande zijn wagen aan, en nam zijn volk met zich. 7En hij nam zeshonderd uitgelezene wagens, ja, al de wagens van Egypte, en de hoofdlieden over die allen. 8Want de HEERE verstokte het hart van Farao, den koning van Egypte, dat hij de kinderen Israels najaagde; doch de kinderen Israels waren door een hoge hand uitgegaan. 9En de Egyptenaars jaagden hen na, en achterhaalden hen, daar zij zich gelegerd hadden aan de zee; al de paarden, de wagens van Farao en zijn ruiters, en zijn heir; nevens Pi-Hachiroth, voor Baal-Zefon. 10Als Farao nabij gekomen was, zo hieven de kinderen Israels hun ogen op, en ziet, de Egyptenaars togen achter hen; en zij vreesden zeer; toen riepen de kinderen Israels tot den HEERE. 11En zij zeiden tot Mozes: Hebt gij ons daarom, omdat er in Egypte gans geen graven waren, weggenomen, opdat wij in deze woestijn sterven zouden? Waarom hebt gij ons dat gedaan, dat gij ons uit Egypte gevoerd hebt? 12Is dit niet het woord, dat wij in Egypte tot u spraken, zeggende: Houd af van ons, en laat ons de Egyptenaren dienen? Want het ware ons beter geweest de Egyptenaren te dienen, dan in deze woestijn te sterven. 13Doch Mozes zeide tot het volk: Vreest niet, staat vast, en ziet het heil des HEEREN, dat Hij heden aan ulieden doen zal, want de Egyptenaars, die gij heden gezien hebt, zult gij niet weder zien in eeuwigheid. 14De HEERE zal voor ulieden strijden, en gij zult stil zijn. 15Toen zeide de HEERE tot Mozes: Wat roept gij tot Mij? Zeg den kinderen Israels, dat zij voorttrekken. 16En gij, hef uw staf op, en strek uw hand uit over de zee, en klief dezelve, dat de kinderen Israels door het midden der zee gaan op het droge. 17En Ik, zie, Ik zal het hart der Egyptenaren verstokken, dat zij na hen daarin gaan; en Ik zal verheerlijkt worden aan Farao en aan al zijn heir, aan zijn wagenen en aan zijn ruiteren. 18En de Egyptenaars zullen weten, dat Ik de HEERE ben, wanneer Ik verheerlijkt zal worden aan Farao, aan zijn wagenen en aan zijn ruiteren. 19En de Engel Gods, Die voor het heir van Israel ging, vertrok, en ging achter hen; de wolkkolom vertrok ook van hun aangezicht, en stond achter hen. 20En zij kwamen tussen het leger der Egyptenaren, en tussen het leger van Israel; en de wolk was te gelijk duisternis en verlichtte den nacht; zodat de een tot den ander niet naderde den gansen nacht. 21Toen Mozes zijn hand uitstrekte over de zee, zo deed de HEERE de zee weggaan, door een sterken oostenwind, dien gansen nacht, en maakte de zee droog, en de wateren werden gekliefd. 22En de kinderen Israels zijn ingegaan in het midden van de zee, op het droge; en de wateren waren hun een muur, aan hun rechter hand en aan hun linkerhand. 23En de Egyptenaars vervolgden hen, en gingen in, achter hen, al de paarden van Farao, zijn wagenen en zijn ruiteren, in het midden van de zee. 24En het geschiedde in dezelfde morgenwake, dat de HEERE, in de kolom des vuurs en der wolk, zag op het leger der Egyptenaren; en Hij verschrikte het leger der Egyptenaren. 25En Hij stiet de raderen hunner wagenen weg, en deed ze zwaarlijk voortvaren. Toen zeiden de Egyptenaars: Laat ons vlieden van het aangezicht van Israel, want de HEERE strijdt voor hen tegen de Egyptenaars. 26En de HEERE zeide tot Mozes: Strek uw hand uit over de zee, dat de wateren wederkeren over de Egyptenaars, over hun wagenen en over hun ruiters. 27Toen strekte Mozes zijn hand uit over de zee; en de zee kwam weder, tegen het naken van den morgenstond, tot haar kracht; en de Egyptenaars vluchtten die tegemoet; en de HEERE stortte de Egyptenaars in het midden der zee. 28Want als de wateren wederkeerden, zo bedekten zij de wagenen en de ruiters van het ganse heir van Farao, dat hen nagevolgd was in de zee; er bleef niet een van hen over. 29Maar de kinderen Israels gingen op het droge, in het midden der zee; en de wateren waren hun een muur, aan hun rechter hand en aan hun linkerhand. 30Alzo verloste de HEERE Israel aan dien dag uit de hand der Egyptenaren; en Israel zag de Egyptenaren dood aan den oever der zee. 31Ook zag Israel de grote hand, die de HEERE aan de Egyptenaren bewezen had; en het volk vreesde den HEERE, en geloofde in den HEERE, en aan Mozes, Zijn knecht.
