1ENTONCES se echó José sobre el rostro de su padre, y lloró sobre él, y besólo. 2Y mandó José á sus médicos familiares que embalsamasen á su padre: y los médicos embalsamaron á Israel. 3Y cumpliéronle cuarenta días, porque así cumplían los días de los embalsamados, y lloráronlo los Egipcios setenta días. 4Y pasados los días de su luto, habló José á los de la casa de Faraón, diciendo: Si he hallado ahora gracia en vuestros ojos, os ruego que habléis en oídos de Faraón, diciendo: 5Mi padre me conjuró diciendo: He aquí yo muero; en mi sepulcro que yo cavé para mí en la tierra de Canaán, allí me sepultarás; ruego pues que vaya yo ahora, y sepultaré á mi padre, y volveré. 6Y Faraón dijo: Ve, y sepulta á tu padre, como él te conjuró. 7Entonces José subió á sepultar á su padre; y subieron con él todos los siervos de Faraón, los ancianos de su casa, y todos los ancianos de la tierra de Egipto, 8Y toda la casa de José, y sus hermanos, y la casa de su padre: solamente dejaron en la tierra de Gosén sus niños, y sus ovejas y sus vacas. 9Y subieron también con él carros y gente de á caballo, é hízose un escuadrón muy grande. 10Y llegaron hasta la era de Atad, que está á la otra parte del Jordán, y endecharon allí con grande y muy grave lamentación: y José hizo á su padre duelo por siete días. 11Y viendo los moradores de la tierra, los Cananeos, el llanto en la era de Atad, dijeron: Llanto grande es este de los Egipcios: por eso fué llamado su nombre Abelmizraim, que está á la otra parte del Jordán. 12Hicieron, pues, sus hijos con él, según les había mandado: 13Pues lleváronlo sus hijos á la tierra de Canaán, y le sepultaron en la cueva del campo de Macpela, la que había comprado Abraham con el mismo campo, para heredad de sepultura, de Ephrón el Hetheo, delante de Mamre. 14Y tornóse José á Egipto, él y sus hermanos, y todos los que subieron con él á sepultar á su padre, después que le hubo sepultado. 15Y viendo los hermanos de José que su padre era muerto, dijeron: Quizá nos aborrecerá José, y nos dará el pago de todo el mal que le hicimos. 16Y enviaron á decir á José: Tu padre mandó antes de su muerte, diciendo: 17Así diréis á José: Ruégote que perdones ahora la maldad de tus hermanos y su pecado, porque mal te trataron: por tanto ahora te rogamos que perdones la maldad de los siervos del Dios de tu padre. Y José lloró mientras hablaban. 18Y vinieron también sus hermanos, y postráronse delante de él, y dijeron: Henos aquí por tus siervos. 19Y respondióles José: No temáis: ¿estoy yo en lugar de Dios? 20Vosotros pensasteis mal sobre mí, mas Dios lo encaminó á bien, para hacer lo que vemos hoy, para mantener en vida á mucho pueblo. 21Ahora, pues, no tengáis miedo; yo os sustentaré á vosotros y á vuestros hijos. Así los consoló, y les habló al corazón. 22Y estuvo José en Egipto, él y la casa de su padre: y vivió José ciento diez años. 23Y vió José los hijos de Ephraim hasta la tercera generación: también los hijos de Machîr, hijo de Manasés, fueron criados sobre las rodillas de José. 24Y José dijo á sus hermanos: Yo me muero; mas Dios ciertamente os visitará, y os hará subir de aquesta tierra á la tierra que juró á Abraham, á Isaac, y á Jacob. 25Y conjuró José á los hijos de Israel, diciendo: Dios ciertamente os visitará, y haréis llevar de aquí mis huesos. 26Y murió José de edad de ciento diez años; y embalsamáronlo, y fué puesto en un ataúd en Egipto.
1Joseph fell on his father’s face, wept on him, and kissed him. 2Joseph commanded his servants, the physicians, to embalm his father; and the physicians embalmed Israel. 3Forty days were fulfilled for him, for that is how many the days it takes to embalm. The Egyptians wept for him for seventy days. 4When the days of weeping for him were past, Joseph spoke to the house of Pharaoh, saying, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, please speak in the ears of Pharaoh, saying, 5‘My father made me swear, saying, “Behold, I am dying. Bury me in my grave which I have dug for myself in the land of Canaan.” Now therefore, please let me go up and bury my father, and I will come again.’” 6Pharaoh said, “Go up, and bury your father, just like he made you swear.” 7Joseph went up to bury his father; and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, all the elders of the land of Egypt, 8all the house of Joseph, his brothers, and his father’s house. Only their little ones, their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen. 9There went up with him both chariots and horsemen. It was a very great company. 10They came to the threshing floor of Atad, which is beyond the Jordan, and there they lamented with a very great and severe lamentation. He mourned for his father seven days. 11When the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, “This is a grievous mourning by the Egyptians.” Therefore its name was called Abel Mizraim, which is beyond the Jordan. 12His sons did to him just as he commanded them, 13for his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field, for a possession of a burial site, from Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre. 14Joseph returned into Egypt—he, and his brothers, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father. 15When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “It may be that Joseph will hate us, and will fully pay us back for all of the evil which we did to him.” 16They sent a message to Joseph, saying, “Your father commanded before he died, saying, 17‘You shall tell Joseph, “Now please forgive the disobedience of your brothers, and their sin, because they did evil to you.”’ Now, please forgive the disobedience of the servants of the God of your father.” Joseph wept when they spoke to him. 18His brothers also went and fell down before his face; and they said, “Behold, we are your servants.” 19Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for am I in the place of God? 20As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save many people alive. 21Now therefore don’t be afraid. I will nourish you and your little ones.” He comforted them, and spoke kindly to them. 22Joseph lived in Egypt, he, and his father’s house. Joseph lived one hundred ten years. 23Joseph saw Ephraim’s children to the third generation. The children also of Machir, the son of Manasseh, were born on Joseph’s knees. 24Joseph said to his brothers, “I am dying, but God will surely visit you, and bring you up out of this land to the land which he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.” 25Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.” 26So Joseph died, being one hundred ten years old, and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

Nu dan, laat mij toch optrekken, dat ik mijn vader begrave, dan zal ik wederkomen. 6En Farao zeide: Trek op en begraaf uw vader, gelijk als hij u heeft doen zweren. 7En Jozef toog op, om zijn vader te begraven; en met hem togen op alle Farao's knechten, de oudsten van zijn huis, en al de oudsten des lands van Egypte; 8Daartoe het ganse huis van Jozef, en zijn broeders, en het huis zijns vaders; alleen hun kleine kinderen, en hun schapen, en hun runderen lieten zij in het land Gosen. 9En met hem togen op, zo wagenen als ruiteren; en het was een zeer zwaar heir. 10Toen zij nu aan het plein van het doornbos kwamen, dat aan gene zijde van de Jordaan is, hielden zij daar een grote en zeer zware rouwklage; en hij maakte zijn vader een rouw van zeven dagen. 11Als de inwoners des lands, de Kanaanieten, dien rouw zagen op het plein van het doornbos, zo zeiden zij: Dit is een zware rouw der Egyptenaren; daarom noemde men haar naam Abel-Mizraim, die aan het veer van de Jordaan is. 12En zijn zonen deden hem, gelijk als hij hun geboden had; 13Want zijn zonen voerden hem in het land Kanaan, en begroeven hem in de spelonk des akkers van Machpela, welke Abraham met den akker gekocht had tot een erfbegrafenis van Efron, den Hethiet, tegenover Mamre. 14Daarna keerde Jozef weder in Egypte, hij en zijn broeders, en allen, die met hem opgetogen waren, om zijn vader te begraven, nadat hij zijn vader begraven had. 15Toen Jozefs broeders zagen, dat hun vader dood was, zo zeiden zij: Misschien zal ons Jozef haten, en hij zal ons gewisselijk vergelden al het kwaad, dat wij hem aangedaan hebben. 16Daarom ontboden zij aan Jozef, zeggende: Uw vader heeft bevolen voor zijn dood, zeggende: 17Zo zult gij tot Jozef zeggen: Ei, vergeef toch de overtreding uwer broederen, en hun zonde; want zij hebben u kwaad aangedaan; maar nu vergeef toch de overtreding der dienaren van den God uws vaders! En Jozef weende, als zij tot hem spraken. 18Daarna kwamen ook zijn broeders, en vielen voor hem neder, en zeiden: Zie, wij zijn u tot knechten! 19En Jozef zeide tot hen: Vreest niet; want ben ik in de plaats van God? 20Gijlieden wel, gij hebt kwaad tegen mij gedacht; doch God heeft dat ten goede gedacht; opdat Hij deed, gelijk het te dezen dage is, om een groot volk in het leven te behouden. 21Nu dan, vreest niet! Ik zal u en uw kleine kinderen onderhouden. Zo troostte hij hen, en sprak naar hun hart. 22Jozef dan woonde in Egypte, hij en het huis zijns vaders; en Jozef leefde honderd en tien jaren. 23En Jozef zag van Efraim kinderen, van het derde gelid; ook werden de zonen van Machir, den zoon van Manasse, op Jozefs knieen geboren. 24En Jozef zeide tot zijn broederen: Ik sterf; maar God zal u gewisselijk bezoeken, en Hij zal u doen optrekken uit dit land, in het land, hetwelk hij aan Abraham, Izak en Jakob gezworen heeft. 25En Jozef deed de zonen van Israel zweren, zeggende: God zal u gewisselijk bezoeken, zo zult gij mijn beenderen van hier opvoeren! 26En Jozef stierf, honderd en tien jaren oud zijnde; en zij balsemden hem, en men legde hem in een kist in Egypte.
