1Kaj Agripo diris al Paŭlo: Estas permesate al vi paroli por vi mem. Tiam Paŭlo, etendinte sian manon, responde pledis: 2Mi min trovas feliĉa, reĝo Agripo, ke mi respondos antaŭ vi hodiaŭ rilate ĉion, pri kio mi estas akuzita de la Judoj; 3precipe ĉar vi estas klera pri ĉiuj moroj kaj demandoj, kiuj ekzistas ĉe la Judoj; tial mi petegas vin aŭskulti min pacience. 4Mian vivmanieron de post mia juneco, kiu estis de la komenco en mia nacio, en Jerusalem, ĉiuj Judoj scias, 5konante min jam longe, kaj sciante (se ili volus atesti), ke laŭ la plej severa sekto de nia religio mi vivis Fariseo. 6Kaj nun mi staras ĉi tie juĝota pro la espero de la promeso farita de Dio al niaj patroj, 7al kiu promeso niaj dek du triboj, fervore servante Dion nokte kaj tage, esperas atingi. Kaj pri tiu espero mi estas akuzita de la Judoj, ho reĝo! 8Kial oni ĉe vi opinias nekredinde, ke Dio levos la mortintojn? 9Mi mem ja pensis en mi, ke mi devas fari multajn agojn kontraŭ la nomo de Jesuo, la Nazaretano. 10Kaj tion mi ankaŭ faris en Jerusalem; kaj multajn el la sanktuloj en karcerojn mi enŝlosis, ricevinte de la ĉefpastroj la aŭtoritaton, kaj ĉe ilia mortigado mi ilin per voĉdono kondamnis. 11Kaj punante ilin tre ofte en ĉiuj sinagogoj, mi penis devigi ilin blasfemi; kaj forte furiozante kontraŭ ili, mi persekutis ilin eĉ ĝis fremdaj urboj. 12Por tiaj celoj vojaĝante al Damasko kun aŭtoritato kaj komisio de la ĉefpastroj, 13mi vidis tagmeze, ho reĝo, sur la vojo lumon el la ĉielo, superantan la helecon de la suno, brilantan ĉirkaŭ mi kaj miaj kunvojaĝantoj. 14Kaj kiam ni ĉiuj falis sur la teron, mi aŭdis voĉon, dirantan al mi en la Hebrea lingvo: Saŭlo, Saŭlo, kial vi min persekutas? estas malfacile por vi piedbati kontraŭ la pikiloj. 15Kaj mi diris: Kiu vi estas, Sinjoro? Kaj la Sinjoro diris: Mi estas Jesuo, kiun vi persekutas. 16Sed leviĝu, kaj stariĝu sur viaj piedoj; ĉar por tio mi aperis al vi, por difini vin kiel servanton al mi kaj atestanton pri la cirkonstancoj, en kiuj vi jam vidis min, kaj ankaŭ en kiuj mi poste aperos al vi; 17liberigante vin de la popolo kaj de la nacianoj, al kiuj mi vin sendas, 18por malfermi iliajn okulojn, ke ili sin turnu de mallumo al lumo, kaj de la aŭtoritato de Satano al Dio, por ke ili ricevu pardonon de pekoj, kaj heredaĵon inter tiuj, kiuj sanktiĝis per fido al mi. 19Tial, ho reĝo Agripo, mi ne iĝis malobeema al la ĉiela vizio; 20sed proklamis unue al la Damaskanoj, kaj en Jerusalem, kaj tra la tuta regiono de Judujo, kaj ankaŭ al la nacianoj, ke ili pentu kaj sin turnu al Dio, farante farojn indajn je pento. 21Pro ĉi tio la Judoj kaptis min en la templo kaj celis mortigi min. 22Ricevinte do la helpon, kiu estas de Dio, mi staras ĝis la nuna tago, atestante al malgranduloj kaj granduloj, dirante nenion krom tio, kion la profetoj kaj Moseo anoncis kiel venontan: 23ke la Kristo devas suferi, kaj ke li unua per la revivigado de mortintoj proklamos lumon al la popolo kaj al la nacianoj. 24Kaj dum li tiel pledis, Festo diris per laŭta voĉo: Paŭlo, vi frenezas; multe da studado vin frenezigas. 25Sed Paŭlo diris: Mi ne frenezas, plej nobla Festo, sed mi malkaŝe parolas vortojn de vero kaj prudento. 26Ĉar tiujn aferojn tre bone scias la reĝo, al kiu mi parolas maltime; ĉar mi konvinkiĝis, ke nenio el ĉi tio estas kaŝita for de li, ĉar ĉi tio ne estas farita en angulo. 27Reĝo Agripo, ĉu vi kredas la profetojn? mi ja scias, ke vi kredas. 28Kaj Agripo diris al Paŭlo: En mallonga tempo vi konvinkos min fariĝi Kristano. 29Kaj Paŭlo diris: Mi volus preĝi al Dio, ke, ĉu en mallonga aŭ en longa, ne nur vi, sed ankaŭ ĉiuj, kiuj aŭskultas min hodiaŭ, fariĝu tiaj, kia mi estas, krom ĉi tiuj katenoj. 30Kaj stariĝis la reĝo kaj la provincestro kaj Bernike kaj la kunsidantoj; 31kaj apartiĝinte, ili parolis inter si, dirante: Tiu viro faris nenion meritantan morton aŭ katenojn. 32Kaj Agripo diris al Festo: Tiu viro povus esti tuj liberigita, se li ne apelacius al Cezaro.
1Agrippa said to Paul, “You may speak for yourself.” Then Paul stretched out his hand, and made his defense. 2“I think myself happy, King Agrippa, that I am to make my defense before you this day concerning all the things that I am accused by the Jews, 3especially because you are expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews. Therefore I beg you to hear me patiently. 4“Indeed, all the Jews know my way of life from my youth up, which was from the beginning among my own nation and at Jerusalem; 5having known me from the first, if they are willing to testify, that after the strictest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee. 6Now I stand here to be judged for the hope of the promise made by God to our fathers, 7which our twelve tribes, earnestly serving night and day, hope to attain. Concerning this hope I am accused by the Jews, King Agrippa! 8Why is it judged incredible with you, if God does raise the dead? 9“I myself most certainly thought that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. 10This I also did in Jerusalem. I both shut up many of the saints in prisons, having received authority from the chief priests, and when they were put to death I gave my vote against them. 11Punishing them often in all the synagogues, I tried to make them blaspheme. Being exceedingly enraged against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities. 12“Whereupon as I traveled to Damascus with the authority and commission from the chief priests, 13at noon, O king, I saw on the way a light from the sky, brighter than the sun, shining around me and those who traveled with me. 14When we had all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ 15“I said, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ “He said, ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. 16But arise, and stand on your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose: to appoint you a servant and a witness both of the things which you have seen, and of the things which I will reveal to you; 17delivering you from the people, and from the Gentiles, to whom I send you, 18to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’ 19“Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, 20but declared first to them of Damascus, at Jerusalem, and throughout all the country of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, doing works worthy of repentance. 21For this reason the Jews seized me in the temple, and tried to kill me. 22Having therefore obtained the help that is from God, I stand to this day testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses said would happen, 23how the Christ must suffer, and how, by the resurrection of the dead, he would be first to proclaim light both to these people and to the Gentiles.” 24As he thus made his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “Paul, you are crazy! Your great learning is driving you insane!” 25But he said, “I am not crazy, most excellent Festus, but boldly declare words of truth and reasonableness. 26For the king knows of these things, to whom also I speak freely. For I am persuaded that none of these things is hidden from him, for this has not been done in a corner. 27King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know that you believe.” 28Agrippa said to Paul, “With a little persuasion are you trying to make me a Christian?” 29Paul said, “I pray to God, that whether with little or with much, not only you, but also all that hear me this day, might become such as I am, except for these bonds.” 30The king rose up with the governor, and Bernice, and those who sat with them. 31When they had withdrawn, they spoke one to another, saying, “This man does nothing worthy of death or of bonds.” 32Agrippa said to Festus, “This man might have been set free if he had not appealed to Caesar.”
1En Agrippa zeide tot Paulus: Het is u geoorloofd voor uzelven te spreken. Toen strekte Paulus de hand uit, en verantwoordde zich aldus: 2Ik acht mijzelven gelukkig, o koning Agrippa, dat ik mij heden voor u zal verantwoorden van alles, waarover ik van de Joden beschuldigd word; 3Allermeest, dewijl ik weet, dat gij kennis hebt van alle gewoonten en vragen, die onder de Joden zijn. Daarom bid ik u, dat gij mij lankmoediglijk hoort. 4Mijn leven dan van der jonkheid aan, hetwelk van den beginne onder mijn volk te Jeruzalem geweest is, weten al de Joden; 5Als die van over lang mij te voren gekend hebben (indien zij het wilden getuigen), dat ik, naar de bescheidenste sekte van onzen godsdienst, als een Farizeer geleefd heb. 6En nu sta ik, en word geoordeeld over de hoop der belofte, die van God tot de vaderen geschied is; 7Tot dewelke onze twaalf geslachten, geduriglijk nacht en dag God dienende, verhopen te komen; over welke hoop ik, o koning Agrippa, van de Joden word beschuldigd. 8Wat? wordt het bij ulieden ongelofelijk geoordeeld, dat God de doden opwekt? 9Ik meende waarlijk bij mijzelven, dat ik tegen den Naam van Jezus van Nazareth vele wederpartijdige dingen moest doen. 10Hetwelk ik ook gedaan heb te Jeruzalem, en ik heb velen van de heiligen in de gevangenissen gesloten, de macht van de overpriesters ontvangen hebbende; en als zij omgebracht werden, stemde ik het toe. 11En door al de synagogen heb ik hen dikmaals gestraft, en gedwongen te lasteren; en boven mate tegen hen woedende, heb ik hen vervolgd, ook tot in de buiten landse steden. 12Waarover ook als ik naar Damaskus reisde, met macht en last, welk ik van de overpriesters had, 13Zag ik, o koning, in het midden van den dag, op den weg een licht, boven den glans der zon, van den hemel mij en degenen, die met mij reisden, omschijnende. 14En als wij allen ter aarde nedergevallen waren, hoorde ik een stem, tot mij sprekende, en zeggende in de Hebreeuwse taal: Saul, Saul, wat vervolgt gij Mij? Het is u hard, tegen de prikkels de verzenen te slaan. 15En ik zeide: Wie zijt Gij, Heere? En Hij zeide: Ik ben Jezus, Dien gij vervolgt. 16Maar richt u op, en sta op uw voeten; want hiertoe ben Ik u verschenen, om u te stellen tot een dienaar en getuige der dingen, beide die gij gezien hebt en in welke Ik u nog zal verschijnen; 17Verlossende u van dit volk, en van de heidenen, tot dewelke Ik u nu zende; 18Om hun ogen te openen, en hen te bekeren van de duisternis tot het licht, en van de macht des satans tot God; opdat zij vergeving der zonden ontvangen, en een erfdeel onder de geheiligden, door het geloof in Mij. 19Daarom, o koning Agrippa, ben ik dat Hemels gezicht niet ongehoorzaam geweest; 20Maar heb eerst dengenen, die te Damaskus waren, en te Jeruzalem, en in het gehele land van Judea, en den heidenen verkondigd, dat zij zich zouden beteren, en tot God bekeren, werken doende der bekering waardig. 21Om dezer zaken wil hebben mij de Joden in den tempel gegrepen en gepoogd om te brengen. 22Dan, hulp van God verkregen hebbende, sta ik tot op dezen dag, betuigende beiden klein en groot; niets zeggende buiten hetgeen de profeten en Mozes gesproken hebben, dat geschieden zoude: 23Namelijk dat de Christus lijden moest, en dat Hij, de Eerste uit de opstanding der doden zijnde, een licht zou verkondigen dezen volke, en den heidenen. 24En als hij deze dingen tot verantwoording sprak, zeide Festus met grote stem: Gij raast, Paulus, de grote geleerdheid brengt u tot razernij! 25Maar hij zeide: Ik raas niet, machtigste Festus, maar ik spreek woorden van waarheid en van een gezond verstand; 26Want de koning weet van deze dingen, tot welken ik ook vrijmoedigheid gebruikende spreek; want ik geloof niet, dat hem iets van deze dingen verborgen is; want dit is in geen hoek geschied. 27Gelooft gij, o koning Agrippa, de profeten? Ik weet dat gij ze gelooft. 28En Agrippa zeide tot Paulus: Gij beweegt mij bijna een Christen te worden. 29En Paulus zeide: Ik wenste wel van God, dat, en bijna en geheellijk, niet alleen gij, maar ook allen, die mij heden horen, zodanigen wierden, gelijk als ik ben, uitgenomen deze banden. 30En als hij dit gezegd had, stond de koning op, en de stadhouder, en Bernice, en die met hen gezeten waren; 31En aan een zijde gegaan zijnde, spraken zij tot elkander, zeggende: Deze mens doet niets des doods of der banden waardig. 32En Agrippa zeide tot Festus: Deze mens kon losgelaten worden, indien hij zich op den keizer niet had beroepen.
