1Τότε εσηκώθη άπαν το πλήθος αυτών και έφεραν αυτόν προς τον Πιλάτον. 2Και ήρχισαν να κατηγορώσιν αυτόν, λέγοντες· Τούτον εύρομεν διαστρέφοντα το έθνος και εμποδίζοντα το να δίδωσι φόρους εις τον Καίσαρα, λέγοντα εαυτόν ότι είναι Χριστός βασιλεύς. 3Ο δε Πιλάτος ηρώτησεν αυτόν, λέγων· Συ είσαι ο βασιλεύς των Ιουδαίων; Ο δε αποκριθείς προς αυτόν, είπε· Συ λέγεις. 4Και ο Πιλάτος είπε προς τους αρχιερείς και τους όχλους· Ουδέν έγκλημα ευρίσκω εν τω ανθρώπω τούτω. 5Οι δε επέμενον λέγοντες ότι Ταράττει τον λαόν, διδάσκων καθ' όλην την Ιουδαίαν, αρχίσας από της Γαλιλαίας έως εδώ. 6Ο δε Πιλάτος ακούσας Γαλιλαίαν ηρώτησεν αν ο άνθρωπος ήναι Γαλιλαίος, 7και μαθών ότι είναι εκ της επικρατείας του Ηρώδου, έπεμψεν αυτόν προς τον Ηρώδην, όστις ήτο και αυτός εν Ιεροσολύμοις εν ταύταις ταις ημέραις. 8Ο δε Ηρώδης, ιδών τον Ιησούν, εχάρη πολύ· διότι ήθελε προ πολλού να ίδη αυτόν, επειδή ήκουε πολλά περί αυτού και ήλπιζε να ίδη τι θαύμα γινόμενον υπ' αυτού. 9Ηρώτα δε αυτόν με λόγους πολλούς· πλην αυτός δεν απεκρίθη προς αυτόν ουδέν. 10Ίσταντο δε οι αρχιερείς και οι γραμματείς, κατηγορούντες αυτόν εντόνως. 11Αφού δε ο Ηρώδης μετά των στρατευμάτων αυτού εξουθένησεν αυτόν και ενέπαιξεν, ενέδυσεν αυτόν λαμπρόν ιμάτιον και έπεμψεν αυτόν πάλιν προς τον Πιλάτον. 12Εν αυτή δε τη ημέρα ο Πιλάτος και ο Ηρώδης έγειναν φίλοι μετ' αλλήλων· διότι πρότερον ήσαν εις έχθραν προς αλλήλους. 13Ο δε Πιλάτος, συγκαλέσας τους αρχιερείς και τους άρχοντας και τον λαόν, 14είπε προς αυτούς· Εφέρατε προς εμέ τον άνθρωπον τούτον ως στασιάζοντα τον λαόν, και ιδού, εγώ ενώπιόν σας ανακρίνας δεν εύρον εν τω ανθρώπω τούτω ουδέν έγκλημα εξ όσων κατηγορείτε κατ' αυτού, 15αλλ' ουδέ ο Ηρώδης, διότι σας έπεμψα προς αυτόν· και ιδού, ουδέν άξιον θανάτου είναι πεπραγμένον υπ' αυτού. 16Αφού λοιπόν παιδεύσω αυτόν, θέλω απολύσει. 17Έπρεπε δε αναγκαίως να απολύη εις αυτούς ένα εν τη εορτή. 18Πάντες δε ομού ανέκραξαν, λέγοντες· Σήκωσον τούτον, απόλυσον δε εις ημάς τον Βαραββάν· 19όστις διά στάσιν τινά γενομένην εν τη πόλει και διά φόνον ήτο βεβλημένος εις φυλακήν. 20Πάλιν λοιπόν ο Πιλάτος ελάλησε προς αυτούς, θέλων να απολύση τον Ιησούν. 21Οι δε εφώναζον, λέγοντες· Σταύρωσον, σταύρωσον αυτόν. 22Ο δε και τρίτην φοράν είπε προς αυτούς· Και τι κακόν έπραξεν ούτος; ουδεμίαν αιτίαν θανάτου εύρον εν αυτώ· αφού λοιπόν παιδεύσω αυτόν, θέλω απολύσει. 23Αλλ' εκείνοι επέμενον, με φωνάς μεγάλας ζητούντες να σταυρωθή, και αι φωναί αυτών και των αρχιερέων υπερίσχυον. 24Και ο Πιλάτος απεφάσισε να γείνη το ζήτημα αυτών, 25και απέλυσεν εις αυτούς τον διά στάσιν και φόνον βεβλημένον εις την φυλακήν, τον οποίον εζήτουν, τον δε Ιησούν παρέδωκεν εις το θέλημα αυτών. 26Και καθώς έφεραν αυτόν έξω, επίασαν Σίμωνα τινά Κυρηναίον, ερχόμενον από του αγρού, και έθεσαν επάνω αυτού τον σταυρόν, διά να φέρη αυτόν όπισθεν του Ιησού. 27Ηκολούθει δε αυτόν πολύ πλήθος του λαού και γυναικών, αίτινες και ωδύροντο και εθρήνουν αυτόν. 28Στραφείς δε προς αυτάς ο Ιησούς, είπε· θυγατέρες της Ιερουσαλήμ, μη κλαίετε δι' εμέ, αλλά δι' εαυτάς κλαίετε και διά τα τέκνα σας. 29Διότι ιδού, έρχονται ημέραι καθ' ας θέλουσιν ειπεί· Μακάριαι αι στείραι και αι κοιλίαι, αίτινες δεν εγέννησαν, και οι μαστοί, οίτινες δεν εθήλασαν. 30Τότε θέλουσιν αρχίσει να λέγωσιν εις τα όρη, Πέσετε εφ' ημάς, και εις τα βουνά, Σκεπάσατε ημάς· 31διότι εάν εις το υγρόν ξύλον πράττωσι ταύτα, τι θέλει γείνει εις το ξηρόν; 32Εφέροντο δε και άλλοι δύο μετ' αυτού, οίτινες ήσαν κακούργοι διά να θανατωθώσι. 33Και ότε ήλθον εις τον τόπον τον ονομαζόμενον Κρανίον, εκεί εσταύρωσαν αυτόν και τους κακούργους, τον μεν εκ δεξιών, τον δε εξ αριστερών. 34Ο δε Ιησούς έλεγε· Πάτερ, συγχώρησον αυτούς· διότι δεν εξεύρουσι τι πράττουσι. Διαμεριζόμενοι δε τα ιμάτια αυτού, έβαλον κλήρον. 35Και ίστατο ο λαός θεωρών. Ενέπαιζον δε και οι άρχοντες μετ' αυτών, λέγοντες· Άλλους έσωσεν, ας σώση αυτόν, εάν ούτος ήναι ο Χριστός ο εκλεκτός του Θεού. 36Ενέπαιζον δε αυτόν και οι στρατιώται, πλησιάζοντες και προσφέροντες όξος εις αυτόν 37και λέγοντες· Εάν συ ήσαι ο βασιλεύς των Ιουδαίων, σώσον σεαυτόν. 38Ήτο δε και επιγραφή γεγραμμένη επάνωθεν αυτού με γράμματα Ελληνικά και Ρωμαϊκά και Εβραϊκά· Ούτος εστίν ο Βασιλεύς των Ιουδαίων. 39Εις δε των κρεμασθέντων κακούργων εβλασφήμει αυτόν, λέγων· Εάν συ ήσαι ο Χριστός, σώσον σεαυτόν και ημάς. 40Αποκριθείς δε ο άλλος, επέπληττεν αυτόν, λέγων· Ουδέ τον Θεόν δεν φοβείσαι συ, όστις είσαι εν τη αυτή καταδίκη; 41και ημείς μεν δικαίως· διότι άξια των όσα επράξαμεν απολαμβάνομεν· ούτος όμως ουδέν άτοπον έπραξε. 42Και έλεγε προς τον Ιησούν· Μνήσθητί μου, Κύριε, όταν έλθης εν τη βασιλεία σου. 43Και είπε προς αυτόν ο Ιησούς· Αληθώς σοι λέγω, σήμερον θέλεις είσθαι μετ' εμού εν τω παραδείσω. 44Ήτο δε ως έκτη ώρα και έγεινε σκότος εφ' όλην την γην έως ώρας εννάτης, 45και εσκοτίσθη ο ήλιος και εσχίσθη εις το μέσον το καταπέτασμα του ναού· 46και φωνάξας με φωνήν μεγάλην ο Ιησούς είπε· Πάτερ, εις χείρας σου παραδίδω το πνεύμά μου· και ταύτα ειπών εξέπνευσεν. 47Ιδών δε ο εκατόνταρχος το γενόμενον, εδόξασε τον Θεόν, λέγων· Όντως ο άνθρωπος ούτος ήτο δίκαιος. 48Και πάντες οι όχλοι οι συνελθόντες εις την θεωρίαν ταύτην, βλέποντες τα γενόμενα, υπέστρεφον τύπτοντες τα στήθη αυτών. 49Ίσταντο δε μακρόθεν πάντες οι γνωστοί αυτού, και αι γυναίκες αίτινες συνηκολούθησαν αυτόν από της Γαλιλαίας, και έβλεπον ταύτα. 50Και ιδού, ανήρ τις Ιωσήφ το όνομα, όστις ήτο βουλευτής, ανήρ αγαθός και δίκαιος, 51ούτος δεν ήτο σύμφωνος με την βουλήν και την πράξιν αυτών, από Αριμαθαίας πόλεως των Ιουδαίων, όστις και αυτός περιέμενε την βασιλείαν του Θεού, 52ούτος ελθών προς τον Πιλάτον, εζήτησε το σώμα του Ιησού, 53και καταβιβάσας αυτό ετύλιξεν αυτό με σινδόνα και έθεσεν αυτό εν μνημείω λελατομημένω· όπου ουδείς έτι είχεν ενταφιασθή. 54Και ήτο ημέρα παρασκευή, και εξημέρονε σάββατον. 55Ηκολούθησαν δε και γυναίκες, αίτινες είχον ελθεί μετ' αυτού από της Γαλιλαίας, και είδον το μνημείον και πως ετέθη το σώμα αυτού. 56Και αφού υπέστρεψαν ητοίμασαν αρώματα και μύρα. Και το μεν σάββατον ησύχασαν κατά την εντολήν.
1The whole company of them rose up and brought him before Pilate. 2They began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man perverting the nation, forbidding paying taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.” 3Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” He answered him, “So you say.” 4Pilate said to the chief priests and the multitudes, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.” 5But they insisted, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place.” 6But when Pilate heard Galilee mentioned, he asked if the man was a Galilean. 7When he found out that he was in Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem during those days. 8Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad, for he had wanted to see him for a long time, because he had heard many things about him. He hoped to see some miracle done by him. 9He questioned him with many words, but he gave no answers. 10The chief priests and the scribes stood, vehemently accusing him. 11Herod with his soldiers humiliated him and mocked him. Dressing him in luxurious clothing, they sent him back to Pilate. 12Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before that they were enemies with each other. 13Pilate called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, 14and said to them, “You brought this man to me as one that perverts the people, and see, I have examined him before you, and found no basis for a charge against this man concerning those things of which you accuse him. 15Neither has Herod, for I sent you to him, and see, nothing worthy of death has been done by him. 16I will therefore chastise him and release him.” 17Now he had to release one prisoner to them at the feast. 18But they all cried out together, saying, “Away with this man! Release to us Barabbas!”— 19one who was thrown into prison for a certain revolt in the city, and for murder. 20Then Pilate spoke to them again, wanting to release Jesus, 21but they shouted, saying, “Crucify! Crucify him!” 22He said to them the third time, “Why? What evil has this man done? I have found no capital crime in him. I will therefore chastise him and release him.” 23But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. Their voices and the voices of the chief priests prevailed. 24Pilate decreed that what they asked for should be done. 25He released him who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus up to their will. 26When they led him away, they grabbed one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it after Jesus. 27A great multitude of the people followed him, including women who also mourned and lamented him. 28But Jesus, turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, don’t weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. 29For behold, the days are coming in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.’ 30Then they will begin to tell the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ and tell the hills, ‘Cover us.’ 31For if they do these things in the green tree, what will be done in the dry?” 32There were also others, two criminals, led with him to be put to death. 33When they came to the place that is called The Skull, they crucified him there with the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left. 34Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” Dividing his garments among them, they cast lots. 35The people stood watching. The rulers with them also scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others. Let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen one!” 36The soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar, 37and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!” 38An inscription was also written over him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: “THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.” 39One of the criminals who was hanged insulted him, saying, “If you are the Christ, save yourself and us!” 40But the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Don’t you even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? 41And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong.” 42He said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” 43Jesus said to him, “Assuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” 44It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour. 45The sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two. 46Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” Having said this, he breathed his last. 47When the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, “Certainly this was a righteous man.” 48All the multitudes that came together to see this, when they saw the things that were done, returned home beating their breasts. 49All his acquaintances, and the women who followed with him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things. 50Behold, a man named Joseph, who was a member of the council, a good and righteous man 51(he had not consented to their counsel and deed), from Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who was also waiting for the Kingdom of God: 52this man went to Pilate, and asked for Jesus’ body. 53He took it down, and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb that was cut in stone, where no one had ever been laid. 54It was the day of the Preparation, and the Sabbath was drawing near. 55The women, who had come with him out of Galilee, followed after, and saw the tomb, and how his body was laid. 56They returned, and prepared spices and ointments. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

Zo zal ik Hem dan kastijden en loslaten. 23Maar zij hielden aan met groot geroep, eisende, dat Hij zou gekruist worden; en hun en der overpriesteren geroep werd geweldiger. 24En Pilatus oordeelde, dat hun eis geschieden zou. 25En hij liet hun los dengene, die om oproer en doodslag in de gevangenis geworpen was, welken zij geeist hadden; maar Jezus gaf hij over tot hun wil. 26En als zij Hem wegleidden, namen zij een Simon van Cyrene, komende van den akker, en legden hem het kruis op, dat hij het achter Jezus droeg. 27En een grote menigte van volk en van vrouwen volgde Hem, welke ook weenden en Hem beklaagden. 28En Jezus, Zich tot haar kerende zeide: Gij dochters van Jeruzalem! weent niet over Mij, maar weent over uzelven, en over uw kinderen. 29Want ziet, er komen dagen, in welke men zeggen zal: Zalig zijn de onvruchtbaren, en de buiken, die niet gebaard hebben, en de borsten, die niet gezoogd hebben. 30Alsdan zullen zij beginnen te zeggen tot de bergen: Valt op ons; en tot de heuvelen: Bedekt ons. 31Want indien zij dit doen aan het groene hout, wat zal aan het dorre geschieden? 32En er werden ook twee anderen, zijnde kwaaddoeners, geleid, om met Hem gedood te worden. 33En toen zij kwamen op de plaats genaamd Hoofdschedel plaats, kruisigden zij Hem aldaar, en de kwaaddoeners, den een ter rechter zijde en den ander ter linker zijde. 34En Jezus zeide: Vader, vergeef het hun; want zij weten niet, wat zij doen. En verdelende Zijn klederen, wierpen zij het lot. 35En het volk stond en zag het aan. En ook de oversten met hen beschimpten Hem, zeggende: Anderen heeft Hij verlost, dat Hij nu Zichzelven verlosse, zo Hij is de Christus, de Uitverkorene Gods. 36En ook de krijgsknechten, tot Hem komende, bespotten Hem, en brachten Hem edik; 37En zeiden: Indien gij de Koning der Joden zijt, zo verlos Uzelven. 38En er was ook een opschrift boven Hem geschreven, met Griekse, en Romeinse en Hebreeuwse letters: DEZE Is De KONING DER JODEN. 39En een der kwaaddoeners, die gehangen waren, lasterde Hem, zeggende: Indien Gij de Christus zijt, verlos Uzelven en ons. 40Maar de andere, antwoordende, bestrafte hem, zeggende: Vreest gij ook God niet, daar gij in hetzelfde oordeel zijt? 41En wij toch rechtvaardiglijk; want wij ontvangen straf, waardig hetgeen wij gedaan hebben; maar Deze heeft niets onbehoorlijks gedaan. 42En hij zeide tot Jezus: Heere, gedenk mijner, als Gij in Uw Koninkrijk zult gekomen zijn. 43En Jezus zeide tot hem: Voorwaar, zeg Ik u: Heden zult gij met Mij in het Paradijs zijn. 44En het was omtrent de zesde ure, en er werd duisternis over de gehele aarde, tot de negende ure toe. 45En de zon werd verduisterd, en het voorhangsel des tempels scheurde midden door. 46En Jezus, roepende met grote stemme, zeide: Vader, in Uw handen beveel Ik Mijn geest. En als Hij dat gezegd had, gaf Hij den geest. 47Als nu de hoofdman over honderd zag, wat er geschied was, verheerlijkte hij God, en zeide: Waarlijk, deze Mens was rechtvaardig. 48En al de scharen, die samengekomen waren om dit te aanschouwen, ziende de dingen, die geschied waren, keerden wederom, slaande op hun borsten. 49En al Zijn bekenden stonden van verre, ook de vrouwen, die Hem te zamen gevolgd waren van Galilea, en zagen dit aan. 50En zie, een man, met name Jozef, zijnde een raadsheer, een goed en rechtvaardig man, 51(Deze had niet mede bewilligd in hun raad en handel) van Arimathea, een stad der Joden, en die ook zelf het Koninkrijk Gods verwachtte; 52Deze ging tot Pilatus, en begeerde het lichaam van Jezus. 53En als hij hetzelve afgenomen had, wond hij dat in een fijn lijnwaad, en legde het in een graf, in een rots gehouwen, waarin nog nooit iemand gelegd was. 54En het was de dag der voorbereiding, en de sabbat kwam aan. 55En ook de vrouwen, die met Hem gekomen waren uit Galilea, volgden na en aanschouwden het graf, en hoe Zijn lichaam gelegd werd. 56En wedergekeerd zijnde, bereidden zij specerijen en zalven; en op den sabbat rustten zij naar het gebod.
