1Ο δε Νεεμάν, ο στρατηγός του βασιλέως της Συρίας, ήτο ανήρ μέγας ενώπιον του κυρίου αυτού και τιμώμενος, επειδή ο Κύριος δι' αυτού έδωκε σωτηρίαν εις την Συρίαν· και ο άνθρωπος ήτο δυνατός εν ισχύϊ, λεπρός όμως. 2Εξήλθον δε οι Σύριοι κατά τάγματα και έφερον αιχμάλωτον εκ της γης του Ισραήλ μικράν τινά κόρην· και υπηρέτει την γυναίκα του Νεεμάν. 3Και είπε προς την κυρίαν αυτής, Είθε να ήτο ο κύριός μου έμπροσθεν του προφήτου του εν Σαμαρεία, διότι ήθελεν ιατρεύσει αυτόν από της λέπρας αυτού. 4Και εισελθών ο Νεεμάν απήγγειλε προς τον κύριον αυτού, λέγων, Ούτω και ούτως ελάλησεν η κόρη η εκ της γης του Ισραήλ. 5Και είπεν ο βασιλεύς της Συρίας, Ελθέ, ύπαγε, και θέλω στείλει επιστολήν προς τον βασιλέα του Ισραήλ. Και ανεχώρησε και έλαβεν εν τη χειρί αυτού δέκα τάλαντα αργυρίου και εξ χιλιάδας χρυσούς και δέκα αλλαγάς ενδυμάτων· 6Και έφερε την επιστολήν προς τον βασιλέα του Ισραήλ, λέγουσαν, Και τώρα καθώς έλθη επιστολή αύτη προς σε, ιδού, έστειλα προς σε Νεεμάν τον δούλον μου, διά να ιατρεύσης αυτόν από της λέπρας αυτού. 7Και καθώς ανέγνωσεν ο βασιλεύς του Ισραήλ την επιστολήν, διέσχισε τα ιμάτια αυτού, και είπε, Θεός είμαι εγώ, διά να θανατόνω και να ζωοποιώ, ώστε ούτος στέλλει προς εμέ να ιατρεύσω άνθρωπον από της λέπρας αυτού; γνωρίσατε λοιπόν, παρακαλώ, και ιδέτε ότι ούτος ζητεί πρόφασιν εναντίον μου. 8Ως δε ήκουσεν ο Ελισσαιέ, ο άνθρωπος του Θεού, ότι ο βασιλεύς του Ισραήλ διέσχισε τα ιμάτια αυτού, απέστειλε προς τον βασιλέα, λέγων, Διά τι διέσχισας τα ιμάτιά σου; ας έλθη τώρα προς εμέ, και θέλει γνωρίσει ότι είναι προφήτης εν τω Ισραήλ. 9Τότε ήλθεν ο Νεεμάν μετά των ίππων αυτού και μετά της αμάξης αυτού, και εστάθη εις την θύραν της οικίας του Ελισσαιέ. 10Και απέστειλε προς αυτόν ο Ελισσαιέ μηνυτήν, λέγων, Ύπαγε και λούσθητι επτάκις εν τω Ιορδάνη, και θέλει επανέλθει η σαρξ σου εις σε, και θέλεις καθαρισθή. 11Ο δε Νεεμάν εθυμώθη και ανεχώρησε και είπεν, Ιδού, εγώ έλεγον, Θέλει βεβαίως εξέλθει προς εμέ και θέλει σταθή και επικαλεσθή το όνομα Κυρίου του Θεού αυτού, και διακινήσει την χείρα αυτού επί τον τόπον και ιατρεύσει τον λεπρόν· 12ο Αβανά και ο Φαρφάρ, ποταμοί της Δαμασκού, δεν είναι καλήτεροι υπέρ πάντα τα ύδατα του Ισραήλ; δεν ηδυνάμην να λουσθώ εν αυτοίς και να καθαρισθώ; Και στραφείς, ανεχώρησε μετά θυμού. 13Επλησίασαν δε οι δούλοι αυτού και ελάλησαν προς αυτόν και είπον· Πάτερ μου, εάν ο προφήτης ήθελε σοι ειπεί μέγα πράγμα, δεν ήθελες κάμει αυτό; πόσω μάλλον τώρα, όταν σοι λέγη, Λούσθητι και καθαρίσθητι; 14Τότε κατέβη και εβυθίσθη επτάκις εις τον Ιορδάνην, κατά τον λόγον του ανθρώπου του Θεού· και η σαρξ αυτού αποκατέστη ως σαρξ παιδίου μικρού, και εκαθαρίσθη. 15Και επέστρεψε προς τον άνθρωπον του Θεού, αυτός και πάσα η συνοδία αυτού, και ήλθε και εστάθη έμπροσθεν αυτού· και είπεν, Ιδού, τώρα εγνώρισα ότι δεν είναι Θεός εν πάση τη γη, ειμή εν τω Ισραήλ· όθεν τώρα δέχθητι, παρακαλώ, δώρον παρά του δούλου σου. 16Ο δε είπε, Ζη Κύριος, ενώπιον του οποίον παρίσταμαι, δεν θέλω δεχθή. Ο δε εβίαζεν αυτόν να δεχθή, αλλά δεν έστερξε. 17Και είπεν ο Νεεμάν, Και αν μη, ας δοθή, παρακαλώ, εις τον δούλον σου δύο ημιόνων φορτίον εκ του χώματος τούτου, διότι ο δούλός σου δεν θέλει προσφέρει εις το εξής ολοκαύτωμα ουδέ θυσίαν εις άλλους θεούς, παρά μόνον εις τον Κύριον· 18περί τούτου του πράγματος ας συγχωρήση ο Κύριος τον δούλον σου, ότι, όταν εισέρχηται ο κύριός μου εις τον οίκον του Ριμμών διά να προσκυνήση εκεί, και στηρίζηται επί την χείρα μου, και εγώ κλίνω εμαυτόν εν τω οίκω του Ριμμών, ενώ κλίνω εμαυτόν εν τω οίκω του Ριμμών, ο Κύριος ας συγχωρήση τον δούλον σου περί του πράγματος τούτου 19Και είπε προς αυτόν, Ύπαγε εν ειρήνη. Και ανεχώρησεν απ' αυτού μικρόν τι διάστημα. 20Είπε δε ο Γιεζεί, ο υπηρέτης του Ελισσαιέ του ανθρώπου του Θεού, Ιδού, εφείσθη ο κύριός μου του Νεεμάν τούτου του Συρίου, ώστε να μη λάβη εκ της χειρός αυτού εκείνο το οποίον έφερε· πλην, ζη Κύριος, εγώ θέλω τρέξει κατόπιν αυτού και θέλω λάβει τι παρ' αυτού. 21Και έτρεξεν ο Γιεζεί κατόπιν του Νεεμάν. Και ότε είδεν αυτόν ο Νεεμάν τρέχοντα κατόπιν αυτού, επήδησεν εκ της αμάξης εις συνάντησιν αυτού και είπε, Καλώς έχετε; 22Ο δε είπε, Καλώς· ο κύριός μου με απέστειλε, λέγων, Ιδού, ταύτην την ώραν ήλθον προς εμέ, εκ του όρους Εφραΐμ, δύο νέοι εκ των υιών των προφητών· δος εις αυτούς, παρακαλώ, εν τάλαντον αργυρίου και δύο αλλαγάς ενδυμάτων. 23Και είπεν ο Νεεμάν, Λάβε ευχαρίστως δύο τάλαντα. Και εβίασεν αυτόν, και έδωσε τα δύο τάλαντα του αργυρίου εις δύο θυλάκια, μετά δύο αλλαγών ενδυμάτων· και επέθεσεν αυτά εις δύο εκ των δούλων αυτού, και εβάσταζον αυτά έμπροσθεν αυτού. 24Και ότε ήλθεν εις Οφήλ, έλαβεν αυτά εκ των χειρών αυτών και εφύλαξεν εν τω οίκω· και απέλυσε τους άνδρας, και ανεχώρησαν. 25Αυτός δε εισήλθε και εστάθη έμπροσθεν του κυρίου αυτού. Και είπε προς αυτόν ο Ελισσαιέ, Πόθεν, Γιεζεί; Ο δε είπεν, Ο δούλός σου δεν υπήγε πούποτε. 26Και είπε προς αυτόν, Δεν υπήγεν η καρδία μου μετά σου, ότε ο άνθρωπος επέστρεψεν από της αμάξης αυτού εις συνάντησίν σου; είναι καιρός να λάβης αργύριον και να λάβης ιμάτια και ελαιώνας και αμπελώνας και πρόβατα και βόας και δούλους και δούλας; 27διά τούτο η λέπρα του Νεεμάν θέλει κολληθή εις σε και εις το σπέρμα σου εις τον αιώνα. Και εξήλθεν απ' έμπροσθεν αυτού λελεπρωμένος ως χιών.
1Now Naaman, captain of the army of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honorable, because by him Yahweh had given victory to Syria: he was also a mighty man of valor, but he was a leper. 2The Syrians had gone out in bands, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maiden; and she waited on Naaman’s wife. 3She said to her mistress, “I wish that my lord were with the prophet who is in Samaria! Then he would heal him of his leprosy.” 4Someone went in, and told his lord, saying, “The maiden who is from the land of Israel said this.” 5The king of Syria said, “Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel.” He departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of clothing. 6He brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, “Now when this letter has come to you, behold, I have sent Naaman my servant to you, that you may heal him of his leprosy.” 7When the king of Israel had read the letter, he tore his clothes, and said, “Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man sends to me to heal a man of his leprosy? But please consider and see how he seeks a quarrel against me.” 8It was so, when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, “Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.” 9So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariots, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha. 10Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall come again to you, and you shall be clean.” 11But Naaman was angry, and went away, and said, “Behold, I thought, ‘He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of Yahweh his God, and wave his hand over the place, and heal the leper.’ 12Aren’t Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Couldn’t I wash in them, and be clean?” So he turned and went away in a rage. 13His servants came near, and spoke to him, and said, “My father, if the prophet had asked you do some great thing, wouldn’t you have done it? How much rather then, when he says to you, ‘Wash, and be clean?’” 14Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean. 15He returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him; and he said, “See now, I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel. Now therefore, please take a gift from your servant.” 16But he said, “As Yahweh lives, before whom I stand, I will receive none.” He urged him to take it; but he refused. 17Naaman said, “If not, then, please let two mules’ burden of earth be given to your servant; for your servant will from now on offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice to other gods, but to Yahweh. 18In this thing may Yahweh pardon your servant: when my master goes into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leans on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon. When I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, may Yahweh pardon your servant in this thing.” 19He said to him, “Go in peace.” So he departed from him a little way. 20But Gehazi the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, “Behold, my master has spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought. As Yahweh lives, I will run after him, and take something from him.” 21So Gehazi followed after Naaman. When Naaman saw one running after him, he came down from the chariot to meet him, and said, “Is all well?” 22He said, “All is well. My master has sent me, saying, ‘Behold, even now two young men of the sons of the prophets have come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two changes of clothing.’” 23Naaman said, “Be pleased to take two talents.” He urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of clothing, and laid them on two of his servants; and they carried them before him. 24When he came to the hill, he took them from their hand, and stored them in the house. Then he let the men go, and they departed. 25But he went in, and stood before his master. Elisha said to him, “Where did you come from, Gehazi?” He said, “Your servant went nowhere.” 26He said to him, “Didn’t my heart go with you, when the man turned from his chariot to meet you? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and olive groves and vineyards, and sheep and cattle, and male servants and female servants? 27Therefore the leprosy of Naaman will cling to you and to your seed forever.” He went out from his presence a leper, as white as snow.

En hij ging heen, en nam in zijn hand tien talenten zilvers, en zes duizend sikkelen gouds, en tien wisselklederen. 6En hij bracht den brief tot den koning van Israel, zeggende: Zo wanneer nu deze brief tot u zal gekomen zijn, zie, ik heb mijn knecht Naaman tot u gezonden, dat gij hem ontledigt van zijn melaatsheid. 7En het geschiedde, als de koning van Israel den brief gelezen had, dat hij zijn klederen scheurde, en zeide: Ben ik dan God, om te doden en levend te maken, dat deze tot mij zendt, om een man van zijn melaatsheid te ontledigen? Want voorwaar, merkt toch, en ziet, dat hij oorzaak tegen mij zoekt. 8Maar het geschiedde, als Elisa, de man Gods, gehoord had, dat de koning van Israel zijn klederen gescheurd had, dat hij tot den koning zond, om te zeggen: Waarom hebt gij uw klederen gescheurd? Laat hem nu tot mij komen, zo zal hij weten, dat er een profeet in Israel is. 9Alzo kwam Naaman met zijn paarden en met zijn wagen, en stond voor de deur van het huis van Elisa. 10Toen zond Elisa tot hem een bode, zeggende: Ga heen en was u zevenmaal in de Jordaan, en uw vlees zal u wederkomen, en gij zult rein zijn. 11Maar Naaman werd zeer toornig, en toog weg, en zeide: Zie, ik zeide bij mijzelven: Hij zal zekerlijk uitkomen, en staan, en den Naam des HEEREN, Zijns Gods, aanroepen, en zijn hand over de plaats strijken, en den melaatse ontledigen. 12Zijn niet Abana en Farpar, de rivieren van Damaskus, beter dan alle wateren van Israel; zou ik mij in die niet kunnen wassen en rein worden? Zo wendde hij zich, en toog weg met grimmigheid. 13Toen traden zijn knechten toe, en spraken tot hem, en zeiden: Mijn vader, zo die profeet tot u een grote zaak gesproken had, zoudt gij ze niet gedaan hebben? Hoeveel te meer, naardien hij tot u gezegd heeft: Was u, en gij zult rein zijn? 14Zo klom hij af, en doopte zich in de Jordaan zevenmaal, naar het woord van den man Gods; en zijn vlees kwam weder, gelijk het vlees van een kleinen jongen; en hij werd rein. 15Toen keerde hij weder tot den man Gods, hij en zijn ganse heir, en kwam, en stond voor zijn aangezicht en zeide: Zie, nu weet ik, dat er geen God is op de ganse aarde, dan in Israel! Nu dan, neem toch een zegen van uw knecht. 16Maar hij zeide: Zo waarachtig als de HEERE leeft, voor Wiens aangezicht ik sta, indien ik het neme! En hij hield bij hem aan, opdat hij het nam, doch hij weigerde het. 17En Naaman zeide: Zo niet; laat toch uw knecht gegeven worden een last aarde van een juk muildieren; want uw knecht zal niet meer brandoffer of slachtoffer aan andere goden doen, maar den HEERE. 18In deze zaak vergeve de HEERE uw knecht: wanneer mijn heer in het huis van Rimmon zal gaan, om zich daar neder te buigen, en hij op mijn hand leunen zal en ik mij in het huis van Rimmon nederbuigen zal; als ik mij alzo nederbuigen zal in het huis van Rimmon, de HEERE vergeve toch uw knecht in deze zaak. 19En hij zeide tot hem: Ga in vrede. En hij ging van hem een kleine streek lands. 20Gehazi nu, de jongen van Elisa, den man Gods, zeide: Zie, mijn heer heeft Naaman, dien Syrier belet, dat men uit zijn hand niet genomen heeft, wat hij gebracht had; maar zo waarachtig als de HEERE leeft, ik zal hem nalopen, en zal wat van hem nemen! 21Zo volgde Gehazi Naaman achterna. En toen Naaman zag, dat hij hem naliep, viel hij van den wagen af, hem tegemoet, en hij zeide: Is het wel? 22En hij zeide: Het is wel; mijn heer heeft mij gezonden, om te zeggen: Zie, nu straks zijn tot mij twee jongelingen uit de zonen der profeten, van het gebergte van Efraim gekomen; geef hun toch een talent zilvers en twee wisselklederen. 23En Naaman zeide: Belieft het u, neem twee talenten. En hij hield aan bij hem, en bond twee talenten zilvers in twee buidels, met twee wisselklederen, en hij legde ze op twee van zijn jongens, die ze voor zijn aangezicht droegen. 24Als hij nu op de hoogte kwam, nam hij ze van hun hand, en bestelde ze in een huis; en hij liet de mannen gaan, en zij togen heen. 25Daarna kwam hij in, en stond voor zijn heer. En Elisa zeide tot hem: Van waar, Gehazi? En hij zeide: Uw knecht is noch herwaarts noch derwaarts gegaan. 26Maar hij zeide tot hem: Ging niet mijn hart mede, als die man zich omkeerde van op zijn wagen u tegemoet? Was het tijd, om dat zilver te nemen, en om klederen te nemen, en olijfbomen, en wijngaarden, en schapen, en runderen, en knechten, en dienstmaagden? 27Daarom zal u de melaatsheid van Naaman aankleven, en uw zaad in eeuwigheid! Toen ging hij uit van voor zijn aangezicht, melaats, wit als de sneeuw.
