Truyền Đạo 11

1Hãy liệng bánh ngươi nơi mặt nước, vì khỏi lâu ngày ngươi sẽ tìm nó lại. 2Hãy phân phát nó cho bảy hoặc cho tám người; vì ngươi không biết tai nạn nào sẽ xảy ra trên đất. 3Khi mây đầy nước, nó bèn mưa xuống đất; khi một cây ngã về hướng nam hay về hướng bắc, hễ ngã chỗ nào nó phải ở chỗ đó. 4Ai xem gió sẽ không gieo; ai xem mây sẽ không gặt. 5Người không biết đường của gió đi, cũng không biết xương cốt kết cấu trong bụng đờn bà mang thai thể nào, thì cũng một thể ấy, ngươi chẳng hiểu biết công việc của Ðức Chúa Trời, là Ðấng làm nên muôn vật. 6Vừa sáng sớm, khá gieo giống ngươi, và buổi chiều, chớ nghỉ tay ngươi; vì ngươi chẳng biết giống nào sẽ mọc tốt, hoặc giống nầy, hoặc giống kia, hoặc là cả hai đều sẽ ra tốt. 7Ánh sáng thật là êm dịu; con mắt thấy mặt trời lấy làm vui thích. 8Nếu một người được sống lâu năm, thì khá vui vẻ trong trọn các năm ấy; song cũng chớ quên những ngày tối tăm, vì những ngày ấy nhiều. Phàm việc gì xảy đến đều là sự hư không. 9Hỡi kẻ trẻ kia, hãy vui mừng trong buổi thiếu niên, khá đem lòng hớn hở trong khi còn thơ ấu, hãy đi theo đường lối lòng mình muốn, và nhìn xem sự mắt mình ưa thích, nhưng phải biết rằng vì mọi việc ấy, Ðức Chúa Trời sẽ đòi ngươi đến mà đoán xét. 10Vậy, khá giải sầu khỏi lòng ngươi, và cất điều tai hại khỏi xác thịt ngươi; vì lúc thiếu niên và thì xuân xanh là sự hư không mà thôi.

1Cast your bread on the waters; for you shall find it after many days. 2Give a portion to seven, yes, even to eight; for you don’t know what evil will be on the earth. 3If the clouds are full of rain, they empty themselves on the earth; and if a tree falls toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falls, there shall it be. 4He who observes the wind won’t sow; and he who regards the clouds won’t reap. 5As you don’t know what is the way of the wind, nor how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child; even so you don’t know the work of God who does all. 6In the morning sow your seed, and in the evening don’t withhold your hand; for you don’t know which will prosper, whether this or that, or whether they both will be equally good. 7Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to see the sun. 8Yes, if a man lives many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember the days of darkness, for they shall be many. All that comes is vanity. 9Rejoice, young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes; but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment. 10Therefore remove sorrow from your heart, and put away evil from your flesh; for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.

1Werp uw brood uit op het water, want gij zult het vinden na vele dagen. 2Geef een deel aan zeven, ja, ook aan acht; want gij weet niet, wat kwaad op de aarde wezen zal. 3Als de wolken vol geworden zijn, zo storten zij plasregen uit op de aarde; en als de boom naar het zuiden, of als hij naar het noorden valt, in de plaats, waar de boom valt, daar zal hij wezen. 4Wie op den wind acht geeft, die zal niet zaaien, en wie op de wolken ziet, die zal niet maaien. 5Gelijk gij niet weet, welke de weg des winds zij, of hoedanig de beenderen zijn in den buik van een zwangere vrouw, alzo weet gij het werk Gods niet, Die het alles maakt. 6Zaai uw zaad in den morgenstond, en trek uw hand des avonds niet af; want gij weet niet, wat recht wezen zal, of dit of dat, of dat die beide te zamen goed zijn zullen. 7Verder, het licht is zoet, en het is den ogen goed de zon te aanschouwen; 8Maar indien de mens veel jaren heeft, en verblijdt zich in die allen, zo laat hem ook gedenken aan de dagen der duisternis, want die zullen veel zijn; en al wat zal gekomen is, is ijdelheid. 9Verblijd u, o jongeling! in uw jeugd, en laat uw hart zich vermaken in de dagen uwer jongelingschap, en wandel in de wegen uws harten, en in de aanschouwingen uwer ogen; maar weet, dat God, om al deze dingen, u zal doen komen voor het gericht. 10Zo doe dan de toornigheid wijken van uw hart, en doe het kwade weg van uw vlees, want de jeugd, en de jonkheid is ijdelheid.
