1Vả, tôi muốn anh em biết dường nào tôi hết sức chiến tranh cho anh em, cho những người ở Lao-đi-xê, và cho những kẻ không thấy mặt tôi về phần xác, 2hầu cho lòng những kẻ ấy được yên ủi, và lấy sự yêu thương mà liên hiệp, đặng có nhiều sự thông biết đầy dẫy chắc chắn, đến nỗi có thể hiểu sự mầu nhiệm của Ðức Chúa Trời, tức là Ðấng Christ, 3mà trong Ngài đã giấu kín mọi sự quí báu về khôn ngoan thông sáng. 4Tôi nói như vậy, hầu cho chẳng ai lấy lời dỗ dành mà lừa dối anh em. 5Vì dẫu thân tôi xa cách, nhưng tâm thần tôi vẫn ở cùng anh em, thấy trong anh em có thứ tự hẳn hoi và đức tin vững vàng đến Ðấng Christ, thì tôi mừng rỡ lắm. 6Anh em đã nhận Ðức Chúa Jêsus Christ thể nào, thì hãy bước đi trong Ngài thể ấy; 7hãy châm rễ và lập nền trong Ngài, lấy đức tin làm cho bền vững, tùy theo anh em đã được dạy dỗ, và hãy dư dật trong sự cảm tạ. 8Hãy giữ chừng, kẻo có ai lấy triết học và lời hư không, theo lời truyền khẩu của loài người, sơ học của thế gian, không theo Ðấng Christ, mà bắt anh em phục chăng. 9Vì sự đầy dẫy của bổn tánh Ðức Chúa Trời thảy đều ở trong Ðấng ấy như có hình. 10Anh em lại nhờ Ngài mà có được đầy dẫy mọi sự, vì Ngài là đầu của mọi quyền cai trị và mọi thế lực. 11Anh em cũng chịu cắt bì trong Ngài, không phải phép cắt bì bởi tay người ta làm ra, nhưng là phép cắt bì của Ðấng Christ, là lột bỏ tánh xác thịt của chúng ta. 12Anh em đã bởi phép báp-tem được chôn với Ngài, thì cũng được sống lại với Ngài bởi đức tin trong quyền phép Ðức Chúa Trời, là Ðấng đã khiến Ngài từ kẻ chết sống lại. 13Khi anh em đã chết bởi tội lỗi mình và sự xác thịt mình không chịu cắt bì, thì Ðức Chúa Trời đã khiến anh em sống lại với Ðấng Christ, vì đã tha thứ hết mọi tội chúng ta: 14Ngài đã xóa tờ khế lập nghịch cùng chúng ta, các điều khoản trái với chúng ta nữa, cùng phá hủy tờ khế đó mà đóng đinh trên cây thập tự; 15Ngài đã truất bỏ các quyền cai trị cùng các thế lực, dùng thập tự giá chiến thắng chúng nó, và nộp ra tỏ tường giữa thiên hạ. 16Vì vậy, chớ có ai đoán xét anh em về của ăn uống, hoặc ngày lễ, hoặc ngày mặt trăng mới, hoặc ngày Sa-bát, 17ấy đều chỉ là bóng của các việc sẽ tới, còn hình thì ở trong Ðấng Christ. 18Chớ để cho những kẻ kia cướp lấy phần thưởng chạy thi, là kẻ giả đò khiêm nhượng mà muốn thờ lạy các thiên sứ. Họ theo những sự mình xem thấy, và bởi tính xác thịt nổi lòng kiêu ngạo vô ích, 19không liên lạc với đầu, là nhờ đầu đó mà cả thân thể xếp đặt kết hiệp bởi các lắt léo, và được sự sanh trưởng từ Ðức Chúa Trời đến. 20Ví bằng anh em chết với Ðấng Christ về sự sơ học của thế gian, thì làm sao lại để cho những thể lệ nầy ép buột mình, như anh em còn sống trong thế gian: 21Chớ lấy, chớ nếm, chớ rờ? 22Cả sự đó hễ dùng đến thì hư nát, theo qui tắc và đạo lý loài người, 23dầu bề ngoài có vẻ khôn ngoan, là bởi thờ lạy theo ý riêng, cách khiêm nhượng và khắc khổ thân thể mình; nhưng không ích gì để chống cự lòng dục của xác thịt.
1For I desire to have you know how greatly I struggle for you, and for those at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; 2that their hearts may be comforted, they being knit together in love, and gaining all riches of the full assurance of understanding, that they may know the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, 3in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge hidden. 4Now this I say that no one may delude you with persuasiveness of speech. 5For though I am absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, rejoicing and seeing your order, and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ. 6As therefore you received Christ Jesus, the Lord, walk in him, 7rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, even as you were taught, abounding in it in thanksgiving. 8Be careful that you don’t let anyone rob you through his philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the elements of the world, and not after Christ. 9For in him all the fullness of the Godhead dwells bodily, 10and in him you are made full, who is the head of all principality and power; 11in whom you were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ; 12having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13You were dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh. He made you alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14wiping out the handwriting in ordinances which was against us; and he has taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross; 15having stripped the principalities and the powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it. 16Let no one therefore judge you in eating, or in drinking, or with respect to a feast day or a new moon or a Sabbath day, 17which are a shadow of the things to come; but the body is Christ’s. 18Let no one rob you of your prize by a voluntary humility and worshiping of the angels, dwelling in the things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19and not holding firmly to the Head, from whom all the body, being supplied and knit together through the joints and ligaments, grows with God’s growth. 20If you died with Christ from the elements of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to ordinances, 21“Don’t handle, nor taste, nor touch” 22(all of which perish with use), according to the precepts and doctrines of men? 23Which things indeed appear like wisdom in self-imposed worship, and humility, and severity to the body; but aren’t of any value against the indulgence of the flesh.
1Want ik wil, dat gij weet, hoe groten strijd ik voor u heb, en voor degenen, die te Laodicea zijn, en zo velen als er mijn aangezicht in het vlees niet hebben gezien; 2Opdat hun harten vertroost mogen worden, en zij samengevoegd zijn in de liefde, en dat tot allen rijkdom der volle verzekerdheid des verstands, tot kennis der verborgenheid van God en den Vader, en van Christus; 3In Denwelken al de schatten der wijsheid en der kennis verborgen zijn. 4En dit zeg ik, opdat niet iemand u misleide met beweegredenen, die een schijn hebben. 5Want hoewel ik met het vlees van u ben, nochtans ben ik met den geest bij u, mij verblijdende en ziende uw ordening, en de vastigheid van uw geloof in Christus. 6Gelijk gij dan Christus Jezus, den Heere, hebt aangenomen, wandelt alzo in Hem; 7Geworteld en opgebouwd in Hem, en bevestigd in het geloof, gelijkerwijs gij geleerd zijt, overvloedig zijnde in hetzelve, met dankzegging. 8Ziet toe, dat niemand u als een roof vervoere door de filosofie, en ijdele verleiding, naar de overlevering der mensen, naar de eerste beginselen der wereld, en niet naar Christus; 9Want in Hem woont al de volheid der Godheid lichamelijk; 10En gij zijt in Hem volmaakt, Die het Hoofd is van alle overheid en macht; 11In Welken gij ook besneden zijt met een besnijdenis, die zonder handen geschiedt, in de uittrekking van het lichaam der zonden des vleses, door de besnijdenis van Christus; 12Zijnde met Hem begraven in den doop, in welken gij ook met Hem opgewekt zijt door het geloof der werking Gods, Die Hem uit de doden opgewekt heeft. 13En Hij heeft u, als gij dood waart in de misdaden, en in de voorhuid uws vleses, mede levend gemaakt met Hem, al uw misdaden u vergevende; 14Uitgewist hebbende het handschrift, dat tegen ons was, in inzettingen bestaande, hetwelk, zeg ik, enigerwijze ons tegen was, en heeft datzelve uit het midden weggenomen, hetzelve aan het kruis genageld hebbende; 15En de overheden en de machten uitgetogen hebbende, heeft Hij die in het openbaar tentoongesteld, en heeft door hetzelve over hen getriomfeerd. 16Dat u dan niemand oordele in spijs of in drank, of in het stuk des feest dags, of der nieuwe maan, of der sabbatten; 17Welke zijn een schaduw der toekomende dingen, maar het lichaam is van Christus. 18Dat dan niemand u overheerse naar zijn wil in nederigheid en dienst der engelen, intredende in hetgeen hij niet gezien heeft, tevergeefs opgeblazen zijnde door het verstand zijns vleses; 19En het Hoofd niet behoudende, uit hetwelk het gehele lichaam, door de samenvoegselen en samenbindingen voorzien en samengevoegd zijnde, opwast met goddelijken wasdom. 20Indien gij dan met Christus de eerste beginselen der wereld zijt afgestorven, wat wordt gij, gelijk of gij in de wereld leefdet, met inzettingen belast? 21Namelijk raak niet, en smaak niet, en roer niet aan. 22Welke dingen alle verderven door het gebruik, ingevoerd naar de geboden en leringen der mensen; 23Dewelke wel hebben een schijn rede van wijsheid in eigenwilligen gods dienst en nederigheid, en in het lichaam niet te sparen, doch zijn niet in enige waarde, maar tot verzadiging van het vlees.
