1Thế thì, vì chúng ta được nhiều người chứng kiến vây lấy như đám mây rất lớn, chúng ta cũng nên quăng hết gánh nặng và tội lỗi dễ vấn vương ta, lấy lòng nhịn nhục theo đòi cuộc chạy đua đã bày ra cho ta, 2nhìn xem Ðức Chúa Jêsus, là cội rễ và cuối cùng của đức tin, tức là Ðấng vì sự vui mừng đã đặt trước mặt mình, chịu lấy thập tự giá, khinh điều sỉ nhục, và hiện nay ngồi bên hữu ngai Ðức Chúa Trời. 3Vậy, anh em hãy nghĩ đến Ðấng đã chịu sự đối nghịch của kẻ tội lỗi dường ấy, hầu cho khỏi bị mỏi mệt sờn lòng. 4Anh em chống trả với tội ác còn chưa đến mỗi đổ huyết; 5lại đã quên lời khuyên anh em như khuyên con, rằng: Hỡi con, chớ dể ngươi sự sửa phạt của Chúa, Và khi Chúa trách, chớ ngã lòng; 6Vì Chúa sửa phạt kẻ Ngài yêu, Hễ ai mà Ngài nhận làm con, thì cho roi cho vọt. 7Ví bằng anh em chịu sửa phạt, ấy là Ðức Chúa Trời đãi anh em như con, vì có người nào là con mà cha không sửa phạt? 8nhưng nếu anh em được khỏi sự sửa phạt mà ai nấy cũng phải chịu, thì anh em là con ngoại tình, chớ không phải con thật. 9Cha về phần xác sửa phạt, mà chúng ta còn kính sợ thay, huống chi Cha về phần hồn, chúng ta há chẳng càng nên vâng phục lắm để được sự sống sao? 10Vả, cha về phần xác theo ý mình mà sửa phạt chúng ta tạm thời, nhưng Ðức Chúa Trời vì ích cho chúng ta mà sửa phạt, để khiến chúng ta được dự phần trong sự thánh khiết Ngài. 11Thật các sự sửa phạt lúc đầu coi như một cớ buồn bã, chớ không phải sự vui mừng; nhưng về sau sanh ra bông trái công bình và bình an cho những kẻ đã chịu luyện tập như vậy. 12Vậy, hãy dở bàn tay yếu đuối của anh em lên, luôn cả đầu gối lỏng lẻo nữa. 13Khá làm đường thẳng cho chơn anh em theo, hầu cho kẻ nào què khỏi lạc đường mà lại được chữa lành nữa. 14Hãy cầu sự bình an với mọi người, cùng tìm theo sự nên thánh, vì nếu không nên thánh thì chẳng ai được thấy Ðức Chúa Trời. 15Khá coi chừng kẻo có kẻ trật phần ân điển của Ðức Chúa Trời, kẻo rễ đắng châm ra, có thể ngăn trở và làm ô uế phần nhiều trong anh em chăng. 16Hãy coi chừng, trong anh em chớ có ai gian dâm, cũng đừng có ai khinh lờn như Ê-sau, chỉ vì một món ăn mà bán quyền con trưởng. 17Thật vậy, anh em biết rằng đến sau, người muốn cha mình chúc phước cho, thì lại bị bỏ; vì dẫu người khóc lóc cầu xin, cũng chẳng đổi được ý cha mình đã định rồi. 18Anh em chẳng tới gần một hòn núi mà người ta có thể rờ đến được, cũng chẳng đến gần lửa hừng, hoặc tối tăm, hoặc âm ế, hoặc gió dữ, 19hoặc tiếng loa thổi vang, hoặc tiếng nói kinh khiếp đến nỗi ai nghe đều nài xin đừng nói với mình nữa; 20vì họ không chịu nổi lời phán nầy: Dẫu loài thú vật tới gần núi nầy cũng sẽ bị ném đá. 21Lại cảnh trạng đó rất kinh khiếp, đến nỗi Môi-se nói rằng: Ta thật sợ sệt và run rẩy cả người. 22Nhưng anh em đã tới gần núi Si-ôn, gần thành của Ðức Chúa Trời hằng sống, tức là Giê-ru-sa-lem trên trời, gần muôn vàn thiên sứ nhóm lại, 23gần Hội thánh của những con trưởng được ghi tên trong các từng trời, gần Ðức Chúa Trời, là quan án của mọi người, gần các linh hồn người nghĩa được vẹn lành, 24gần Ðức Chúa Jêsus, là Ðấng trung bảo của giao ước mới, và gần huyết rưới ra, huyết đó nói tốt hơn huyết của A-bên vậy. 25Anh em hãy giữ, chớ từ chối Ðấng phán cùng mình; vì nếu những kẻ kia cự Ðấng truyền lời báo cáo ở dưới đất, còn không tránh khỏi thay, huống chi chúng ta, nếu cự Ðấng truyền lời báo cáo từ trên trời, thì càng không tránh khỏi được. 26Tiếng Ðấng ấy bây giờ rúng động cả đất, hiện nay phán hứa rằng: Còn một lần nữa, ta sẽ chẳng những rúng động đất mà thôi, những cũng rúng động trời nữa. 27Và, trong những chữ: Còn một lần nữa, tỏ ra rằng các vật hay bị rúng động, vì là những vật đã chịu dựng nên, sẽ bị cất đi, hầu cho những vật không hề rúng động được còn lại. 28Như vậy, vì chúng ta có phần trong một nước không hay rúng động, nên hãy cảm ơn, hầu cho lấy lòng kính sợ hầu việc Ðức Chúa Trời một cách đẹp lòng Ngài; 29vì Ðức Chúa Trời chúng ta là đám lửa hay thiêu đốt.
1Therefore let us also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3For consider him who has endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, that you don’t grow weary, fainting in your souls. 4You have not yet resisted to blood, striving against sin; 5and you have forgotten the exhortation which reasons with you as with children, “My son, don’t take lightly the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by him; 6For whom the Lord loves, he chastens, and scourges every son whom he receives.” 7It is for discipline that you endure. God deals with you as with children, for what son is there whom his father doesn’t discipline? 8But if you are without discipline, of which all have been made partakers, then are you illegitimate, and not children. 9Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live? 10For they indeed, for a few days, punished us as seemed good to them; but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness. 11All chastening seems for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been exercised thereby. 12Therefore lift up the hands that hang down and the feeble knees, 13and make straight paths for your feet, so that which is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed. 14Follow after peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no man will see the Lord, 15looking carefully lest there be any man who falls short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and many be defiled by it; 16lest there be any sexually immoral person, or profane person, like Esau, who sold his birthright for one meal. 17For you know that even when he afterward desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for a change of mind though he sought it diligently with tears. 18For you have not come to a mountain that might be touched, and that burned with fire, and to blackness, darkness, storm, 19the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which those who heard it begged that not one more word should be spoken to them, 20for they could not stand that which was commanded, “If even an animal touches the mountain, it shall be stoned”; 21and so fearful was the appearance that Moses said, “I am terrified and trembling.” 22But you have come to Mount Zion, and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable multitudes of angels, 23to the general assembly and assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, 24to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better than that of Abel. 25See that you don’t refuse him who speaks. For if they didn’t escape when they refused him who warned on the earth, how much more will we not escape who turn away from him who warns from heaven, 26whose voice shook the earth then, but now he has promised, saying, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heavens.” 27This phrase, “Yet once more”, signifies the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that have been made, that those things which are not shaken may remain. 28Therefore, receiving a Kingdom that can’t be shaken, let us have grace, through which we serve God acceptably, with reverence and awe, 29for our God is a consuming fire.
1Daarom dan ook, alzo wij zo groot een wolk der getuigen rondom ons hebben liggende, laat ons afleggen allen last, en de zonde, die ons lichtelijk omringt, en laat ons met lijdzaamheid lopen de loopbaan, die ons voorgesteld is; 2Ziende op den oversten Leidsman en Voleinder des geloofs, Jezus, Dewelke, voor de vreugde, die Hem voorgesteld was, het kruis heeft verdragen, en schande veracht, en is gezeten aan de rechter hand des troons van God. 3Want aanmerkt Dezen, Die zodanig een tegenspreken van de zondaren tegen Zich heeft verdragen, opdat gij niet verflauwt en bezwijkt in uw zielen. 4Gij hebt nog tot den bloede toe niet tegengestaan, strijdende tegen de zonde; 5En gij hebt vergeten de vermaning, die tot u als tot zonen spreekt: Mijn zoon, acht niet klein de kastijding des Heeren, en bezwijkt niet, als gij van Hem bestraft wordt; 6Want dien de Heere liefheeft, kastijdt Hij, en Hij geselt een iegelijken zoon, die Hij aanneemt. 7Indien gij de kastijding verdraagt, zo gedraagt Zich God jegens u als zonen; (want wat zoon is er, dien de vader niet kastijdt?) 8Maar indien gij zonder kastijding zijt, welke allen deelachtig zijn geworden, zo zijt gij dan bastaarden, en niet zonen. 9Voorts, wij hebben de vaders onzes vleses wel tot kastijders gehad, en wij ontzagen hen; zullen wij dan niet veel meer den Vader der geesten onderworpen zijn, en leven? 10Want genen hebben ons wel voor een korten tijd, naar dat het hun goed dacht, gekastijd; maar Deze kastijdt ons tot ons nut, opdat wij Zijner heiligheid zouden deelachtig worden. 11En alle kastijding als die tegenwoordig is, schijnt geen zaak van vreugde, maar van droefheid te zijn; doch daarna geeft zij van zich een vreedzame vrucht der gerechtigheid dengenen, die door dezelve geoefend zijn. 12Daarom richt weder op de trage handen, en de slappe knieen; 13En maakt rechte paden voor uw voeten, opdat hetgeen kreupel is, niet verdraaid worde, maar dat het veelmeer genezen worde. 14Jaagt den vrede na met allen, en de heiligmaking, zonder welke niemand den Heere zien zal; 15Toeziende, dat niet iemand verachtere van de genade Gods; dat niet enige wortel der bitterheid, opwaarts spruitende, beroerte make en door dezelve velen ontreinigd worden. 16Dat niet iemand zij een hoereerder, of een onheilige, gelijk Ezau, die om een spijze het recht van zijn eerstgeboorte weggaf. 17Want gij weet, dat hij ook daarna, de zegening willende beerven, verworpen werd; want hij vond geen plaats des berouws, hoewel hij dezelve met tranen zocht. 18Want gij zijt niet gekomen tot den tastelijken berg, en het brandende vuur, en donkerheid, en duisternis, en onweder, 19En tot het geklank der bazuin, en de stem der woorden; welke die ze hoorden, baden, dat het woord tot hen niet meer zou gedaan worden. 20(Want zij konden niet dragen, hetgeen er geboden werd: Indien ook een gedierte den berg aanraakt, het zal gestenigd of met een pijl doorschoten worden. 21En Mozes, zo vreselijk was het gezicht, zeide: Ik ben gans bevreesd en bevende). 22Maar gij zijt gekomen tot den berg Sion, en de stad des levenden Gods, tot het hemelse Jeruzalem, en de vele duizenden der engelen; 23Tot de algemene vergadering en de Gemeente der eerstgeborenen, die in de hemelen opgeschreven zijn, en tot God, den Rechter over allen, en de geesten der volmaakte rechtvaardigen; 24En tot den Middelaar des nieuwen testaments, Jezus, en het bloed der besprenging, dat betere dingen spreekt dan Abel. 25Ziet toe, dat gij Dien, Die spreekt, niet verwerpt; want indien dezen niet zijn ontvloden, die dengene verwierpen, welke op aarde Goddelijke antwoorden gaf, veelmeer zullen wij niet ontvlieden, zo wij ons van Dien afkeren, Die van de hemelen is; 26Wiens stem toen de aarde bewoog; maar nu heeft Hij verkondigd, zeggende: Nog eenmaal zal Ik bewegen niet alleen de aarde, maar ook den hemel. 27En dit woord: Nog eenmaal, wijst aan de verandering der bewegelijke dingen, als welke gemaakt waren, opdat blijven zouden de dingen, die niet bewegelijk zijn. 28Daarom, alzo wij een onbewegelijk Koninkrijk ontvangen, laat ons de genade vast houden, door dewelke wij welbehagelijk Gode mogen dienen, met eerbied en godvruchtigheid. 29Want onze God is een verterend vuur.
