1Trong năm đời vua Ða-ri-út, người Mê-đi, ta đã dấy khiến để giúp đỡ người và làm cho mạnh. 2Bây giờ ta sẽ cho ngươi biết sự chơn thật. Nầy, còn có ba vua trong nước Phe-rơ-sơ sẽ dấy lên, lại vua thứ tư có nhiều của cải hơn hết thảy; và khi của cải làm cho vua đó nên mạnh, thì người xui giục mọi người nghịch cùng nước Gờ-réc. 3Song sẽ có một vua mạnh dấy lên, lấy quyền lớn cai trị và làm theo ý mình. 4Khi vua ấy đã dấy lên, thì nước người bị xé và chia ra theo bốn gió của trời, nhưng không truyền lại cho con cháu, cũng không như quyền đã dùng mà cai trị trước nữa; vì nước người sẽ bị nhổ và phó cho người khác ngoài những người đó. 5Vua phương nam sẽ được mạnh; nhưng một trong các tướng của vua sẽ được mạnh hơn vua, và có quyền cai trị; quyền người sẽ lớn lắm. 6Ðến cuối cùng mấy năm, các vua đó sẽ đồng minh với nhau; công chúa vua phương nam đến cùng vua phương bắc để kết hòa hảo. Nhưng sức của cánh tay công chúa chắc không được lâu; quyền của vua phương bắc và cánh tay người cũng chẳng còn; nhưng công chúa và những kẻ đã dẫn nó đến, và người sanh ra nó, cùng kẻ đã giúp đỡ nó trong lúc đó đều sẽ bị nộp. 7Một chồi ra từ rễ công chúa, dấy lên để nối ngôi nó, mà đến cùng cơ binh, vào trong đồn lũy vua phương bắc, đánh và thắng được. 8Người bắt cả các thần họ làm phu tù đem sang nước Ê-díp-tô, cả các tượng đúc và các khí mạnh bằng vàng bằng bạc nữa; đoạn trong vài năm, người sẽ không đánh vua phương bắc. 9Vua nầy sẽ tiến vào nước vua phương nam, nhưng lại trở về xứ mình. 10Hai con trai vua phương bắc đi chiến trận, nhóm một đoàn cơ binh lớn, sẽ đến, sẽ tràn ra và đi qua; chúng nó sẽ trở về và chiến trận cho đến đồn lũy vua phương nam. 11Bấy giờ vua phương nam tức giận, ra ngoài để đánh nhau cùng vua phương bắc, sắp sẵn sàng một cơ binh đông, và cơ binh của vua phương bắc phải phó vào tay người. 12Cơ binh đó tan rồi, thì lòng vua phương nam sẽ lên kiêu ngạo. Người sẽ làm cho ngã xuống bấy nhiêu vạn người, nhưng không được thắng. 13Vua phương bắc sẽ trở về, thâu nhóm cơ binh đông hơn nữa; và đến cuối cùng các kỳ tức là các năm, người sẽ đến với một cơ binh lớn và đồ rất nhiều. 14Trong khi ấy nhiều người nổi lên nghịch cùng vua phương nam, và các con cái của kẻ hung dữ trong dân ngươi sẽ dấy lên, hầu cho ứng nghiệm sự hiện thấy, nhưng họ sẽ ngã xuống. 15Vậy vua phương bắc sẽ đến; dựng đồn lũy, lấy một thành vững bền; và quân phương nam, dầu cho đến quân tinh nhuệ nữa, cũng không thể đứng vững được. Vì chẳng có sức nào chống lại được. 16Nhưng kẻ đến đánh nó sẽ làm tùy ý mình, và chẳng có ai đương lại với người. Người sẽ đứng trong đất vinh hiển, cầm sự hủy phá trong tay. 17Người quyết lòng lấy sức của cả nước mình mà đến; đoạn, người sự giao hòa với nó, và sẽ làm ứng nghiệm; nó sẽ đem con gái của đờn bà cho nó, để làm bại hoại; nhưng nó sẽ không đứng được và cũng không thuộc về người. 18Ðoạn, người quay sang các cù lao và chiếm lấy nhiều nơi. Nhưng một vua sẽ làm cho thôi sự sỉ nhục người làm ra, và còn làm cho sự đó lại đổ trên người. 19Ðoạn người sẽ trở mặt về các đồn lũy đất mình; nhưng chắc phải vấp và ngã, và chẳng được tìm thấy nữa. 20Bấy giờ có một vua khác sẽ nối ngôi người, sai kẻ bức hiếp đi qua nơi vinh hiển của nước; nhưng trong mấy ngày người sẽ phải bại hoại, chẳng vì cơn giận dữ hay trận chiến tranh nào cả. 21Lại có kẻ đáng khinh dể lên thay vì vua đó, mà người ta không tôn người làm vua; nhưng người sẽ đến lúc yên ổn, dùng lời siểm nịnh mà mưu chiếu lấy nước. 22Những cơ binh đầy tràn, sẽ bị thua và vỡ tan trước người, cả đến vua của sự giao ước cũng vậy. 23Dầu có lập hòa ước với vua kia, người cũng làm việc cách dối trá; đem quân đến và được mạnh bởi một dân ít người; 24người sẽ nhơn lúc yên ổn chiếm lấy các khu đất tốt nhứt trong tỉnh, và sẽ làm điều mà tổ phụ và liệt tổ người chưa hề làm; lấy những đồ đã cướp đã giựt được và của cải mà chia cho những người theo mình; lập mưu đánh các đồn lũy, nhưng chỉ trong một thì mà thôi. 25Ðoạn, vua đó lại phấn chấn sức mình và lòng mình, dùng một cơ binh lớn đánh vua phương nam. Vua phương nam sẽ đi đánh giặc bằng một cơ binh lớn và mạnh lắm; nhưng người không thể chống cự lại được, bởi vì sẽ có người ta lập mưu nghịch cùng người. 26Những kẻ ăn bánh trong bàn vua sẽ làm cho vua bại hoại; cơ binh người sẽ tràn ra và nhiều người bị giết và ngã xuống. 27Có hai vua ấy, trong lòng chỉ chực làm hại; ngồi cùng bàn tiệc mà nói dối; song sự đó chẳng thành, vì sẽ còn có sự cuối cùng nơi kỳ đã định. 28Vua sẽ trở về đất mình với nhiều của cải lắm; lòng người đã rắp đối địch cùng giao ước thánh, và người sẽ làm theo ý mình, và trở về đất mình. 29Ðến kỳ đã định, người sẽ trở lại và vào phương nam; nhưng lần sau không giống như lần trước. 30Vì những tàu ở Kít-tim sẽ đến nghịch cùng người; cho nên người sẽ lo buồn và trở về. Người sẽ tức giận nghịch cùng giao ước thánh, và làm theo ý mình. Người sẽ trở về, và coi trọng những kẻ bỏ giao ước thánh. 31Những quân lính của người mộ sẽ dấy lên, làm ô uế nơi thánh cùng đồn lũy, cất của lễ thiêu hằng dâng, và lập sự gớm ghiếc làm ra sự hoang vu. 32Người dùng lời nịnh hót mà dỗ dành những kẻ làm sự dữ nghịch cùng giao ước; nhưng dân sự biết Ðức Chúa Trời mình sẽ mạnh mẽ mà làm. 33Những kẻ khôn sáng trong dân sẽ dạy dỗ nhiều người; nhưng họ sẽ phải ngã bởi gươm, bởi ngọn lửa, bởi sự phu tù và sự cướp bóc lâu ngày. 34Trong khi họ sa ngã, họ cũng sẽ được cứu một ít; song nhiều kẻ sẽ lấy lời nịnh hót mà theo họ. 35Trong những kẻ khôn sáng sẽ có mấy người sa ngã, hầu cho luyện lọc chúng nó, làm cho tinh sạch và trắng, cho đến kỳ sau rốt, vì việc đó còn có kỳ nhứt định. 36Vua sẽ làm theo ý muốn mình; kiêu ngạo và lên mình cao hơn hết các thần; nói những lời lạ lùng nghịch cùng Ðức Chúa Trời của các thần. Người sẽ được may mắn cho đến khi cơn thạnh nộ Chúa được trọn, bởi vì điều gì đã có chỉ định thì phải ứng nghiệm. 37Người sẽ không đoái xem các thần của tổ phụ mình, cùng kẻ mà đờn bà vẫn mến. Người sẽ chẳng coi thần nào ra gì; bởi vì người tôn mình lên cao hơn hết cả. 38Nhưng người sẽ ở chỗ mình tôn kính thần của các đồn lũy; người sẽ lấy vàng, bạc, đá quí, và những vật tốt đẹp mà tôn kính thần tổ phụ mình không biết. 39Người sẽ cậy thần lạ giúp cho mà lấy các đồn lũy vững bền, và người sẽ ban thêm sự vinh hiển cho kẻ nào nhận mình. Người cho họ cai trị nhiều nhiều, và chịu tiền bạc mà chia đất. 40Ðến kỳ sau rốt, vua phương nam sẽ tranh chiến cùng người. Vua phương bắc đem xe binh, lính kỵ và nhiều tàu, xông đến vua đó như cơn gió lốc. Người sẽ lấn vào các nước, tràn tới và đi qua. 41Người sẽ vào đến đất vinh hiển, và nhiều nước sẽ bị đổ. Song những người Ê-đôm, người Mô-áp và những kẻ làm đầu trong dân Am-môn sẽ thoát khỏi tay người. 42Người sẽ giang tay ra trên các nước, và đất Ê-díp-tô sẽ không thoát khỏi. 43Người sẽ chiếm lấy các của báu, vàng và bạc, cùng hết thảy đồ quí báu của Ê-díp-tô. Dân Li-by và dân Ê-thi-ô-bi sẽ theo sau người. 44Song những tin tức từ phương đông và phương bắc sẽ đến làm cho người bối rối; người sẽ giận lắm mà đi ra để tàn phá và hủy diệt nhiều người. 45Người sẽ đặt các trai của cung mình ở khoảng giữa biển cùng núi vinh hiển và thánh. Song người sẽ đến sự cuối cùng mình, và chẳng có ai đến giúp đỡ người cả.
1“As for me, in the first year of Darius the Mede, I stood up to confirm and strengthen him. 2Now will I show you the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and when he has grown strong through his riches, he shall stir up all against the realm of Greece. 3A mighty king shall stand up, who shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will. 4When he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of the sky, but not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion with which he ruled; for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others besides these. 5The king of the south shall be strong, and one of his princes; and he shall be strong above him, and have dominion; his dominion shall be a great dominion. 6At the end of years they shall join themselves together; and the daughter of the king of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement: but she shall not retain the strength of her arm; neither shall he stand, nor his arm; but she shall be given up, and those who brought her, and he who became the father of her, and he who strengthened her in those times. 7But out of a shoot from her roots shall one stand up in his place, who shall come to the army, and shall enter into the fortress of the king of the north, and shall deal against them, and shall prevail. 8Also their gods, with their molten images, and with their goodly vessels of silver and of gold, shall he carry captive into Egypt; and he shall refrain some years from the king of the north. 9He shall come into the realm of the king of the south, but he shall return into his own land. 10His sons shall war, and shall assemble a multitude of great forces, which shall come on, and overflow, and pass through; and they shall return and war, even to his fortress. 11The king of the south shall be moved with anger, and shall come out and fight with him, even with the king of the north; and he shall send out a great multitude, and the multitude shall be given into his hand. 12The multitude shall be lifted up, and his heart shall be exalted; and he shall cast down tens of thousands, but he shall not prevail. 13The king of the north shall return, and shall send out a multitude greater than the former; and he shall come on at the end of the times, even of years, with a great army and with much substance. 14In those times there shall many stand up against the king of the south: also the children of the violent among your people shall lift themselves up to establish the vision; but they shall fall. 15So the king of the north shall come, and cast up a mound, and take a well-fortified city: and the forces of the south shall not stand, neither his chosen people, neither shall there be any strength to stand. 16But he who comes against him shall do according to his own will, and no one shall stand before him; and he shall stand in the glorious land, and in his hand shall be destruction. 17He shall set his face to come with the strength of his whole kingdom, and with him equitable conditions; and he shall perform them: and he shall give him the daughter of women, to corrupt her; but she shall not stand, neither be for him. 18After this shall he turn his face to the islands, and shall take many: but a prince shall cause the reproach offered by him to cease; yes, moreover, he shall cause his reproach to turn on him. 19Then he shall turn his face toward the fortresses of his own land; but he shall stumble and fall, and shall not be found. 20Then shall stand up in his place one who shall cause a tax collector to pass through the kingdom to maintain its glory; but within few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle. 21In his place shall stand up a contemptible person, to whom they had not given the honor of the kingdom: but he shall come in time of security, and shall obtain the kingdom by flatteries. 22The overwhelming forces shall be overwhelmed from before him, and shall be broken; yes, also the prince of the covenant. 23After the treaty made with him he shall work deceitfully; for he shall come up, and shall become strong, with a small people. 24In time of security shall he come even on the fattest places of the province; and he shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers’ fathers; he shall scatter among them prey, and plunder, and substance: yes, he shall devise his devices against the strongholds, even for a time. 25He shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south shall war in battle with an exceeding great and mighty army; but he shall not stand; for they shall devise devices against him. 26Yes, they who eat of his dainties shall destroy him, and his army shall overflow; and many shall fall down slain. 27As for both these kings, their hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall speak lies at one table: but it shall not prosper; for yet the end shall be at the time appointed. 28Then he will return into his land with great substance; and his heart will be against the holy covenant; and he will take action, and return to his own land. 29At the time appointed he shall return, and come into the south; but it shall not be in the latter time as it was in the former. 30For ships of Kittim shall come against him; therefore he shall be grieved, and shall return, and have indignation against the holy covenant, and shall take action: he shall even return, and have regard to those who forsake the holy covenant. 31Forces shall stand on his part, and they shall profane the sanctuary, even the fortress, and shall take away the continual burnt offering, and they shall set up the abomination that makes desolate. 32Such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he pervert by flatteries; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and take action. 33Those who are wise among the people shall instruct many; yet they shall fall by the sword and by flame, by captivity and by plunder, many days. 34Now when they shall fall, they shall be helped with a little help; but many shall join themselves to them with flatteries. 35Some of those who are wise shall fall, to refine them, and to purify, and to make them white, even to the time of the end; because it is yet for the time appointed. 36The king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvelous things against the God of gods; and he shall prosper until the indignation be accomplished; for that which is determined shall be done. 37Neither shall he regard the gods of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god; for he shall magnify himself above all. 38But in his place shall he honor the god of fortresses; and a god whom his fathers didn’t know shall he honor with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things. 39He shall deal with the strongest fortresses by the help of a foreign god: whoever acknowledges him he will increase with glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for a price. 40At the time of the end shall the king of the south contend with him; and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass through. 41He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall be delivered out of his hand: Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon. 42He shall stretch out his hand also on the countries; and the land of Egypt shall not escape. 43But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps. 44But news out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him; and he shall go out with great fury to destroy and utterly to sweep away many. 45He shall plant the tents of his palace between the sea and the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and no one shall help him.

zijn heerschappij zal een grote heerschappij zijn. 6Op het einde nu van sommige jaren, zullen zij zich met elkander bevrienden, en de dochter des konings van het Zuiden zal komen tot den koning van het Noorden, om billijke voorwaarden te maken; doch zij zal de macht des arms niet behouden, daarom zal hij, noch zijn arm, niet bestaan; maar zij zal overgegeven worden, en die haar gebracht hebben, en die haar gegenereerd heeft, en die haar gesterkt heeft in die tijden. 7Doch uit de spruit van haar wortelen zal er een opstaan in zijn staat, die zal met heirkracht komen, en hij zal komen tegen die sterke plaatsen des konings van het Noorden, en hij zal tegen dezelve doen, en hij zal ze bemachtigen. 8Ook zal hij hun goden, met hun vorsten, met hun gewenste vaten van zilver en goud, in de gevangenis naar Egypte brengen; en hij zal enige jaren staande blijven boven den koning van het Noorden. 9Alzo zal de koning van het Zuiden in het koninkrijk komen, en hij zal wederom in zijn land trekken. 10Doch zijn zonen zullen zich in strijd mengen, en zij zullen een menigte van grote heiren verzamelen; en een van hen zal snellijk komen, en als een vloed overstromen en doortrekken; en hij zal wederom komen, en zich in den strijd mengen, tot aan zijn sterke plaats toe. 11En de koning van het Zuiden zal verbitterd worden, en hij zal uittrekken, en strijden tegen hem, tegen den koning van het Noorden, die ook een grote menigte oprichten zal, doch die menigte zal in zijn hand gegeven worden. 12Als die menigte zal weggenomen zijn, zal zijn hart zich verheffen, en hij zal er enige tien duizenden nedervellen; evenwel zal hij niet gesterkt worden. 13Want de koning van het Noorden zal wederkeren, en hij zal een groter menigte dan de eerste was, oprichten; en aan het einde van de tijden der jaren, zal hij snellijk komen met een grote heirkracht, en met groot goed. 14Ook zullen er in die tijden velen opstaan tegen den koning van het Zuiden; en de scheurmakers uws volks zullen verheven worden, om het gezicht te bevestigen, doch zij zullen vallen. 15En de koning van het Noorden zal komen, en een wal opwerpen, en vaste steden innemen; en de armen van het Zuiden zullen niet bestaan, noch zijn uitgelezen volk, ja, er zal geen kracht zijn om te bestaan. 16Maar hij, die tegen hem komt, zal doen naar zijn welgevallen, en niemand zal voor zijn aangezicht bestaan; hij zal ook staan in het land des sieraads, en de verderving zal in zijn hand wezen. 17En hij zal zijn aangezicht stellen, om met de kracht zijns gansen rijks te komen, en hij zal billijke voorwaarden medebrengen, en hij zal het doen; want hij zal hem een dochter der vrouwen geven, om haar te verderven, maar zij zal niet vast staan, en zij zal voor hem niet zijn. 18Daarna zal hij zijn aangezicht tot de eilanden keren, en hij zal er vele innemen; doch een overste zal zijn smaad tegen hem doen ophouden, behalve dat hij zijn smaad op hem zal doen wederkeren. 19En hij zal zijn aangezicht keren naar de sterkten zijns lands, en hij zal aanstoten, en vallen, en niet gevonden worden. 20En in zijn staat zal er een opstaan, doende een geldeiser doortrekken, in koninklijke heerlijkheid; maar hij zal in enige dagen gebroken worden, nochtans niet door toornigheden, noch door oorlog. 21Daarna zal er een verachte in zijn staat staan, denwelken men de koninklijke waardigheid niet zal geven; doch hij zal in stilheid komen, en het koninkrijk door vleierijen bemachtigen. 22En de armen der overstroming zullen overstroomd worden van voor zijn aangezicht, en zij zullen verbroken worden, en ook de vorst des verbonds. 23En na de vereniging met hem zal hij bedrog plegen, en hij zal optrekken, en hij zal met weinig volks gesterkt worden. 24Met stilheid zal hij ook in de vette plaatsen des landschaps komen, en hij zal doen, dat zijn vaders, of de vaders zijner vaderen, niet gedaan hebben; roof, en buit, en goederen, zal hij onder hen uitstrooien, en hij zal tegen de vastigheden zijn gedachten denken, doch tot een zekeren tijd toe. 25En hij zal zijn kracht en zijn hart verwekken tegen den koning van het Zuiden, met een grote heirkracht; en de koning van het Zuiden zal zich in den strijd mengen met een grote en zeer machtige heirkracht; doch hij zal niet bestaan, want zij zullen gedachten tegen hem denken. 26En die de stukken zijner spijze zullen eten, zullen hem breken, en de heirkracht deszelven zal overstromen, en vele verslagenen zullen vallen. 27En het hart van beide deze koningen zal wezen om kwaad te doen, en aan een tafel zullen zij leugen spreken; en het zal niet gelukken, want het zal nog een einde hebben ter bestemder tijd. 28En hij zal in zijn land wederkeren met groot goed, en zijn hart zal zijn tegen het heilig verbond; en hij zal het doen, en wederkeren in zijn land. 29Ter bestemder tijd zal hij wederkeren, en tegen het Zuiden komen, doch het zal niet zijn gelijk de eerste, noch gelijk de laatste reize. 30Want er zullen schepen van Chittim tegen hem komen, daarom zal hij met smart bevangen worden, en hij zal wederkeren, en gram worden tegen het heilig verbond, en hij zal het doen; want wederkerende zal hij acht geven op de verlaters des heiligen verbonds. 31En er zullen armen uit hem ontstaan, en zij zullen het heiligdom ontheiligen, en de sterkte, en zij zullen het gedurige offer wegnemen, en een verwoestenden gruwel stellen. 32En die goddelooslijk handelen tegen het verbond, zal hij doen huichelen door vleierijen; maar het volk, die hun God kennen, zullen zij grijpen, en zullen het doen. 33En de leraars des volks zullen er velen onderwijzen, en zij zullen vallen door het zwaard en door vlam, door gevangenis en door beroving, vele dagen. 34Als zij nu zullen vallen, zullen zij met een kleine hulp geholpen worden; doch velen zullen zich door vleierijen tot hen vervoegen. 35En van de leraars zullen er sommigen vallen, om hen te louteren en te reinigen, en wit te maken, tot den tijd van het einde toe; want het zal nog zijn voor een bestemden tijd. 36En die koning zal doen naar zijn welgevallen, en hij zal zichzelven verheffen, en groot maken boven allen God, en hij zal tegen den God der goden wonderlijke dingen spreken; en hij zal voorspoedig zijn, totdat de gramschap voleind zij, want het is vastelijk besloten, het zal geschieden. 37En op de goden zijner vaderen zal hij geen acht geven, noch op de begeerte der vrouwen; hij zal ook op geen God acht geven, maar hij zal zich boven alles groot maken. 38En hij zal den god Mauzzim in zijn standplaats eren; namelijk den god, welken zijn vaders niet gekend hebben, zal hij eren met goud, en met zilver, en met kostelijk gesteente, en met gewenste dingen. 39En hij zal de vastigheden der sterkten maken met den vreemden god; dengenen, die hij kennen zal, zal hij de eer vermenigvuldigen, en hij zal ze doen heersen over velen, en hij zal het land uitdelen om prijs. 40En op den tijd van het einde, zal de koning van het Zuiden tegen hem met hoornen stoten; en de koning van het Noorden zal tegen hem aanstormen, met wagenen, en met ruiteren, en met vele schepen; en hij zal in de landen komen, en hij zal ze overstromen en doortrekken. 41En hij zal komen in het land des sieraads, en vele landen zullen ter nedergeworpen worden; en die van Libye, en de Moren zullen in zijn gangen wezen. 44Maar de geruchten van het Oosten en van het Noorden zullen hem verschrikken; daarom zal hij uittrekken met grote grimmigheid om velen te verdelgen en te verbannen. 45En hij zal de tenten van zijn paleis planten tussen de zeeen aan den berg des heiligen sieraads; en hij zal tot zijn einde komen, en zal geen helper hebben.
