1Vậy, ai nấy hãy coi chúng tôi như đầy tớ của Ðấng Christ, và kẻ quản trị những sự mầu nhiệm của Ðức Chúa Trời. 2Vả lại, cái điều người ta trông mong nơi người quản trị là phải trung thành. 3Về phần tôi, hoặc bị anh em xử đoán, hoặc bị tòa án nào của loài người xử đoán, tôi cũng chẳng lấy làm quan hệ gì. Chính tôi chẳng tự xử đoán mình nữa; 4vì tôi chẳng thấy mình có điều gì đáng tội, nhưng tôi cũng không nhờ sự đó mà được xưng là công bình: Ðấng xử đoán tôi, ấy là Chúa. 5Vậy, chớ xét đoán sớm quá, hãy đợi Chúa đến; chính Chúa sẽ tỏ những sự giấu trong nơi tối ra nơi sáng, và bày ra những sự toan định trong lòng người; bấy giờ, ai nấy sẽ bởi Ðức Chúa Trời mà lãnh sự khen ngợi mình đáng lãnh. 6Hỡi anh em, ấy là vì cớ anh em, tôi đã dùng những lẽ thật, nầy chỉ về chính mình tôi và A-bô-lô, hầu cho anh em học đòi hai chúng tôi, chớ vượt qua lời đã chép, và chớ sanh lòng kiêu ngạo, theo phe người nầy nghịch cùng kẻ khác. 7Bởi vì, ai phân biệt ngươi với người khác? Ngươi há có điều chi mà chẳng đã nhận lãnh sao? Nếu ngươi đã nhận lãnh, thì sao còn khoe mình như chẳng từng nhận lãnh? 8Anh em được no đủ, được giàu có rồi, chẳng nhờ chúng tôi, anh em đã khởi sự cai trị; thật mong cho anh em được cai trị, hầu cho chúng tôi cũng cai trị với anh em! 9Vì chưng Ðức Chúa Trời dường đã phơi chúng tôi là các sứ đồ ra, giống như tù phải tội chết, làm trò cho thế gian, thiên sứ, loài người cùng xem vậy. 10Chúng tôi là kẻ ngu dại vì cớ Ðấng Christ, nhưng anh em được khôn ngoan trong Ðấng Christ; chúng tôi yếu đuối, anh em mạnh mẽ; anh em quí trọng, chúng tôi khinh hèn. 11Cho đến bây giờ, chúng tôi vẫn chịu đói khát, trần mình, bị người ta vả trên mặt, lưu lạc rày đây mai đó. 12Chúng tôi dùng chính tay mình làm việc khó nhọc; khi bị rủa sả, chúng tôi chúc phước; khi bị bắt bớ, chúng tôi nhịn nhục; 13khi bị vu oan, chúng tôi khuyên dỗ; chúng tôi giống như rác rến của thế gian, cặn bả của loài người, cho đến ngày nay. 14Tôi viết những điều nầy, chẳng phải để làm cho anh em hổ ngươi đâu; nhưng để khuyên bảo anh em, cũng như con cái yêu dấu của tôi vậy. 15Bởi chưng, dẫu anh em có một vạn thầy giáo trong Ðấng Christ, nhưng chẳng có nhiều cha; vì tôi đã dùng Tin Lành mà sanh anh em ra trong Ðức Chúa Jêsus Christ. 16Vậy, tôi lấy điều đó khuyên anh em: hãy bắt chước tôi. 17Vì cớ đó, tôi đã sai Ti-mô-thê, là con yêu dấu của tôi, cùng là trung thành trong Chúa, đến cùng anh em; người sẽ nhắc lại cho anh em biết đường lối tôi trong Ðấng Christ, và tôi dạy dỗ cách nào trong các Hội thánh khắp các nơi. 18Có mấy kẻ lên mình kiêu ngạo, ngờ tôi chẳng còn đến cùng anh em nữa. 19Nhưng nếu Chúa khứng cho, thì chẳng bao lâu tôi sẽ tới cùng anh em, và xét cho biết, chẳng phải xét lời nói của những kẻ kiêu ngạo đó, bèn là năng lực họ thể nào. 20Vì nước Ðức Chúa Trời chẳng ở tại lời nói, mà ở tại năng lực. 21Anh em muốn điều gì hơn: muốn tôi cầm roi mà đến cùng anh em, hay là lấy tình yêu thương và ý nhu mì?
1So let a man think of us as Christ’s servants, and stewards of God’s mysteries. 2Here, moreover, it is required of stewards, that they be found faithful. 3But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you, or by man’s judgment. Yes, I don’t judge my own self. 4For I know nothing against myself. Yet I am not justified by this, but he who judges me is the Lord. 5Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each man will get his praise from God. 6Now these things, brothers, I have in a figure transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that in us you might learn not to think beyond the things which are written, that none of you be puffed up against one another. 7For who makes you different? And what do you have that you didn’t receive? But if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it? 8You are already filled. You have already become rich. You have come to reign without us. Yes, and I wish that you did reign, that we also might reign with you. 9For, I think that God has displayed us, the apostles, last of all, like men sentenced to death. For we are made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and men. 10We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You have honor, but we have dishonor. 11Even to this present hour we hunger, thirst, are naked, are beaten, and have no certain dwelling place. 12We toil, working with our own hands. When people curse us, we bless. Being persecuted, we endure. 13Being defamed, we entreat. We are made as the filth of the world, the dirt wiped off by all, even until now. 14I don’t write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. 15For though you have ten thousand tutors in Christ, yet not many fathers. For in Christ Jesus, I became your father through the Good News. 16I beg you therefore, be imitators of me. 17Because of this I have sent Timothy to you, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, who will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, even as I teach everywhere in every assembly. 18Now some are puffed up, as though I were not coming to you. 19But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord is willing. And I will know, not the word of those who are puffed up, but the power. 20For the Kingdom of God is not in word, but in power. 21What do you want? Shall I come to you with a rod, or in love and a spirit of gentleness?
1Alzo houde ons een ieder mens, als dienaars van Christus, en uitdelers der verborgenheden Gods. 2En voorts wordt in de uitdelers vereist, dat elk getrouw bevonden worde. 3Doch mij is voor het minste, dat ik van ulieden geoordeeld worde, of van een menselijk oordeel; ja, ik oordeel ook mijzelven niet. 4Want ik ben mijzelven van geen ding bewust; doch ik ben daardoor niet gerechtvaardigd; maar Die mij oordeelt, is de Heere. 5Zo dan oordeelt niets voor den tijd, totdat de Heere zal gekomen zijn, Welke ook in het licht zal brengen, hetgeen in de duisternis verborgen is, en openbaren de raadslagen der harten; en alsdan zal een iegelijk lof hebben van God. 6En deze dingen, broeders, heb ik op mijzelven en Apollos bij gelijkenis toegepast, om uwentwil; opdat gij aan ons zoudt leren, niet te gevoelen boven hetgeen geschreven is, dat gij niet, de een om eens anders wil, opgeblazen wordt tegen den ander. 7Want wie onderscheidt u? En wat hebt gij, dat gij niet hebt ontvangen? En zo gij het ook ontvangen hebt, wat roemt gij, alsof gij het niet ontvangen hadt? 8Alrede zijt gij verzadigd, alrede zijt gij rijk geworden, zonder ons hebt gij geheerst; en och, of gij heerstet, opdat ook wij met u heersen mochten! 9Want ik acht, dat God ons, die de laatste apostelen zijn, ten toon heeft gesteld als tot den dood verwezen; want wij zijn een schouwspel geworden der wereld, en den engelen, en den mensen. 10Wij zijn dwazen om Christus' wil, maar gij zijt wijzen in Christus; wij zijn zwakken, maar gij sterken; gij zijt heerlijken, maar wij verachten. 11Tot op deze tegenwoordige ure lijden wij honger, en lijden wij dorst, en zijn naakt, en worden met vuisten geslagen, en hebben geen vaste woonplaats; 12En arbeiden, werkende met onze eigen handen; wij worden gescholden, en wij zegenen; wij worden vervolgd, en wij verdragen; 13Wij worden gelasterd, en wij bidden; wij zijn geworden als uitvaagsels der wereld en aller afschrapsel tot nu toe. 14Ik schrijf deze dingen niet om u te beschamen, maar als mijn lieve kinderen vermaan ik u. 15Want al hadt gij tien duizend leermeesters in Christus, zo hebt gij toch niet vele vaders; want in Christus Jezus heb ik u door het Evangelie geteeld. 16Zo vermaan ik u dan: zijt mijn navolgers. 17Daarom heb ik Timotheus tot u gezonden, die mijn lieve en getrouwe zoon is in den Heere, welke u zal indachtig maken mijn wegen, die in Christus zijn, gelijkerwijs ik alom in alle Gemeenten leer. 18Doch sommigen zijn opgeblazen, alsof ik tot ulieden niet komen zou. 19Maar ik zal haast tot u komen, zo de Heere wil, en ik zal dan verstaan, niet de woorden dergenen, die opgeblazen zijn, maar de kracht. 20Want het Koninkrijk Gods is niet gelegen in woorden, maar in kracht. 21Wat wilt gij? Zal ik met de roede tot u komen, of in liefde en in den geest der zachtmoedigheid?
