1Филистії зібрали своє військо до бою, та й зійшлись в Сохотї, що в Юдеї, та й отаборились під Ефес-Даммимом між Сохотом і Азеком. 2Саул же й Ізраїльське військо скупились й отаборились в долинї Теребінта та й готовились до війни з Филистіями. 3Филистії стали по сїм боцї на горі, а Ізрайлитяне по тім боцї на горі, так що між ними була долина. 4І виступив із табору Филистійського одноборець, на ймя Голіят, із Гета, ростом шістьох локот з пяддю, 5У мідяному шоломі на голові, в панцері ваги пять тисяч мідяних секлів; 6На ногах носив мідяні колїнники і мідяного щита за плечима. 7Ратовище ж у його було загрубшки як ткацький вал, а сама списа важила шістьсот секлів залїза, й поперед його ходив його зброєноша. 8І виступав він та й гукав лавам Ізраїльським: Про що вийшли ви воюватись? Хиба ж я не Филистій, а ви не крепаки Саулові? Вибирайте одного з вас, щоб виступив проти мене! 9Коли зможе боротись зо мною та подужає мене, то ми будемо вашими рабами; коли ж я переважу його та подужаю, так ви будете нашими рабами і мусите нам служити. 10І говорив Филистій: отсе я поругав полки Ізраїльські; дайте ж менї чоловіка, а ми поборемось у двох! 11Почувши Саул і ввесь Ізраїль сї Филистієві речі, вжахнулись і полякались вельми. 12Давид же та був син одного Ефратїя із Бетлеєма Юдиного, на ймя Ессея, що було в його вісїм синів. За Саулового віку був се старий чоловік і геть то старший між мужами. 13Троє ж старших синів Ессеєвих пійшли з Саулом на війну. Сі троє синів його звались: найстарший Еліяв, другий за ним Аминадаб, а третий Самма. 14Давид же був найменьший; три старші пійшли з Саулом. 15Давид же вернув був од Саула додому, щоб у Бетлеємі доглядати батькової отари. 16Та Филистій виходив рано й вечір і показував себе сорок днїв уже. 17От і звелїв раз Ессей синові свойму Давидові: Возьми лишень братам твоїм ефу піджареного зерна та десять боханцїв хлїба та віднеси хутенько братам у табір; 18А сї десять молочних сирів однеси гетьманові, та довідайся, яково там братам твоїм, та чого б їм треба. 19Саул же й вони й усе Ізраїлське військо стояли в Теребинтовій долинї, і ладились до бою з Филистіями. 20І здав Давид назавтра вранцї рано отару пастухові, забрав усе та й пійшов у дорогу, як наказав йому Ессей. Як прийшов же до обозу, саме тодї вирушило військо боєвими лавами, й знявсь військовий крик. 21Як Ізрайлитяне, так і Филистії стояли готові до бою, лава навпроти лави. 22І слобонившись Давид від своїх клунків, передав те все обозному сторожові та й побіг у боєві лави, а ввійшовши туди, спитав у братів, як їм живеться. 23Саме ж тодї як він розмовляв із ними, виступив із Филистійських рядів одноборець, на імя Голіят, Филистій з Гета, і провадив звичайні свої речі, так що й Давид їх чув. 24Як же побачили Ізраїльські вояки сього чоловіка, утїкали з перед нього і лякались вельми. 25І говорили Ізрайлитяне: бачите сього чоловіка, що он виходить? Виступає він, щоб зневажати Ізраїля; коли б хто вбив його, то царь одарував би його багацтвом, і оддав би дочку за його, а родину батька його звільнив би від усякої данини. 26І допитував Давид у тих мужів, що стояли коло його: Що буде тому, хто вбє сього Филистія, що так зневажає військо живого Бога? 27А люде відказали йому так само: Те й те буде тому, хто його вбє. 28Як почув же найстарший брат Давидів Еліяб, що він говорить з тими мужами, то й розсердився Еліяб на Давида та й каже: Про що прийшов ти сюди, і на кого покинув тих трохи овечат у степу? Я знаю твою гординю і дурне твоє серце. Прийшов ти сюди дивитись на війну. 29І відказав Давид: Що ж таке вчинив я? То було тілько слово. 30І повернувсь од його до другого, і питав тим же робом, і відказували йому люде, як і за першим разом. 31Як же пійшла поголоска про те, як допитувався Давид, переказано про се Саулові, і звелїв Саул покликати його. 32І промовив Давид до Саула: Нехай нїхто не впадає духом ізза оттого; раб твій виступить та й бити меться з тим Филистієм. 33І відказав Саул Давидові: Не тобі виходити проти сього Филистія, щоб із ним битись, бо ти ще хлопець, а він вояка з молодощів. 34І сказав Давид Саулові: Раб твій доглядав батькової отари і як инодї прийде було лев, чи то ведмідь та вхопить овеча зміж отари, 35Так я бувало біжу та й бю його, покіль вирву йому з пащі овеча. Якже він кидавсь на мене, то я вхоплю його за горло та й убю на смерть. 36Леви й ведмедї вбивав раб твій, так мусить і сьому необрізаному Филистієві так само бути, як з ними, бо він зневажає воїнів живого Бога. 37І закінчив Давид: Господь, що рятував мене із левиних і ведмежих лаб, вирятує мене й з рук сього Филистія. І каже Саул Давидові: Йди, і нехай Господь буде з тобою! 38І вдїг Саул Давида в свою боєву одїж, і вложив йому на голову мідяного шолома, і надїв на нього панцера. 39І підперезавсь Давид мечем його по боєвій одежі його і силкувавсь ходити, бо він не привик був до такого. Відтак сказав Давид Саулові: Я не вмію в сьому ходити, я бо не навик. І зняв Давид все те з себе. 40І взяв він палицю свою в руку і знайшов собі пять гладеньких каменїв в потоцї та й вложив їх собі в пастушу торбину, і взяв свою пращу в руку та й виступив проти Филистія. 41Филистій же наступав усе близше та близше на Давида, і той чоловік, що носив йому щита, йшов поперед його. 42Як споглянув же Филистій та побачив Давида, то й погордував ним, бо сей був ще хлопець, і краснощокий і принадного виду. 43І каже Филистій Давидові: Хиба я пес, що ти йдеш на мене з ціпком? І закляв Филистій Давидові своїми богами. 44І каже Филистій Давидові: Ходи сюди і віддам я тїло твоє птаству під небом та звіррю польовому. 45А Давид відказує Филистієві: Ти йдеш на мене з мечем, списом і щитом, я ж ійду на тебе в імя Господа Саваота, в імя Бога війск Ізраїлських, що ти зневажав. 46У сей день оддасть тебе Господь менї в руки, і я вбю тебе й відсїчу тобі голову, і передам ще сьогоднї трупа твого й трупи Филистійського війська птаству під небесами і звірям земним, і зрозуміє вся земля, що є Бог ув Ізраїлї; 47І взнає ввесь сей збір, що не мечем та списом спасає Господь, бо се війна Господня, і він оддасть вас нам у руки. 48Як же Филистій наладивсь і підступав та наближався ʼк Давиду, побіг Давид швидко зустріч Филистієві під боєві лави, 49І вхопив Давид з торби рукою каменя, і розмахнувши пращею, викинув його та й уцїлив Филистія в чоло; і вбивсь камінь йому в лоба, так що він упав лицем на землю. 50Так подужав Давид Филистія каменем із пращі і вбив Филистія, хоч і не було меча в руцї в Давида. 51Тодї підбіг Давид, наступив ногою на Филистія, вхопив меча його, вийняв із піхви, та й відсїк ним голову його. Побачивши ж тодї Филистії, що велитень їх мертвий, кинулись навтеки. 52І піднялись мужі Ізраїльські й Юдині і зняли боєвий поклик та й пігнали за Филистіями аж до входу в долину й до воріт Аккарону. І падали побивані Филистії по дорозї Шааримській, до Гета й до Аккарону. 53І вернулись Ізрайлитяне з погонї за Филистіями та й розграбили їх табір. 54Давид же взяв голову Филистієву та й однїс у Ерусалим, а його зброю зложив у себе в наметї. 55Як побачив Саул Давида, що йде проти Филистія, так поспитав у свого військового гетьмана Абенира: Чий би се був син оттой молодець? І відказав Абенир: Так певно, як ти живеш, царю, не знаю. 56І сказав йому царь: То довідайся, чий син сей молодик. 57Як же вертався Давид, убивши Филистія, взяв його Абенир та й привів перед Саула, а він держав іще Филистієву голову в руцї. 58І поспитав його Саул: Чий ти син, молодче? І відказав Давид: Син раба твого Ессея з Бетлеєму.
1Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle; and they were gathered together at Socoh, which belongs to Judah, and encamped between Socoh and Azekah, in Ephesdammim. 2Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and encamped in the valley of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines. 3The Philistines stood on the mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on the mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them. 4There went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. 5He had a helmet of brass on his head, and he was clad with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass. 6He had brass shin armor on his legs, and a javelin of brass between his shoulders. 7The staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam; and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and his shield bearer went before him. 8He stood and cried to the armies of Israel, and said to them, “Why have you come out to set your battle in array? Am I not a Philistine, and you servants to Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me. 9If he be able to fight with me, and kill me, then will we be your servants; but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then you will be our servants, and serve us.” 10The Philistine said, “I defy the armies of Israel this day! Give me a man, that we may fight together!” 11When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid. 12Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem Judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man was an old man in the days of Saul, stricken among men. 13The three eldest sons of Jesse had gone after Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons who went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and next to him Abinadab, and the third Shammah. 14David was the youngest; and the three eldest followed Saul. 15Now David went back and forth from Saul to feed his father’s sheep at Bethlehem. 16The Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days. 17Jesse said to David his son, “Now take for your brothers an ephah of this parched grain, and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp to your brothers; 18and bring these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand, and see how your brothers are doing, and bring back news.” 19Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines. 20David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the place of the wagons, as the army which was going out to the fight shouted for the battle. 21Israel and the Philistines put the battle in array, army against army. 22David left his baggage in the hand of the keeper of the baggage, and ran to the army, and came and greeted his brothers. 23As he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the ranks of the Philistines, and spoke according to the same words: and David heard them. 24All the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were terrified. 25The men of Israel said, “Have you seen this man who has come up? He has surely come up to defy Israel. It shall be, that the man who kills him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father’s house free in Israel.” 26David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, “What shall be done to the man who kills this Philistine, and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” 27The people answered him in this way, saying, “So shall it be done to the man who kills him.” 28Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, “Why have you come down? With whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride, and the naughtiness of your heart; for you have come down that you might see the battle.” 29David said, “What have I now done? Is there not a cause?” 30He turned away from him toward another, and spoke like that again; and the people answered him again the same way. 31When the words were heard which David spoke, they rehearsed them before Saul; and he sent for him. 32David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.” 33Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.” 34David said to Saul, “Your servant was keeping his father’s sheep; and when a lion or a bear came, and took a lamb out of the flock, 35I went out after him, and struck him, and rescued it out of his mouth. When he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and struck him, and killed him. 36Your servant struck both the lion and the bear. This uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, since he has defied the armies of the living God.” 37David said, “Yahweh who delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go; and Yahweh shall be with you.” 38Saul dressed David with his clothing. He put a helmet of brass on his head, and he clad him with a coat of mail. 39David strapped his sword on his clothing, and he tried to move; for he had not tested it. David said to Saul, “I can’t go with these; for I have not tested them.” David took them off. 40He took his staff in his hand, and chose for himself five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the shepherd’s bag which he had, even in his wallet. His sling was in his hand; and he drew near to the Philistine. 41The Philistine came on and drew near to David; and the man who bore the shield went before him. 42When the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and withal of a fair face. 43The Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” The Philistine cursed David by his gods. 44The Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the sky, and to the animals of the field.” 45Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin: but I come to you in the name of Yahweh of Armies, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46Today, Yahweh will deliver you into my hand. I will strike you, and take your head from off you. I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky, and to the wild animals of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, 47and that all this assembly may know that Yahweh doesn’t save with sword and spear: for the battle is Yahweh’s, and he will give you into our hand.” 48When the Philistine arose, and came and drew near to meet David, David hurried, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. 49David put his hand in his bag, took a stone, and slung it, and struck the Philistine in his forehead; and the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. 50So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine, and killed him; but there was no sword in the hand of David. 51Then David ran, and stood over the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of its sheath, and killed him, and cut off his head therewith. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled. 52The men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until you come to Gai, and to the gates of Ekron. The wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even to Gath, and to Ekron. 53The children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they plundered their camp. 54David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armor in his tent. 55When Saul saw David go out against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the captain of the army, “Abner, whose son is this youth?” Abner said, “As your soul lives, O king, I can’t tell.” 56The king said, “Inquire whose son the young man is!” 57As David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand. 58Saul said to him, “Whose son are you, you young man?” David answered, “I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.”
1En de Filistijnen verzamelden hun heir ten strijde, en verzamelden zich te Socho, dat in Juda is; en zij legerden zich tussen Socho en tussen Azeka, aan het einde van Dammim. 2Doch Saul en de mannen van Israel verzamelden zich, en legerden zich in het eikendal; en stelden de slagorde tegen de Filistijnen aan. 3De Filistijnen nu stonden aan een berg aan gene, en de Israelieten stonden aan een berg aan deze zijde; en de vallei was tussen hen. 4Toen ging er een kampvechter uit, uit het leger der Filistijnen; zijn naam was Goliath, van Gath; zijn hoogte was zes ellen en een span. 5En hij had een koperen helm op zijn hoofd, en hij had een schubachtig pantsier aan; en het gewicht van het pantsier was vijf duizend sikkelen kopers; 6En een koperen scheenharnas boven zijn voeten, en een koperen schild tussen zijn schouders; 7En de schacht zijner spies was als een weversboom, en het lemmer zijner spies was van zeshonderd sikkelen ijzers; en de schilddrager ging voor zijn aangezicht. 8Deze nu stond, en riep tot de slagorden van Israel, en zeide tot hen: Waarom zoudt gijlieden uittrekken, om de slagorde te stellen? Ben ik niet een Filistijn, en gijlieden knechten van Saul? Kiest een man onder u, die tot mij afkome. 9Indien hij tegen mij strijden en mij verslaan kan, zo zullen wij ulieden tot knechten zijn; maar indien ik hem overwin en hem sla, zo zult gij ons tot knechten zijn, en ons dienen. 10Verder zeide de Filistijn: Ik heb heden de slagorden van Israel gehoond, zeggende: Geeft mij een man, dat wij te zamen strijden! 11Toen Saul en het ganse Israel deze woorden van den Filistijn hoorden, zo ontzetten zij zich, en vreesden zeer. 12David nu was de zoon van den Efrathischen man van Bethlehem-Juda, wiens naam was Isai, en die acht zonen had, en in de dagen van Saul was hij een man, oud, afgaande onder de mannen. 13En de drie grootste zonen van Isai gingen heen; zij volgden Saul na in den krijg. De namen nu zijner drie zonen, die in den krijg gingen, waren: Eliab, de eerstgeborene, en zijn tweede Abinadab, en de derde Samma. 14En David was de kleinste; en de drie grootsten waren Saul nagevolgd. 15Doch David ging henen, en kwam weder van Saul, om zijns vaders schapen te weiden te Bethlehem. 16De Filistijn nu trad toe, des morgens vroeg en des avonds. Alzo stelde hij zich daar veertig dagen lang. 17En Isai zeide tot zijn zoon David: Neem toch voor uw broeders een efa van dit geroost koren, en deze tien broden, en breng ze ter loops in het leger tot uw broederen. 18Maar breng deze tien melkkazen aan de oversten over duizend; en gij zult uw broederen bezoeken, of het hun welga, en gij zult van hen pand medenemen. 19Saul nu, en zij, en alle mannen van Israel waren bij het eikendal met de Filistijnen strijdende. 20Toen maakte zich David des morgens vroeg op, en hij liet de schapen bij den hoeder, en hij nam het op, en ging henen, gelijk als Isai hem bevolen had; en hij kwam aan den wagenburg, als het heir in slagorde uittoog, en men ten strijde riep. 21En de Israelieten en Filistijnen stelden slagorde tegen slagorde. 22David nu liet de vaten van zich, onder de hand van den bewaarder der vaten, en hij liep ter slagorde; en hij kwam en vraagde zijn broederen naar hun welstand. 23Toen hij met hen sprak, ziet, zo kwam der kampvechter op; zijn naam was Goliath, de Filistijn van Gath, uit het heir der Filistijnen, en hij sprak achtervolgens die woorden; en David hoorde ze. 24Doch alle mannen in Israel, als zij dien man zagen, zo vluchtten zij voor zijn aangezicht, en zij vreesden zeer. 25En de mannen Israels zeiden: Hebt gijlieden dien man wel gezien, die opgekomen is? Want hij is opgekomen, om Israel te honen; en het zal geschieden, dat de koning dien man, die hem slaat, met groten rijkdom verrijken zal, en hij zal hem zijn dochter geven, en hij zal zijns vaders huis vrijmaken in Israel. 26Toen zeide David tot de mannen, die bij hem stonden, zeggende: Wat zal men dien man doen, die dezen Filistijn slaat, en den smaad van Israel wendt? Want wie is deze onbesneden Filistijn, dat hij de slagorden van den levenden God zou honen? 27Wederom zeide hem het volk achtervolgens dat woord, zeggende: Alzo zal men den man doen, die hem slaat. 28Als Eliab, zijn grootste broeder, hem tot die mannen hoorde spreken, zo ontstak de toorn van Eliab tegen David, en hij zeide: Waarom zijt gij nu afgekomen, en onder wien hebt gij de weinige schapen in de woestijn gelaten? Ik ken uw vermetelheid, en de boosheid uws harten wel; want gij zijt afgekomen, opdat gij den strijd zaagt. 29Toen zeide David: Wat heb ik nu gedaan? Is er geen oorzaak? 30En hij wendde zich af van dien naar een anderen toe, en hij zeide achtervolgens dat woord; en het volk gaf hem weder antwoord, achtervolgens de eerste woorden. 31Toen die woorden gehoord werden, die David gesproken had, en in de tegenwoordigheid van Saul verkondigd werden, zo liet hij hem halen. 32En David zeide tot Saul: Aan geen mens ontvalle het hart, om zijnentwil. Uw knecht zal heengaan en hij zal met dezen Filistijn strijden. 33Maar Saul zeide tot David: Gij zult niet kunnen heengaan tot dezen Filistijn, om met hem te strijden; want gij zijt een jongeling, en hij is een krijgsman van zijn jeugd af. 34Toen zeide David tot Saul: Uw knecht weid de schapen zijns vaders, en er kwam een leeuw en een beer, en nam een schaap van de kudde weg. 35En ik ging uit hem na, en ik sloeg hem, en redde het uit zijn mond; toen hij tegen mij opstond, zo vatte ik hem bij zijn baard, en sloeg hem, en doodde hem. 36Uw knecht heeft zo den leeuw als den beer geslagen; alzo zal deze onbesneden Filistijn zijn, gelijk een van die, omdat hij de slagorden van den levenden God gehoond heeft. 37Verder zeide David: De HEERE, Die mij van de hand des leeuws gered heeft, en uit de hand des beers, Die zal mij redden uit de hand van dezen Filistijn. Toen zeide Saul tot David: Ga heen, en de HEERE zij met u! 38En Saul kleedde David met zijn klederen, en zette een koperen helm op zijn hoofd, en kleedde hem met een pantsier. 39En David gordde zijn zwaard aan over zijn klederen, en wilde gaan; want hij had het nooit verzocht. Toen zeide David tot Saul: Ik kan in deze niet gaan, want ik heb het nooit verzocht; en David legde ze van zich. 40En hij nam zijn staf in zijn hand, en hij koos zich vijf gladde stenen uit de beek, en legde ze in de herderstas, die hij had, te weten in den zak, en zijn slinger was in zijn hand; alzo naderde hij tot den Filistijn. 41De Filistijn ging ook heen, gaande en naderende tot David, en zijn schilddrager ging voor zijn aangezicht. 42Toen de Filistijn opzag, en David zag, zo verachtte hij hem; want hij was een jongeling, roodachtig, mitsgaders schoon van aanzien. 43De Filistijn nu zeide tot David: Ben ik een hond, dat gij tot mij komt met stokken? En de Filistijn vloekte David bij zijn goden. 44Daarna zeide de Filistijn tot David: Kom tot mij, zo zal ik uw vlees aan de vogelen des hemels geven, en aan de dieren des velds. 45David daarentegen zeide tot den Filistijn: Gij komt tot mij met een zwaard, en met een spies, en met een schild; maar ik kom tot u in den Naam van den HEERE der heirscharen, den God der slagorden van Israel, Dien gij gehoond hebt. 46Te dezen dage zal de HEERE u besluiten in mijn hand, en ik zal u slaan, en ik zal uw hoofd van u wegnemen, en ik zal de dode lichamen van der Filistijnen leger dezen dag aan de vogelen des hemels, en aan de beesten des velds geven; en de ganse aarde zal weten, dat Israel een God heeft. 47En deze ganse vergadering zal weten, dat de HEERE niet door het zwaard, noch door de spies verlost; want de krijg is des HEEREN, Die zal ulieden in onze hand geven. 48En het geschiedde, toen de Filistijn zich opmaakte, en heenging, en David tegemoet naderde, zo haastte David, en liep naar de slagorde toe, den Filistijn tegemoet. 49En David stak zijn hand in de tas, en hij nam een steen daaruit, en hij slingerde, en trof den Filistijn in zijn voorhoofd; zodat de steen zonk in zijn voorhoofd, en hij viel op zijn aangezicht ter aarde. 50Alzo overweldigde David den Filistijn met een slinger en met een steen; en hij versloeg den Filistijn, en doodde hem; doch David had geen zwaard in de hand. 51Daarom liep David, en stond op den Filistijn, en nam zijn zwaard, en hij trok het uit zijn schede, en hij doodde hem, en hij hieuw hem het hoofd daarmede af. En Abner zeide: Zo waarachtig als uw ziel leeft, o koning! ik weet het niet. 56De koning nu zeide: Vraag gij het, wiens zoon deze jongeling is. 57Als David wederkeerde van het slaan des Filistijns, zo nam hem Abner, en hij bracht hem voor het aangezicht van Saul, en het hoofd van den Filistijn was in zijn hand. 58En Saul zeide tot hem: Wiens zoon zijt gij, jongeling? En David zeide: Ik ben een zoon van uw knecht Isai, den Bethlehemiet.
