What is Thread?

A Bible app that helps you understand what you read

Thread is free and works in your browser, on your phone, tablet or computer. Nothing to install. You don't need an account, but it is handy for keeping your progress.

How it works

  1. 1

Look up a verse or a word

Type “John 3:16”, “Ps 23” or just “shepherd”. Thread understands abbreviations in eight languages.

  2. 2

    Read it in context

Your verse is marked among the verses around it. Zoom out to the passage, the chapter or the structure of the whole book.

  3. 3

    Discover the background

A context card tells you who wrote it, for whom and when. Three layers keep text, background and interpretation apart.

  4. 4

    Read it together

The family moment gives a short explanation in plain words, a question for every age and something to do together.

Who is it for?

  • The curious

You know a few verses, but you want to know what is behind them.

  • Seekers

You wonder who Jesus is, and whether you can trust the Bible.

  • Believers

You want to dig deeper than a daily devotional.

  • Families and children

You want to read together, in a way that captures children.

Free, for good

Thread is free and will stay that way. No ads, no subscription, no tracking. We want as many people as possible to be able to read the Bible and get to know Jesus.

What we stand for

Thread writes from the historic Christian faith, as summed up in the Apostles' Creed. We believe the Bible tells one story that leads to Jesus Christ. Where churches differ, we set the readings honestly side by side.
