1E aconteceu que o povo se queixou aos ouvidos do SENHOR: e ouviu-o o SENHOR, e ardeu seu furor, e acendeu-se neles fogo do SENHOR e consumiu um extremo do acampamento. 2Então o povo clamou a Moisés, e Moisés orou ao SENHOR, e apagou-se o fogo. 3E chamou a aquele lugar Taberá; porque o fogo do SENHOR se acendeu neles. 4E o vulgo que havia em meio teve um vivo desejo, e voltaram-se, e ainda choraram os filhos de Israel, e disseram: Quem nos dera a comer carne! 5Nos lembramos do peixe que comíamos no Egito de graça, dos pepinos, e dos melões, e dos alhos-porós, e das cebolas, e dos alhos: 6E agora nossa alma se seca; que nada a não ser maná vem diante dos nossos olhos. 7E era o maná como semente de coentro, e sua cor como cor de bdélio. 8Espalhava-se o povo, e recolhiam, e moíam em moinhos, ou malhavam em pilões, e o coziam em caldeira, ou faziam dele tortas: e seu sabor era como sabor de azeite novo. 9E quando descia o orvalho sobre o acampamento de noite, o maná descia de sobre ele. 10E ouviu Moisés ao povo, que chorava por suas famílias, cada um à porta de sua tenda: e o furor do SENHOR se acendeu em grande maneira; também pareceu mal a Moisés. 11E disse Moisés ao SENHOR: Por que fizeste mal a teu servo? e por que não achei favor em teus olhos, que puseste a carga de todo este povo sobre mim? 12Concebi eu a todo este povo? Gerei-o eu, para que me digas: Leva-o em teu peito, como leva a que cria ao que mama, à terra da qual juraste a seus pais? 13De onde tenho eu carne para dar a todo este povo? porque choram a mim, dizendo: Dá-nos carne para comer. 14Não posso eu sozinho suportar a todo este povo, que me é pesado em excesso. 15E se assim o fazes tu comigo, eu te rogo que me dês a morte, se achei favor em teus olhos; e que eu não veja meu mal. 16Então o SENHOR disse a Moisés: Junta-me setenta homens dos anciãos de Israel, de quem sabes que são anciãos do povo e seus oficiais; e traze-os à porta do tabernáculo do testemunho, e esperem ali contigo. 17E eu descerei e falarei ali contigo; e tomarei do espírito que está em ti, e porei neles; e levarão contigo a carga do povo, e não a levarás tu sozinho. 18Porém dirás ao povo: Santificai-vos para amanhã, e comereis carne: pois que chorastes em ouvidos do SENHOR, dizendo: Quem nos dera a comer carne! Certamente melhor nos ia no Egito! O SENHOR, pois, vos dará carne, e comereis. 19Não comereis um dia, nem dois dias, nem cinco dias, nem dez dias, nem vinte dias; 20Mas sim até um mês de tempo, até que vos saia pelas narinas, e vos seja em aborrecimento: porquanto menosprezastes ao SENHOR que está em meio de vós, e chorastes diante dele, dizendo: Para que saímos aqui do Egito? 21Então disse Moisés: Seiscentos mil a pé é o povo em meio do qual eu estou; e tu dizes: Lhes darei carne, e comerão o tempo de um mês. 22Se degolarão para eles ovelhas e bois que lhes bastem? ou se juntarão para eles todos os peixes do mar para que tenham o suficiente? 23Então o SENHOR respondeu a Moisés: Encurtou-se a mão do SENHOR? agora verás se te sucede meu dito, ou não. 24E saiu Moisés, e disse ao povo as palavras do SENHOR: e juntou os setenta homens dos anciãos do povo, e os fez estar ao redor do tabernáculo. 25Então o SENHOR desceu na nuvem, e falou-lhe; e tomou do espírito que estava nele, e o pôs nos setenta homens anciãos; e foi que, quando pousou sobre eles o espírito, profetizaram, e não cessaram. 26E haviam ficado no acampamento dois homens, chamado um Eldade e o outro Medade, sobre os quais também repousou o espírito: estavam estes entre os inscritos, mas não haviam saído ao tabernáculo; e profetizaram no acampamento. 27E correu um jovem, e deu aviso a Moisés, e disse: Eldade e Medade profetizam no acampamento. 28Então respondeu Josué filho de Num, assistente de Moisés, um de seus rapazes, e disse: Senhor meu Moisés, impede-os. 29E Moisés lhe respondeu: Tens tu ciúmes por mim? mas bom seria se todo o povo do SENHOR fossem profetas, que o SENHOR pusesse seu espírito sobre eles. 30E recolheu-se Moisés ao acampamento, ele e os anciãos de Israel. 31E saiu um vento do SENHOR, e trouxe codornizes do mar, e deixou-as sobre o acampamento, um dia de caminho de uma parte, e um dia de caminho da outra, em derredor do acampamento, e quase dois côvados sobre a face da terra. 32Então o povo esteve levantado todo aquele dia, e toda a noite, e todo o dia seguinte, e recolheram para si codornizes: o que menos, recolheu dez amontoados; e as estenderam para si ao comprimento em derredor do acampamento. 33Ainda estava a carne entre os dentes deles, antes que fosse mastigada, quando o furor do SENHOR se acendeu no povo, e feriu o SENHOR ao povo com uma muito grande praga. 34E chamou o nome daquele lugar Quibrote-Hataavá, porquanto ali sepultaram ao povo cobiçoso. 35De Quibrote-Hataavá moveu o povo a Hazerote, e pararam em Hazerote.
1The people were complaining in the ears of Yahweh. When Yahweh heard it, his anger was kindled; and Yahweh’s fire burnt among them, and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp. 2The people cried to Moses; and Moses prayed to Yahweh, and the fire abated. 3The name of that place was called Taberah, because Yahweh’s fire burnt among them. 4The mixed multitude that was among them lusted exceedingly: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, “Who will give us flesh to eat? 5We remember the fish, which we ate in Egypt for nothing; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic; 6but now we have lost our appetite. There is nothing at all except this manna to look at.” 7The manna was like coriander seed, and its appearance like the appearance of bdellium. 8The people went around, gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in mortars, and boiled it in pots, and made cakes of it. Its taste was like the taste of fresh oil. 9When the dew fell on the camp in the night, the manna fell on it. 10Moses heard the people weeping throughout their families, every man at the door of his tent; and Yahweh’s anger was kindled greatly; and Moses was displeased. 11Moses said to Yahweh, “Why have you treated with your servant so badly? Why haven’t I found favor in your sight, that you lay the burden of all this people on me? 12Have I conceived all this people? Have I brought them out, that you should tell me, ‘Carry them in your bosom, as a nurse carries a nursing infant, to the land which you swore to their fathers?’ 13Where could I get meat to give to all this people? For they weep to me, saying, ‘Give us meat, that we may eat.’ 14I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me. 15If you treat me this way, please kill me right now, if I have found favor in your sight; and don’t let me see my wretchedness.” 16Yahweh said to Moses, “Gather to me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them to the Tent of Meeting, that they may stand there with you. 17I will come down and talk with you there. I will take of the Spirit which is on you, and will put it on them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you not bear it yourself alone. 18“Say to the people, ‘Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow, and you will eat flesh; for you have wept in the ears of Yahweh, saying, “Who will give us flesh to eat? For it was well with us in Egypt.” Therefore Yahweh will give you flesh, and you will eat. 19You will not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days, 20but a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it is loathsome to you; because that you have rejected Yahweh who is among you, and have wept before him, saying, “Why did we come out of Egypt?”’” 21Moses said, “The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand men on foot; and you have said, ‘I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month.’ 22Shall flocks and herds be slaughtered for them, to be sufficient for them? Shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to be sufficient for them?” 23Yahweh said to Moses, “Has Yahweh’s hand grown short? Now you will see whether my word will happen to you or not.” 24Moses went out, and told the people Yahweh’s words; and he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them around the Tent. 25Yahweh came down in the cloud, and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was on him, and put it on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but they did so no more. 26But two men remained in the camp. The name of one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the Spirit rested on them; and they were of those who were written, but had not gone out to the Tent; and they prophesied in the camp. 27A young man ran, and told Moses, and said, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp!” 28Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his chosen men, answered, “My lord Moses, forbid them!” 29Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all Yahweh’s people were prophets, that Yahweh would put his Spirit on them!” 30Moses went into the camp, he and the elders of Israel. 31A wind from Yahweh went out and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, about a day’s journey on this side, and a day’s journey on the other side, around the camp, and about two cubits above the surface of the earth. 32The people rose up all that day, and all the night, and all the next day, and gathered the quails. He who gathered least gathered ten homers; and they spread them all abroad for themselves around the camp. 33While the flesh was yet between their teeth, before it was chewed, Yahweh’s anger was kindled against the people, and Yahweh struck the people with a very great plague. 34The name of that place was called Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who lusted. 35From Kibroth Hattaavah the people traveled to Hazeroth; and they stayed at Hazeroth.
1En het geschiedde, als het volk zich was beklagende, dat het kwaad was in de oren des HEEREN; want de HEERE hoorde het, zodat Zijn toorn ontstak, en het vuur des HEEREN onder hen ontbrandde, en verteerde, in het uiterste des legers. 2Toen riep het volk tot Mozes; en Mozes bad tot den HEERE; en het vuur werd gedempt. 3Daarom noemde hij den naam dier plaats Thab-era, omdat het vuur des HEEREN onder hen gebrand had. 4En het gemene volk, dat in het midden van hen was, werd met lust bevangen; daarom zo weenden ook de kinderen Israels wederom, en zeiden: Wie zal ons vlees te eten geven? 5Wij gedenken aan de vissen, die wij in Egypte om niet aten; aan de komkommers, en aan de pompoenen, en aan het look, en aan de ajuinen, en aan het knoflook. 6Maar nu is onze ziel dor, er is niet met al, behalve dit Man voor onze ogen! 7Het Man nu was als korianderzaad, en zijn verf was als de verf van den bedolah. 8Het volk liep hier en daar, en verzamelde het, en maalde het met molens, of stiet het in mortieren, en zood het in potten, en maakte daarvan koeken; en zijn smaak was als de smaak van de beste vochtigheid der olie. 9En wanneer de dauw des nachts op het leger nederviel, viel het Man op hetzelve neder. 10Toen hoorde Mozes het volk wenen door hun huisgezinnen, een ieder aan de deur zijner hut; en de toorn des HEEREN ontstak zeer; ook was het kwaad in de ogen van Mozes. 11En Mozes zeide tot de HEERE: Waarom hebt Gij aan Uw knecht kwalijk gedaan, en waarom heb ik geen genade in Uw ogen gevonden, dat Gij den last van dit ganse volk op mij legt? 12Heb ik dan al dit volk ontvangen? heb ik het gebaard? dat Gij tot mij zoudt zeggen: Draag het in uw schoot, gelijk als een voedstervader den zuigeling draagt, tot dat land, hetwelk Gij hun vaderen gezworen hebt? 13Van waar zou ik het vlees hebben, om al dit volk te geven? Want zij wenen tegen mij, zeggende: Geef ons vlees, dat wij eten! 14Ik alleen kan al dit volk niet dragen; want het is mij te zwaar! 15En indien Gij alzo aan mij doet, dood mij toch slechts, indien ik genade in Uw ogen gevonden heb; en laat mij mijn ongeluk niet aanzien! 16En de HEERE zeide tot Mozes: Verzamel Mij zeventig mannen uit de oudsten van Israel, dewelke gij weet, dat zij de oudsten des volks en deszelfs ambtlieden zijn; en gij zult hen brengen voor de tent der samenkomst, en zij zullen zich daar bij u stellen. 17Zo zal Ik afkomen en met u aldaar spreken; en van den Geest, die op u is, zal Ik afzonderen, en op hen leggen; en zij zullen met u den last van dit volk dragen, opdat gij dien alleen niet draagt. 18En tot het volk zult gij zeggen: Heiligt u tegen morgen, en gij zult vlees eten; want gij hebt voor de oren des HEEREN geweend, zeggende: Wie zal ons vlees te eten geven? want het ging ons wel in Egypte! Daarom zal de HEERE u vlees geven, en gij zult eten. 19Gij zult niet een dag, noch twee dagen eten, noch vijf dagen, noch tien dagen, noch twintig dagen; 20Tot een gehele maand toe, totdat het uit uw neus uitga, en u tot walging zij; overmits gij den HEERE, Die in het midden van u is, verworpen hebt, en hebt voor Zijn aangezicht geweend, zeggende: Waarom nu zijn wij uit Egypte getogen? 21En Mozes zeide: Zeshonderd duizend te voet is dit volk, in welks midden ik ben; en Gij hebt gezegd: Ik zal hun vlees geven, en zij zullen een gehele maand eten! 22Zullen dan voor hen schapen en runderen geslacht worden, dat voor hen genoeg zij? zullen al de vissen der zee voor hen verzameld worden, dat voor hen genoeg zij? 23Doch de HEERE zeide tot Mozes: Zou dan des HEEREN hand verkort zijn? Gij zult nu zien, of Mijn woord u wedervaren zal, of niet. 24En Mozes ging uit, en sprak de woorden des HEEREN tot het volk; en hij verzamelde zeventig mannen uit de oudsten des volks, en stelde hen rondom de tent. 25Toen kwam de HEERE af in de wolk, en sprak tot hem, en afzonderende van den Geest, die op hem was, legde Hem op de zeventig mannen, die oudsten; en het geschiedde, als de Geest op hen rustte, dat zij profeteerden, maar daarna niet meer. 26Maar twee mannen waren in het leger overgebleven; des enen naam was Eldad, en des anderen naam Medad; en die Geest rustte op hen (want zij waren onder de aangeschrevenen, hoewel zij tot de tent niet uitgegaan waren), en zij profeteerden in het leger. 27Toen liep een jongen heen, en boodschapte aan Mozes, en zeide: Eldad en Medad profeteren in het leger. 28En Jozua, de zoon van Nun, de dienaar van Mozes, een van zijn uitgelezen jongelingen, antwoordde en zeide: Mijn heer Mozes, verbied hun! 29Doch Mozes zeide tot hem: Zijt gij voor mij ijverende? Och of al dat volk des HEEREN profeten waren, dat de HEERE Zijn Geest over hen gave! 30Daarna verzamelde zich Mozes tot het leger, hij en de oudsten van Israel. 31Toen voer een wind uit van den HEERE, en raapte kwakkelen van de zee, en strooide ze bij het leger, omtrent een dagreize, en omtrent een dagreize derwaarts, rondom het leger; en zij waren omtrent twee ellen boven de aarde. 32Toen maakte zich het volk op, dien gehelen dag, en dien gansen nacht, en den gansen anderen dag, en verzamelden de kwakkelen; die het minst had, had tien homers verzameld; en zij spreidden ze voor zich van elkander rondom het leger. 33Dat vlees was nog tussen hun tanden, eer het gekauwd was, zo ontstak de toorn des HEEREN tegen het volk, en de HEERE sloeg het volk met een zeer grote plaag. 34Daarom heet men den naam derzelver plaats Kibroth Thaava; want daar begroeven zij het volk, dat belust was geweest. 35Van Kibroth Thaava verreisde het volk naar Hazeroth; en zij bleven in Hazeroth.
