사사기 12

1에브라임 사람들이 모여 북으로 가서 입다에게 이르되 네가 암몬자손과 싸우러 건너갈 때에 어찌하여 우리를 불러 너와 함께 가게 하지 아니하였느냐 우리가 반드시 불로 너와 네 집을 사르리라 2입다가 그들에게 이르되 나와 나의 백성이 암몬 자손과 크게 다툴 때에 내가 너희를 부르되 너희가 나를 그들의 손에서 구원하지 아니한고로 3내가 너희의 구원치 아니하는 것을 보고 내 생명을 돌아보지 아니하고 건너가서 암몬 자손을 쳤더니 여호와께서 그들을 내 손에 붙이셨거늘 너희가 어찌하여 오늘날 내게 올라와서 나로 더불어 싸우고자 하느냐 하고 4입다가 길르앗 사람을 다 모으고 에브라임과 싸웠더니 길르앗 사람들이 에브라임을 쳐서 파하였으니 이는 에브라임의 말이 너희 길르앗 사람은 본래 에브라임에서 도망한 자로서 에브라임과 므낫세 중에 있다 하였음이라 5길르앗 사람이 에브라임 사람 앞서 요단 나루턱을 잡아 지키고 에브라임 사람의 도망하는 자가 말하기를 청컨대 나로 건너게 하라 하면 그에게 묻기를 네가 에브라임 사람이냐 하여 그가 만일 아니라 하면 6그에게 이르기를 십볼렛이라 하라 하여 에브라임 사람이 능히 구음을 바로 하지 못하고 씹볼렛이라 하면 길르앗 사람이 곧 그를 잡아서 요단 나루턱에서 죽였더라 그 때에 에브라임 사람의 죽은 자가 사만 이천 명이었더라 7입다가 이스라엘 사사가 된지 육 년이라 길르앗 사람 입다가 죽으매 길르앗 한 성읍에 장사되었더라 8그의 뒤에는 베들레헴 입산이 이스라엘의 사사이었더라 9그가 아들 삼십과 딸 삼십을 두었더니 딸들은 타국으로 시집 보내었고 아들들을 위하여는 타국에서 여자 삼십을 데려왔더라 그 가 이스라엘 사사가 된지 칠 년이라 10입산이 죽으매 베들레헴에 장사되었더라 11그의 뒤에는 스불론 사람 엘론이 이스라엘의 사사가 되어 십 년 동안 이스라엘을 다스렸더라 12스불론 사람 엘론이 죽으매 스불론 땅 아얄론에 장사되었더라 13그의 뒤에는 비라돈 사람 힐렐의 아들 압돈이 이스라엘의 사사이었더라 14그에게 아들 사십과 손자 삼십이 있어서 어린 나귀 칠십 필을 탔었더라 압돈이 이스라엘의 사사가 된지 팔 년이라 15비라돈 사람 힐렐의 아들 압돈이 죽으매 에브라임 땅 아말렉 사람의 산지 비라돈에 장사되었더라

1The men of Ephraim were gathered together, and passed northward; and they said to Jephthah, “Why did you pass over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didn’t call us to go with you? We will burn your house around you with fire!” 2Jephthah said to them, “I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, you didn’t save me out of their hand. 3When I saw that you didn’t save me, I put my life in my hand, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and Yahweh delivered them into my hand. Why then have you come up to me this day, to fight against me?” 4Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead struck Ephraim, because they said, “You are fugitives of Ephraim, you Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim, and in the midst of Manasseh.” 5The Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. It was so, that when the fugitives of Ephraim said, “Let me go over,” the men of Gilead said to him, “Are you an Ephraimite?” If he said, “No”; 6then they said to him, “Now say ‘Shibboleth;’” and he said “Sibboleth”; for he couldn’t manage to pronounce it right: then they seized him, and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. At that time, forty-two thousand of Ephraim fell. 7Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then Jephthah the Gileadite died, and was buried in the cities of Gilead. 8After him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel. 9He had thirty sons; and thirty daughters he sent abroad, and thirty daughters he brought in from abroad for his sons. He judged Israel seven years. 10Ibzan died, and was buried at Bethlehem. 11After him Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years. 12Elon the Zebulunite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the land of Zebulun. 13After him Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel. 14He had forty sons and thirty sons’ sons, who rode on seventy donkey colts: and he judged Israel eight years. 15Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.

1Toen werden de mannen van Efraim bijeengeroepen, en trokken over naar het noorden; en zij zeiden tot Jeftha: Waarom zijt gij doorgetogen om te strijden tegen de kinderen Ammons, en hebt ons niet geroepen, om met u te gaan? wij zullen uw huis met u met vuur verbranden. 2En Jeftha zeide tot hen: Ik en mijn volk waren zeer twistig met de kinderen Ammons; en ik heb ulieden geroepen, maar gij hebt mij uit hun hand niet verlost. 3Als ik nu zag, dat gij niet verlostet, zo stelde ik mijn ziel in mijn hand, en toog door tot de kinderen Ammons, en de HEERE gaf hen in mijn hand; waarom zijt gij dan te dezen dage tot mij opgekomen, om tegen mij te strijden? 4En Jeftha vergaderde alle mannen van Gilead, en streed met Efraim; en de mannen van Gilead sloegen Efraim, want de Gileadieten, zijnde tussen Efraim en tussen Manasse, zeiden: Gijlieden zijt vluchtelingen van Efraim. 5Want de Gileadieten namen de Efraimieten de veren van de Jordaan af; en het geschiedde, als de vluchtelingen van Efraim zeiden: Laat mij overgaan; zo zeiden de mannen van Gilead tot hem: Zijt gij een Efraimiet? wanneer hij zeide: Neen; 6Zo zeiden zij tot hem: Zeg nu Schibboleth; maar hij zeide: Sibbolet, en kon het alzo niet recht spreken; zo grepen zij hem, en versloegen hem aan de veren van de Jordaan, dat te dier tijd van Efraim vielen twee en veertig duizend. 7Jeftha nu richtte Israel zes jaren; en Jeftha, de Gileadiet, stierf, en werd begraven in de steden van Gilead. 8En na hem richtte Israel Ebzan, van Bethlehem. 9En hij had dertig zonen; en hij zond dertig dochteren naar buiten, en bracht dertig dochteren van buiten in voor zijn zonen; en hij richtte Israel zeven jaren. 10Toen stierf Ebzan, en werd begraven te Bethlehem. 11En na hem richtte Israel Elon, de Zebuloniet, en hij richtte Israel tien jaren. 12En Elon, de Zebuloniet, stierf, en werd begraven te Ajalon, in het land van Zebulon. 13En na hem richtte Israel Abdon, een zoon van Hillel, de Pirhathoniet. 14En hij had veertig zonen, en dertig zoons zonen, rijdende op zeventig ezelveulens; en hij richtte Israel acht jaren. 15Toen stierf Abdon, een zoon van Hillel, de Pirhathoniet; en hij werd begraven te Pirhathon, in het land van Efraim, op den berg van den Amalekiet.
