1다리오 왕 이년 유월 곧 그 달 초하루에 여호와의 말씀이 선지자 학개로 말미암아 스알디엘의 아들 유다 총독 스룹바벨과 여호사닥의 아들 대제사장 여호수아에게 임하니라 가라사대 2만군의 여호와가 말하여 이르노라 이 백성이 말하기를 여호와의 전을 건축할 시기가 이르지 아니하였다 하느니라 3여호와의 말씀이 선지자 학개에게 임하여 가라사대 4이 전이 황무하였거늘 너희가 이 때에 판벽한 집에 거하는 것이 가하냐 5그러므로 이제 나 만군의 여호와가 말하노니 너희는 자기의 소위를 살펴 볼지니라 6너희가 많이 뿌릴지라도 수입이 적으며 먹을지라도 배부르지 못하며 마실지라도 흡족하지 못하며 입어도 따뜻하지 못하며 일꾼이 삯을 받아도 그것을 구멍 뚫어진 전대에 넣음이 되느니라 7나 만군의 여호와가 말하노니 너희는 자기의 소위를 살펴 볼지니라 8너희는 산에 올라가서 나무를 가져다가 전을 건축하라 그리하면 내가 그로 인하여 기뻐하고 또 영광을 얻으리라 나 여호와가 말하였느니라 9너희가 많은 것을 바랐으나 도리어 적었고 너희가 그것을 집으로 가져갔으나 내가 불어 버렸느니라 나 만군의 여호와가 말하노라 이것이 무슨 연고뇨 내 집은 황무하였으되 너희는 각각 자기의 집에 빨랐음이니라 10그러므로 너희로 인하여 하늘은 이슬을 그쳤고 땅은 산물을 그쳤으며 11내가 한재를 불러 이 땅에, 산에, 곡물에, 새 포도주에, 기름에, 땅의 모든 소산에, 사람에게, 육축에게, 손으로 수고하는 모든 일에 임하게 하였느니라 12스알디엘의 아들 스룹바벨과 여호사닥의 아들 대제사장 여호수아와 남은바 모든 백성이 그 하나님 여호와의 목소리와 선지자 학개의 말을 청종하였으니 이는 그들의 하나님 여호와께서 그를 보내셨음을 인함이라 백성이 다 여호와를 경외하매 13때에 여호와의 사자 학개가 여호와의 명을 의지하여 백성에게 고하여 가로되 나 여호와가 말하노니 내가 너희와 함께 하노라 하셨느니라 하니라 14여호와께서 스알디엘의 아들 유다 총독 스룹바벨의 마음과 여호사닥의 아들 대제사장 여호수아의 마음과 남은바 모든 백성의 마음을 흥분시키시매 그들이 와서 만군의 여호와 그들의 하나님의 전역사를 하였으니 15때는 다리오 왕 이년 유월 이십사일이었더라

1In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, Yahweh’s word came by Haggai, the prophet, to Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying, 2“This is what Yahweh of Armies says: These people say, ‘The time hasn’t yet come, the time for Yahweh’s house to be built.’” 3Then Yahweh’s word came by Haggai, the prophet, saying, 4“Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies waste? 5Now therefore this is what Yahweh of Armies says: Consider your ways. 6You have sown much, and bring in little. You eat, but you don’t have enough. You drink, but you aren’t filled with drink. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm, and he who earns wages earns wages to put them into a bag with holes in it.” 7This is what Yahweh of Armies says: “Consider your ways. 8Go up to the mountain, bring wood, and build the house. I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified,” says Yahweh. 9“You looked for much, and, behold, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says Yahweh of Armies, “Because of my house that lies waste, while each of you is busy with his own house. 10Therefore for your sake the heavens withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit. 11I called for a drought on the land, on the mountains, on the grain, on the new wine, on the oil, on that which the ground produces, on men, on livestock, and on all the labor of the hands.” 12Then Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of Yahweh, their God, and the words of Haggai, the prophet, as Yahweh, their God, had sent him; and the people feared Yahweh. 13Then Haggai, Yahweh’s messenger, spoke Yahweh’s message to the people, saying, “I am with you,” says Yahweh. 14Yahweh stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked on the house of Yahweh of Armies, their God, 15in the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.

1In het tweede jaar van den koning Darius, in de zesde maand, op den eersten dag der maand, geschiedde het woord des HEEREN, door den dienst van Haggai, den profeet, tot Zerubbabel, den zoon van Sealthiel, den vorst van Juda, en tot Josua, den zoon van Jozadak, den hogepriester, zeggende: 2Alzo spreekt de HEERE der heirscharen zeggende: Dit volk zegt: De tijd is niet gekomen, de tijd, dat des HEEREN huis gebouwd worde. 3En het woord des HEEREN geschiedde door den dienst van den profeet Haggai, zeggende: 4Is het voor ulieden wel de tijd, dat gij woont in uw gewelfde huizen, en zal dit huis woest zijn? 5Nu dan, alzo zegt de HEERE der heirscharen: Stelt uw hart op uw wegen. 6Gij zaait veel, en gij brengt weinig in; gij eet, maar niet tot verzadiging; gij drinkt, maar niet tot dronken worden toe; gij kleedt u, maar niet tot uw verwarming, en wie loon ontvangt, die ontvangt dat loon in een doorgeboorden buidel. 7Alzo zegt de HEERE der heirscharen: Stelt uw hart op uw wegen. 8Klimt op het gebergte, en brengt hout aan, en bouwt dit huis, en Ik zal een welgevallen daaraan hebben, en verheerlijkt worden, zegt de HEERE. 9Gij ziet om naar veel, maar ziet, gij bekomt weinig; en als gij het in huis gebracht hebt, zo blaas Ik daarin. Waarom dat? spreekt de HEERE der heirscharen; om Mijns huizes wil, hetwelk woest is, en dat gij loopt elk voor zijn eigen huis. 10Daarom onthouden zich de hemelen over u, dat er geen dauw is, en het land onthoudt zijn vruchten. 11Want Ik heb een droogte geroepen over het land, en over de bergen, en over het koren, en over den most, en over de olie, en over hetgeen de aardbodem zou voortbrengen; ook over de mensen, en over de beesten, en over allen arbeid der handen. 12Toen hoorde Zerubbabel, de zoon van Sealthiel, en Josua, de zoon van Jozadak, de hogepriester, en al het overblijfsel des volks, naar de stem van den HEERE, hun God, en naar de woorden van den profeet Haggai, gelijk als hem de HEERE, hun God, gezonden had; en het volk vreesde voor het aangezicht des HEEREN. 13Toen sprak Haggai, de bode des HEEREN, in de boodschap des HEEREN, tot het volk, zeggende: Ik ben met ulieden, spreekt de HEERE. 14En de HEERE verwekte den geest van Zerubbabel, den zoon van Sealthiel, den vorst van Juda, en den geest van Josua, den zoon van Jozadak, den hogepriester, en den geest van het ganse overblijfsel des volks; en zij kwamen en maakten het werk in het huis van den HEERE der heirscharen, hun God. 15Op den vier en twintigsten dag der maand, in de zesde maand, in het tweede jaar van den koning Darius.
