1Les fils d’Aaron, Nadab et Abihu, prirent chacun un brasier, y mirent du feu, et posèrent du parfum dessus ; ils apportèrent devant l’Éternel du feu étranger, ce qu’il ne leur avait point ordonné. 2Alors le feu sortit de devant l’Éternel, et les consuma : ils moururent devant l’Éternel. 3Moïse dit à Aaron : C’est ce que l’Éternel a déclaré, lorsqu’il a dit : Je serai sanctifié par ceux qui s’approchent de moi, et je serai glorifié en présence de tout le peuple. Aaron garda le silence. 4Et Moïse appela Mischaël et Eltsaphan, fils d’Uziel, oncle d’Aaron, et il leur dit : Approchez-vous, emportez vos frères loin du sanctuaire, hors du camp. 5Ils s’approchèrent, et ils les emportèrent dans leurs tuniques hors du camp, comme Moïse l’avait dit. 6Moïse dit à Aaron, à Éléazar et à Ithamar, fils d’Aaron : Vous ne découvrirez point vos têtes, et vous ne déchirerez point vos vêtements, de peur que vous ne mouriez, et que l’Éternel ne s’irrite contre toute l’assemblée. Laissez vos frères, toute la maison d’Israël, pleurer sur l’embrasement que l’Éternel a allumé. 7Vous ne sortirez point de l’entrée de la tente d’assignation, de peur que vous ne mouriez ; car l’huile de l’onction de l’Éternel est sur vous. Ils firent ce que Moïse avait dit. 8L’Éternel parla à Aaron, et dit : 9Tu ne boiras ni vin, ni boisson enivrante, toi et tes fils avec toi, lorsque vous entrerez dans la tente d’assignation, de peur que vous ne mouriez : ce sera une loi perpétuelle parmi vos descendants, 10afin que vous puissiez distinguer ce qui est saint de ce qui est profane, ce qui est impur de ce qui est pur, 11et enseigner aux enfants d’Israël toutes les lois que l’Éternel leur a données par Moïse. 12Moïse dit à Aaron, à Éléazar et à Ithamar, les deux fils qui restaient à Aaron : Prenez ce qui reste de l’offrande parmi les sacrifices consumés par le feu devant l’Éternel, et mangez-le sans levain près de l’autel : car c’est une chose très sainte. 13Vous le mangerez dans un lieu saint ; c’est ton droit et le droit de tes fils sur les offrandes consumées par le feu devant l’Éternel ; car c’est là ce qui m’a été ordonné. 14Vous mangerez aussi dans un lieu pur, toi, tes fils et tes filles avec toi, la poitrine qu’on a agitée de côté et d’autre et l’épaule qui a été présentée par élévation ; car elles vous sont données, comme ton droit et le droit de tes fils, dans les sacrifices d’actions de grâces des enfants d’Israël. 15Ils apporteront, avec les graisses destinées à être consumées par le feu, l’épaule que l’on présente par élévation et la poitrine que l’on agite de côté et d’autre devant l’Éternel : elles seront pour toi et pour tes fils avec toi, par une loi perpétuelle, comme l’Éternel l’a ordonné. 16Moïse chercha le bouc expiatoire ; et voici, il avait été brûlé. Alors il s’irrita contre Éléazar et Ithamar, les fils qui restaient à Aaron, et il dit : 17Pourquoi n’avez-vous pas mangé la victime expiatoire dans le lieu saint ? C’est une chose très sainte ; et l’Éternel vous l’a donnée, afin que vous portiez l’iniquité de l’assemblée, afin que vous fassiez pour elle l’expiation devant l’Éternel. 18Voici, le sang de la victime n’a point été porté dans l’intérieur du sanctuaire ; vous deviez la manger dans le sanctuaire, comme cela m’avait été ordonné. 19Aaron dit à Moïse : Voici, ils ont offert aujourd’hui leur sacrifice d’expiation et leur holocauste devant l’Éternel ; et, après ce qui m’est arrivé, si j’eusse mangé aujourd’hui la victime expiatoire, cela aurait-il été bien aux yeux de l’Éternel ? 20Moïse entendit et approuva ces paroles.
1Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer, and put fire in it, and laid incense on it, and offered strange fire before Yahweh, which he had not commanded them. 2Fire came out from before Yahweh, and devoured them, and they died before Yahweh. 3Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what Yahweh spoke of, saying, ‘I will show myself holy to those who come near me, and before all the people I will be glorified.’” Aaron held his peace. 4Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said to them, “Draw near, carry your brothers from before the sanctuary out of the camp.” 5So they drew near, and carried them in their coats out of the camp, as Moses had said. 6Moses said to Aaron, and to Eleazar and to Ithamar, his sons, “Don’t let the hair of your heads go loose, neither tear your clothes; that you don’t die, and that he not be angry with all the congregation; but let your brothers, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which Yahweh has kindled. 7You shall not go out from the door of the Tent of Meeting, lest you die; for the anointing oil of Yahweh is on you.” They did according to the word of Moses. 8Then Yahweh said to Aaron, 9“You and your sons are not to drink wine or strong drink whenever you go into the Tent of Meeting, or you will die. This shall be a statute forever throughout your generations. 10You are to make a distinction between the holy and the common, and between the unclean and the clean. 11You are to teach the children of Israel all the statutes which Yahweh has spoken to them by Moses.” 12Moses spoke to Aaron, and to Eleazar and to Ithamar, his sons who were left, “Take the meal offering that remains of the offerings of Yahweh made by fire, and eat it without yeast beside the altar; for it is most holy; 13and you shall eat it in a holy place, because it is your portion, and your sons’ portion, of the offerings of Yahweh made by fire: for so I am commanded. 14The waved breast and the heaved thigh you shall eat in a clean place, you, and your sons, and your daughters with you: for they are given as your portion, and your sons’ portion, out of the sacrifices of the peace offerings of the children of Israel. 15The heaved thigh and the waved breast they shall bring with the offerings made by fire of the fat, to wave it for a wave offering before Yahweh: and it shall be yours, and your sons’ with you, as a portion forever; as Yahweh has commanded.” 16Moses diligently inquired about the goat of the sin offering, and, behold, it was burned: and he was angry with Eleazar and with Ithamar, the sons of Aaron who were left, saying, 17“Why haven’t you eaten the sin offering in the place of the sanctuary, since it is most holy, and he has given it you to bear the iniquity of the congregation, to make atonement for them before Yahweh? 18Behold, its blood was not brought into the inner part of the sanctuary: you certainly should have eaten it in the sanctuary, as I commanded.” 19Aaron spoke to Moses, “Behold, this day they have offered their sin offering and their burnt offering before Yahweh; and such things as these have happened to me. If I had eaten the sin offering today, would it have been pleasing in the sight of Yahweh?” 20When Moses heard that, it was pleasing in his sight.
1En de zonen van Aaron, Nadab en Abihu, namen een ieder zijn wierookvat, en deden vuur daarin, en legden reukwerk daarop, en brachten vreemd vuur voor het aangezicht des HEEREN, hetwelk hij hen niet geboden had. 2Toen ging een vuur uit van het aangezicht des HEEREN, en verteerde hen; en zij stierven voor het aangezicht des HEEREN. 3En Mozes zeide tot Aaron: Dat is het, wat de HEERE gesproken heeft, zeggende: In degenen, die tot Mij naderen, zal Ik geheiligd worden, en voor het aangezicht van al het volk zal Ik verheerlijkt worden. Doch Aaron zweeg stil. 4En Mozes riep Misael en Elzafan, de zonen van Uzziel, de oom van Aaron, en zeide tot hen: Treedt toe, draagt uw broederen weg, van voor het heiligdom tot buiten het leger. 5Toen traden zij toe, en droegen hen, in hun rokken, tot buiten het leger, gelijk als Mozes gesproken had. 6En Mozes zeide tot Aaron, en tot Eleazar, en tot Ithamar, zijn zonen: Gij zult uw hoofden niet ontbloten, noch uw klederen verscheuren, opdat gij niet sterft, en grote toorn over de ganse vergadering kome; maar uw broederen, het ganse huis van Israel, zullen dezen brand, dien de HEERE aan gestoken heeft, bewenen. 7Gij zult ook uit de deur van de tent der samenkomst niet uitgaan, opdat gij niet sterft; want de zalfolie des HEEREN is op u. En zij deden naar het woord van Mozes. 8En de HEERE sprak tot Aaron, zeggende: 9Wijn en sterken drank zult gij niet drinken, gij, noch uw zonen met u, als gij gaan zult in de tent der samenkomst, opdat gij niet sterft; het zij een eeuwige inzetting onder uw geslachten; 10En om onderscheid te maken tussen het heilige en tussen het onheilige, en tussen het onreine en tussen het reine; 11En om den kinderen Israels te leren al de inzettingen, die de HEERE door den dienst van Mozes tot hen gesproken heeft. 12En Mozes sprak tot Aaron, en tot Eleazar, en tot Ithamar, zijn overgebleven zonen: Neemt het spijsoffer, dat van de vuurofferen des HEEREN overgebleven is, en eet hetzelve ongezuurd bij het altaar; want het is een heiligheid der heiligheden. 13Daarom zult gij dat eten in de heilige plaats, dewijl het uw bescheiden deel en het bescheiden deel uwer zonen uit des HEEREN vuurofferen is; want alzo is mij geboden. 14Ook de beweegborst en den hefschouder zult gij in een reine plaats eten, gij, en uw zonen, en uw dochteren met u; want tot uw bescheiden deel, en uwer zonen bescheiden deel, zijn zij uit de dankofferen der kinderen Israels gegeven. 15Den hefschouder en de beweegborst zullen zij nevens de vuurofferen des vets toebrengen, om ten beweegoffer voor het aangezicht des HEEREN te bewegen; hetwelk, voor u en uw zonen met u, tot een eeuwige inzetting zijn zal, gelijk als de HEERE geboden heeft. 16En Mozes zocht zeer naarstiglijk den bok des zondoffers; en ziet, hij was verbrand. Dies was hij op Eleazar en op Ithamar, de overgebleven zonen van Aaron, zeer toornig, zeggende: 17Waarom hebt gij dat zondoffer niet gegeten in de heilige plaats? Want het is een heiligheid der heiligheden, en Hij heeft u dat gegeven, opdat gij de ongerechtigheid der vergadering zoudt dragen, om over die verzoening te doen voor het aangezicht des HEEREN. 18Ziet, deszelfs bloed is niet binnen in het heiligdom gedragen; gij moest dat ganselijk gegeten hebben in het heiligdom, gelijk als ik geboden heb. 19Toen sprak Aaron tot Mozes: Zie, heden hebben zij hun zondoffer en hun brandoffer voor het aangezicht des HEEREN geofferd, en zulke dingen zijn mij wedervaren; en had ik heden het zondoffer gegeten, zou dat goed geweest zijn in de ogen des HEEREN? 20Als Mozes dit hoorde, zo was het goed in zijn ogen.
