1Μετά δε ταύτα αναχωρήσας ο Παύλος εκ των Αθηνών, ήλθεν εις Κόρινθον· 2και ευρών τινά Ιουδαίον ονόματι Ακύλαν, γεγεννημένον εν Πόντω, νεωστί ελθόντα από της Ιταλίας, και Πρίσκιλλαν την γυναίκα αυτού, διότι ο Κλαύδιος είχε διατάξει να αναχωρήσωσι πάντες οι Ιουδαίοι εκ της Ρώμης, προσήλθε προς αυτούς, 3και επειδή ήτο ομότεχνος, έμενε παρ' αυτοίς και ειργάζετο· διότι ήσαν σκηνοποιοί την τέχνην. 4Διελέγετο δε εν τη συναγωγή κατά παν σάββατον και έπειθεν Ιουδαίους και Έλληνας. 5Ότε δε κατέβησαν από της Μακεδονίας ο τε Σίλας και ο Τιμόθεος, ο Παύλος συνεσφίγγετο κατά το πνεύμα διαμαρτυρόμενος προς τους Ιουδαίους ότι ο Ιησούς είναι ο Χριστός. 6Και επειδή αυτοί ηναντιούντο και εβλασφήμουν, εκτινάξας τα ιμάτια αυτού είπε προς αυτούς· το αίμα σας επί την κεφαλήν σας· εγώ είμαι καθαρός· από του νυν θέλω υπάγει εις τα έθνη. 7Και μεταβάς εκείθεν ήλθεν εις την οικίαν τινός ονομαζομένου Ιούστου, όστις εσέβετο τον Θεόν, του οποίου η οικία συνείχετο με την συναγωγήν. 8Κρίσπος δε ο αρχισυνάγωγος επίστευσεν εις τον Κύριον μεθ' όλου του οίκου αυτού, και πολλοί των Κορινθίων ακούοντες επίστευον και εβαπτίζοντο. 9Και ο Κύριος είπεν εν νυκτί προς τον Παύλον δι' οράματος· Μη φοβού, αλλά ομίλει και μη σιωπήσης, 10διότι εγώ είμαι μετά σου, και ουδείς θέλει επιβάλει χείρα επί σε διά να σε κακοποιήση, διότι έχω λαόν πολύν εν τη πόλει ταύτη. 11Και εκάθησεν εκεί εν έτος και μήνας εξ, διδάσκων μεταξύ αυτών τον λόγον του Θεού. 12Ότε δε ο Γαλλίων ήτο ανθύπατος της Αχαΐας, οι Ιουδαίοι εσηκώθησαν ομοθυμαδόν κατά του Παύλου και έφεραν αυτόν εις το δικαστήριον, 13λέγοντες ότι ούτος πείθει τους ανθρώπους να λατρεύωσι τον Θεόν παρά τον νόμον. 14Και ότε έμελλεν ο Παύλος να ανοίξη το στόμα, είπεν ο Γαλλίων προς τους Ιουδαίους· Εάν μεν ήτο τι αδίκημα ή ραδιούργημα πονηρόν, ω Ιουδαίοι, ευλόγως ήθελον σας υποφέρει· 15εάν δε ήναι ζήτημα περί λέξεων και ονομάτων και του νόμου υμών, θεωρήσατε σείς· διότι εγώ κριτής τούτων δεν θέλω να γείνω. 16Και απεδίωξεν αυτούς από του δικαστηρίου. 17Πιάσαντες δε πάντες οι Έλληνες Σωσθένην τον αρχισυνάγωγον, έτυπτον έμπροσθεν του δικαστηρίου· και παντελώς δεν έμελε τον Γαλλίωνα περί τούτων. 18Ο δε Παύλος, αφού προσέμεινεν έτι ημέρας ικανάς, αποχαιρετήσας τους αδελφούς, εξέπλευσεν εις την Συρίαν, και μετ' αυτού η Πρίσκιλλα και ο Ακύλας, αφού εξύρισε την κεφαλήν εν Κεγχρεαίς· διότι είχεν ευχήν. 19Και κατήντησεν εις Έφεσον, και αφήκεν εκείνους αυτού, αυτός δε εισελθών εις την συναγωγήν, συνδιελέχθη μετά των Ιουδαίων. 20Και παρακαλούμενος υπ' αυτών να μείνη πλειότερον καιρόν παρ' αυτοίς, δεν συγκατένευσεν, 21αλλά απεχαιρέτησεν αυτούς ειπών· Πρέπει εξάπαντος να κάμω την ερχομένην εορτήν εις Ιεροσόλυμα, θέλω δε επιστρέψει πάλιν προς εσάς, του Θεού θέλοντος. Και απέπλευσεν από της Εφέσου, 22και αποβάς εις Καισάρειαν, ανέβη εις Ιερουσαλήμ, και χαιρετήσας την εκκλησίαν κατέβη εις Αντιόχειαν, 23και διατρίψας καιρόν τινά, εξήλθε και διήρχετο κατά σειράν την γην της Γαλατίας και την Φρυγίαν, επιστηρίζων πάντας τους μαθητάς. 24Ιουδαίος δε τις ονόματι Απολλώς, Αλεξανδρεύς το γένος, ανήρ λόγιος, κατήντησεν εις Έφεσον, όστις ήτο δυνατός εν ταις γραφαίς. 25Ούτος ήτο κατηχημένος την οδόν του Κυρίου, και ζέων κατά το πνεύμα, ελάλει και εδίδασκεν ακριβώς τα περί του Κυρίου, γινώσκων μόνον το βάπτισμα του Ιωάννου. 26Και ούτος ήρχισε να λαλή μετά παρρησίας εν τη συναγωγή. Ακούσαντες δε αυτόν ο Ακύλας και Πρίσκιλλα, παρέλαβον αυτόν και εξέθεσαν εις αυτόν ακριβέστερα την οδόν του Θεού. 27Επειδή δε ήθελε να περάση εις την Αχαΐαν, οι αδελφοί έγραψαν προς τους μαθητάς, προτρέποντες να δεχθώσιν αυτόν· όστις ελθών, ωφέλησε πολύ τους πιστεύσαντας διά της χάριτος· 28διότι εντόνως εξήλεγχε τους Ιουδαίους, δημοσία αποδεικνύων διά των γραφών ότι ο Ιησούς είναι ο Χριστός.
1After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth. 2He found a certain Jew named Aquila, a man of Pontus by race, who had recently come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to depart from Rome. He came to them, 3and because he practiced the same trade, he lived with them and worked, for by trade they were tent makers. 4He reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded Jews and Greeks. 5But when Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was compelled by the Spirit, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ. 6When they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook out his clothing and said to them, “Your blood be on your own heads! I am clean. From now on, I will go to the Gentiles!” 7He departed there, and went into the house of a certain man named Justus, one who worshiped God, whose house was next door to the synagogue. 8Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord with all his house. Many of the Corinthians, when they heard, believed and were baptized. 9The Lord said to Paul in the night by a vision, “Don’t be afraid, but speak and don’t be silent; 10for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many people in this city.” 11He lived there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them. 12But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him before the judgment seat, 13saying, “This man persuades men to worship God contrary to the law.” 14But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, “If indeed it were a matter of wrong or of wicked crime, you Jews, it would be reasonable that I should bear with you; 15but if they are questions about words and names and your own law, look to it yourselves. For I don’t want to be a judge of these matters.” 16He drove them from the judgment seat. 17Then all the Greeks laid hold on Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. Gallio didn’t care about any of these things. 18Paul, having stayed after this many more days, took his leave of the brothers, and sailed from there for Syria, together with Priscilla and Aquila. He shaved his head in Cenchreae, for he had a vow. 19He came to Ephesus, and he left them there; but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews. 20When they asked him to stay with them a longer time, he declined; 21but taking his leave of them, and saying, “I must by all means keep this coming feast in Jerusalem, but I will return again to you if God wills,” he set sail from Ephesus. 22When he had landed at Caesarea, he went up and greeted the assembly, and went down to Antioch. 23Having spent some time there, he departed, and went through the region of Galatia, and Phrygia, in order, establishing all the disciples. 24Now a certain Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by race, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus. He was mighty in the Scriptures. 25This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, although he knew only the baptism of John. 26He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside, and explained to him the way of God more accurately. 27When he had determined to pass over into Achaia, the brothers encouraged him, and wrote to the disciples to receive him. When he had come, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace; 28for he powerfully refuted the Jews, publicly showing by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.
1En na dezen scheidde Paulus van Athene en kwam te Korinthe; 2En vond een zekeren Jood, met name Aquila, van geboorte uit Pontus, die onlangs van Italie gekomen was, en Priscilla, zijn vrouw, (omdat Claudius bevolen had, dat al de Joden uit Rome vertrekken zouden), en hij ging tot hen; 3En omdat hij van hetzelfde handwerk was, bleef hij bij hen, en wrocht; want zij waren tentenmakers van handwerk. 4En hij handelde op elken sabbat in de synagoge, en bewoog tot het geloof Joden en Grieken. 5En als Silas en Timotheus van Macedonie afgekomen waren, werd Paulus door den Geest gedrongen, betuigende den Joden, dat Jezus is de Christus. 6Maar als zij wederstonden en lasterden, schudde hij zijn klederen af, en zeide tot hen: Uw bloed zij op uw hoofd; ik ben rein; en van nu voortaan zal ik tot de heidenen heengaan. 7En van daar gegaan zijnde, kwam hij in het huis van een man, met name Justus, die God diende, wiens huis paalde aan de synagoge. 8En Crispus, de overste der synagoge, geloofde aan den Heere met geheel zijn huis; en velen van de Korinthiers, hem horende, geloofden, en werden gedoopt. 9En de Heere zeide tot Paulus door een gezicht in den nacht: Zijt niet bevreesd, maar spreek en zwijg niet. 10Want Ik ben met u, en niemand zal de hand aan u leggen om u kwaad te doen; want Ik heb veel volks in deze stad. 11En hij onthield zich aldaar een jaar en zes maanden, lerende onder hen het Woord Gods. 12Maar als Gallio stadhouder van Achaje was, stonden de Joden eendrachtelijk tegen Paulus op, en brachten hem voor den rechterstoel. 13Zeggende: Deze raadt den mensen aan, dat zij God zouden dienen tegen de wet. 14En als Paulus zijn mond zou opendoen, zeide Gallio tot de Joden: Zo er enig ongelijk, of kwaad stuk begaan ware, o Joden, zo zou ik met reden ulieden verdragen; 15Maar indien er geschil is over een woord, en namen, en over de wet, die onder u is, zo zult gij zelven toezien; want ik wil over deze dingen geen rechter zijn. 16En hij dreef hen weg van den rechterstoel. 17Maar al de Grieken namen Sosthenes, den overste der synagoge, en sloegen hem voor den rechterstoel; en Gallio trok zich geen van deze dingen aan. 18En als Paulus er nog vele dagen gebleven was, nam hij afscheid van de broederen, en scheepte van daar naar Syrie; en Priscilla en Aquila met hem, zijn hoofd te Kenchreen geschoren hebbende; want hij had een gelofte gedaan. 19En hij kwam te Efeze aan, en liet hen aldaar; maar hij ging in de synagoge, en handelde met de Joden. 20En als zij baden, dat hij langer bij hen blijven zoude, bewilligde hij het niet. 21Maar hij nam afscheid van hen, zeggende: Ik moet ganselijk het toekomende feest te Jeruzalem houden; doch ik zal tot u wederkeren, zo God wil. En hij voer weg van Efeze. 22En als hij te Cesarea was gekomen, ging hij op naar Jeruzalem, en de Gemeente gegroet hebbende, ging hij af naar Antiochie. 23En als hij aldaar enige tijd geweest was, ging hij weg, en doorreisde vervolgens het land van Galatie en Frygie, versterkende al de discipelen. 24En een zeker Jood, met name Apollos, van geboorte een Alexandrier, een welsprekend man, kwam te Efeze, machtig zijnde in de Schriften. 25Deze was in den weg des Heeren onderwezen; en vurig zijnde van geest, sprak hij en leerde naarstiglijk de zaken des Heeren, wetende alleenlijk den doop van Johannes. 26En deze begon vrijmoediglijk te spreken in de synagoge. En als hem Aquila en Priscilla gehoord hadden, namen zij hem tot zich, en legden hem den weg Gods bescheidenlijker uit. 27En als hij wilde naar Achaje reizen, de broeders, hem vermaand hebbende, schreven aan de discipelen, dat zij hem ontvangen zouden; welke, daar gekomen zijnde, heeft veel toegebracht aan degenen, die geloofden door de genade. 28Want hij overtuigde de Joden met groten ernst in het openbaar, bewijzende door de Schriften, dat Jezus de Christus was.
