1Και τινές κατελθόντες από της Ιουδαίας εδίδασκον τους αδελφούς, ότι εάν δεν περιτέμνησθε κατά το έθος του Μωϋσέως, δεν δύνασθε να σωθήτε. 2Γενομένης λοιπόν αντιστάσεως και συζητήσεως ουκ ολίγης υπό του Παύλου και Βαρνάβα προς αυτούς, ενέκριναν να αναβή ο Παύλος και ο Βαρνάβας και τινές άλλοι εξ αυτών προς τους αποστόλους και πρεσβυτέρους εις Ιερουσαλήμ περί του ζητήματος τούτου. 3Εκείνοι λοιπόν προπεμφθέντες υπό της εκκλησίας, διήρχοντο την Φοινίκην και Σαμάρειαν, εκδιηγούμενοι την επιστροφήν των εθνών, και επροξένουν χαράν μεγάλην εις πάντας τους αδελφούς. 4Ότε δε ήλθον εις Ιερουσαλήμ, υπεδέχθησαν υπό της εκκλησίας και των αποστόλων και των πρεσβυτέρων, και ανήγγειλαν όσα ο Θεός έκαμε δι' αυτών. 5Εσηκώθησαν δε τινές των από της αιρέσεως των Φαρισαίων, οίτινες είχον πιστεύσει, και έλεγον ότι πρέπει να περιτέμνωμεν αυτούς και να παραγγέλλωμεν να φυλάττωσι τον νόμον του Μωϋσέως. 6Και συνήχθησαν οι απόστολοι και οι πρεσβύτεροι, διά να σκεφθώσι περί του πράγματος τούτου. 7Μετά δε πολλήν συζήτησιν σηκωθείς ο Πέτρος, είπε προς αυτούς· Άνδρες αδελφοί, σεις εξεύρετε ότι απ' αρχής ο Θεός εξέλεξε μεταξύ ημών διά του στόματός μου να ακούσωσι τα έθνη τον λόγον του ευαγγελίου και να πιστεύσωσι. 8Και ο καρδιογνώστης Θεός έδωκεν εις αυτούς μαρτυρίαν, χαρίσας εις αυτούς το Πνεύμα το Άγιον καθώς και εις ημάς, 9και δεν έκαμεν ουδεμίαν διάκρισιν μεταξύ ημών και αυτών, καθαρίσας τας καρδίας αυτών διά της πίστεως. 10Τώρα λοιπόν διά τι πειράζετε τον Θεόν, επιβάλλοντες ζυγόν εις τον τράχηλον των μαθητών, τον οποίον ούτε οι πατέρες ημών ούτε ημείς δεν ηδυνήθημεν να βαστάσωμεν; 11Αλλά διά της χάριτος του Κυρίου Ιησού Χριστού πιστεύομεν ότι θέλομεν σωθή καθ' ον τρόπον και εκείνοι. 12Εσιώπησε δε παν το πλήθος και ήκουον τον Βαρνάβαν και τον Παύλον εξιστορούντας όσα σημεία και τέρατα έκαμεν ο Θεός δι' αυτών μεταξύ των εθνών. 13Και αφού αυτοί εσιώπησαν, απεκρίθη ο Ιάκωβος, λέγων· Άνδρες αδελφοί, ακούσατέ μου. 14Ο Συμεών εφανέρωσε τίνι τρόπω κατ' αρχάς ο Θεός επεσκέφθη τα έθνη ώστε να λάβη εξ αυτών λαόν διά το όνομα αυτού. 15Και με τούτο συμφωνούσιν οι λόγοι των προφητών, καθώς είναι γεγραμμένον· 16Μετά ταύτα θέλω επιστρέψει και θέλω ανοικοδομήσει την σκηνήν του Δαβίδ την πεπτωκυίαν, και τα κατηδαφισμένα αυτής θέλω ανοικοδομήσει και θέλω ανορθώσει αυτήν, 17διά να εκζητήσωσι τον Κύριον οι λοιποί των ανθρώπων, και πάντα τα έθνη, επί τα οποία καλείται το όνομά μου, λέγει Κύριος ο ποιών ταύτα πάντα. 18Απ' αιώνος είναι γνωστά εις τον Θεόν πάντα τα έργα αυτού. 19Όθεν εγώ κρίνω να μη παρενοχλώμεν τους από των εθνών επιστρέφοντας εις τον Θεόν, 20αλλά να γράφωμεν προς αυτούς να απέχωσιν από των μιασμάτων των ειδώλων και από της πορνείας και του πνικτού και του αίματος. 21Διότι ο Μωϋσής από γενεάς αρχαίας έχει εν πάση πόλει τους κηρύττοντας αυτόν εν ταις συναγωγαίς, αναγινωσκόμενος κατά παν σάββατον. 22Τότε εφάνη εύλογον εις τους αποστόλους και εις τους πρεσβυτέρους μεθ' όλης της εκκλησίας να εκλέξωσιν εξ αυτών άνδρας και να πέμψωσιν εις Αντιόχειαν μετά του Παύλου και Βαρνάβα, Ιούδαν τον επονομαζόμενον Βαρσαβάν και Σίλαν, άνδρας προεστώτας μεταξύ των αδελφών, 23και έγραψαν διά χειρός αυτών ταύτα· Οι απόστολοι και οι πρεσβύτεροι και οι αδελφοί προς τους εξ εθνών αδελφούς τους κατά την Αντιόχειαν και Συρίαν και Κιλικίαν, χαίρειν. 24Επειδή ηκούσαμεν ότι τινές εξ ημών εξελθόντες σας ετάραξαν με λόγους και διαστρέφουσι τας ψυχάς σας, λέγοντες να περιτέμνησθε και να φυλάττητε τον νόμον, εις τους οποίους ημείς δεν παρηγγείλαμεν τούτο, 25εφάνη εύλογον εις ημάς, συνελθόντας ομοθυμαδόν, να εκλέξωμεν άνδρας και να πέμψωμεν προς εσάς μετά των αγαπητών ημών Βαρνάβα και Παύλου, 26ανθρώπων οίτινες παρέδωκαν τας ψυχάς αυτών υπέρ του ονόματος του Κυρίου ημών Ιησού Χριστού. 27Απεστείλαμεν λοιπόν τον Ιούδαν και τον Σίλαν διά να σας απαγγείλωσι και αυτοί διά στόματος τα αυτά. 28Διότι εφάνη εύλογον εις το Άγιον Πνεύμα και εις ημάς να μη επιβάλλωμεν εις εσάς μηδέν πλειότερον βάρος εκτός των αναγκαίων τούτων, 29να απέχητε από ειδωλοθύτων και αίματος και πνικτού και πορνείας· από των οποίων φυλάττοντες εαυτούς θέλετε πράξει καλώς. Έρρωσθε. 30Ούτοι μεν λοιπόν απολυθέντες ήλθον εις Αντιόχειαν, και συνάξαντες το πλήθος ενεχείρησαν την επιστολήν. 31Αναγνώσαντες δε αυτήν, εχάρησαν διά την γενομένην παρηγορίαν. 32Ο Ιούδας δε και ο Σίλας, όντες και αυτοί προφήται, παρηγόρησαν τους αδελφούς διά λόγων πολλών και επεστήριξαν αυτούς. 33Και αφού διέτριψαν εκεί καιρόν τινά, απεστάλησαν εν ειρήνη από των αδελφών προς τους αποστόλους. 34Εις τον Σίλαν όμως εφάνη εύλογον να μείνη έτι αυτού. 35Ο δε Παύλος και Βαρνάβας διέτριβον εν Αντιοχεία, διδάσκοντες και κηρύττοντες μετά και άλλων πολλών τον λόγον του Κυρίου. 36Μετά δε τινάς ημέρας είπεν ο Παύλος προς τον Βαρνάβαν· Ας επιστρέψωμεν τώρα και ας επισκεφθώμεν τους αδελφούς ημών κατά πάσαν πόλιν, εν αις εκηρύξαμεν τον λόγον του Κυρίου, πως έχουσι. 37Και ο μεν Βαρνάβας εστοχάσθη να συμπαραλάβη τον Ιωάννην τον λεγόμενον Μάρκον· 38ο Παύλος όμως έκρινεν άξιον, τον αποχωρισθέντα από αυτών από της Παμφυλίας και μη συνακολουθήσαντα αυτούς εις το έργον, τούτον να μη συμπαραλάβωσι. 39Συνέβη λοιπόν ερεθισμός, ώστε απεχωρίσθησαν απ' αλλήλων, και ο μεν Βαρνάβας, παραλαβών τον Μάρκον, εξέπλευσεν εις Κύπρον. 40Ο δε Παύλος, εκλέξας τον Σίλαν, εξήλθε, παραδοθείς υπό των αδελφών εις την χάριν του Θεού. 41Και διήρχετο την Συρίαν και Κιλικίαν, επιστηρίζων τας εκκλησίας.
1Some men came down from Judea and taught the brothers, “Unless you are circumcised after the custom of Moses, you can’t be saved.” 2Therefore when Paul and Barnabas had no small discord and discussion with them, they appointed Paul and Barnabas, and some others of them, to go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and elders about this question. 3They, being sent on their way by the assembly, passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles. They caused great joy to all the brothers. 4When they had come to Jerusalem, they were received by the assembly and the apostles and the elders, and they reported all things that God had done with them. 5But some of the sect of the Pharisees who believed rose up, saying, “It is necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.” 6The apostles and the elders were gathered together to see about this matter. 7When there had been much discussion, Peter rose up and said to them, “Brothers, you know that a good while ago God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the nations should hear the word of the Good News, and believe. 8God, who knows the heart, testified about them, giving them the Holy Spirit, just like he did to us. 9He made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith. 10Now therefore why do you tempt God, that you should put a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? 11But we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they are.” 12All the multitude kept silence, and they listened to Barnabas and Paul reporting what signs and wonders God had done among the nations through them. 13After they were silent, James answered, “Brothers, listen to me. 14Simeon has reported how God first visited the nations, to take out of them a people for his name. 15This agrees with the words of the prophets. As it is written, 16‘After these things I will return. I will again build the tabernacle of David, which has fallen. I will again build its ruins. I will set it up, 17That the rest of men may seek after the Lord; all the Gentiles who are called by my name, says the Lord, who does all these things. 18All of God’s works are known to him from eternity.’ 19“Therefore my judgment is that we don’t trouble those from among the Gentiles who turn to God, 20but that we write to them that they abstain from the pollution of idols, from sexual immorality, from what is strangled, and from blood. 21For Moses from generations of old has in every city those who preach him, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath.” 22Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole assembly, to choose men out of their company, and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas: Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, chief men among the brothers. 23They wrote these things by their hand: “The apostles, the elders, and the brothers, to the brothers who are of the Gentiles in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia: greetings. 24Because we have heard that some who went out from us have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, ‘You must be circumcised and keep the law,’ to whom we gave no commandment; 25it seemed good to us, having come to one accord, to choose out men and send them to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, 26men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who themselves will also tell you the same things by word of mouth. 28For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay no greater burden on you than these necessary things: 29that you abstain from things sacrificed to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality, from which if you keep yourselves, it will be well with you. Farewell.” 30So, when they were sent off, they came to Antioch. Having gathered the multitude together, they delivered the letter. 31When they had read it, they rejoiced over the encouragement. 32Judas and Silas, also being prophets themselves, encouraged the brothers with many words, and strengthened them. 33After they had spent some time there, they were sent back with greetings from the brothers to the apostles. 35But Paul and Barnabas stayed in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also. 36After some days Paul said to Barnabas, “Let’s return now and visit our brothers in every city in which we proclaimed the word of the Lord, to see how they are doing.” 37Barnabas planned to take John, who was called Mark, with them also. 38But Paul didn’t think that it was a good idea to take with them someone who had withdrawn from them in Pamphylia, and didn’t go with them to do the work. 39Then the contention grew so sharp that they separated from each other. Barnabas took Mark with him, and sailed away to Cyprus, 40but Paul chose Silas, and went out, being commended by the brothers to the grace of God. 41He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the assemblies.

Vaart wel. 30Dezen dan, hun afscheid ontvangen hebbende, kwamen te Antiochie; en de menigte vergaderd hebbende, gaven zij den brief over. 31En zij, dien gelezen hebbende, verblijdden zich over de vertroosting. 32Judas nu en Silas, die ook zelven profeten waren, vermaanden de broeders met vele woorden, en versterkten hen. 33En als zij daar een tijd lang vertoefd hadden, lieten hen de broeders wederom gaan met vrede, tot de apostelen. 34Maar het dacht Silas goed aldaar te blijven. 35En Paulus en Barnabas onthielden zich te Antiochie, lerende en verkondigende met nog vele anderen, het Woord des Heeren. 36En na enige dagen zeide Paulus tot Barnabas: Laat ons nu wederkeren, en bezoeken onze broeders in elke stad, in welke wij het Woord des Heeren verkondigd hebben, hoe zij het hebben. 37En Barnabas ried, dat zij Johannes, die toegenaamd is Markus, zouden medenemen. 38Maar Paulus achtte billijk, dat men dien niet zoude medenemen, die van Pamfylie af van hen was afgeweken, en met hen niet was gegaan tot het werk. 39Er ontstond dan een verbittering, alzo dat zij van elkander gescheiden zijn, en dat Barnabas Markus medenam, en naar Cyprus afscheepte; 40Maar Paulus verkoos Silas, en reisde heen, der genade Gods van de broederen bevolen zijnde. 41En hij doorreisde Syrie en Cilicie, versterkende de Gemeenten.
