1Двайцять пять років було Амасії, як став царем, а двайцять девять років царював він у Ерусалимі: його мати звалась Егоаддань із Ерусалиму. 2І чинив він угодне в очах Господнїх, та не з щирого серця. 3Як скріпилось його царство, тодї він повбивав слуг своїх, що вбили царя, батька його. 4Та дїтей їх не повбивав, через те, що написано в законї, в книзї Мойсейовій, де Господь заповів, говорючи: не належить вбивати батьків за дїтей, а дїтей не належить вбивати за батьків, але кожний за свою провину повинен умерти. 5І зібрав Амасія Юдеїв і поставив їх по поколїннях під власть тисячників та сотників, усїх Юдеїв і Беняминїїв, і перелїчив їх від двайцяти років і старших, і знайшов їх триста тисяч чоловіка добірнїх, що могли вступити в військо й орудувати списом та щитом. 6Та ще найняв сто тисяч Ізрайлитян хоробрих воінів за сто талантів срібла. 7Але прийшов до його чоловік Божий та й сказав: Царю! нехай не йде з тобою військо Ізраїлське, бо нема Господа з Ізрайлитянами, з усїма синами Ефраїмовими. 8Йди ти сам, роби дїло, покажи відвагу в битві; а як нї, то повалить тебе Бог перед лицем ворога, бо в Бога є сила й піддержати й повалити. 9І сказав Амасія чоловікові Божому: що ж робити з стома талантами, що я віддав військові Ізрайлевому? І сказав Божій чоловік: Господь може дати тобі більше від сього. 10І відлучив Амасія військо, що прийшло до його від Ефраїма, щоб вернулись у своє місце. І запалився вельми гнїв їх на Юдею, й пішли вони назад в своє місце в палаючому гнїві. 11А Амасія осьмілився і повів народ свій, і пійшов на Соляну долину, й побив синів Сеїру десять тисяч; 12А десять тисяч забрали сини Юдині в полон живцем, і вивели їх на верх скелї, та й поскидали їх з верха скелї, і всї вони порозбивались. 13Але військо, що Амасія відіслав назад, щоб не йшло з ним на війну, розійшлося по містах Юдейських від Самариї до Беторона, й повбивало в їх три тисячі, та награбувало силу добичі. 14Амасія ж, вернувши після побою Ідумеїв, принїс богів синів Сеїру і поставив їх у себе за богів, і молився їм і кадив перед ними. 15І запалився гнїв Господа на Амасію, і послав він до його пророка, а той сказав йому: Чого ти обертаєшся до богів сього народу, що не спасли свого народу від твоєї руки? 16Як він так говорив до його, відповів царь: Хиба тебе настановили царським порадником? перестань, щоб не вбили тебе! І перестав пророк, промовивши: Знаю, що Бог призначив тебе на згубу, за те, що ти зробив се й не слухаєш моєї ради. 17І порадився Амасія, царь Юдейський, й послав до Йоаса, сина Йоахазового, сина Іуєвого, царя Ізраїлського, і звелїв сказати: Приходь, побачимось (зміряємось) один із одним. 18І одослав Йоас, царь Ізраїлський, до Амасії, царя Юдейського, і звелїв сказати йому: Терен, що на Ливанї, послав до кедра, що на Ливанї, сказати: віддай свою дочку за жінку моєму синові. Та прийшли дикі зьвірі, що на Ливанї, й здоптали той терен. 19Ти кажеш: Ось я побив Ідумеїв, — і згордїло твоє серце, і ти запобігаєш пустої слави. Сиди лїпше в себе в дома. Чого тобі викликувати небезпечність? Впадеш ти й Юдея з тобою. 20Але Амасія не послухав, бо то було від Бога, щоб віддати їх в руку Йоасові за те, що стали удаватись до богів Ідумейських. 21І виступив Йоас, царь Ізраїлський, і побачились особисто, він і Амасія, царь Юдейський, в Бетсамисї Юдейському. 22І були побиті Юдеї Ізрайлитянами, й розбіглись кожний в свою домівку. 23Та й Амасію, царя Юдейського, сина Йоаса Йоахазенкового, спіймав Йоас, царь Ізраїлський, в Бетсамисї й привів його в Ерусалим, і розвалив мур Ерусалимський від воріт Ефраїмових до брами углової на чотиріста ліктів; 24І забрав усе золото й срібло, і ввесь посуд, що знаходився в домі Божому в Обед-Едома, та скарби дому царського, й закладників, та й вернувся в Самарию. 25І жив Амасія Йоасенко, царь Юдейський, після смертї Йоаса Йоахазенка, царя Ізраїлського, пятнайцять років. 26Прочі дїї Амасіїні, перші й останні, списані в книзї царів Юдейських та Ізраїлських. 27Після того часу, як Амасія одступив від Господа, зложили в Ерусалимі проти його змову, й він утїк у Лахис. Та послали за ним у Лахис, і вбили його там. 28І привезли його кіньми, й поховали його при батьках його в містї Юдиному.
1Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Jehoaddan, of Jerusalem. 2He did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, but not with a perfect heart. 3Now when the kingdom was established to him, he killed his servants who had killed the king his father. 4But he didn’t put their children to death, but did according to that which is written in the law in the book of Moses, as Yahweh commanded, saying, “The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin.” 5Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together, and ordered them according to their fathers’ houses, under captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, even all Judah and Benjamin: and he numbered them from twenty years old and upward, and found them three hundred thousand chosen men, able to go out to war, who could handle spear and shield. 6He hired also one hundred thousand mighty men of valor out of Israel for one hundred talents of silver. 7A man of God came to him, saying, “O king, don’t let the army of Israel go with you; for Yahweh is not with Israel, with all the children of Ephraim. 8But if you will go, take action, be strong for the battle. God will overthrow you before the enemy; for God has power to help, and to overthrow.” 9Amaziah said to the man of God, “But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel?” The man of God answered, “Yahweh is able to give you much more than this.” 10Then Amaziah separated them, the army that had come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again: therefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned home in fierce anger. 11Amaziah took courage, and led his people out, and went to the Valley of Salt, and struck ten thousand of the children of Seir. 12The children of Judah carry away ten thousand alive, and brought them to the top of the rock, and threw them down from the top of the rock, so that they all were broken in pieces. 13But the men of the army whom Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell on the cities of Judah, from Samaria even to Beth Horon, and struck of them three thousand, and took much plunder. 14Now after Amaziah had come from the slaughter of the Edomites, he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense to them. 15Therefore Yahweh’s anger was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent to him a prophet, who said to him, “Why have you sought after the gods of the people, which have not delivered their own people out of your hand?” 16As he talked with him, the king said to him, “Have we made you one of the king’s counselors? Stop! Why should you be struck down?” Then the prophet stopped, and said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this, and have not listened to my counsel.” 17Then Amaziah king of Judah consulted his advisers, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come, let us look one another in the face.” 18Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, “The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son as his wife; then a wild animal that was in Lebanon passed by, and trampled down the thistle. 19You say to yourself that you have struck Edom; and your heart lifts you up to boast. Now stay at home. Why should you meddle with trouble, that you should fall, even you, and Judah with you?’” 20But Amaziah would not listen; for it was of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they had sought after the gods of Edom. 21So Joash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah. 22Judah was defeated by Israel; and they fled every man to his tent. 23Joash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth Shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits. 24He took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in God’s house with Obed-Edom, and the treasures of the king’s house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria. 25Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years. 26Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, behold, aren’t they written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel? 27Now from the time that Amaziah turned away from following Yahweh, they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem. He fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish, and killed him there. 28They brought him on horses, and buried him with his fathers in the city of Judah.
1Amazia, vijf en twintig jaren oud zijnde, werd koning, en regeerde negen en twintig jaren te Jeruzalem; en de naam zijner moeder was Joaddan, van Jeruzalem. 2En hij deed dat recht was in de ogen des HEEREN, doch niet met een volkomen hart. 3Het geschiedde nu, als het koninkrijk aan hem gesterkt was, dat hij zijn knechten, die den koning, zijn vader, geslagen hadden, doodde. 4Doch hun kinderen doodde hij niet, maar hij deed, gelijk in de wet, in het boek van Mozes, geschreven is, waar de HEERE geboden heeft, zeggende: De vaders zullen niet sterven om de kinderen, en de kinderen zullen niet sterven om de vaders; maar een ieder zal om zijn zonde sterven. 5En Amazia vergaderde Juda, en stelde hen, naar de huizen der vaderen, tot oversten van duizenden en tot oversten van honderden, door gans Juda en Benjamin; en hij monsterde hen, van twintig jaren oud en daarboven, en vond hen driehonderd duizend uitgelezenen, uittrekkende ten heire, handelende spies en rondas. 6Daartoe huurde hij uit Israel honderd duizend kloeke helden, voor honderd talenten zilvers. 7Maar er kwam een man Gods tot hem, zeggende: O, koning! laat het heir van Israel met u niet gaan; want de HEERE is niet met Israel, met alle kinderen van Efraim. 8Maar zo gij gaat, doe het, wees sterk ten strijde; God zal u doen vallen voor den vijand; want in God is kracht, om te helpen en om te doen vallen. 9En Amazia zeide tot den man Gods: Maar wat zal men doen met de honderd talenten, die ik aan de benden van Israel gegeven heb? En de man Gods zeide: De HEERE heeft meer dan dit, om u te geven. 10Toen scheidde Amazia die af, te weten de benden, die uit Efraim tot hem gekomen waren, dat zij naar hun plaats gingen; daarom ontstak hun toorn zeer tegen Juda, en zij keerden weder tot hun plaats in hittigheid des toorns. 11Amazia nu sterkte zich, en leidde zijn volk uit, en toog in het Zoutdal, en sloeg van de kinderen van Seir tien duizend. 12Daartoe vingen de kinderen van Juda tien duizend levend, en brachten ze op de hoogte der steenrots, en stieten hen van de spits der steenrots af, dat zij allen barstten. 13Maar de mannen der benden, die Amazia had doen wederkeren, dat zij met hem in den strijd niet zouden trekken, die deden een inval in de steden van Juda, van Samaria af tot Beth-horon toe, en sloegen van hen drie duizend, en roofden veel roofs. 14Het geschiedde nu, nadat Amazia van het slaan der Edomieten gekomen was, en dat hij de goden der kinderen van Seir medegebracht had, dat hij die zich tot goden stelde, en zich voor dezelve neder boog en dien rookte. 15Toen ontstak de toorn des HEEREN tegen Amazia; en Hij zond tot hem een profeet, die zeide tot hem: Waarom hebt gij de goden van dat volk gezocht, die hun volk niet gered hebben uit uw hand? 16En het geschiedde, als hij tot hem sprak, dat hij hem zeide: Heeft men u tot des konings raadgever gesteld? Houd gij op; waarom zouden zij u slaan? Toen hield de profeet op, en zeide: Ik merk, dat God besloten heeft u te verderven, dewijl gij dit gedaan, en naar mijn raad niet gehoord hebt. 17En Amazia, de koning van Juda, werd te rade, dat hij zond tot Joas, den zoon van Joahaz, den zoon van Jehu, den koning van Israel, om te zeggen: Kom, laat ons elkanders aangezicht zien. 18Maar Joas, de koning van Israel, zond tot Amazia, den koning van Juda, om te zeggen: De distel, die op den Libanon is, zond tot den ceder, die op den Libanon is, om te zeggen: Geef uw dochter mijn zoon ter vrouw; maar het gedierte des velds, dat op den Libanon is, ging voorbij, en vertrad de distel. 19Gij zegt: Zie, gij hebt de Edomieten geslagen; daarom heeft uw hart u verheven, om te roemen; nu, blijf in uw huis; waarom zoudt gij u in het kwaad mengen, dat gij vallen zoudt; gij en Juda met u? 20Doch Amazia hoorde niet, want het was van God, opdat Hij hen in hun hand gave, overmits zij de goden der Edomieten gezocht hadden. 21Zo toog Joas, de koning van Israel, op, en hij en Amazia, de koning van Juda, zagen elkanders aangezichten te Beth-Semes, dat in Juda is. 22En Juda werd geslagen voor het aangezicht van Israel; en zij vloden een iegelijk in zijn tenten. 23En Joas, de koning van Israel, greep Amazia, den koning van Juda, den zoon van Joas, den zoon van Joahaz, te Beth-Semes; en hij bracht hem te Jeruzalem, en hij brak aan den muur van Jeruzalem, van de poort van Efraim tot aan de Hoekpoort, vierhonderd ellen. 24Daartoe nam hij al het goud, en het zilver, en al de vaten, die in het huis Gods gevonden werden, bij Obed-Edom, en de schatten van het huis des konings, mitsgaders gijzelaars, en hij keerde weder naar Samaria. 25Amazia nu, de zoon van Joas, de koning van Juda, leefde na den dood van Joas, den zoon van Joahaz, den koning van Israel, vijftien jaren. 26Het overige nu der geschiedenissen van Amazia, de eerste en de laatste, ziet, zijn die niet geschreven in het boek der koningen van Juda en Israel? 27Van den tijd nu af, dat Amazia afgeweken was van achter den HEERE, zo maakten zij in Jeruzalem een verbintenis tegen hem; doch hij vluchtte naar Lachis. Toen zonden zij hem na tot Lachis, en doodden hem aldaar. 28En zij brachten hem op paarden, en begroeven hem bij zijn vaderen in de stad van Juda.
